"At this small, hip coffee shop, there’s often a line out the door — but it’s not just for the coffee. Here, you can enjoy zero-proof cocktails alongside expertly crafted caffeine. Try the Soy Libre, a fizzy mix of Coca-Cola, maple syrup, soy sauce, lime juice, and cinnamon, or the Pony Boy, with saffron syrup, grapefruit, and Topo Chico. For a unique twist, go for Ocean Eyes, a slightly sweet cardamom soda topped with blue jasmine foam and lemon zest. Owners Gia Giambalvo and Sarah Girdzius take great pride in their zero-proof offerings. The best seats in the house is at the tiled counter where you can watch the artists at work." - Kelly Bone

"This spot offers zero-proof cocktails at coffee shop prices where you can sip on the Zephyr, an iced indigo jasmine tea with house-made vanilla, topped with orange foam. The ambitious summer menu introduces the Rise and Brine, a cold brew soda mixed with pickle juice and Topo Chico, topped with celery salt and a gherkin pierced with a silver spire." - Kelly Bone

Google
Such a lovely experience! The drinks were delicious, and my lactose intolerant wife was so delighted that they had non-dairy cold foam. Despite it being busy the drinks came out quickly. The owner was friendly and asked for feedback on the drinks as we ordered the seasonal flavors. I thought that was sweet and shows she's trying to connect with customers and provide a really good drinks. The art on the walls was so fun too, great atmosphere. Location is great, we were able to take our coffee and walk to Balboa park to enjoy. Definitely planning on coming back!

Google
What a gem! The best coffee shop in San Diego. Coffee is really delicious, baristas lovely and happy to provide advice if needed and the shop itself has cool vibes. They also have great selection of roasted beans for home and some nice merch. While we were drinking coffee, the place was constantly busy and a few regulars came in, which is a great sign of this place being a staple in the neighborhood. Convenient location close to Balboa Park is an added bonus 👌

Google
Arguably the best new speciality coffee spot I have found. The atmosphere is wonderful as it feels like coffee meets bar in a lovely retro space. The coffee is of course amazing with a wide variety of delicious drinks. I usually opt for an iced latte and I’ll snag a burrito or two on the weekends. Highly recommend!

Google
Fangirling a bit over these women and the amazing thing they’ve created. I don’t revisit a lot of the same places because I’m new here and have been trying to hit new spots before revisiting others but I could not stop thinking about the perfectly silky smooth, hot Cardi B latte i got last weekend. I had to come back today and I already want to go back tomorrow damnit. So impressed by the quality of this drink, the feeling of community in this space, and the patience and hospitality offered by these two (as i can be quite indecisive at times). I hope to have many more drinks here. 😋

Google
Saturday morning walk at Balboa Park, with black fresh coffee in hand. We searched for coffee shop close to Balboa Park that was open early and stopped at Mnemonic coffee. First impression was great with very friendly staff and relaxing atmosphere. There were a few customers enjoying their drinks and doing some work . We picked up drinks Togo and headed for a stroll around the park. Would recommend this convenient stop if you are in the neighborhood. Easy to find parking near entrance.

Google
Thanks to some kind redditers, got this recommendation from San Diego sub, and didn’t delay to visit. It’s a cute typical downtownish coffee spot and safe to say that all the hype is worth, and the coffee is really good. I had my regular cappuccino, the coffee texture and the espresso shots blended smoothly with the milk and if you’re a coffee connoisseur you’d be in for a treat! My only complaint is I wish they had told in prior that by default they use oat milk in all their drinks! (Okay, I noticed they put oat milk in the menu after I placed my order )

Google
The coffee is good here. Interesting atmosphere in the place. You can also buy coffee beans or some souvenirs. Good music is played in the cafe. Nice staff

Google
One of my favorite shops in all of San Diego! The owners are extremely hospitable and their coffee knowledge and expertise is second to none in San Diego. Never had a bad shot or latte here. They also keep a great selection of beans from various roasters, local and international. Hope this shop stays busy until the owners want to move on to their next step!

