Where to Watch the World Cup in Houston | Eater Houston

"Get Russian beverages and food specials while watching a match in its full glory on the huge projector screen. All games starting after 7 a.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. on weekends will be aired in the bar. On that note, during the World Cup, it’s never too early to grab a ‘MKT’ mule or Baltika beer, plus a Russian style hotdog on a pretzel bun with mustard, sauerkraut, and potato salad for $10." - Alaena Hostetter

Great dishes with casual seating area and occasional live music. Great place for large groups. The best thing about this place is every dish made with high quality ingredients and every plate was prepared intentionally. Pizza was full of toppings, Chicken and waffle had the crispiest chicken with whole grain waffle. Even the sides like mashed potato and gravy or fries were very good...

MKT Bar in downtown Houston is a great casual spot to unwind after shopping. The atmosphere is relaxed, the food is delicious, and the drink selection is solid. It's the perfect place to enjoy good music, tasty bites, and a laid-back vibe right in the heart of the city.

Google
We came here after the Astros afternoon game. The place is great! You are attached to the phoenician so you can get all the gear things from there too. The vibe is great, everyone was sharing tables. The pizza was good and the wine was delightful! Our server had is laughing the whole time. Can't wait to go back!

Google
When we came it was ridiculously packed because of a race but our waiter was very nice and tried her best to be attentive to all of her tables. The food came out and it was absolutely delicious and we really enjoyed our meal. Will definitely return!

Google
I really like this place. Probably great for a first date, it has a nice food and wine selection. I had a South African red wine, while my wife had a nice Spain red wine. Service was really good as well, our server, Seth had really good suggestions and was affable. Because this is attached to the market I’m sure we’ll be visiting again.

Google
I’m attending AfroTech, I came here to get a vegetable dish. I ordered the vegetable curry pot pie. This was the first thing I ate today, it looked so good, I ate about a quarter of it then began working on my iPad. After 30 minutes I had an upset stomach and had to race to the rest room. I tossed it. I ate an apple and it helped settle my stomach. I’m never ordering this dish ever again, I can’t recommend it. I’ll only purchase a curry dish from a place who Mae culture is known for making it, not MKT Bar. I’m not sure

Google
Seated quickly in a nice, spacious spot for a trio and a baby. Good, service with knowledgeable waiter. Good menu and drink selection. (With the exception of the Margarita...would not suggest it) Cozy, chill vibe. Nice, interesting decor. Clean restrooms. Favorite place to go after Toyota Center event or visit to Discovery Green.

Google
Great brunch, food was good but If you want a chill Sunday morning brunch, I do not recommend this place, if you are in a rush, this is for you ! We really felt rushed even though the place was still empty (9;30am). We were half through our dishes that they asked if we were done and wanted to take our plates, I still had food in my mouth. They came to check us out 5min after serving our plates... how do you want us to tip if we didn’t even taste the dishes yet… Very weird practices. Take a jacket, this is cold inside !

Yelp
Great every time we go and everything we get is awesome. Five stars for George as well. No one makes you feel more at home and glad to see you come in than him. Brunch, steak night, happy hour, they do it all. Live music at brunch to boot. All this and attached to a world class market! This is a must do!

Yelp
Food wasn't anything special and a very dry burger. Super hot wings with just to much sauce and Overwhelming the dip. Chicken sandwich was not good at all, chicken was hard and lightly fried. Service was great. Gal who helped me was super nice We are not locals and was very displeased with this spot. I can say there is a grocery store which is cool. Other than that, I wouldn't go here

Yelp
Their Thursday Steak Night is such a good deal! Steak, chimichurri, twiced baked potato, fried onions and salad - all for $17 in 2024. The steak was great, and big enough you might be able to take some leftovers home. The potato is heavenly smooth and fluffy. The fried onions were a little wimpy/cold when they got to their table but we still ate them. The salad was a nice bonus to have as a starter. The service was very friendly and helpful

Bryon P.

