The Best Restaurants in Mira Mesa | Eater San Diego

"This popular Japanese hot-pot restaurant chain opened its Mira Mesa outpost in late 2020, giving San Diegans the opportunity to taste their famous shabu-shabu broth, made in-house with kombu (edible kelp). Another option is the sweet sukiyaki, made with a soup base produced in their Japanese kitchen. The Kurobuta pork shoulder and beef short plate are must-try meats to accompany fish and pork meatballs and fish tofu." - Helen I. Hwang

I’m absolutely in love with this place! Hands down the best shabu shabu I’ve had all year. The quality, the flavor everything is spot on. Highly recommend! The sukiyaki set is chef’s kiss. Big Thank you to Lia and Tiff for all your assistance and kindness.

Went for AYCE lunch at 30 pp. The quality of the meat was very good and fresh. Assortment at the bar for vegetables, mushrooms, etc was very good. Everything looked and tasted fresh. Quality of meat and ingredients are good. 4 Broths to choose from for Shabu shabu. Staffs were attentive and super efficient. After we stuffed our faces, we got some ice cream too! Overall a good experience and we will be back.

Our favorite hot pot!! Excellent quality and so flavorful! Many vegetables, meats and sides to choose from. The a.c is nice and strong, so we can eat hot pot even on a hot summer day! Staff is always friendly and helpful. Highly recommend!

Based upon a recent visit, Mo Mo paradise has my heart again! I visited here a couple of months ago and had a not so great experience but since then I returned and had a complete 180 visit! Staff was attentive and helpful and the food was excellent as usual. I hope they continue to keep up the changes for all guests with children.

Google
Mo-Mo Paradise, a renowned international franchise famous for its sukiyaki hotpot, has its only San Diego location here, and it doesn't disappoint. With a more upscale and modern decor than their LA County locations, it's a perfect spot for hotpot enthusiasts, especially if you're a fan of Sukiyaki and Shabu-shabu. Weekday lunch specials are more affordable than weekend, holiday, or evening prices, though they lack options like pork belly and chicken thighs. Be sure to arrive before 2 pm for lunch, as that’s the last seating time. We visited on a busy Sunday night, and despite the crowd, the experience was well worth it. Before starting the hotpot, I highly recommend the beef curry with rice and the AYCE beverages. You can even DIY your own milk tea, choosing from Matcha or Jasmine tea with toppings like crystal boba, coffee jelly, and red bean—a fun and customizable way to start your meal. You can choose one or two soup bases from Shabu-shabu, Tomato, Tonkotsu, or Sukiyaki—with Sukiyaki being my personal favorite for its rich, sweet flavor. At the Farmer's Market section, you can grab as many vegetables, tofu, noodles, and salad as you want. For the AYCE proteins, they offer beef chuck eye, beef short plate, beef eye of round, pork shoulder, pork belly, and chicken thigh. I particularly enjoyed the beef eye of round and pork shoulder—both leaner cuts that pair perfectly with the dipping egg mixture. The staff is friendly, though a bit overwhelmed due to the crowd, so we had to call them multiple times to order more protein. As a sweet finish, they offer ice cream, and the Rocky Road scoop, with its blend of chocolate and mochi, was a standout dessert. While the price is slightly higher, the quality of food, variety of options, and overall dining experience make it worth it for a great AYCE hotpot experience.

Google
We loved it!! The food is simply delicious!! We highly recommend making reservations, and going during lunch time because is less busy. Josh our server was very attentive and helpful. It was our first time going, and his recommendation worked out great. For the amount of food we ate the price was reasonable. The place has a lot of parking. Looking forward to go back again. :)

We came for lunch one year ago and this time came for dinner. Both instances, we made reservations on Open Table. It gets crowded. Lunch is $25.95 and dinner is $34.95. You have access to all 6 meats for dinner and only 4 during lunch. You have access to the sauce and vegetable. For the unlimited non-craft soda and milk tea, it’s an extra $2.55. Beer mugs are 50% off on Wednesday. You’re only allowed two soup selection out of the 4. We got the two most popular, shabu-shabu and tonkotsu. Honestly, I think their broth was so bland and no flavor. I had to make a good sauce concoction to dip my meats. There are 3 beef flavors, 2 pork and 1 chicken. For the first round, we got one of each. Then for the rest, we only stuck to beef. The beef short plate is really fatty. I have to say, their meat selection is limited. But the quality is there. I’m just not impressed with their soup. There’s also rice with beef shabu curry. The curry was extremely bland. Needed your own spice but it smelled so good! I would have to say dessert was the best part. Nothing special, just ice cream. We had a scoop of vanilla, strawberry cheesecake, and caramel pralines.

