"Everything needs an acronym these days, including dessert. This new spot in Soho sells MOD, or Multilayered Original Desserts, which look basically like taller cookies with ganache or jelly cores. Behind this modified cookie is a French pastry chef who regularly posts wild dessert videos." - Will Hartman, Willa Moore

Have you ever had a cookie so good, you wanted to cry? Me neither until I tried the hazelnut cookie at MOD. I didn’t think a cookie could taste so good and I’ve had a lot of cookies! This little cute spot in the neighborhood makes me so happy to live in this area. I can’t wait to come back and try the rest of the flavors.

I passed by this French dessert store a couple of times and couldn’t resist going in to try some dessert especially family is around. I just want them to try too. The dessert were okay; they were very heavy and filling, which might explain why I’ve put on 8 pounds recently. This is typical takeout shop with no seatings or service. The lady’s attitude was just okay. I might not go back for a second try, but the place looks posh and decorated with style. So, if you’re nearby and have a sweet tooth or mood, try a couple of the chocolate or matcha cookies if you’re a fan. If

We came here for the first time today, exited for a sweet treat and decided to get the Winter S’mores Cup. The normal cookies are like $7 compared to this one being $9.50. The cookie looked delicious but once I took a bite out of the cookie, using the spoon, the whole cookie fell down to the bottom of the cup (as shown in the last photo). The cup it was served in was very misleading as it was just a cookie sitting atop a cup. The cup made me believe the cookie was something reminiscent of a mug cake.

The smores cookie cake cup was NINE DOLLARS?! That is extortion for what it was. I would have been a happy customer if it was marked at $4. The bottom part of the cup was a gooey chocolatey cookie and the top was like the consistency of a cake. We also tried the 4 mini cookie sample. This was absolute trash. Every cookie was bland and not tasty at all. No seating space except for 2 standing tables. No public bathroom either. SKIP this spot to save yourself $20.

To begin with I already knew things would be great the very moment I stepped in and asked my favorite question, "which one do you like to eat the most". This question lets me know how much a person knows about the product they are selling, and to get deeper insight into what the actual details of a product I am planning to get. As my pictures show, the people working there are very convincing and truly enjoy the MOD. There are so many details I could explain about each individual one, but I would run into the word limit. So I will talk about my favorite one. The matcha MOD looks simple and plain, but the flavors are much deeper than you would expect. I highly suggest everyone eats it slightly warmed and right as you purchase it. It has a light feel like it would fall apart when you pick it up, but it is moderately dense and compact so it holds together well. The matcha flavor is not from a cheap grassy powder. Instead it is earthy and bittersweet. The ganache in the center is creamy and slightly sweeter than the pastry. So my best suggestion is to give each one a try every time you come back 😉.

MOD, located in Soho, is one of the trendiest dessert spots among NYC sweet tooth. It stands for Multilayered Original Dessert, because it’s like a mix of cookie, brownie and cake. They serve various cookie flavors with creative fillings and toppings. We tried the signature S’mores Sensation, which was prepared at the counter freshly and it was extremely satisfying with delicate texture.

The pastry shop is nestled in the heart of SoHo - an ideal neighborhood for new gastronomic experiences and an abundance of restaurant concepts. Here, on one of the cozy streets - Prince St, a small and charming shop of the famous French pastry chef Grégory Doyen has opened. He has brought something completely new to New York's culinary scene - these multi-layered original desserts, occupying an intermediate position between brownies, cookies, and pancakes. Eight different flavors and one flavor of the month - that's what you can try. My verdict: delicious, beautiful, and unusual! Keep it up, New York! Many culinary trends originate right here and spread worldwide!

Newly opened dessert store, lovely interior design and super friendly staffs. The dessert called MOD. A very special creation, taste soft like brownie but not so sweet like sugar bomb, which I love it. Tried so many flavors, all extremely delicious. If I must rank them, I would say Rose Pistachio > Red Velvet > PB J > Matcha

