"This tiny sushi shop is squeezed between both a Filipino and Latino grocery store. Look for the black awning and be sure to order the caterpillar roll filled with eel, cucumber, avocado, and sweet and spicy sauce." - Tim Ebner

Google
Sushi bites tight, stuck together and almost disassembled with tasteless flavor and a teriyaki chicken that was pitiful. Plus super long wait times and lousy service from the lady taking the orders. Highly disappointed.

Google
This is the only sushi place I order from now! Been going here for over a year now and it has never disappointed. Luckily, their indoor dining has opened again as well. Their takeout is always fresh and the quality of their sushi is perfect. Best of all, the staff are always very friendly and welcoming. I can't recommend this place enough!

Google
This is easily the best sushi i have had in ages. As a vegan i often struggle to find sushi that isn’t just an avocado roll or more than two items on the menu that i can eat. This place is packed with flavor and the service is also respectable and kind. The non vegan sushi was also soooo delicious. The one thing i think everyone should try is the crunchy spicy veggie roll. It was soo good i had to come back the next day to eat again. One of the best things i have ever eaten!!! I’m still thinking about it and about to order it after i leave this review. We started to dig in therefore the picture is somewhat eaten since we couldn’t stop ourselves as soon as we got the food on the table. Truly amazing !!

Google
Delicious sushi! Got the dynamite roll and a couple hand rolls. The food was amazing. Restaurant was clean and had a cozy environment.

Google
Disappointing. Quality control is really important for sushi. I’ve had great sushi from this place before, Which is why this review is still two stars and not one. After pulling the bones out of my teeth which is something you never want to do while eating sushi. Finding ourselves being unable to finish the food. Chewing for minutes like well done steak on tuna of it probably isn’t sushi grade. I wrote this review. Tips for success: Don’t place hot rolls and cold rolls in the same box. Select fish that’s appropriate for raw consumption, And then slice it correctly. And most importantly DE-BONE your fish. The only photo I took after our first disappointing couple of bites attached.

Google
Service is awful. My dad and I went to have dinner there and when the waitress said if we wanted anything to drink we said, "tap water." She said, "we dont have that. We only have bottled water." I said it was ok b/c I had two bottled waters on my purse. I asked if she had a cup with ice and she said, "we dont have ice." I lost it. They were being really stingy at that point. The manager came to me and said that maybe I should order take out instead. What kind of service is that? They have a buisness and arent treating the customers right. Im never coming here again. They are stingy, rude and the manager was worse. She didnt even try to offer a solution. She just told us to order carryout instead. Ive never experienced that in a restaurant before.....ever. DONT EAT HERE.

Google
I hear from a coworker about this place and I have found my favorite spot for sushi near work. I went a couple of friends. We ordered the volcano, dragon and sashimi roll (appetizer size). Omg the volcano was amazingly flavored, the mix with the ingredients and the way they served left me speechless. I tried the dragon which was really good too. This a hidden place, located right behind Dunkin' Donuts, small and cozy, not for big parties. Definitely ordering some other options, soon.

Google
The best most authentic sushi around. You'll have a hard time finding parking but know that it is worth the effort. Always made fresh. Always professional. Always tastes amazing. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Great sushi place. Hard to find the location but very creative sushi. Many vegetarian options.

Yelp
Overall, I think Moby Dick Sushi is a great spot in the downtown Wheaton area to get your sushi fix. Actually, it's now my go-to sushi spot. I've visited this place on a few occasions, and I have not had any issues with my food and service. Moby Dick has a pretty extension menu that includes traditional and "fancy" food items. For the things that I have ordered (typically the general sushi dinners and basic rolls), I thought the prices are in line with other decent sushi spots in the area. The restaurant is a bit small with about 5-7 tables, so it probably will not work out well if you plan on dining there with 5+ people in your party. Also, the restaurant seems to be geared toward pickup and delivery orders. For instance, I do not think the restaurant has a restroom for customers. If you decide the dine-in, be aware that you will have people constantly walking past you to make or pick up their orders at the front counter.