Yelp
Service outstanding by Seth excellent polite waiter Band was awesome FEO with Tom Beard super singer and Band great time cool music and beat Food outstanding pizza and salad and chili and fries Only weak issue was the special STEAK Goode tase yet beef jerky more tender tuff as a leather shoe Wines Beers Goode too great menu but will pass on steak next time Bryon talk radio host

Yelp
MKT Bar is never the first place that pops into my mind when I'm looking for breakfast/brunch, but honestly it should - it boasts a vast menu, opens earlier than other morning eateries in Downtown, offers free garage parking, and is conveniently attached to Phoenicia, the Mediterranean/international supermarket at which I aspire to do all my grocery shopping. I recently went back to MKT last weekend for brunch prior to a matinée at the Downtown AMC - here are my thoughts on what we tried: Hill-Country Chicken & Waffle - It's your standard chicken and waffle, played straight. The waffle is crisp and tasty, though I felt the chicken was a bit dry/boring. Next time I'd probably choose one of the other more exciting menu options. Baklava Pancakes - I am definitely not a pancake person, yet I really loved these! They remind me of the thin German pancakes that I used to get at IHOP: thicker and bouncier than a crêpe, but much slimmer than a traditional buttermilk. They're layered with crushed pistachios, freshly sliced figs, and a floral orange blossom honey...so good! Choco-Halva Latte - This espresso drink caught my eye when I was looking for a fun caffeinated pick-me-up. The waiter assured me it wouldn't be too sweet and he was thankfully correct - think of a rich, dark mocha with nutty, toasted undertones. This was great paired with the sweet pancakes! Service was speedy and very cordial - we were in-and-out in 45 minutes and had some spare time to peruse the supermarket prior to our showtime. I'll be back soon to eat my way through the rest of the menu!

Yelp
We were a big group who were headed to see Christmas lights around Downtown. Live music was playing during brunch. It's too loud and you can't have a conversation. I wish they had more items on the breakfast menu. I approached the grocery store side but they weren't serving breakfast any more in the cafeteria-type setting. So I opted for an egg white spinach fritatta in the Mkt Bar. It's a big serving and I don't like to waste. But I could only eat half. So I recommend diners share the fritatta. The waiter brought Tabasco and Cholula sauces. I added a bit of cholula to give it more flavor. The egg dish doesn't have much flavor. While the ambiance is lively, I wouldn't go back since I can't have a conversation due to the loud live music played during brunch.

Yelp
MKT Bar is the perfect stop after a visit to Discovery Green! The menu has so many items to choose from, that you can't possibly ask for more. There are meals for all food preferences available diets. At 6 pm, the bar had plenty of open seating, but I'm sure Wednesday night steaks or a live band bring in a crowd. I highly recommend this bar for a quick bite or an evening laugh with friends. In my case, I brought my daughters in for dinner after our 2-mile walk! What a treat! Don't forget to try the gelato!

Yelp
Last minute find while visiting my family. Did not disappoint even though we were hoping for more alcohol choices other than beer and wine. But even with just those options we were pleased. The wine options are extensive so many to choose from. They had a beer flight which was great for my Uncle and Cousin. Great option for mocktails too for my mother-to-be cousin who wanted to feel fancy with us all. The food was surprisingly delicious! I ordered the quinoa and salmon. I was shocked at how much I loved the quinoa. They have different themes and deals every day. I look forward to coming back. Oh and the DJ was giving old school 90s vibes and we couldn't stop dancing! The server Jordan was so kind to us and didn't hassle us for staying a little later while we said our goodbyes. She was really kind and took the time to explain different things.

Yelp
The egg scramble with keilbasa was a delicious surprise. Definitely going back the next time I'm in Houston. Service was good but it felt awkward. Kitchen staff were quick and on point.

Yelp
First discovered this place as I walked around the neighborhood. Attached to Phonecia Market Downtown, I love the quaint vibe of this bar. We always get the mimosa flight, steak & eggs or chicken and waffles. Service is always on point and if there are any issues with food the bar handles it right away! Great for a chill brunch date & a mixed crowd.

Yelp
This restaurant is connected to the Phoenician market, which is what my wife and I came to check out as we had heard good things about it, we were hungry so we figured we'd try some of the food in the connected restaurant. Obviously the food is of Middle Eastern/Mediterranean influence. The restaurant was very clean as were the restrooms, the staff was very friendly and helpful, they knew their product and menu.Everything we had was fresh, and tasted delicious. It's not someplace we would go out of our way to eat, but definitely someplace we would eat if going to The Phoenician market to Re supply on herbs and spices.