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised with how much I love my order. It was my first time there. Didn't know what to order and I went with The Mint Condition hot. Amazing!!! Perfectly balanced drink. Thank you for making my morning!

Jonathan F.

Yelp
The two baristas (i think owners?) were very kind and made me feel at easy even asking questions about the menu. Which is something I appreciate especially when trying new shops. The shop is like a small bar vibe and I absolutely loved it! It felt cozy. The coffee was very good. We got seasonal beverages and they were both delicious. I appreciated the subtle sweetness to really let the coffee shine through.

Yelp
I order an iced vanilla latte just about everywhere I go and Mnemonic's vanilla latte, named The Basic, is one of the best I've ever had. Their espresso is smooth and the vanilla syrup is made in house, making it a perfectly executed latte. I also love that all of their drinks are made with oat milk (almond milk is also offered). The interior is awesome and the two owners make the shop as special as it is. Highly recommend this coffee shop in Bankers Hill

Joey W.

Yelp
This spot has been on my list and was finally in the area to try it. The inside had a fun casual bar vibe up against a barber shop. I came in but the baristas were talking to each other and did not say anything even when I came up to the counter ready to order. So it felt a little unwelcoming. I ended up ordering my latte to go (25 cents up charge). The Basic - a good vanilla latte but expensive at $7.25. It's served with oat milk by default. The oat milk was coming through pretty strong.

Alice Y.

Yelp
Great spot for coffee! I came on a Thursday morning and it wasn't too packed with a couple seats still open at the bar. Ordered the cardi b and it was delicious - the cardamom flavor was distinct but not overpowering and the subtle orange flavor was a great touch. Service was very friendly and the environment is great to catch up with a friend or get some work done.

Ginger P.

Yelp
Great vibes and coffee with friendly service. There is somewhat limited seating and it's a small space with artsy decor. I got "the basic" latte which is a very well made vanilla latte. The coffee flavor is deep and the sweetness and flavor of the vanilla syrup is just right. I ordered mine with light ice and it was made just the way I like. They also have a variety of teas and non-caffeinated options on the menu and a pretty big seasonal menu as well. I was really impressed with this cafe and will be back. Do keep in mind that most of the parking around is paid parking.

Kaleena B.

Yelp
It's been a bit over a year since Mnemonic Coffee opened up in Banker's Hill and it remains my favorite spot for a delicious latte treat. The vibes and atmosphere are fantastic and it's obvious that they've built a community that feels very welcoming. Service remains top-notch. I purchased one of their new tumblers as I was in the market for one and like the design. $35 and your first drink fill is included as purchase, with .25 off every order moving forward. It's great quality and easy to clean; I'm pleased with the purchase.

Jen N.

Yelp
Such a great spot in Bankers Hill! They have excellent coffee/espresso beverages, but also teas and other specialty (and seasonal) drinks made with homemade syrups for the non-coffee drinker. I have tried several different things, and all were good. The owners are super nice and make everyone feel welcome. They are always testing new things and coffee from many different roasters to bring customers the best options. They have some seating inside, and it's often full because they have a lot of regular customers. They do fun food pop ups and offer have pastries from other local spots. Mnemonic has been a great addition to Bankers Hill!

Kathy T.

Yelp
First timer :) It's been on my list. I arrived at 8am in the morning and there were already regulars sitting at the tables and bar. While waiting in line i can tell it's not a typical coffee shop. They really go out their way to get to know their customers. I ordered a seasonal drink called the Overlook, Cider with maple cold foam and blueberry donut! It was good. If definitely come back

Dima K.

Yelp
Mnemonic Coffee is such a cool spot! You can tell the owners really take pride in their craft. The coffee and other drinks are delicious. The vibe is inviting. I look forward to going back soon!

