"An organically grown downtown cart pod that began in the 1990s and became the city's largest and most iconic street-food epicenter, once encircling parked cars and drawing office workers and tourists with the smells of curries, tacos, kebabs, stir-fry, pizza and more. The pod was home to dozens of immigrant-owned businesses employing scores of people, but a sudden eviction by the lot owner with only about 30 days' notice exposed vendors' precarious margins, patchwork infrastructure and code violations, sparked a community rescue effort, and highlighted the fragility of these low-barrier enterprises as lots are redeveloped." - Brendan Seibel
"The longstanding Alder Street food cart pod, which was forced to dissolve earlier this summer, will move to the south end of the North Park Blocks. Around 30 carts will land along SW 8th, Ankeny, and SW Park, attempting to reinvigorate the park space. The move is confirmed by the Friends of the Green Loop, a public-private initiative, although no opening date has been set.
