Nice coffee shop! LOVED the atmosphere! The maple latte was something to be desired, and the hot chocolate was very watered down, but the chocolate chip cookie was so freaking good. Service was good, and loved hanging out listening to the jazz music they had playing. I’d definitely visit again, with trying a different beverage.

2025: limited number of options, but good quality coffee. 2024: the number and the variety of bagged coffee has been greatly reduced, compared to 2019 visit. 2019:Brattleboro has two Mocha Joe locations: the cafe and the corporate office. If you enter the sign the west location you will find yourself in a furniture store, the mocha Joe office location is in the back. The lady in the store patiently explained that this happens all the time. She told us how to find the cafe on the East end of the Main street. The cafe sells coffee as well as beans in bulk. The cost is very decent $8 for a bag (probably 12oz). They have both French roast and light roast.

Google
We were hoping for a warm welcome and a great cup of coffee, but found neither. The staff seemed totally disengaged—barely looked up, let alone cracked a smile. The café feels worn-out, like it gave up trying a while ago. Our lattes arrived with sad blobs of foam, no effort, no pride. In a town that prides itself on its progressive spirit and creative community, you'd expect baristas who care about their craft. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case here.

Google
What a great little find. The food. The service the Matcha latte 😋 with hearts ❤️ 💙 in it. Everything was perfect. Staff was very friendly. I would highly recommend this place to anyone and I will definitely be back. Shane and Tyler

Google
We love having Mocha Joe's in our community! Nothing better than picking up a fresh bag of coffee and a couple scones on a rainy morning 😌 Staff is always kind and welcoming and you are almost always guaranteed to run into someone you know!

Google
Amazing service and really well-made coffee! Just hoping the rumors about management firing all of the previous workers in retaliation for their attempt to unionize are untrue... The staff deserve better!

Google
I absolutely love the small-town feel of this subterranean café. Drinks are reasonably priced, treats taste homemade and not from a box, and the staff is pleasant. Good value for a state that has lots of rich hippies.

Google
This is the BEST COFFEE SHOP IN THE US. I’m using my one and only Google review for anything ever. I go here every time im ever up until the north east. I’d put some selfies of me with the coffee if I could.

Yelp
I hate giving bad reviews but....just went to Joe's and got a Chai. My mouth is still burning from the pepper! Not the chai they used to serve. Now the other complaint was the lack of enthusiasm by the baristas. I'm sorry we made you do your job face tattoo guy. Not like the staff of yesteryears.

Yelp
I make sure to stop here at least once every time we are in Brattleboro. This year, the owner of the Inn we stayed at told us that his (excellent) coffee is made with beans from Mocha Joe's that he grinds fresh every morning. I go for an iced drink when it's hot, a hot cappuccino when it's cooler out. This year's choice was an iced mocha latte with oat milk and it was superb. They also have pastries; we shared the raspberry almond bar, very good.

Yelp
On my way up to Maine - I had breakfast in Greenfield, MA - but thought I would stop off in I-91/Brattleboro for some caffeine. It was a cold, rainy October day - and I found Mocha Joe's Cafe using the Yelp app on my iPhone. I finally managed to find a parking spot - Mocha Joe's is in the midst of downtown Brattleboro - so no parking lot. As you enter Mocha Joe's - it's located in the lower level - almost like a basement - so you descend a few steps and enter. I ordered a triple shot latte - and was planning on sitting down and spending some time enjoying my latte - and break out my MacBook Pro to peruse my route from Brattleboro to Portland, ME. BUT - and this has nothing to do with Mocha Joe's - there is a customer sitting at the next table - on his PC - attempting to have a very loud job interview over Zoom - in the middle of the coffee shop. He was so loud he was close to shouting. And I must say, what I had to listen to was rather embarrassing for a job interview. I would not have hired him! So, I packed up and took my latte on the road. Delicious espresso! #MochaJoesCafe

Yelp
Two words: maple latte. Yum! Great little spot, nice baristas. Jazzy music, and that coffee smell to get your brain going.

Yelp
One of the treasures of Brattleboro's food scene their is never a bad time to enjoy a quick warm (or iced) cup of Mocha Joe's Cafe. The team of barista is well adept at making any drink you can imagine, and I've enjoy many Dirty Chai Lattes, and SPICY Mexican Hot Chocolates just to name a few... MAPLE Latte is always perfect here too!

Yelp
Perfect maple latté. Not overly sweet, just right. For my fellow dairy intolerant folk, they offer oat milk (and another diary free option, I forget if it was almond or soy)! They also have a few options of baked goods (that I believe may vary daily/weekly?). I've heard they usually have at least one gluten free option! I got the gluten free peanut brownie. Yum! Nice, cozy, quiet laid back vibe. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Unisex bathroom for customers. Staff is very pleasant and friendly.