Yelp
COOL VIBES (4 stars) Women owned! - FOOD/DRINK: good - SERVICE: excellent - PRICE: pricier - AMBIANCE: cool vibes Lots of foot traffic, there is a liking amongst the locals. It's small but has counter seats and very few tables. When you walk in it's very inviting. SWEET PASTRY ($6.50) - three layers, 2x. It was yummy. Had a thin layer of chocolate (top layer had hazelnut + gold flakes), followed by passion fruit, and cake, and then repeat. I love how all flavors were present and the cake broke up the sweetness. HIGHLY RECOMMEND MY CHERRY AMOUR ($8.50) - Luxado cherry syrup, nibble chocolate, espresso, milk, black salt, luxardo cherry on top. I tried a tiny sip of their espresso shot, sour but more tolerable than most. This drink all together was rich, decadent but not overly sweet - and you can request to lighten the sweetness. Presentation was gorgeous, served in a ceramic cup, beautiful foam art, and garnished like a cocktail with a cherry on top. It was the perfect of chocolate, semi-sweet/tart, and salty. Mouth was filled with chocolate sip and then the light taste of cherry and a salty finish of sipping the foam. I couldn't taste the bean profile with all this flavor. After drinking it 1/3 thru I wish I went with a simpler drink to sip on. Although this drink was good, it was a bit pricy and the priciest latte on the menu. RECOMMEND Can't wait to come back to try their teas and iced beverages! Until the next review....

Staph J.

Yelp
A good spot for coffee, and I'd visit again. Has a unique and cozy interior. I ordered a latte and it had a great taste. The latte art was also very cute

Eileen M.

Yelp
Loved the coffee and the vibe! I ordered the iced mocha drink and it was great. Normally they are a bit to thick or too sweet, but this tasted so good and was strong too. Ordered the last 2 breakfast burritos and it hit the spot. The price was excellent... 2/$5. Branding and merch was a lot of fun, and when I looked at the shirt I realized the owners were the ones serving us. That is so rare to see these days, but you could tell they provided us with a quality product and experience

Halle J.

Yelp
The line was long on a Sunday morning but it moved pretty quick and the staff was friendly and helpful when picking drinks. I got the seasonal special, the cardi B latte and it was delicious and perfectly sweet for cardamom fans!

Adrian V.

Yelp
Came here on a recommendation ration from a friend. Only place that I found that has Costa Rican beans, a bit on the fruity side, but it wasn't bad at all.

Xuan N.

Yelp
I just want to say I live for these little local gems. Located right near Balboa Park, this is the perfect place to stop by for coffee before going on a walk along the park. The Basic (9/10): I was amazed by how strong the coffee flavor was. The sweetest of the vanilla they use counters the bitterness of the coffee perfectly. I love that they do not charge extra for alternative milk. The only downside I would say about this drink would be that it is not the cheapest. Although the shop is small there is some seating and it is connected with a barbershop where there is also some seating as well. Doesn't make much sense when I type it out but if you see it in person you would understand lol

Serena T.

Yelp
The reviews for this cafe are so high so I had to give it a try and I must say it lived up to the hype! This place is truly a hidden gem. The ambiance inside is unique and beautiful and the drinks are of the highest quality. I've only had their vanilla latte so far and oh my gosh, I dream about it. I've gotten decaf both times and it was still incredibly good. There's a strong vanilla and espresso flavor without either being overpowering. This is my new go to coffee shop!

Alana Z.

Yelp
This place was so cute! Really feels like you're at your friend's house. The staff is so friendly and knowledgeable about coffee. The scary spice latte was out of this world with incredible fall flavors. Very cute merch and dog friendly!

Cindy K.

Yelp
Great coffee, super cute vibes! I got a vanilla latte and I loved the flavor of the vanilla playing with the coffee. It was not too overwhelmingly sweet and complimented the coffee very well. I also like how they don't charge extra for alternative milk! Nice touch :) There doesn't seem to be too much seating but I think there is seating next door at the barbershop? lol not sure. Love that this is also near Balboa Park so you can walk over there!

