Can Portland’s Food Carts Survive the City’s Development Boom? | Eater

"An organically grown downtown cart pod that began in the 1990s and became the city's largest and most iconic street-food epicenter, once encircling parked cars and drawing office workers and tourists with the smells of curries, tacos, kebabs, stir-fry, pizza and more. The pod was home to dozens of immigrant-owned businesses employing scores of people, but a sudden eviction by the lot owner with only about 30 days' notice exposed vendors' precarious margins, patchwork infrastructure and code violations, sparked a community rescue effort, and highlighted the fragility of these low-barrier enterprises as lots are redeveloped." - Brendan Seibel

The Alder Street Food Cart Pod Has Nabbed Its New Home by the North Park Blocks - Eater Portland

"The longstanding Alder Street food cart pod, which was forced to dissolve earlier this summer, will move to the south end of the North Park Blocks. Around 30 carts will land along SW 8th, Ankeny, and SW Park, attempting to reinvigorate the park space. The move is confirmed by the Friends of the Green Loop, a public-private initiative, although no opening date has been set. A GoFundMe has raised a little over $14,000 to cover the costs of electrical, plumbing, and moving." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Build-Your-Own Bibimbap Bar K-Pub Is Coming to NE MLK | Eater Portland

"I learned that a new spot for Korean fried chicken will open in Piedmont this May at 7339 NE MLK: K-Pub, a beer bar and restaurant serving Korean pub classics. It will have 14 taps, including two ciders and 12 beer taps (with two Korean/Japanese beers and five rotating selections), a parking lot with food carts and plans to offer additional drink options from the carts, including a coffee cart. The venue will feature a dedicated bibimbap bar where customers choose from a number of kimchis and vegetables—making it ideal for vegan and vegetarian diners as well as those loading up on galbi. The kitchen will also offer several hits from Chungdam, along with Korean fried chicken and a variety of kimchis; details on the cart lineup and the menu are coming soon." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

This is a great place to get soul food. Kee's Loaded kitchen has the best soul food that I have tried so far. They give so much food for the price. I shared food with my husband and coworkers and still had food for another meal.

They asked if I wanted the spicy Gyro, it wasn’t spicy.. and the amount of grease that leaked out when I came home.. for $17. I was hoping for more. Also, just for the foodie truck scene. I hate to leave an honest review but here it is.

If I could give 0 stars I would. Their negligence and uncaringness to support a new, amazing, and beautiful pod owner. How could you? Because they wanted some fixes done which you are inclined to fix. How could you be so hurtful to the community, knowing what we stand for? Definitely not bringing my family and won’t be recommending. LGBTQ+ all the way. How could you shut down what our city is known for because you are lazy? Because fixes need done and you refuse to do it? You don’t think the next people won’t have the same issues with the cart? How sad. You’re what makes our community feel less safe to be themselves.

First time here and it won't be the last! I had a Plilly Cheese Hot Dog from Taza Shaema and it was delicious -- beefy hot dog, great Philly filling, lots of cheese, and crispy fries. All the trucks appear to offer a nice and unique variety from the usual international cuisines. I definitely want to try the Mexican and Thai carts. What a great find

Update: 9/14/23 Two of the original food carts that left when the previous owners sold the property are back. Thai Star and #Loaded BBQ are now back with a lot of happy neighborhood regulars celebrating. What a treat having this Food Pod so close to home. Garcia's Taqueria offers some seriously good Mexican food at decent prices and Puddletown Bagels has some of the best boiled bagels in town. Next up on my list is anyone's guess, maybe Indian or Mediterranean or Burgers or Philly or Sushi, and I heard, two more carts are coming, one of which is Thai. Lots of possibilities all reasonable priced, and on Fridays and weekends, brews and hard cider.

Nice new food cart pod, nice options with a really nice atmosphere. The spaceship is fun for the kids. We had Mexican and Thai, and all were great. Kinda hard to park, but it's not too bad.

Google
Nice food cart pod with a good variety of cuisines. I tried both a falafel wrap from the gyro cart & pad see ew from the Thai cart. I’ll be back to try some others!

Somehow, the sushi cart here makes the best sushi I have found in Portland. Even better than fancy restaurants, yet at an affordable price at a seemingly simple food cart. The Thai food cart also never disappoints with their stellar food.

Yelp
Visited at 7pm on a Saturday night and the bar cart was closed. We got food from Dhaba Indian Kitchen, it was excellent. Disappointed that not all the carts were open. Seems like a work in progress... please keep the bar cart open all working hours and require the carts to be open at the same times, otherwise your pod will not survive!