Google
Soups bases were all good and clean. The shabu was kinda bland but what do I know. Being Chinese, with hot pots I'm accustomed to, just more bold flavors. Honestly the proteins were a bit underwhelming, but what saved it was the buffet style of other things you could throw in there. That was actually better than the meats...but not for $40+ per head. If I am going to eat out needs to be better than whatever I can do at home. Was nice to try but wouldn't optionally go back.

Yelp
Wow, I really like Mo-Mo-Paradise for hotpot! I came here yesterday with my boyfriend and had a reservation online. There is a big parking lot, so it is really easy to find parking. The hostess, waiters, and all the staff were friendly and helpful. You choose your broth, either 1 whole or 2 split. Then, you choose your meats. They have a side bar where you can get milk tea, sodas, and teas. I got their flavored tea with crystal boba and it was so good! They have a side bar with udon, noodles, and vegetables to add to the hotpot, along with rice and curry. They also give you Ponzu and Goma sauce, which goes well. In addition, you can get ice cream at rhe end for dessert. I will definitely return and will try their cocktails!!

Yelp
I always hear about Mo-Mo Paradise and finally got the chance to try it out recently! We came early on a weekday so it wasn't too busy, but the place started to fill up over the course of our meal. They did end up enforcing the time limit for us. They have a few different meat options, but we tried a few and ended up just ordering a million beef short plates since it was the best one in our opinion. Their all you can drink special is pretty worth it if you enjoy having a variety of sweet drinks with your meal, but for me personally I'd rather save space in my stomach for more meat. They have a decent selection of veggies, carbs, and other add-ins at their self-service salad bar. Make sure to try their curry! Service was quick and our waitress was super friendly and helpful! They used to automatically include 18% service charge, but it was recently removed with their menu update. Overall, good food although the price is a bit steep since it's AYCE. I'd say if you have a big appetite or are feeling extra hungry, you could make it worth your money, otherwise you'd probably be better off going to another hot pot place and ordering a la carte.

Yelp
Review is for lunch on a Saturday. This place is basically All You Can Eat (AYCE) hotpot. The soup is good. The meats are good. The veggie and seafood bar could be improved. If you compare their veggie/seafood bar to other AYCE hotpot places like Shabu Worlds, others have a larger and better selection. Most of their tables are 4 seaters. You share a pot in the middle of the table. You can choose 2 soup bases. Servers were friendly. The time limit is 1.5 hours, they will start warning when it's time. Desert is ice cream. Choice between: chocolate, dark cherry, and vanilla. Price for two is $69.99 plus tax and 18% service fee. Overall, food is good, price is a little high when. You can get better hotpot for the same price at other places. I don't like the place. Nor do I hate it.

Yelp
Been to momo in Taiwan a million times but still didn't know what to expect here. The experience in general wasn't bad. For soup base we ordered shabu and sukiyaki and both of them were pretty good. Sukiyaki wasn't terribly sweet. Chuck ribs is their best all you can eat meat, but if you want something fatter, go with the belly, it's really tasty as well. Service was very attentive and quick. I'd be back again the next time I'm in San Diego.

Yelp
We came on a Sunday for an early dinner around 5:30pm. I feel like this is a good time to go as it didn't start getting busy until after 6-6:30pm! Our server was very sweet and they're pretty quick with bringing over the meat every time you order. We chose the sukiyaki and shabu shabu broth, both were amazing! Also, paying a little bit more for the all you can drink is worth it! My favorites are the momo peach and passionfruit oolong tea :). You also can't forget about trying their curry, which is located next to the rice cooker. I would suggest trying it a little towards the end tho, to prioritize making room for your shabu shabu. I was way too hungry to take pictures, but overall my experience here was 10/10. Parking: pretty easy to get parking since it's located in a big plaza! Highly suggest setting up a reservation if you're planning to give this place a try!

Yelp
Date of visit: December 15, 2023 My friend Wendy and I came to Mo-Mo Paradise a couple of weeks ago to exchange Christmas presents and catch up. The concept behind this shabu-shabu place is as follows: choose your broth and your meats, then make your way to the veggie, protein, and noodle bar to choose what you want, and enjoy your meal within 90 minutes. Ooh, everything was goooooood... while it took a while for our broths (I chose shabu-shabu; Wendy chose tonkatsu) to start boiling, once they did, our meats cooked rather quickly. We went with a mix of beef and pork, and I also followed a few other Yelpers' advice about cooking the noodles later in the broth as so the flavors would soak in. One caveat - arrive hungry! As you only have 90 minutes at your table (which our servers reminded us of as there were other parties waiting), you won't be able to finish everything... and there's no takeout option. I felt bad about leaving uneaten food at our booth; then again, I did load up a bit on the curry and rice... The restaurant itself has a trendy and chic appearance, matched by the professionalism of the servers. Definitely want to come back to Mo-Mo Paradise again, but with an emptier stomach!