Yelp
We came on steak night to give this place a try. You get a 10 oz. ribeye on bed of fried onions topped with chimichurri with choice of steamed broccoli or twice-baked potato, & side salad. The salad that come before it huge and you do get a good amount of food for $16.99. The only complaint I had was the steak was not cooked correctly we asked for medium rare and they did come out medium but other than that everything was good. The ceviche was awesome, and we loved the pita chips it came with. The place is very cute and I love that they do live music on Thursdays. The band they had was great. Our server was good and nice but I think they could have more servers working they were busy so the service was a little slow. I don't blame the server she was really doing her best. They only serve beer and wine but it's a great place downtown to grab drinks after work.

Satiated Ape ..

Yelp
Great restaurant in Phoenicia Specialty Foods. Brunch is always good and sometimes they have live music. If you like a fried egg on your burger make sure to ask for one. Very good!

Yelp
We had a super positive experience here about a month ago! Dasha was our server and she was so awesome! She really was on top of it considering we were a big group and it was super busy for Sunday funday! The ambience is so great here! Loved the love string quartet. I ordered a matcha, shrimp and salmon, spinach salad, then a rosé. Everyone else ordered tacos, chicken and waffle, and everything looked delicious on their ends too. I'd definitely come back. Super pleasant atmosphere! Thanks for helping us make this lovely lady's birthday special!

Yelp
I like the food here mostly. Ordering the pizzas which taste no different than what you can get at an Italian mom&pop, but also the classic Mediterranean items that may be pre-made from the prepared food section or kitchen from the market. Everything taste fresh as you would expect from a restaurant. Their falafel wraps have a heavy tahini paste and taste. You definitely need some more pickles to cut that taste or at least order the cucumber salad as a side. It is delicious. The hummus is solid while pitas are thin and fresh.

Yelp
Fun, energetic place for dinner. I love the free parking and prices are reasonable especially for downtown. Our service and food was great. My veggie pizza was unique (brussel sprouts, asparagus etc) and fresh. My husband loved his salmon quinoa dish which was under $20 bucks! They kindly replaced the pita chips with veggies on our hummus plate to accommodate my GF husband. Nothing but good things to say!
google avatar

Yelp
Cute place, but if you're going here on a date, expect to not hear the other person and nearly have to yell. I did like the performer though. Very limited menu, but its sort of just a basic place. Service was great, ambiance is pretty much like Phonecia's...nothing special and many tables have to be shared, soooo, it's pretty casual. Not a fan.

Yelp
Last night was the 2nd time a group and I ate at MKT bar - we've all lived downtown for many years, we are frequent Phoenicia shoppers, so we are familiar with this establishment. The 1st time I ate here, I was given raw chicken, the mgr and waiter couldn't care less, the level of concern wasn't there. I didn't ask for another but one was brought to me, then I was charged. Not sure who can even eat after raw chicken is brought to their table but it is what it is. I was looked at oddly when I asked for a new set of silverware, as the old ones touched the raw chicken. That was experience 1. The 2nd time, last night was our first steak night, while I will say the salads are good, large but good. The twice baked potato, or more like 5 times baked potato was flavorless and over cooked to the point where the cheese on top was a rock. The greasy onion strings that are just there for garnishment, has a sea of oil under my steak. The cooking of my steak was a perfect med-rate like I asked but the steak it self was 70% fat 30% meat. Definitely a low grade ribeye. I think the service was another issue yet again, we had to continuously wait for refills and it wasn't that busy as they had many empty tables with reserved signs on them. The waitress was sweet but definitely in the weeds for no apparent reason. I wanted to live this place because it's just blocks from my place but unfortunately after 2 bad experiences, it's a no for me.