Yelp
This has been our go to sushi place for years. It's a little pricey but DoorDash will deliver to us up in Olney so it's worth it! We usually get miso soup, a mix of rolls and Nigiri. We always enjoy it. We have tried many other sushi places but always come back to this one. Our orders don't normally include soy sauce or chopsticks so make sure you have some at home!

Jessica L.

Yelp
My 8 year old said that it was delicious and we have been eating here since before she was born .Thank you for the good food !

Yippie S.

Yelp
Inedible fish. Terrible quality for sushi. I literally spit it out. Dining-in experience comes second to incoming phone orders.

Victoria K.

Yelp
This place is hidden away in the alley behind dunkin right across from the Wheaton metro. But it's a hidden gem. My friend had ordered delivery from here before but this was the first time I've been in. Well it definitely won't be the last. I got a sushi combo and a specialty roll and a bottled water (they don't have a fountain) for under 40. The quality and portion size of the nigiri and rolls is generous and everything tasted great. I'll definitely be back when I want sushi now that hinode closed this is probably my new go to.

Lydia K.

Yelp
I wish I had discovered this sushi spot earlier!!! The salmon hand rolls and spicy tuna rolls were freaking amazing and so is their salmon roe!!! Honestly all you need is the salmon hand roll!!! It's that great!!!

Sabrina R.

Yelp
If you've never been to Moby Dick Sushi, run as fast as you can to get the most delicious sushi .

Yelp
Amazing sushi! My wife and I first ordered from here for New Years Eve to ring in 2021 as it was the only year we had no friends due to the severity of the pandemic and lack of vaccines. We decided to order from here again on Wednesday night to celebrate my wife's two year work anniversary and me graduating from physical therapy on the same day. We ordered a Vegetable Tempura Udon as well as the following rolls: Dynamite, Futomaki, Tarter, Fantasy, Mobydick, Crispy Spicy Tuna, Sweet Potato, Green, and Philadelphia. The rolls were very wide and filling to the point we had leftovers. I think the sushi chef may have been different and made it Korean style rather than the traditional Japanese we remember before, but the food was still delicious and portions were much larger. The prices are also reasonable, especially for the portions. We look forward to ordering from here again and dining here eventually in person.

Yelp
Wow! Unbeatable deal for a really generous sashimi lunch box. I love sushi, but I don't get it very often. I wanted to make sure I got enough. So I ordered the lunchbox, but I also ordered a spider roll on the side. My only regret is that there was too much food. I paid about 20 bucks for the whole thing. Not a bad deal, but I really could've made do with just the box. It came with soup a whole bunch of different pieces of delicious fresh fish cut in the large chunks, a salad, and a scoop of rice. I was frankly, shocked, and very pleasantly surprised by not only the quality of the fish, but also the portion size. This will be my new go to sushi place in the Wheaton area. I would share photos, but I ate all the food before I can take any pictures. The restaurant itself is small, and nice. However, they are only open for takeout ever since Covid. I asked them about this, and they told me, wisely, that with inflation costs, the way they are it really doesn't make sense for them to hire servers. Their restaurant is so small that it really works well that's just a takeout place. For sure it in no way impacts the quality of their product. I'll be back!

Yelp
Good sushi! I am moving out to MOCO from the Bay Area, and tried this place out today while staying with family in the area. I have to admit that I was skeptical about what I was getting in to when I rolled up to this place, but it checked out. Everything was good, no weird fishy taste, and was well portioned. Minor notes as to why I gave it a 4 star review vs a 5 star - 1. The salad was a bit sad and soggy. I know I didn't come for the salad, but don't let that ruin the experience! 2. The age dashi tofu was packed in to the sauce. That won't work for take out. It makes it all soggy and the batter washes off. It had good flavor, but if they separated it from the sauce for take out, it would remain fresh and crispy as it should be experienced. That being said, I'd come back again.

Jadyn M.

Yelp
We got takeout here and it was pretty good. The amount of fish for the Don bowl was absolutely insane, a great deal. The quality of the fish was good as well. The miso was delicious!

Anne-Olive N.