Yelp
First time here and it was pretty good! I tried the tonkatsu broth and sukiyaki -- although I do not like sweet soup so my fave is always tonkatsu! The beef short plate was the best cut of meat in my opinion, cut thinly and it was tender. The selection for veggies and noodles is good, although wish they had corn or maybe quail eggs. I love their drinks, which are craft sodas or teas, and they also provide boba on the side! Service was pretty basic and not over the top, but still fine. Inside was clean. I would recommend this place to others.
google avatar

Hahudy B.

Yelp
A relaxing hotpot spot after my awful construction shift. The meat selections were on point! Pork belly was super fatty and delicious and the beef round eye was also very tender. Sukiyaki broth had such a great umami flavor and all the vegetables and meats absorbed the broth. Tonkotsu broth had less flavor but helped cut out the saltiness from the other broth. The ice cream was also great as the vanilla ice cream was very creamy. Highly recommend!

Yelp
My favorite shabu place here other than yintang. I like their approach, simplify and focus on quality ingredients.

Grace C.

Yelp
When planning to come, its better to make a reservation. We came early and good thing the table was set up early too. The place is clean, however I think its a bit small place. Our server was friendly and always asks if we need more meat. By the way, they remove chicken meat, so its just beef and pork. Meats, veggies and noodles are fresh. We chose sukiyaki and tonkutsu broth. It all taste good. Also, there's quite a lot of beverages to choose from and its unli but don't drink much you'll get full fast. Very satisfying experience and will come back again.

Yelp
All you can eat hot pot and more. I really liked all the other additions, like the curry and rice, ginger salad and drinks. The best deal is to go during lunch.

Yelp
This was a nice little Shabu spot! Momo Paradise is located in Mira Mesa as an all you can eat restaurant. They serve a total of 6 meats, (2 of which are only available during the weekend or dinner time) and are all long pieces. The menu is a bit limited but the choices are enough to fill you up and are varied. You have a section where you can fill up on boba, soda, as well as veggie and other small items that you serve yourself that's a little walk from your seat, similar to a buffet style. The price is a bit high for dinner time, as for two people it comes out to $34 each. The meats were all decent with the pork shoulder being our favorite from the selection. Service was quick and attentive when we went around midday, although I don't think I saw more than 2-3 people working the floor so they did a good job spacing out and covering all of the tables. Definitely will keep this one on my radar in the future for another hot pot visit!
google avatar

Ginny R.

Yelp
All of the staff were EXCELLENT + have great customer service. 10/10. The food was just okay. There's not really a variety of veggies or menu items to choose from. The beverage bar/choices were probably the best part of our visit. I would not eat at this restaurant again, unfortunately. If you are going to try it, def make a reservation online. They book up QUICK since they're really the only hot pot in the area.

Yelp
Ayce shabu shabu in Mira Mesa! Love this spot and have been here a handful of times now. MAKE SURE YOU MAKE A RESERVATION. Wait times for dinner can be hours long without one so make sure to prepare. Food: You pick 1 or 2 soup bases. Shabu shabu, tomato, and sukiyaki are usually my go-tos and will pick based on what the group is in the mood for. Then you order your meats from the menu and they'll bring it out to you. They recommend to order one plate of each meat to start which is great if your not sure what you want. Then you go to the self-serve bar to get your noodles, veggies, etc. to throw in. Next to the bar they have ayce beef curry thats really good but beware as it can fill you up quick. My first time I had like 4 servings of it lol. They also have self-serve milk tea/fruit tea/boba drinks for an extra charge but it's worth it. Enjoy! Service: Staff has always been super nice and attentive each time I've been from start to finish! It can be hard to flag one down at times so I wish they had a better way to get a server's attention especially if you're seated in the back area. Ambiance: Pretty spacious inside and great for groups. Can get smoky plus the self-serve bar area can get backed up but all is worth it for the great ayce experience. Water: Pretty standard tasting water but the boba bar makes up for me.