Yelp
We hoped on a quick trip on the RYDE to MKT Bar. We were surprised to find out it's in a grocery store. Definitely allow time to look through it. It is open seating with some shared seating long tables. There is also seating at the bar. We had plenty of choices. We started with a carafe of pomegranate mimosas & other fountain drinks. The mimosas were very good. We also ordered 2 regular coffees that weren't delivered at the same time or with cream. I only tasted the New Day Galette. I enjoyed it but felt like it lacked sauce for the breading. We also had scrambled eggs rather than fried. My husband loved his chicken. My boys also enjoyed their meals & licked their plates clean. The service was just not good. We were missing a set of silverware & cream which I had to go to the bar to get myself. Our waiter never checked on us.

Yelp
We were really happy with our eating experience, especially because of Ms. Jordyn's wonderful service! Her warmth provided an extra dimension of excitement to our supper, and the cuisine was absolutely excellent. I appreciate her warmth and attention to detail. A culinary treasure!

Yelp
Mkt Bar stands out as a culinary haven, and the pizza and macaroni dishes elevate the dining experience to unparalleled heights. The pizza, a perfect harmony of thin, crispy crust and high-quality toppings, is a true delight for pizza enthusiasts. Each slice is a flavorful masterpiece that showcases the chef's dedication to crafting the perfect pie. Now, onto the macaroni - a comforting symphony of creamy cheese and perfectly cooked pasta. The indulgent macaroni at Mkt Bar is a standout, delivering a rich and satisfying experience that lingers on the palate. The combination of these two dishes creates a culinary duo that deserves accolades.

Yelp
Came across this gem while exploring downtown Houston for the first time. It is connected to a market which at first thought seemed a little odd. Still decided to give it a chance. And I want to make it clear that it was definitely worth it. The food was delicious . I ended up back there 2 nights in a row. On night 1 I had the Austin street burger (picture 1) . The burger was cooked med-rare and cooked to perfection it was juicy and has the right amount of flavor. The burger came with za'atar fries also packed with flavor and served with Moroccan ketchup. The side condiment was spicy which enhanced both flavor profiles!! On night 2 I decided to try something different and went with the Kamtastic chicken sandwich. It comes with sweet potato fries but I opted to switch out for those za'atar fries cause I couldn't get the flavor out of my mind. The sandwich was delicious and filling. I even had room for some dessert. I went with mixing 2 flavors: Mama's Baklava paradise & the pistachio with orange blossom . The combo alone is the perfect marriage of sweetness. I wanted to end the review by shouting out the server Jorge. He waited on us during night 1. He was super friendly, and helped us choose the perfect entree. I appreciate his kindness. When we came back for night 2. He came up to us and thanked us for stopping back in. I know he probably waits on a lot of tourists but it was nice that he took the time out to remember our faces and made sure we were enjoying ourselves! This experience made the trip so much more memorable !

Yelp
Super cool place. There was a musician on the piano I don't remember her name. She was playing some laid back jazzy bluesy stuff it was great. I don't even remember what I ate. But i remember loving everything and being happy I stumbled in looking for food. I do remember the server/bartender being super friendly and thinking the food seemed to be of quality/fresh. I normally wouldn't leave a review where I don't remember anything sorry! But I wanted to at least recommend the place because I really liked it.

Yelp
Amazing!!!!! This restaurant is part of the Phoenician Specialty Food Market. First, let me tell you the market is incredible!! We discovered this market after going to an Astros game and the people in front of us were eating a shawarma and it looked incredible! We asked them where they bought it and they told us Phoenician! We went there after the game and the rest is history.... Now, let's talk about the MktBar!! We went for the weekend brunch and will be a regular after eating the most delicious food! As you can see from the pictures, the food looks amazing and tastes the same like an orchestra in your mouth! For an "appetizer ", we ordered the sweet potato shoestring fries. It was served with a homemade ketchup and aioli! Magnificent!!! We each had a different entree. Cod and fries, chicken and waffles and black pepper waffle. First, the cod was coated lightly in a tender, golden crust with perfectly made fries. A small cup of homemade slaw for tasting was included. It was not to creamy and had the right balance of mayo and vinegar. The chicken and waffles were a perfect combination! The chicken was not dry! It was cooked to perfection and was juicy and tender! Now, the waffle was a "melt in your mouth" experience!! It was sooo tasty! One of the best waffles I have ever had! The surprise entree was the black pepper waffle! It was a waffle with a hefty portion of braised lamb shank! The BEST lamb shank I have ever had! The spices and seasoning were perfect! This will definitely be a staple for our brunch. And to top It all off, for a Sunday treat, we were entertained by the best music! The place is so welcoming and warming and you would not believe it was part of a specialty food store. After our wonderful meal, great music and great company, we went into the food store and picked up our food for the week. This place is a must if you want quality food and a great experience!