Cheska T.

Yelp
I got the scary spice! I really enjoyed my drink, the coffee was strong and flavorful! I believe they only have oat milk as a dairy option just as a heads up. Other than that, the staff was super friendly and there was a good amount of tables as well as bar seating if you want to do work/talk with friends. Would definitely come back

Tammie W.

Yelp
Such a cute shop in Banker's Hill and a great addition to the neighborhood. Our go to spot serving drinks in jars is around the corner, but I have to give Mnemonic a shout out for producing quality drinks, tons of variety, and fun options from coffee, tea, and zero proof carbonated bevies. My husband ordered his usual from every shop, which is The Basic (vanilla latte) which he got iced. One thing I appreciate is that all milk based drinks are served with oat milk, so the alt milk is baked into the price. It's not the milk we normally choose, but we like the plant forward choice. I ordered the Zephyr which is a non caffeinated sparkling drink that tasted like an orange cream soda. It was tasty and the orange foam gave a nice touch. The service was amazing and the two people who helped us were friendly. The prices are in line with other shops are charging, albeit steep, and the drinks come in one size.

Emily H.

Yelp
One of the BEST vanilla oat milk lattes I have had in a veryyyyy long time. Simple yet unique menu and very friendly service! Only 3 tables and minimal bar seating so be prepared to wait for a seat or take your coffee togo!

Bridget B.

Yelp
Ambiance Friendly service Smooth coffee This spot is so cute and in a great location. It is very small and not for big groups. Looking forward to trying more drinks here!

Katherine M.

Yelp
I'm an avid coffee drinker and this place was just a no for me. The location itself is very cute and the staff is absolutely lovely. But the coffee menu is extremely small and they don't have many options. We ordered three drinks ( 2 vanilla lattes & 1 chocolate mocha). All three had a strong earthy and chalky flavor. The more we drank the drier our mouths became. If you do come here maybe try their teas or signature drinks & avoid the lattes.

Jenny T.

Yelp
Such a gorgeous interior. I loved all the quirky decorations, beautiful colors, and the view of the barber shop next door behind the baristas. Everyone who helped us out was very kind and helpful! I ordered the basic, and loved the nice hints of vanilla throughout the sips. It was super tasty and I felt well caffeinated afterwards. This is located super close to Balboa Park so it's perfect for taking a stroll with coffee! Street parking wasn't too hard on a Sunday morning.

Ayham D.

Yelp
One of the best downtown coffee shops. Great cappuccino and I really like the interior. It's so easy on the eyes. The shop is clean and that's the most important consideration for me when I decide to stay and work somewhere. The menu is interesting and will keep me coming back to try more. Only downside is it closes at 2pm!

Thuy N.

Yelp
Excellent service Super thoughtful interior design Instagram friendly :) Notable Drinks: - Americano - the Basic - FLORA - Rwanda pour over Parking could be challenging, but very worth it! Top in San Diego!

Iris W.

Yelp
Delicious coffee, flaky pastries with cool vibes! So glad that I discovered this new coffee shop. The special coffee "The Filthy Animal" caught my eye immediately and it didn't disappoint. The nutty flavor from the hazelnut orgeat works perfectly with the oat milk. On top of that, the orange zest elevated the drink with its refreshing natural sweetness. I also got a chocolate hazelnut croissant that provided by Relic Bageri and liked it too. The owners are friendly and efficient with service. The only thing that's slightly inconvenient about coming to this place is parking. But street parking usually available within a block or two.

Jack M.

Yelp
This is a great small coffee shop in Banker's Hill. I had a cortado properly drawn in a glass vessel and a maple dough nut. The cortado was well made and very flavorful. The maple doughnut was tasty and well, it taste like maple! It was very soft too. It was perfect for taking it for little dips in the cortado. What I really liked about this place was the down to earth friendly demeanor of both of the owners of this shop. They are very welcoming and offer pleasant personalities. The coffee shop offers inside seating and Wi-Fi.