Yelp
Finally, I got to try Mo-Mo paradise after trying it at the Yelp Halloween event last year. It was my husband and I first time having hot pot, and we loved it. Our waiter was very informative and walked us through the process. We ordered the Shabu-Shabu and the Tonkotsu for our soups. We did enjoy both, but I did enjoy the Tonkotsu more. Personally, I felt that it had more flavor. For the meats, we got the beef chuck eye, beef short plate, and the beef eye of round. The service was phenomenal. Our order was out within minutes. I loved the veggitables and noodles options at their farmers' market. We definitely kept going back for more noodles. Lastly, the goma sauce was the cherry on the top with every bite. I'm definitely gonna be coming back; however, I would make a reservation. We didn't have a reservation when we visited, but thankfully, the manager got us seated; however, we had 60 minutes instead of 90. Personally, it was still more than enough time considering how fast the service was, but i would still make a reservation, just to play it safe.

Yelp
Mo-Mo Paradise in San Diego offers a luxurious dining experience with a focus on high-quality beef and traditional Japanese hot pot. Located in Mira Mesa, this restaurant specializes in shabu-shabu and sukiyaki styles, providing a modern twist on these classic dishes !
google avatar

Stephanie O.

Yelp
Staff was friendly, lucky us we didn't wait long. Everything was pretty quick to be seated. My friend and I were looking for something to warm up to after running errands all afternoon evening, and wanted to try somewhere new. The cocktails were pretty inexpensive, anywhere between $6-9, but the all you can drink option was probably one of the best deals around. There were enough options veggie wise, but fewer meat options than other hot pot styled places. We both enjoyed the tonkatsu and shabu shabu broth options.
google avatar

Marc L.

Yelp
Came here with my sister on a Sunday for lunch. Was pleasantly surprised. Nice little Shabu Shabu place. Did the AYCE for Lunch. Meat was good. Sliced neatly with good presentation. You have the option of two different soup bases. We choose traditional and sukiyaki. Both broths had lots of flavor. I like a spicy broth so I got some of the Spicy Soy dipping sauce to kick things up a bit. Meats had good flavor. And the servers we very attentive about getting additional meat. Overall a good experience. Will definitely be back. One note is that they charge an 18% service charge up front, but they make sure to let you know once you sit down.

Yelp
Not much of a hot pot fan but of the few that we've tried, this is by far one of our favorites. The service here is great- our waiter seated us quickly and got us started on which broths to get and got us squared away on the meat options. Its all you can eat so be sure to try a bit of everything- we prefered the lean meats which was very good! We went with the waiter's recommendation of tonkatsu and sukiyaki. Both were verybtasty but in order to make it spicy you have to have the waiter add some drops of hot oil which is pretty spicy. They recommended one to two drops but we ended having to do 4 to 5. We can eat pretty spicy so start low and add more if needed. In addition to the hot pot, they have a curry and rice that is included as well. The curry is super good- careful not too est too much or you'll be too full to enjoy the all you can eat hot pot! Also, the drinks are pretty tasty too! They have craft soda and even milk tea and boba for a small additional cost. And lastly, dessert is even included- you get a choice of ice cream. We got the cherry ice cream which was a perfect way to end the meal! Be sure to get here early or call to make reservations cause they get really busy!

Yelp
Love this place so much I went twice in a week lol. $35 pp for dinner and weekends. Includes all food items, drinks are extra ($2.55). Alcoholic drinks are about $5-$8. Lots of good meat, we were told meat is AYCE only for the first hour. Meats included beef and pork mainly, but there is chicken thigh too. But you can dine for up to 90 minutes. The "farmers market" area has lots of other options like veggies, noodles, tofu and pork and fish balls. Included is also ice cream, I recommend the salted caramel! This is Japanese style shabu and not the same as other hot pot places such as Little Sheep. I lived in Japan awhile and I prefer this one as it brings back memories with friends during my time there, not to mention it's delicious! My favorite in the area.

Yelp
*DISCLAIMER REVIEW IS FOR A NON-MEAT EATER* My friends and I came here on a Sunday evening for an early dinner. We arrived at 5pm and had called ahead to get a table. It wasn't busy at all when we arrived and were seated once our entire party was available. Food: I ordered the tomato broth (it is vegan). Since I don't eat meat, I got all my food from the veggie bar. They have a great selection of veggies. My favorites were all the mushroom varieties provided. I also ate a lot of ramen and udon. I know that's a faux pas in an ayce setting, but I like what I like. The food was good and I enjoyed myself. My friends had the sukiyaki broth and thought it was very good. Service: Service was very quick and friendly. Our server came by often to ask if the table wanted to order any more proteins, and the proteins came out quickly. The vegetable bar is self serve so that was easy. When it's busier, the line for the veggie bar can get pretty long though. TL;DR - great hot pot place even for a vegetarian like myself

Yelp
I'm usually not a big hotpot fan but my first time eating here was so good! Both broths were so flavorful and my dad enjoyed eating here as well! Will be back soon to take the rest of my family