Yelp
I love getting sushi from here! I've lived so close to here but didn't get to try it until after they reopened. One time I called five minutes after closing, and the kind staff still let me put my order in, which I really appreciated. All of the fish tastes fresh and is obviously good quality + nice portion sizes. I have not tried many of their specialty rolls but the regular rolls have not disappointed me (spicy salmon, avocado, and shrimp tempura). Def my go to spot for sushi!

jakobian b.

Yelp
This is the sushi spot here in the Silver Spring/Wheaton area. The food is great, and the service has always been top-notch as well. Be sure to try the crunchy spicey tuna roll!

Mitch C.

Yelp
Delicious sushi, well cut, fresh, and great variety in the sushi dinner. Much better than the places that only give you salmon tuna and shrimp. This place is a hidden gem and you won't be disappointed!

Karen Y.

Yelp
It's one of the few sushi places in Wheaton so naturally it is one of the better places for this area but this is one of the cases where I would be willing drive out to Rockville instead. The ratio of fish to rice is low. I got the cali roll, eel, and spicy tuna combo with miso soup which was $15 lunch special. The quality is average, and generally speaking if you have a craving and want to stay local, this place will hit 5/5 for that. But in comparison to the rest of the county?, it's average and quite pricy for the quality and ratio. Customer service was solid 5/5 tho.

Sofi N.

Yelp
In terms of quality, this place is literally the next best thing to a Japanese steakhouse/sushi spot. Fresh sushi, always, and very reasonable prices.

Mike D.

Yelp
I can't explain what makes Moby Dick so great except to say that the quality of their fish is outstanding. It is incredibly flavorful, and noticeably better than anyone in the area, except maybe Tono in DC, but even then, it's close. Try their sashimi appetizer to fully appreciate the quality of their fish. Besides the fish, their rolls are well-constructed and never fall apart on you, and the consistency of their rice is perfect. I am not a specialty roll guy, but love their Boston roll. The business is family owned, and it's nice to see the same people in the restaurant time after time. They remain carry-out only. We're lucky to have this gem here in Wheaton.

Mark S.

Yelp
A lil hidden gem. Great sushi and great service. The food is always fresh and come out quickly

AUBREY J.

Yelp
Solid sushi at a great price. If you have a craving and don't want to spend a ton of money, this is your place!

Vincent C.

Yelp
Moby Dick Sushi is hidden away in a tiny section of a brick building. Despite looking somewhat shabby from the outside, the inside is drop dead gorgeous. Moreover, the food is fantastic! Upon entering, I was greeted by a staff member. My call-in order was ready, which I was able to promptly pick up. I felt that the miso soup was extremely special because it did not contain seaweed, allowing you to really taste the miso paste without the adulteration of seaweed. Additionally, the Chirashi that I ordered contained a decent amount of raw fish and sushi rice, all for less than $26.

Michelle L.

Yelp
The sushi is fresh and very tasty. They have some types of sushi that most restaurants do not have. It is nice to try new things.

Rick L.

Yelp
Best Sushi in Silver Spring. Always fresh and pretty fast. Kinda miss eating in though. Thanks for that COVID!!!

Austin M.

Yelp
I came here because I was in the area and this place had good reviews. Ive been to my fair share of high end sushi places in SF, NYC, London, etc. but tonight I knew I should temper my expectations.Normally I get sushi from another local spot (Red Maple) which always leaves me satisfied, but boy was I in for something much different. I got the roll combo deluxe with crunchy spicy tuna, tuna avocado, and salmon avocado rolls. It also had miso soup and salad. All for $20 - seems like a good deal. When I got home (they only do take out and delivery), the food smelled and looked good! That's where the fun ends. I have never been to a sushi place where I couldn't finish the meal...until I came here. The miso was overly salty. The salad was ok, a small portion size which is normal and crisp lettuce, but the dressing was a little too sweet. But really the quality of the sushi had me questioning whether I was at a restaurant or a gas station. Tough fish -- both the tuna and salmon -- as if it were old or frozen. The rice barely stuck together. Best thing I could say for it was that the avocado and tempura part of the crunchy roll were decent. All in all, you live and you learn. Life is too short for bad sushi -- look elsewhere.