Nia J.

Yelp
HIGHLY recommend. Amazing people run this shop and their service, shop and drinks are stellar. Want coffee? Go here. Great bar seating or to go options.

Jasmine K.

Yelp
This coffee shop has quickly become one of my favorites. The decor here is so unique and unlike others, I love it. The owners Sarah and Gia run the show themselves, and they are always so sweet and welcoming. It truly feels like a cozy hangout filled with regulars and their furry friends. I usually just get the basic but there's nothing basic about it! The balance of coffee and sweetness is perfect. My friend and I have come here a couple of times now, and we look forward to making this spot our go-to.

Colleen K. C.

Yelp
We had a wonderful time at Mnemonic! I am disabled. The clerk carried my coffee outside to our table. That was extra nice. The flavor of the coffees was strong and good. We enjoyed seeing lots of dogs relaxing with their owners on the patio.

Sirena L.

Yelp
2nd time visiting here and it hasn't disappointed. Always a great visit! The atmosphere is super chill and laid back, small for sure so depending on the time of day you may or may not find a seat but luckily it's not a far walk from balboa park to enjoy your coffee there! The staff is always super welcoming and friendly which I appreciate! Parking can be a little tough but not impossible! Majority of spots closest to the shop you will have to pay though so keep that in mind.

Shantel C.

Yelp
My friends and I got the blue jasmine tea, golden yunnan, and schisandra berry, and all three of the teas were PERFECTLY brewed and such nice quality. My only qualm is that it's far from my home It's a little small inside, but the vibes are immaculate.

Laura M.

Yelp
As we were driving off little Italy on a busy Saturday morning where finding parking there is imposible or u have to pay $49, I looked up coffee places and found Mnemonic. It is a cute small coffee shop with super nice people and great tasting coffee. I was with my teen daughter and you know how picky they are! She loved her iced coffee while I enjoyed my hot spiced latte. Btw, no trouble finding parking on the street! Definitely planning to come back with my son later.

Vivian T.

Yelp
Mnemonic may be the newest coffee shop in Bankers Hill, but the experience the owners have towards coffee is well versed. Their menu consists of classic coffees, specialty coffees, teas, ceremonial teas, and zero proof drinks. Also, for all the milk-based drinks, they will use oat milk! There were some out of the ordinary drinks that I'm curious about, but for a safe choice I did go for The Basic which is a vanilla latte. I could really spot the difference in the vanilla they use compared to a syrup and could even see some vanilla bean specks in the cup. I think the price is more than average for a latte, however, I do take into consideration that they use oat milk and admittedly agree it's very good and is listed under their specialties for a reason. They were also ready to answer any questions we might have and were very kind!

Nathalie B.

Yelp
Mnemonic Coffee is a true haven for coffee enthusiasts. The vanilla latte I ordered was expertly crafted, with just the right balance of rich espresso and creamy sweetness. The ambiance of the cafe is cozy and inviting, making it the perfect spot to relax or catch up with friends. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, ensuring a pleasant experience from start to finish. Whether you're a coffee connoisseur or simply in need of a caffeine fix, Mnemonic Coffee is sure to satisfy your cravings. Highly recommend!

Christopher L.

Yelp
The coffee here is great! We got the basic oat and the mint! Both solid choices and great baristas!

Jenna V.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised with how smooth my drink was. I had the iced vanilla latte half sweet with oat milk. If you will frequent this spot I think it's worth noting that they charge 25 cents for a cup. If you bring your own, there is no charge. My total was $7.25, so a little steep but definitely on par with San Diego coffee pricing. The staff were really kind and helpful. It is very cute inside, but seating is a little limited. Worth visiting if you are in Banker's Hill.

Han L.

Yelp
The coffee here is excellent and the space is beautiful. Thankful for this shop, check it out.

Danielle B.