Yelp
Mo Mo leaves me wanting more more! My friends and I came here as a group of 5 on a Saturday with a reservation and we waited about 15 minutes to get seated. The soup selection is large and we were able to choose from 4 broths. We choose the tonkotsu snd sukiyaki. We e we're able to choose if we wanted a split pot, but we chose to have two big individual pots because there was a lot of us. For dinner, we tried all the meats. My favorite was the Kurobota Pork shoulder and beef chuckeye. They also have curry & rice but I chose not to have that. It did look amazing, though. At the salad area, they had several veggies such as bok choy and cabbage and also fish tofu, fish balls, and pork balls. I checked in for the udon set and it was delicious! I like the sauce bar there and also the all you can drink. The jasmine tea was awesome and they even had jellies (boba, coffee jelly) you can put in. All you can drink costs and extra $2.55. It was two of my friend's birthday so the waiters brought out a special ice cream with a candle and sang them a song! So nice! Note: an 18% gratuity is placed on every order. Overall, a wonderful place to have Shabu Shabu and I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here!

Yelp
Omg, I LOVED the food here! This hot pot is AYCE and all you can drink (boba, teas, etc.) for additional couple dollars. It's such a great deal. Definitely make a reservation as the restaurant fills up quickly. Plenty parking available in the lot. We started with the curry and salad. Definitely recommend the curry and rice, it's so flavorful. The Farmer's Market has a variety of different veggies to try, all super yummy. As for meats, we tried them all except the chicken. We ordered the tonkotsu and sukiyaki broths. The sukiyaki one is way more flavorful. The mo-mo paradise drink was yummy, definitely on the sweeter side! The boba wasn't great, but it's awesome they have that available. The scoop of ice cream was such a great treat and it's included in the price, which is a plus. Definitely recommend giving this place a try. I'll for sure be back for more!

Yelp
We came around lunch, and since we had a reservation, we were seated quickly. The restaurant was also not busy when we came in; several tables were open. The staff was also lovely and friendly in assisting the diners. It was my first time coming here, and since I wasn't from the area, I let my brother order the broth for me. He got us the tonkotsu broth. The tonkotsu broth was light and flavorful. The meats were also great. The beef slices were excellent quality and fresh. There was also a great variety of vegetable options, tofu, fish balls, etc, in the bar station. I wished they replenished the noodles at the station. There weren't any udon noodles, and only a few ramen noodles were available. I also enjoyed the milk teas, and I love that you can get milk teas (or other drinks) as much as you want if you get the all-you-can-drink special. Overall, I enjoyed my meal here at Mo-Mo-Paradise. This is a great place to spend time with friends, family or dine by yourself since they cater to everyone. I will definitely come back here again if I'm in the area.

Yelp
We love coming to mo-mo's, especially on cold cloudy days when soup is calling our name! They have multiple options for broth. You can choose one or two. We ordered the tonkatsu and sukiyaki (our favorite, rich flavorful umami taste). For meats, we ordered beef short plate and beef chuck eye (our favorite meat choice). What I love about this shabu-shabu restaurant is the self-serve bar. They have dry seasonings, several boba and drink options, as well as fresh veggies, Japanese curry, rice and noodles. They offer egg and udon noodles. There's plenty of parking available. I highly recommend making a reservation on the "open table" app. They also offer free ice cream with all-you-can-eat, but we've never tried it because we're so full by the end of our meal.
google avatar

Hannah Y.

Yelp
Came here with some friends and although it's AYCE, the experience is not that great. The options are not that impressive regarding the soup, toppings, or sauces. The meat quality was not that great either. People bring this place up for the fact that they have drinks included and dessert but I honestly didn't really think it made it that worth.
google avatar

Jessica C.

Yelp
This is a top date night spot for us. I would recommend getting a reservation cause the wait can be intense. The food is so good. The fresh meat and fresh veggies are great. We usually get sukiyaki. It's not for everyone but I think their broths are the best that I've had in SD. The service is great and always on top of their tables. The curry rice is a nice touch and the drink selection is very good.
google avatar

Yelp
3.5 stars. The first time I went here there was a two hour wait so we decided to go elsewhere. The second time I went here was with some friends, about 8 of us and they got our meat orders immediately. The only thing about the second experience was the fact that it was closer to closing so they rushed us in ordering our meats. It was fine but wished we enjoyed the food at a slower pace. FYI, we had a later reservation so it couldn't be helped. The third time we stopped by was with another set of friends. This time there were just 6 of us. The servers were attentive but not annoying. There were a lot more options when it came to the veggies since we came right when they opened. The sauces were fine though we weren't sure about some of them since there weren't any labels (none that we could see/find). In any case, we still grab a few items and added it to our ponzu. The goma was fine. The meat options were okay and the quality was pretty good. There's plenty of parking. The servers are nice. The price point isn't too bad and they really tell you when you're close to your two hour limit by asking what ice cream flavor you want to order. A little subtle but not rude at all. Would I come back here? Sure why not. I do prefer other shabu places but this isn't bad at all. It's still pretty tasty.