Yelp
I've walked by this place multiple times on my way to Raku and I recall seeing social media posts about it, so I finally went to try it when I was in Soho. I'm definitely impressed by the simple refinement of their execution. It looks like a cutesy little place but it actually encapsulates so much effort. "Hype" doesn't feel like the right word to describe this. It's too elegant to be plastered all over social media with exaggerated facial reactions and getting messy with it. I wouldn't say I like everything I ate, but I'd want to buy from here again. If you order single cookies ($7), they give a separate box per cookie. If you order a box of four, it's slightly cheaper ($26). Certain flavors cost extra. I know a lot of people dislike their price, but considering their flavor and ingredients and execution and presentation and packaging, I think it needs to cost this much as well. Don't compare it with a $3 cookie, because it's not. Their single cookie packaging is a sturdy box that comes in muted pinks, beiges, grays and such. I think the quad box is only one color, off white. It's definitely extra, but I think it represents an elevated experience from just a $3 cookie. It would be great for gift giving or a special occasion. Their cookies are palm sized, thick, soft (not crumbly and not necessarily chewy), with a pool of shiny ganache-like substance. They're all sized in perfect circles with perfectly circular pool of ganache. When you think about how uneven cookies or cupcake frosting can get (not in a demeaning way, just an observation of what is common), it's quite hard to reach this neatness. I like the texture. It doesn't feel oily (but the box absorbs some oil) or cakey or sticky in my mouth/teeth. It's still soft even after being out in room temperature for four days (they only recommend three and putting it in the freezer if need to keep longer). I've noticed the cookie part underneath the ganache looks wet/denser than the edges. It's not obvious when you eat it but you can see it if you cut through to that part. I can't really taste the denseness, so this is tolerable. I ordered a quad to try more: original, midnight, matcha, hojicha Original I like the texture of the walnuts and the abundance of coarse sea salt, but the ganache was a bit too sweet. Midnight This is my family's favorite. The black sesame is rich without being oily or bitter. The dark chocolate pairs well with the earthiness and color tone is match. Matcha This was a disappointment. The ganache was too sweet with the white chocolate base and the matcha tasted weak. Hojicha This is ok if you aren't expecting hojicha. I tasted no tea at all. Hazelnut flavor was more apparent. The piece of candy melt on top is orange flavor and the only one out of the ones I ordered with a piece on top. I forgot what the ganache looked like underneath, but the candy piece helps a lot with keeping the cookie look neat. Overall this place isn't perfect but I admire it.

Yelp
A few weeks ago, I finally succumbed to my curiosity and tried MOD. MOD (Multilayered Original Desserts) are essentially cookies with central fillings/toppings in unique flavors. I couldn't decide on a flavor, so I went the boring route and chose the original (chocolate chip). I said I was planning to eat it in the shop (why wait?!), so by default, they heated it in the microwave before giving it to me. The heat melted the chocolate center, but I personally, would have preferred to at least try it without the melted chocolate first. As it was, I didn't think the cookie tasted better or particularly different than standard chocolate chip cookies, and definitely not worth the $8 price tag. That said, the cookies are beautiful, and (hopefully) the other, more specialized, flavors are better. Aldi, there is also an option to get a taster box with four smaller cookies in different flavors for only $1 more. I didn't go this route because they weren't the flavors I would have chosen, but I should have in hindsight.   There are so many innovative and delicious bakeries popping up all over the city, that I wouldn't consider this a must try.

Yelp
Finally got the chance to try out this viral cookie spot! It's a small place with no seating a but a few tables to stand at. Interior design is very cute and nice. Workers are all very nice and helpful. Menu is easy to read and they have displays of all their cookies All cookies are 1000% better warm. If you are gonna eat it there get it warmed. If not, warm them up n a the microwave at home for a few seconds (that's what they do) The s'mores cookie comes in a cup. They warm it up add roast the marshmallow. There's nothing underneath the cookie, just an empty cup. Think it's interesting it's in a cup because the cookie is bigger than the cup and when you go to take a bite with the spoon the whole cookie just breaks into the cup. Wish there was ice cream under it or served on a plate. The cookie was not bad, pretty good. My favorite part was the marshmallow. It's does get pretty sweet tho. The hojicha cookie was okay. Got it today and warmed it up at home. Tried it cold and it was not it. Warmed is so much better. Hojicha was a light flavor and it was a little on the dry side in my opinion. They also sell mini sized cookies, it is like the size of a quarter. But the perfect little bite! Would I come back? I wish I could say yes but for the price I wouldn't. For almost $10 a cookie after tax is a bit much for me. If it was $7 and under maybe I would consider it. I personally think the cost is what turns people away.

Yelp
When you are hosting a dinner party, dessert can be tricky... many options feel childish (cupcakes, cookies), when you need an elegant end to you meal, MOD is perfect. I'd describe as a brownie/cake. Of course they have a chocolate chip MOD (which was sold out), but they also had a number of non chocolate options. I tried the salted caramel and the coconut with passionfruit. Decadent! I'll be back when they get their coffee machines to try the s'mores mod over coffee. If it is priced around $10, it would be the perfect shopping in soho treat

Vanessa A.