M A.

Yelp
Great array of menu options. Delicious!! Big portions. Great value for the prices. Location is close by.

Marc S.

Yelp
By far a "best kept secret" in Montgomery county. Freshest and most creative sushi with none of the "fake ambiance" of other places. Genuinely just the best sushi and most pleasant dining experience. Do not sleep on this place

Terrill Cushnie ..

Yelp
If you want some great tasting sushi without paying high prices, Come here! Yellow tail and tuna rolls are amazing.

Daniel C.

Yelp
We were in the mood for sushi on a Saturday evening, and found this nearby place on Yelp. This is why I love Yelp. Anyway, they have these awesome sushi combos here that come with soup and salad, and we loved it. Place is clean, food very fresh and well prepared. We will definitely be back.

Moncerrat S.

Yelp
I hear from a coworker about this place and I have found my favorite spot for sushi near work. I went a couple of friends. We ordered the volcano, dragon and sashimi roll (appetizer size). Omg the volcano was amazingly flavored, the mix with the ingredients and the way they served left me speechless. I tried the dragon which was really good too. Yelp
Takes both cash and credit card. Place is located behind the dunking donuts. Tucked inside a crowded shopping center. Look for the blue sign outside which has the restaurant name on there. This place serves legitimate sushi. We order the ell roll, Philly roll, salmon roll and spicy tuna roll. The ell roll was quite skinny, but very good. It was a bit crunchy which you couldn't find in other restaurant. It's a good crunchy and hardy roll. Their philly roll had a hint of smoky-ness. The salmon roll was very plain. Definitely could skip their roll if you like other things inside a roll. The star of the rolls was the spicy tuna roll. They sprinkle a bit of spicy mayo around the tuna before they put together the roll. They use real tuna unlike other places which uses canned tuna. Definitely will come back for their ell and spicy tuna roll. One area of concern is the lack of parking. They are doing construction in a parking lot in front of the business. There is plenty of parking in other shopping centers in the area. However, you might have to walk 1-2 blocks to park. Overall, good place to check out. They also have lunch specials.

Nakia L.

Yelp
Go only if you have a phone or know what you want otherwise a man with terrible customer service will greet you with snide remarks and a bad attitude. Definitely not the service I experienced on my first visit.

Nichelle D.

Yelp
I LOVE this place. I can not state how important it is to make sure you eat and experience high-quality sushi. Moby Dick Sushi has the best quality of sushi in the area because they put lots of effort and time into sushi. They are focused, and they have high standards. Looking forward to being a regular customer and enjoying their amazing options.

Margy C.

Yelp
Food: I thought it was okay. I only got the Roll Combination. 6pcs California Roll, 6pcs Tuna Roll, and 6pcs Salmon Roll. It was more than enough for me. Reasonably priced. Service was quick and friendly. Parking: Hard to find. Only a couple of spaces in front of the place. Huge construction going on across the street.

Erica M.

Yelp
The sushi here is amazing! My favorite is the Philly rolls. This is my 3rd time here and it has not disappointed me yet. Ive try a combination of different rolls and all have been good. Its amazing how full you can get off of sushi. The take a lot of love and care into each hand crafted roll. This is not your grocery store, gas station, or all you can eat buffet sushi. The first time i was scared to be adventurous so i got the typical California rolls. But then i tasted my friends and it was amazing. So now i try different ones when i come in. The only draw back is parking...

Katie L.

Yelp
If I could describe what heaven tastes like - this would be it. Hands down the best sushi I've had in my life. I feel like I just hit the jackpot and finally found a great go-to sushi spot in Wheaton. The Crunch spicy tuna roll was orgasmic. If you're on the fence about ordering here you better f*cking send it because this sushi was hand crafted from the sushi gods and I promise you will not regret it. 1000000/10

Andra G.

Yelp
THE BEST SUSHI IN LOWER MONTGOMERY COUNTY. We've tried everything and they are by far the best. Amazing quality, beautiful preparation, stellar service and a great, local, family-owned staple. LOVE MOBY DICK!!!