Yelp
Service sucks. Totally ignored by person behind the counter. We left without being served.

Yelp
Yum yum yum. Great service, attentive and kind baristas. Good coffee! MUST get anything maple when in Vermont!

Marie-Claire R.

Yelp
I love Mocha Joe's but the homeless crowd in the morning makes me feel uneasy. Things have changed.

Yelp
Walking around downtown area of Brattleboro, I found this place because of the coffee aroma coming out from the coffee shop. Unfortunately I dio have the time to sit and enjoy my coffee there but I took my coffee to go. I love to try different flavors with coffee and I noticed that they have Maple Latte. Maple is so delicious but with coffee? Let me tell you, that maple latte was delicious I really enjoyed it. The sweet and fruity flavors were a good combination. Coffee shop was nice and clean.

Yelp
What a cute little coffee shop in downtown Brattleboro, VT. And they're dog friendly, which is our favorite. Perfect maple lattes with oat milk. Prices were good too.

Yelp
Takes a little while but fresh. Can add ons. Solid coffee shop. Which is why there's a line:) has vegan options

David K.

Yelp
Music in the cafes at night and revolution in the air! Berets! Mocha Joe's feels and smells like the real coffee shop deal, without the cigarette smoke! What brews! What a brew crew! Pyre and Emma are usually the two when I pop in. Good times! Cool cats!

Yelp
Mocha Joe's chocolate joy latte is so good. I love that you can add an additional flavor - I went with caramel and it worked nicely with the mocha. I would go here every day if I lived in the area. Strong yet smooth coffee with a nice amount of kick. This visit, we also picked up some beans to bring home. Nice selection. I was also impressed with their quirky decor at the counter, especially a He-Man type punching a bottle cap. Cute. There was only one woman working on a Saturday morning which was pretty surprising. We had about a 15 minute wait with just one person in front of us. It also started to get crowded and it's a small space. There was a sign saying limited space inside, please stay outside to socially distance and several customers ignored that and the woman working had to ask them to go back outside. We'll be back for sure as their coffee is so darn good but probably would time it a bit differently to hit in during a less busy hour.

Yelp
Great local spot on Brattleboro's Fantastic coffee and stellar pastries. They have a lot of different coffee options, so you're bound to find something you enjoy. And the raspberry scones? Holy crap. I live on the other sound of the country and I dream of coming back just so I can scarf down more of those obscenely righteous scones. And it's named after one of Larry David's arch enemies. How can you go wrong?
google avatar

Michael R.

Yelp
Coffee seemed bitter and burnt, the scones and pastries were dry as well. Dunkins does it better.

Dawn H.

Yelp
Cute little coffee shop in downtown Brattleboro. Very friendly staff. We tried a double mocha and double maple latte. Both were very good, though the mocha was a little bitter. Bummed the grinder was down so I couldn't get some coffee for Christmas gifts.

Yelp
This place is a really neat find in the downtown area, that upon entering, almost felt like I had stepped back in time. Mocha Joe's is a tiny little spot, that when you walk down the steps to, you are greeted with friendly service and delicious drinks. They do need to do some light cleaning though, as there were some dusty corners that needed some TLC.

Yelp
I characterize myself as The World's Fussiest Espresso Drinker. I went into Mocha Joe's yesterday, on my way from my best friend's near Albany NY to my home outside Boston. I've had a lot of trouble recently finding decent espresso other than from my home machine. As I entered Mocha Joe's, I didn't realize I was about to hit the jackpot! When I took my first sip of the half espresso, half hot milk (I forget what they called it, but that's how I asked for it), it was like a symphony going off in my mouth. And the symphony played grandly for the whole half hour or so that I took to drink it. The patrons were very nice to my little border collie, and the staff were fine with her being in their coffee house as long as she didn't go behind the bar, which she did once, early on. In fact, the staff all seemed like very nice people, as did the patrons. The coffee house itself looked like the nicest place to sit for an extended period of any of the coffee houses I've been inside in the last few years--about 5-6 of them, mostly in Cambridge. I vouch for everything Thomas L. says in his review. If I lived in Brattleboro, I'd be in here every day.

Yelp
Someone told me they serve the best coffee in town - and it was no exaggeration. I would also add to it that they have the best blueberry scones. The coffeeshop is in the basement of a building, with plenty of seating, and it provides a great location for reading and quietly enjoying your coffee.

Yelp
Local, grungy, well-loved, chill. All these adjectives come to mind when i think about Mocha Joe's. There were many regulars hanging out on this Sunday early afternoon. Folks reading, working, or catching up with friends. As soon as someone left, another person took the table. Lots of people who were ordering seemed to know the cashier or barista. My husband got a solid flat white. They did tell us there was a bit of a back-up, so we appreciated the warning. It did take about as long as they had stated. There isn't a great spot to wait for your drink, but generally the crowd is so relaxed, it doesn't really bother anyone too much to keep moving out of another patron's way.

