The Best Private Dining Rooms in the East Bay - Eater SF

"With its exposed brick walls and tasty bistro fare, Mockingbird makes for a warm and welcoming private party destination. Events take place upstairs on the mezzanine overlooking the rest of the restaurant, and it seats up to 30 people." - Janelle Bitker

Nice spot for California cuisine downtown Oakland. Everything was cooked and prepared well. I missed a bit of flavor in my trout but still a very solid plate. Great the Brussels Sprouts. Definitely worth stopping by.

This place was in a perfect location near the 12th and Broadway BART station. Living in SF, it makes it easy to come here in the future, hopefully with friends lol. I also had 2 orders of the fries...so good!!! Servers were kind and friendly and will patiently answer your questions if any regarding the menu.

Food was okay. I came here for restaurant week and got the fried Brussels sprouts, Risotto Verde and the Bread pudding. The risotto was a touch bland and needed more Parmesan (which was good quality cheese). The bread pudding was close to being great but the caramel was over salted and slightly burnt unfortunately. For the portion and price, I’ve had tastier. The service from my waitress was mid-range as well.

The dessert was absolutely delicious so save some room! Not too heavy at all! Unique dishes, good service with an attentive and helpful staff. Was an easy place to have a conversation with friends without feeling rushed.

Large location with lots of seating and a good ambiance. Almost no wait times without a reservation. Food is decent although could be improved. Was not super impressed by the duck liver mousse and bread. Didn't have the depth of flavor or the creaminess I was expecting. I asked for the burger medium but it came out well done. It was burned or dry but there was no pink left in the burger. Friendly staff and fast service.

Mockingbird is an awesome/ hipster restaurant with very contemporary interior design. Lots of open space between tables and comfortable seating. Their menu has several unique dishes with top ingredients. The food is a bit pricy, but is deliciously worth it. Staff is nice and flexible, allowing our dog (very quiet and well behaved) to stay with us under the table. If I come to Oakland again, I will surely come by again. Great for meeting friends and business partners.

Had dinner last night while visiting a friend in Oakland, and was really excited as I'd heard good things about Mockingbird. We were seated upstairs when we arrived and the first thing we noticed were that we were surrounded by flies; we kept having to swat them away from our faces and off our dishes. I mentioned this to the server and she said that is normal as they're attracted to the wine (not the kind of response I was expecting to hear as I've been to plenty of wine serving restaurants that aren't infested with flies). There must have been about 15 flies flying around us all night and sitting on the walls beside us, very very gross when trying to eat. Aside from this the food was very good; we had the brussel sprouts, the risotto and the steak which were all delicious. The steak was very tasty but arrived cold which was a disappointment, and I mentioned this to the server. I didn't have time to have the dish recooked as we were in a rush to get to other evening plans, and so we were comped a glass of wine. Overall, I'm sure if they can get rid of the flies it would be a place that might be worth coming back to. Sad that this will be my lasting memory of my one dining experience in Oakland.

The ambiance is good, nice music. As starter, I had sparkling Cabernet franc rosé pairing with the duck liver mousse, pickled vegetables, and olives which are delicious. For entrée, I got the pan roasted trout and a side of sautéed mixed summer beans. The trout and sauce were really good although the dish is a bit small. So make sure to get a starter or side. About the summer beans not that much impressive. Despite I was excited about the dessert list, the bread pudding or chocolate cake (when I checked out the menu online), I didn’t have a chance to get them because I didn’t know the kitchen was closed by the time I finished the main course. I felt disappointed that they didn’t let me know in advance. But our serve made up talking with them and giving us a chance to order it. However I decided to get the check. So a proactive service timing would make the experience even better. What concern the price, is the average of Bay Area. By the way, hours info aren’t sync on google and yelp.