Yelp
Love love love it here so much!! It's always such a vibe. The cutest addition to Bankers Hill. The baristas are so knowledgeable and you can just tell they love making coffee and know what they're doing. The menu options are great. It can get busy but it's worth your time to enjoy a cup at the bar if you can get a seat. The best morning golden hours are here.

Leila E.

Yelp
I just had an amazing experience at Mneumonic coffee. From the vibes, the music, the service and the quality of their coffee beverages I cannot complain. Everything was absolutely delicious! I tried a special coffee called the Flora. It consisted of peppermint tea, topo Chico, and something blue. The quality of the drink was superb, and I could not recommend it enough. My boyfriend tried their milk, which was extremely delicious. The rich chocolate was not too overpowering, and the coffee balanced very well with the sweetness. The owners make this place so special and answer any and all questions that you might have! I will certainly be back soon and highly recommend this spot to all!!!!

Ling J.

Yelp
This coffee shop is a vibe - got nothing but good energy from the baristas to the music to the decor. If I lived closer in the area I could see myself coming more often. Got the iced americano - it wasnt the best I've ever had (still good though) as it had a slightly more acidic note when it first hit the tongue BUT wow what a smooth and lovely after taste. The other reviews say the pour overs are great so I'll have to try that next time. We got here around 9am on a friday morning & by the time we paid there was already a line out the door.

Cara P.

Yelp
I ordered the mint latte. OH MY GOODNESS - it was amazing. I was visiting from LA but I will def be back. they were celebrating their one year birthday and I love a good party!

Matthew B.

Yelp
Mnemonic Coffee is a great addition to Bankers Hill. There is indoor seating, but space is limited. It's a great place to pick up some coffee & hit Balboa Park afterwards. The service is nice and friendly. ALL milked based drinks served with oat milk. I ordered the Basic iced latte, 12 oz | $7.25 (which is a house made vanilla latte). The drink was sweet and creamy. The espresso was not very strong, so this is a great drink for those who don't enjoy the 'coffee' taste. 2nd visit: I ordered the Basic iced latte 1/2 sweet and the drink was perfectly balance to my liking. You could taste the vanilla + espresso and creaminess from the oat milk. I believe every drink comes in 12 OZ, so you cannot ask for an upgrade. Hopefully near future they can provide larger options for those who prefer it.

Sarah H.

Yelp
Had this place bookmarked for weeks, and finally gave it a go last weekend. Despite the lowkey vibe and not many recent reviews, we were pleasantly surprised. The artsy and intimate ambiance inside struck the right chords. Be warned, though - limited space, and it surprisingly filled up around 10:30 am. We aimed for bar seating but had to settle for a table as it was occupied. The vibes were still on point - thoughtfully curated and not forced or too mainstream. I ordered The Basic hot with oat milk, while my husband went for The Gateway iced with oat milk. The Basic stole the show, delivering on both flavor and warmth. The Gateway had a strong cacao-like punch, a tad acidic for our taste. Five stars for the vibes and good coffee; we'll definitely be back. Fingers crossed the weekend lines stay manageable next time!

Claire J.

Yelp
WOW. SO good. While the latte with oat milk and vanilla was $8, it was one of the best I've had. I rarely leave coffee reviews but this deserved a 5 star. Will be a regular :) Such sweet staff as well.

Brandon C.

Yelp
This place is a vibe. Great decor and wonderful funk music playing while I was there. Both baristas were lovely and coffee came out quickly. I got The Basic (Vanilla Latte) and it was fantastic and looks like they use real vanilla bean in their vanilla flavor. It was delicious. They may have mistaken sawdust for flour with the shortbread cookie this particular day. Not great. It happens. Pretty solid experience, will definitely be back.

An T.

Yelp
Came early and got a hot latte and a basic latte with house-made vanilla. The basic latte was sweeter with a subtle vanilla flavor. Both were super smooth and we finished them quickly! Cute little space with big graphic art, connected to a salon. You can sit at the bar or side tables, and they have adorable merch on a small shelf. Overall, great vibes!