Thomas L.

Yelp
Coffee shop as a coffee shop should be: unpretentious, genial staff, well managed, robust coffees. The place was packed, which is a good sign.
google avatar

Shannon M.

Yelp
Outstanding maple latte! I am not someone who likes their coffee too sweet, and this was a perfect balance. This place came well reviewed by some local folks. The 3 stars comes from the service. The barista was equites rude to an older woman in front of us. She ordered drip coffee with a shot of espresso. When they called it out, they used coffee lingo, calling it a red eye. When it waited on the counter a bit, she asked if it was hers, to which she was told "yeah, that's what red eye means." Treat elders with respect, not condemnation.
google avatar

Joseph L.

Yelp
Friendly staff, really decent coffee. Brattleboro staple for years to come. Can't wait for them to do indoor seating again, but the patio is a nice place to take in main street .

Marie K.

Yelp
Lovely start to our Sunday! My girlfriend and I both got lattes and they were great! We love that they are dog-friendly too!
google avatar

Larry R.

Yelp
If you did a side-by-side of the latte I had with one from Dunkin' Donuts, they would be indistinguishable. In both cases, the milk was scorched, it wasn't foamed properly at all, and so I'm like, why didn't I just go to Dunkin? I know that sounds harsh, but it's just irritating to see people obsess over the latte Art on top but not really pay attention to what's going on in the cup. Sorry
google avatar

Yelp
The safety precautions is extremely adequate. The location allows 3 customers in at a time. The wait was not too long for drinks. I ordered the hot chocolate and the matcha drink. The matcha drink was unflavorful and the hot chocolate tasted like hot milk. It was a good price for a cup of coffee and hot chocolate but not worth the price. The customer service however, was impeccable!
google avatar

Colin A.

Yelp
Customer service was average bordering on unfriendly and the coffee was mediocre, there were also no pastries or anything just coffee. Seems like a popular spot so maybe this was just a bad timing.

Bj N.

Yelp
We've been coming to the area for decades and stopping at Mocha Joe's since the early-mid 80's or so. I always have to stop, excellent coffee, sweet people, great vibe, decent prices. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Seriously good cafe and really good coffee. The real deal. Classic atmosphere. Everything is top notch. Miss it and can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Cute place, full of locals. Coffee was good and hot. Scones were amazing. They said they had vegan food for my friend but they didn't really have any or know whether some things were vegan. This is definitely a place that is frequented by locals and was very busy.
google avatar

Lisa B.

Yelp
This is a really cool place! One awesome thing is they let you bring your dog in. The people who work here are really friendly and give very fast service. The coffee is good, they have many milk options. Over all this place has a great relaxed kind of hipster vibe that's great for people young and old to hang out.

Rennie D.

Yelp
The coffee is damn fine. I order both ground beans to go as well as have tried their cappuccino and other coffee drinks. The coffee is never bitter

Yelp
Love coming here whenever I make it to Brattleboro (the old shirt proves it). The coffee is excellent and atmosphere is a funky cozy, just the way I like it ! They also have a choice of non dairy creamer.
google avatar

Yelp
wicked good coffee. hipster vibe. free wifi. can bring your computer and work here. amazing cookies

Conni S.

Yelp
Read about Mocha Joe's on Yelp and decided to visit during my day trip to Brattleboro (which I also recommend). The coffee was WONDERFUL!!! I would highly recommend the coffee. The shop is small, non handicap accessible, but the coffee made up for those shortcomings. The coffee was hot and tasted SO good! I am just sorry I did not get the coffee art that was proudly displayed on their website, but it was ok. I'd rather have great coffee over fancy art on my foam any day.
google avatar

Matthew D.

Yelp
Excellent local coffee and if you love chai tea - they brew their own spicy unsweetened tea and you can get it hot or iced. Highly recommended.
google avatar

Gary V.

Yelp
Beautifully crafted bar drinks and the best cider around. I see that some people have complained about the speed and atmosphere. These people have been tuned to enjoy the auto-produced crap that Starbucks shoots out fast and mediocre. Yes, I drink it cause in most places there is no alternative. The people at Mocha Joe's have to actually do more than press a button. If you want true quality it takes a little time. Additionally the fact that it has a unique and cool vibe should be an attraction. Do you really prefer the antiseptic mass-produced interiors of Starbucks that are the same everywhere? Really? Wow, I guess you do. Sunday afternoons it is crowded with skiers going home and that sucks but I also have to deal with the morons heading to the Hampton's on Friday mornings at Starbucks off the LIE in the summer and that is worse!