Yelp
It's a cute shop with two small round tables that you can stand at to enjoy your cookie(s). I didn't love the cookies enough to think they were worth $9. It's a better deal to get 4 cookies for $26. We ordered the hojicha and s'mores, which is the Mod of the Month. They probably spend a lot of money on their packaging since each cookie is individually boxed. We heated the s'mores up at home instead of having it there. I wasn't crazy about the chocolate chip cookie. The hojicha was good. A subtler flavor than matcha.

Yelp
I happened to be in Soho a few days ago and I finally got the chance to stop by here. The store was bright and clean and the young woman helping me was very friendly. I wanted to try the carrot cake cookie but the one with mini eggs on top was calling my name. Everything looked delicious and I knew I wanted to come back again without having even tasted my cookie. I got home later and for dessert I had a little bit of it-omg, the praline and dark chocolate was amazing. The crunch from the fuilletine was so delicious. The cookie had a bit of chew to it from the brown sugar and just decorated so beautifully. I would definitely come back to try other flavors.

Yelp
We came to try the S' mores sensation and it was not bad. The aesthetic was great but the dessert itself was okay. Good to try at least once. The staff were very friendly.

Yelp
Have been wanting to come by this new dessert shop by famous French pastry chef Grégory Doyen for awhile now, and finally made it here today! The shop is beautifully decorated, service is great and the cookie itself is so so delicious! The moment I took a bite into it, I instantly regretted not getting more. It's like a cookie brownie with a creamy filling in the center with just the right amount of matcha flavor. It's just perfect. Pro-tip: heat it up in the microwave for 6-8 seconds right before you eat it :) Looking forward to going back and trying other flavors!

Yelp
This is a 2.5 for me. I was drawn here by social media and I liked the MODs but can't justify the price and don't support the absence of seating. S'mores MOD was delicious but served lopsided so it didn't look like the photos online (sad). The texture was like a super thick, soft baked cookie. They briefly microwaved the MOD beforehand so we could enjoy it warm. Note it's served in a cup but merely balanced on the top - there's just air underneath, so the plating is a little deceptive. The caramel MOD was also good, with a caramel center and some crunchy bits on top. However, I don't feel a strong urge to get them again, especially considering the price. They're close enough to cookies for me that I wouldn't consider them a unique enough dessert deserving over $7.50 (for the caramel) or $9.50 (for the s'mores). As others have mentioned, the MODs are really small and disappear in a few bites. In a city where creative desserts abound, I'm very hard-pressed to call this a standout. I think they've done a great job with branding/marketing, so I give them that. Let's talk about the setting - it's cute/aesthetic, but there's nowhere to sit and there are only two extremely(!) narrow tables you can hover around. It's kind of awkward to hang out like that. Thankfully on a Thursday evening, there were no other customers so we had the place pretty much to ourselves. We actually glimpsed Gregory Doyen carrying a fresh batch of untorched s'mores MODs as well. My overall take is, come here if you're intrigued by the novelty of the MOD and willing to pay up for a small bite. But ultimately, you're not missing out if you don't go.

Yelp
i got the hazelnut cookie and the chocolate chip cookie with the sea salt on top. omg so so good! soft and chewy and melty when you warm them in the microwave. very different type of cookie. the hazelnut cookie had bits of hazelnut with milk chocolate in the middle. the chocolate chip cookie had chips throughout and chocolate in the middle with sea salt. dark and milk. just amazing!

Jenny L.

Yelp
$9.50 FOR A SMALL COOKIE. It tastes like a regular cookie with nothing special about it. Don't see anybody coming back for another purchase especially when there are so many delicious cookie spots for half the price.

Calvin H.

Yelp
The staff member was very friendly greeting us and introducing the flavors. The desserts themselves were good but nothing super impressive. I liked the caramel popcorn, pistachio rose, black sesame, and hojicha in that order.

Samah I.

Yelp
MOD dessert has been in the neighborhood for about a month only and has definitely garnered a lot of attention for their torched marshmallow chocolate chip cookie. I mean it certainly got my attention. The concept is definitely intriguing (essentially a molten lava cookie that's as soft as cake and melts in the center? Sign me up.) It's clear there's a lot of passion behind the brand and thought that went into the flavors but alas I was not blown away which, for the cost of 9.50 (not including tax which made it a little over ten dollars) made it disappointing. It didn't help that the cookie was tiny. It was literally like five bites. If the cookie were larger I wouldn't have been as meh about the entire experience as I had been. So more about the cookie, the chocolate center was good absolutely. The cookie itself was very soft to the point of melting in your mouth. Marshmallow which I assume was fluff (I hope so lol because I can't have gelatin) was pillowy and melty. I mean yes it was good but it wasn't enough to warrant the price for something so SMALL, even if it's made from the best ingredients which I've been told it is. Regardless, I'm sure they'll do just fine and wish the team all the success.