Yelp
While the menu is somewhat limited (4 soup and 6 meat choices, two of which are only available at dinner), Mo-Mo-Paradise offers great all-you-can-eat value. Table service is prompt, which is super important when you only have 90 minutes to do your thing! This place gets busy, and a bit messy at the self-serve stations - more staff may be needed to keep those areas tidy. Our party of four ordered the shabu-shabu (traditional dashi made in-house with kombu and bonito) and tonkatsu (rich and creamy pork broth), and went to town at the Farmers Market and Drink Garden. In retrospect, filling up on drinks may not have been the best AYCE decision (duly noted for next time ;). For proteins, I preferred the beef options (chuck eye, short plate, and eye of round) over the pork (belly and Kurobuta shoulder) and chicken (thigh), but you may as well try everything since it's all included... Don't forget ice cream at the end - the flavor changes each night!

Yelp
We tried to come here a few weeks ago as walk-ins and were turned away because you need a reservation. They did offer to try to find us a seat (fo 6) an hour later) but with two babies that was not a possibility. This past week we of course made a reservation for lunch and it was so worth it. This place is clean compared to a lot of other shabu restaurants and the dining experience feels elevated and more at ease where it's not loud and crowded. The dining table is spacious and there is a lot more attention to quality. While their meat choices are much more limited and you do have a 90 minute window when you check in, they will give you good quality meats and as much as you wish. The service was friendly and I actually enjoyed that the choices were more limited (shocking) because you could tell that the attention was towards quality. We got the sukiyaki and tonkatsu. I tried getting the raw eggs and cracking them to mix with the spicy red sauce from the spice section with chopped green onions. The thought of the raw eggs gave me a little ick but they were so good dipping the meat in after the broth to make the taste more mild. We'll definitely be back here for AYCE Shabu shabu!

Yelp
I went last week. I'm not sure if I'll return. It is good food of course but it's kind of a turn off when they tell you the price then tell you that are adding 18% (not as part of a tip) to give their employees a livable wage. Don't guilt me. It's just very off putting. Just raise your prices. You are making good money because you are always packed and the wait is crazy.

Yelp
Excellent, excellent, excellent from start to finish. I love Shabu Shabu on a rainy and cold day, and when I'm here, I always leave so happy and satisfied. It is a wonderful experience. I highly recommend their rice and Japanese curry. This time for Shabu Shabu - we picked tomato and tonkotsu soup bases. They are both so good, tomato is very flavorful and tastes great with any meat and vegetables alike. There is a salad/veggies bar where you pick and choose what you would like to cook in the soup. Their sauces collection is amazing too. My meat bite is always with a dash of ponzu, fresh sesame paste, and their spicy sauce. They also have a great selection of drinks. Jasmine milk tea with crystal boba is my favorite. This feast is limited to 90 minutes and ends with a delicious ice cream of your choice. Making a table reservation might be a good idea since they are always so busy.

Yelp
Solid 4 star only because the veggie bar was great but there was no seafood at all. The quality of the meats for lunch was just right with 3 beef options and 1 pork. The service was very good which we appreciated. They also have beef curry which is good. Their sauces were limited but you can found something that will cater to your palate. Based on the quality of the meats and the service we will definitely be back! How could i forget they also have ice cream beyond the vanilla & chocolate choices. They had this crunchy chocolate which was fantastic!

Yelp
Overall the food is good, the quality of the meat and the dipping sauces are special. However the experience is not that pleasant. The waiter keeps pushing us and remaindering how much time you have and this is last round you could order. Even I know the 90 mins policy but rushing people to finish is the least pleasant thing I could expect. My recommendation is find a non-busy time to visit here.

Yelp
Pros Food was good. Broth was super flavorful. Staff super friendly. Free ice cream!! Yuzu sour was really good. Clean. Lots of parking. Cons: 1 of our party was running a few minutes late and they made sure to point out that that they only hold the reservation for 15 minutes, but then our table wasn't ready in on time. Seemed hypocritical.

Yelp
First of all, I'd like to thank our server Grey for being so friendly and attentive! Awesome customer service!!! Honestly, food was just okay, AYCE with 4 soup selection, 6 meat choices for dinner and weekends (only 4 for lunch), seasonal vegetables, tofu, meatballs, rice and noodles. I wish there were more sauces and condiments to choose from but I love that they have self serve drinks that included bubble tea and craft sodas. They have community tables which I'm not fond of. Convenient location across Target in Mira Mesa Blvd with plenty of parking.