Yelp
When we arrived me and my cousin weren't even acknowledged nor greeted so that's strike one. Strike 2, I had the ceviche and it had octopus in it, that was interesting. The ceviche was decent , however we ordered the pizza and it tasted like nothing I've had before. I thought pizza was fool proof but somehow it was a big miss. I wouldn't recommend that to anyone. Overall it wasn't anything amazing and your probably better off getting a chain restaurant or something you normally get somewhere else. The ambiance was chill but nothing extraordinary.

Brendan B.

Yelp
Food is good but I suggest the self service counter inside the shop instead. Sat down waited and waited and no one came. I saw another customer get up and get his own menu. Lots of staff, no service.
google avatar

Melissa G.

Yelp
We stopped by the MKT Bar before our event at Discovery Green. Our friends had the pizza and we had the steak and green pita. The restaurant is neat and connected to a parking garage which is great! We sat over to the side so we were able to visit and hear each other. They were busy but the service was great. The pomegranate mimosa was delicious and everyone enjoyed their meals. 10/10!
google avatar

Melanie M.

Yelp
5 stars!!!! The atmosphere was perfect for our steak night dinner. $17 steak night included chefs special of steak cooked how you want it, half a baked potato topped with cheese, a house side salad, and a few onion rings. This can not be beat. I like my steak medium to medium rare and this was perfectly delivered to our table. Everyone is so nice and friendly. Our waitress was awesome. She did not bother us too much while we enjoyed our meal, but she was super attentive! Fast service too! After dinner we walked next door to the grocery store (it's connected by a hallway!) for some dessert.

Fidan A.

Yelp
Had a private event at MKT. Lester, who helped with planning and organizing, was very professional and a pleasure to work with, and the event itself was a huge success thanks to him.

Yelp
Friendly staff, awesome coffee, nice atmosphere live bands on Thursday nites and Sunday Brunch. You can't go wrong with a bottle of wine and a ribeye on Thursdays and really good Gelato for dessert
google avatar

Yelp
Came in after the Astros game. Nice atmosphere and that half chicken was super tasty... and those fries... with garlic aioli mayo was too die for.
google avatar

Haley H.

Yelp
Everything about this place was perfect! The DJ made our night. Great food and our waitress gave great recommendations. The portion size was appropriate (we split a pizza and app). We will absolutely return!
google avatar

Darris J.

Yelp
For lunch it's ok, portions are very large. Right now they are a little under staffed and the kitchen is a little longer than most would prefer. Still a good place for happy hour and to listen to an artist just starting.
google avatar

Alexandra G.

Yelp
This place is really nice, the ambiance is really enjoyable. The play good music, and some days even have live music. The place is super spacious so it's good for small and large parties (10+). They have booth, low and high chairs seating. The have really good appetizers and pizza I would recommend the cheese board, ceviche, and the queso. For drinks they have tons of draught beer, and cocktails.... My fav is the mango frozen cocktail. Stuart was our waiter, he was amazing he even remembered us from the day before. Happy hour is Monday, Tuesday and Friday 4-6pm.
google avatar

Oldskool G.

Yelp
Burger, fries, Picadas guava seltzer - all ya need right there. Would go here again! No hard alcohol but otherwise great drink choices as well as food, with friendly service
google avatar

Awa N.

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick bite before dinner and was BLOWN away by how good the Lebanese Hummus and Za'atar Fries were. 5 stars all the way.

Patti K.

Yelp
everything we get here is great: salmon, quinoa, steak, salads, roasted chicken, the lemon drop. love this place!
google avatar

Alicia M.

Yelp
Amazing gem! It is a store, bar, and restaurant all rolled up in one. Also some of the nicest staff work here~ George was our waiter and resident expert. He and his son both work here. The atmosphere is a bit retro with amazing food combinations and drinks. Highly recommend stopping in for an drink and staying for the brunch! They also have music and specials throughout the week.
google avatar

Laine F.