Nicole ..

Yelp
I stumbled into this place waiting for reservations at a nearby restaurant. I unexpectedly finished the whole cookie (lychee raspberry s'mores). I told the chef that MOD should stand for "made of dreams". The flavors were very unique in a cookie that was well-balanced, perfectly moist, without being overly sweet. This held true for the dark chocolate sesame cookie I inhaled when I got home too. Yes, the cookies are pricey but reasonable considering the location, presentation and quality of the cookies - it's a nice treat I look forward to next time I'm in the area.

Rosanna N.

Yelp
This place looks super cute and the flavors were unique so I decided to stop in. The store has both cookies and drinks. I got a mini mod box and the valentines s'more. I was really impressed by the valentines s'more. The flavors were really good in the cookie and the marshmallow paired so well on top. However, at $10 a cookie, it is a bit pricy and I could not justify getting it again. The service was quick. The mini mod box was almost $9 and it had 4 really small cookies. I think some of the cookies tasted dry but the filling on the inside was good.

Tiffany L.

Yelp
cute dessert shop and staff was super friendly! we got the smores and it was tasty :))

Bianca S.

Yelp
You have to try this place at least once. I saw it on instagram and happened to walk by it and said why not treat myself and my family to some goodies! The dessert was tasty but for me not something I would go out of my way for. It was perfect to happen upon and try out. I personally won't be back but do not knock this place until you try it for yourself! The desserts were very pretty and the presentation in the box and the toasting of the marshmallow were cute! The stores pathetic was nice as well. It doesn't feel like your typical bakery or dessert shop it adds to the presentation of the cookies in the box. The lovely lady behind the counter was very nice as well and took the time to describe all the flavors available that evening and with a smile.

Deepti N.

Yelp
The staff is very sweet tried to explain all the flavours! A must try, delicious treat in SOHO. Pricey...but to be expected. Lovely store and cute concept:)

Steffi T.

Yelp
Great desserts. The ambience caught our eyes. Decided to stop by after dinner at Raoul's. Love the minimalist look of the store. They were super friendly and helpful with choices of flavors. Impressed by the flavor and the texture. We got the original, pecan joy, pistachio rose and hazelnut praline. Love all of them! Definitely enjoyed every single bite. Great packaging as well. Highly recommend

Rich F.

Yelp
Cute little place and absolutely wonderful customer service. The packaging for the cookies is really cute as well. The chocolate chip MOD tasted like a grocery store cookie with some salted ganache on top. We both took a small bite and threw the rest away. Not worth the price or the calories. The hazelnut praline was much better in both taste and texture. Go back again? Nope. Great marketing, social media presence and hype, but with the incredible options available in NYC at or below this price point, I can't see going back or recommending. To be fair, I'm not a fan of soft cookies, so you may enjoy more than I did.

Chris P.

Yelp
Stumbled across this dessert place and it caught my attention as I walked by the window display. The owner was super nice and described each dessert. I purchased 2 of the desserts and warmed them up when I got home. I really enjoyed it and would definitely go back. The store was decorated beautifully and clean as well.

ray f.

Yelp
Nice idea, but one and done. Had the matcha. Loved the rich matcha sauce/cream filling. But the pastry was a bit dry and crumbly, unsure if it wants to be a cookie, a cake, or a brownie.

Helen R.

Yelp
Finally a store with a fresh and innovative take on dessert! I happened to walk by the store and decided to pick up a few of their "MODs" for a birthday party. They were a huge hit - they're beautifully decorated and every flavor was delicious. Overall, they're on the pricier side, but for a special event, they're perfect.

Valerie B.

Yelp
Staff was lovely!! Place is very welcoming! The MOD dessert was good not great!! Definitely wouldn't go back because of price!! Was not worth 9.50 plus tax!! I wasn't thrilled that after paying that much I had to go home to heat it up!!

J D.

Yelp
Ok but extremely overpriced at $7.50 per cookie. Cookies are also baked off-site so they aren't warm. The flavors and concept is good but they need to reduce the price to at most $4. My favorite cookies in the city are $4.98 and baked on-site I think also with warmers so the cookies are always warm and they are bigger. Won't go back unless the price goes down. Even if the cookies were warm I would pay at most $4.98. They need to make them at least two times better somehow to charge $7.50 - not sure what they can do.