Yelp
We came here as a I won a voucher for a free meal for 2 with drink garden included. This was our first time coming here. It was a nice experience, love that you can pick your own veggies & assorted fish balls/meat balls. The soup bases we chose was the shabu-shabu (lighter colored broth) & the suki-yaki (darker colored broth). Our favorite broth between these two was definitely the suki-yaki, as it was very flavorful with a slight hint of sweetness. We also loved that they offer a free scoop of icecream for dessert at the end of your meal.

Yelp
We recently went to check out MoMo for their hot pot. I have been drooling over their instagram for a bit now so I was super excited we were going. Also, I didn't know that my Husband has never had hot pot before. I was happy we both got to experience all the amazingness that MoMo had to offer together! They have an unlimited drink bar with fountain drinks, teas, and BOBA!! DID I SAY UNLIMITED BOBA DRINKS!!! Everything was super fresh from the meats, veggies, and noodles. I really have to give a HUGE shout out to the staff!! Felipe (the manager) kinda saw how lost we looked and came over to help us get all of our fixings... (It must have been the look on our faces LOL). Adam was so on point in bringing us all the meats and kept coming back to check on us. And then Chef Daniel came out with Sprinkles and whip cream on my sons ice cream (so obviously that was his favorite part!) An amazing meal is always wonderful but to make it even better is the staff! Good food with bad service will always leave a sour taste. Thankfully everyone was SPECTACULAR! We left there completely full and happy!

Yelp
Yum yum yum !! This is the place to go if you want some good hot pot From the meats to the sides ( i LOVE the curry!!) it all hits the spot. The meat is high quality and though there's only about 5 choices they all taste amazing. They do also have some fun unlimited drinks like milk tea & Shirley temples. This is a great and fun place to go with friends or family! Nice servers who are helpful in choosing broth. I love that you can split the broth to accommodate all of your groups taste. Give it a shot & hope you like it! - your newbie SD gal

Yelp
We've been to Mo-Mo Paradise a few times now because we really like the quality of the meats, the soup broths, and the food available at the salad bar. If you've never been, your server can explain how dining there works. It is a cook your own shabu restaurant. You choose your broth flavor (they can split the flavors to 2 per pot if you want to try differrnt ones or if you and your companion can't agree on a soup flavor. Your server will ask for your meat order and bring it to your table. Your table has a communal ladle and ladle with sieve that you will use to retrieve your meats and veggies from the pot. You can also request raw eggs. You should crack the egg into one of the small dishes provided on your table, and then mix it. You take a piping hot piece of meat from the pot, dip it in the egg, and then eat it. You go to the salad bar in the back and serve yourself veggies and fishballs, meatballs, or tofu. Be mindful not to cross-contaminate the tongs for the meat, fish, and tofu! You serve yourself your own drinks (except alcohol which the server will bring you). The price of beverages is not included with your meal. At the end of the meal, the server may offer you ice cream to help cleanse your palette. There's usually a choice of 3 flavors. Each person in the party gets a small scoop. The ice cream is the same kind sold at Thrifty/Rite Aide. My husband really likes their sukiyaki broth. My daughter loves to go customize her drink and add boba in it. I love the beef curry and rice while I wait for the broth to heat up and all of my meats and vegetables to cook. The beef plate is a family favorite. My husband loves the pork shoulder, and pork belly when we go on the weekends. The servers are quick and friendly. The only items they bring us are the broths, the meats, alcoholic beverages, and ice cream at the end. They're quick to pick up empty trays and dishes so that there is plenty of room on the table. Most of the tables at Mo-Mo Paradise have a bench seat one one side of the table with chairs on the opposite side. The bench side often runs across so you have other parties next to you sharing the bench. For folks who use wheelchairs or a walker, the space is tight, but not inaccessible. The main entrance is on the side, not at the front where parked cars face. There is a multi-stall restroom tucked away in between the salad and drink bar, but watch your hands, the door can slam your hands in the doorway. Reservations can be made in advance. This is highly recommended if you have a large party. You should also check the seating hours for lunch and dinner. The restaurant closes to reset and prep in between.