Yelp
Create a little bar, fun, atmosphere and a great service staff. We had the burger and it was really good but definitely bring your appetite as the bigger is big.
google avatar

Joanna M.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I went for lunch here yesterday. Parking was very confusing. When we arrived, there was no host to greet us, so we got lost in the grocery store next door. Once we got seated (we were the only people in the restaurant), They were also fixing some machine which was very loud. We ordered the hummus which was really good (not enough pita chips, but they brought more). I ordered the chicken salad and my boyfriend got the friend chicken sandwich. Both meals were a solid 2/5. Very very dry chicken. The food was expensive compared to the quality of the food. We will not be back.
google avatar

Jason W.

Yelp
Convenient location close to the convention center. Their charcuterie was excellent. Decent beer selection. The sliders were amazing. Fries were a bit soggy, left something to be desired. I'll definitely come back to try more of their menu.
google avatar

Amber T.

Yelp
Service was amazing, food was amazing! The plantain chips were the most perfect ones I've ever been served at a restaurant and I'm obsessed with the seasoning. The Mac and cheese was perfect, and the ceviche was soooo fresh!
google avatar

Alexis C.

Yelp
THURSDAY $17 STEAK DINNER We came in for lunch and ordered the meal of the day with a salad to match. The steak meals come with the option of broccoli or a baked potato depending on your side mood. Yes they have a baked potato option but we also ordered a side of their Garlic Mashed Potatoes $5 HIGHLY RECOMMEND! And to pair this protein meal with some crunchy greens; the MKT Salad $9 romaine, cucumber, mint, feta, red grapes, pistachios, and pita croutons with lebni garlic dressing.
google avatar

Abigail L.

Yelp
I used to love MKT Bar, but the quality of food at this place has gone down a lot. My boyfriend and I stopped in for dinner last night and we were quite disappointed. The chicken sandwich looked good, but wasn't very tasty as it was over cooked and dry.
google avatar

Maritza C.

Yelp
Good food, great service. Attentive staff, very kid friendly waitress. Forgot my credit card inside the pay bill, waitress kindly returned it on her next shift. Went to retrieve from mgt office and all was fine.
google avatar

Yvette A.

Yelp
First time I ordered curbside from Phoenicia MKT menu. I ordered the Roasted Half Chicken with olive-lemon sauce served with garlic mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. At $16 there was little garlic taste to the potatoes but most importantly the chicken was RAW. I was hoping I was mistaken but the more I cut the more blood came out. Didn't even cut into the second larger piece. Ended up having a sandwich for lunch, instead of a meal I was looking forward to. I was nearby and read good reviews but if you have another option take it. Or maybe just have a sandwich.
google avatar

James S.

Yelp
Definitely the place to be if you're wanting to eventually need to have to wear hearing aids. The place is the size of my master bedroom and the music is as loud as hell.

James L.

Yelp
Food was amazing and great portions to confirm you will be full by the time you leave. I had many dishes but the chili was most surprising and memorable in terms of how good it was. We sat at the bar and the service was also good as the bartender/server was very attentive to my needs. Will be visiting again!

Yelp
Food in the time of Corona... MKT Bar is open for curbside pickup (pickup is along McKinney Street) and delivery through Postmates and Uber Eats. I did their curbside pickup on Saturday for #YelpsBigNightIn. I took advantage of their $25 pizza + bottle of wine. (They also have a $22 pizza + local craft brew six pack). I ordered the "Veg Out" pizza that came topped with fried brussels sprouts, roasted yellow squash, zucchini, carrots, artichoke, asparagus and drizzled with a basil pesto and goat cheese. This was so bomb. It was a lovely medley of roasted veggies atop house made bread. Friends, I ate almost the entire thing. (Hey, I did my workout!) They continue to offer a selection of apps, salads, desserts, family pack meals and full catering menus.

Yelp
Good food, great staff at MKT. Lester, Millie, Stuart, Brian, Jordan provide great service and make their customers feel welcome. I come for the music and the fun staff.
