As a soft serve lover, I've been a fan of having MN Nice Cream around since it opened!
The Twin Cities has a huge ice cream scene, but it was missing a delicious soft serve place that wasn't just Dairy Queen - and I think this fills that spot. Located in NE by Able Brewery, it's the perfect spot to stop by on a hot summer day or hop to after hitting all the breweries and restaurants in the area. The shop is small, but they keep it efficient since they often have a long line out the door. They keep the line moving with their cashless system, and had 3 people making ice cream on this busy Friday night.
The ambiance here is very whimsical and childlike, while still being super trendy & instagrammable! The indoor seating is very limited and gets crowded on a busy night - but we were sitting on the Able patio so we didn't mind.
One thing I love about this place is they have plenty of vegan options available. I have friends who are dairy-free/vegan, so it's an easy spot to grab a treat. It's even more fun that they consistently rotate their two vegan flavors! Today's were cake batter and key lime.
When you order, you can choose from one of their pre-made sundaes - loaded with toppings, or make your own! Heads up that their pre-made sundaes are extremely loaded, so you have to get a medium or larger. I personally love their extra small size, since all the toppings are piled on and rich I always had trouble finishing anything bigger.
This time around, I got the chocolate vanilla twist with vegan cookie dough, sprinkles & coconut whipped cream (note: they forgot my sprinkles, but quickly added them when I let them know!). The ice cream itself wasn't anything special, but I was just in the mood for some classic soft serve. Their cookie dough was the star of the show, with it being salty & sweet - and they really piled it on there! The coconut whipped cream was also a unique twist and added a nice flavor.
My roommate got the key lime-cake batter twist, and it was amazing! I personally didn't love the cake batter twisted with the lime, but the key lime was so citrusy and tropical. Also, one thing that Nice Cream does best is getting toppings throughout your cone! My friends that had cones got halfway through and we're delightfully surprised at some more toppings inside.
Even on a busy night, I'd recommend grabbing some soft-serve here!
Also, just a general note: I wouldn't recommend getting the glitter. Most "edible" glitter is just non-toxic, not ~really~ edible.