Yelp
*THE* coffee shop in Brattleboro. Down a short flight of stairs off of Main Street (below street level), it provides the perfect, cozy nook for proper coffee drinking. All of their drinks are made to order, and any of them can be iced. I have a hard dime deviating from is their iced chai -- perfect for a hot, summer day. Their baked goods are also excellent and would recommend grabbing either a biscotti or a slice of their coffee cake to make a complete event of it. The staff have always been friendly and helpful, quick to offer suggestions or give me a moment to take in the large and beautifully designed chalk board menu. One of my favorite things about Mocha Joes is the funky, local artwork that rotates through. It's almost like a funky small gallery walk. Go for the coffee, stay for the environment, and walk away with having taken in the art.

Yelp
Excellent coffee shop. I had an Americano and the taste was fantastic. No wonder they sell their unique of ground coffee and bean coffee at all grocery stores. Great service as well. Highly recommended!

Yelp
I found myself in Brattleboro a few days ago and in need of tea before Twilight Tea Lounge was open and so I came to check out Mocha Joe's. The reviews I'd read focused on coffee so I wasn't sure what the tea selection would be like, but I was pleasantly surprised to find a medium-sized and well-chosen selection of teas, various hot beverages including a delicious custom Vermont-themed mate, and baked goods that have vegan and gluten-free options. When I asked what was in the gluten-free ginger cookies, the woman at the counter pulled out a list of ingredients and let me look over it, which was absolutely wonderful. The staff were friendly and helpful and had no problems making me tea in my travel mug. I will definitely return on future visits. The only issue is that entrance is accessible only to people who can do stairs, as there are several steps down. It would not be possible to get a wheelchair into this space short of having people carry it.

Yelp
It's a delicious den of caffeine and 90s grunge rock classics. I always hit mocha joes when I'm in town! Thank you
google avatar

Sam T.

Yelp
I'm so glad I found this incredibly awkward little coffee spot. Awkward because of the stairs situation that you have to walk down just to discover them, but once you arrive you'll see what I mean. They take incredible care of their ingredients, the coffee beans are fresh and each order is prepared flawlessly. I never thought maple syrup and coffee would go so well together; try the famous Vermont Maple Latte

Katherine R.

Yelp
I love going to coffee shops! First coffee shop in Brattleboro, VT! A must! You'll see one sign near a furniture store, but it's not in there. It's down the street a little bit; on the opposite side. It has a sign above the door and a few steps down through the door and you're there in a very wonderful spot! I had a maple latte, creamy, sweet, yet nice a strong flavor!

Yelp
Took an overnight trip to Brattleboro and stopped by for breakfast before heading back to Boston. It was a Saturday morning and the cafe was pretty empty, so there was almost no wait. I had a maple latte for the first time and it was great: not too sweet, just the right amount of foam (but no foam art, so jealous of the photos I'm seeing here), yummy enough to make me forget about the below-freezing cold outside. And my cider donut was so good, I practically inhaled it. It looked pretty small on the counter but each bite was so delicious that one was all I needed. I wish I had one now. Bonuses: The staff were nice without being fussy or pretentious, the location's right downtown and near a ton of shops I couldn't wait to explore, and the logo is awesome. Definitely going back next time I'm in town.
google avatar

Yelp
This place has me at the IDEAL coffee shop for my addiction. It really makes it hard to keep up with the 12 steps, but the coffee is fantastic. I threw some Ideas at the barista, and she granted me exactly what I wanted. Along with coffee, tea, and other goodies, they even have presses, cups, etc for sale. This shop will certainly meet, perhaps exceed your expectations.
google avatar

David M.

Yelp
I dropped in hear mostly to use my internet and to kill some time while waiting for my car to be able to start again (long story). I ended up getting a chai latte and watching a game of chess being played next to me. I love the location (below street level), cozy feeling without being too small. The chai was a solid loose leaf variety, and all in all satisfying. The coffee smelled amazing. The best part, though, was the staff. They were incredibly friendly and efficient. I might have to add this to part of my Brattleboro ritual of falafel and used books.
google avatar

John L.

Yelp
What a great coffee place on the way back home from the beautiful Green mountains of Vermont. The location of Mocha Joe's is somewhat odd. It seems to be in a small basement area of some larger building. But once you go downstairs and take in the menu of drinks, it is quite impressive. Since we were heading home from a great day of skiing, I got a hot chocolate and my girlfriend got a tea fog which was tea with steamed milk. My hot chocolate came with a cool looking leaf design. We also ordered a chocolate chip cookie which was delicious as well. The only gripe I have is that it doesn't open early enough so we can get a cup of coffee on the way TO the mountain...
google avatar

Yelp
Great coffee and great people! Vegan and gluten-free baked goods available. WiFi available. I love the soy maple latte.