Yelp
Tasty all you can eat Shabu Shabu hot pot! Loved the food here! The vegetables are very fresh and tasty. There's even curry and rice. The sauces are more on the fusion side instead of traditional Asian. The meat was very fresh and good! Loved the chicken thigh and pork meat! Service was friendly! Clean restaurant

Yelp
I had a reservation and arrived early. The restaurant was half occupied so I asked if my party could sit earlier. The worker said no because our reservation time was later. She then proceeded to call all the parties that had reservations that were late and left voice-mails saying they would hold their tables for 15 minutes. My party was seated after my reservation time (wtf?!) to a partially cleaned table. The server took a very long time to address my table. The salad bar area was poorly stocked, and most items were empty/missing. The drinks were all watered-down versions. The sauces were not impressive, almost bland. The server forgot we needed utensils to eat and had to be asked multiple times. The moral of the story: this is a true 2-star restaurant. The price is too great for what you're getting. They add gratuity but offer nothing in exchange. I'm glad I went so I know never to come and to let my family and friends know to avoid this place as well.

Yelp
Overall my experience was only okay - was a bit disappointed I want to open up first and say that the service is superb. All our orders were quickly delivered. We had reservations and were quickly attended to sat down. For before 6 on a Saturday we likely could have gotten away with a walk in as there were a handful of tables open. I was not a fan that there was only 2-3 tongs to use amongst all the vegetables. Seemed a bit unsanitary. Our soup skimmer and soup spoon was also left on the table in a cup that was filled with water - not sure if this was intentional or not. The meat options were limited and overall were fine, but none of the taste and quality blew our mind, and there wasn't really a sauce bar, only 2 mounds of sauces they make in house We got the sukiyaki and dashi stock. The sukiyaki was good and I appreciated that they provided extra water to avoid the broth from reducing and becoming overly salty. but the dashi stock tasted plain, as if it was just water. Last criticism is that the rice is made in a huge pot and left there and tasted very dry and almost undercooked. As mentioned, just okay, however not worth the AYCE price. I'd rather go to Shabu-Works down the street

Yelp
We came for lunch one year ago and this time came for dinner. Both instances, we made reservations on Open Table. It gets crowded. Lunch is $25.95 and dinner is $34.95. You have access to all 6 meats for dinner and only 4 during lunch. You have access to the sauce and vegetable. For the unlimited non-craft soda and milk tea, it's an extra $2.55. Beer mugs are 50% off on Wednesday. You're only allowed two soup selection out of the 4. I'm just not impressed with their soup. There's also rice with beef shabu curry. The curry was extremely bland. Needed your own spice but it smelled so good! I would have to say dessert was the best part. Nothing special, just ice cream. We had a scoop of vanilla, strawberry cheesecake, and caramel pralines.

Yelp
So glad Mo-Mo-Paradise is in SD! Such a great spot for AYCE Japanese Hot Pot. You have to make a reservation through OpenTable. They limit you to 90 minutes and it starts right as you check in. They do keep track of the time! For our broth we chose the Sukiyaki and Shabu Shabu. Sukiyaki is definitely the more flavorful of the two, but my favorite is Shabu Shabu. You get a pasteurized raw egg for dipping sauce. This was completely new to me but it's a must!! I also love to mix the chili oil and goma sauce. You order meats with the server but you can grab the veggies yourself, buffet style. Their meats are great quality. We got everything besides the chicken and they are all incredible. Good variety of veggies available. All of it was pretty fresh. Loved the fish balls! At the end you get ice cream! They have different flavors available everyday. There is also unlimited drink options and their teas, milk teas, and boba are pretty good! No need to go to a boba shop afterwards. I will definitely be back! A little pricey but so worth it. Staff is really friendly. Parking is easy. Clean interior. Highly recommend!

Yelp
This place is great for the price. The meat selection is small but the quality of the meats is very good. The best parts about this place, they have a vegetable bar and make your own Boba. The downside, the sauce bar is very small. Been there 5 times and all 5 times, the customer service was excellent. If you want a minimalistic hotpot experience that is easy on your wallet , I highly recommend this place.

Yelp
I have been eyeing this shabu place since I saw it on Instagram and it did not disappoint. You can make a reservation, but they will gladly take walk ins. The restaurant is clean and very spacious, which I love. We didn't have a reservation when we came in on a Sunday a little after they opened, and we were able to be seated immediately. You get to order 5 different meats at a time. The buffet or self serve bar have fresh vegetables, sauces, noodles, etc. They even offer really really good curry at the buffet. The quality of the meat is one of the best I've had at an ayce shabu! Service was great too as everyone was super attentive and friendly, but it was not busy when we went so not sure how it is during peak hours. Overall an amazing experience. One of my favorite ayce shabu I've been to.

Yelp
Meat was good quality and tender. Veggies were fresh. Taste was good. My mom and dad said the sukiyaki broth was very delicious. I liked the tonkatsu broth and sukiyaki broth equally. We'll definitely be back! Military and Senior discounts.