Pg E.

Yelp
The sushi here is AMAZING and the owner is so kind. I often go here before COVID and would easily order almost everything on the menu with my friends. Crazy Boy Roll Spider Roll Tempura Maryland Philly Sunshine And the usual California roll. Are my favs. Highly recommend supporting this business and trying unique rolls.

Courtney L.

Yelp
I'be visited MDS twice now and have enjoyed each visit. Both have been for the lunch special as I grab a quick bite while I'm working from home. The staff has been so friendly and fast. Each visit lasted no longer than 15 minutes as they are super quick and the food is fresh. This is pretty much my go-to sushi restaurant in the area.

Matthew F.

Yelp
This is my go-to sushi spot on Montgomery County. The food is always fresh and delicious and the customer service couldn't be better. I highly recommend This restaurant.

Zaid N.

Yelp
Pretty delicious sushi and fresh ingredients! Highly recommend the place. Went with different sushi rolls, the edamame and the chicken teriyaki dinner. Everything was above par and delish. Perfect hole in the wall!

Steve B.

Yelp
The sushi is fantastic--quality fresh fish and ingredients, well made. Great classics and excellent, interesting special rolls. Love the Moby Duck Roll. Other food is good, ass well; great tempura and teriyaki dishes and a tasty chirashi. It's a family business and the owners are kind, warm and friendly. Not to be missed for carry out or, someday again, a night out.

Susan M.

Yelp
Ran a friend up to Wheaton to drop her off after Earth Day in Silver Spring and we were hungry. She strongly recommended Moby Dick and it was an excellent payoff. She described it as 'kind of a dive' which in this case means more 'hole in the wall.' It is small, and tucked into a fairly nondescript business district. The name Moby Dick does not exactly inspire confidence, for several reasons. But the experience was great! Nice, cute, clean place. Good service. Excellent sushi. It was a shame we were the only people in there on a Saturday afternoon (so another reason to go, no competition!) The gyoza were delicious, really a cut above the usual. We overordered thinking to take some home to the Sprossling (which I think we did) but we plowed through more than I expected. Really pretty, nicely arranged, good quality!

R K.

Yelp
Hands down the best sushi in MoCo. A total hidden gem of restaurant! The Crunch Spicy Tuna Roll is out of this world. We also enjoy the Spicy Sashimi Salad, Philadelphia Roll and Shrimp Tempura Roll. Lunch specials too. Every time I dine here or order delivery, I am amazed at the freshness and quality for such a reasonable price. Moby Dick Sushi has been a MoCo tradition for decades and I hope they will continue to be for decades to come.

Helen F.

Yelp
Great little sushi spot in Wheaton. They're currently not offering dine-ins, but they are still taking pick-up/takeout orders! They have an amazing deal on their sushi rolls during lunch specials, and the sushi is always so fresh. My favorites to order from here are the salmon rolls and tamago. Overall, I'd highly recommend trying this place out.

Tracy W.

Yelp
amazing sushi. Their salmon skin roll can't be beat. Also, the salad dressing is really awesome if you get a ginger salad. The small hole in the wall on a street that is easy to miss is definitely worth finding.

Maria J.

Yelp
It was a little confusing getting here but once we got the food I can say I was happy. I really enjoy their volcano rolls and their appetizers.

Marlon T.

Yelp
This is an honest little sushi joint in an unassuming, lowly part of town. Their food will do the job and is good but don't expect it to be the best sushi you've ever had. It's difficult to access the area because it's on a one-way road that is hard to find unless you know the area. If you need a quick sushi fix, this is a great place to grab some take-out!

Valerie M.

Yelp
We've been coming here for YEARS! Amazing sushi in a cozy setting. We have our favorite rolls- spicy crunchy tuna roll, spicy salmon hand roll, caterpillar roll- order them every time! Service is friendly and fast, too.

Fr.Alexander R.

Yelp
One of the best sushi planes in Wheaton!!! Excellent food and the ambience reminds me of Tokyo!
