Joël Robuchon’s Death Changes Nothing at His Montreal Atelier | Eater Montreal

"I saw that as part of the Antonopoulos Group’s 12th annual Happening Gourmand (January 10 to February 3), Modavie is participating with a table d’hôte menu offered for under $30, and that most of the participating restaurants are also serving a $17 brunch deal." - Tim Forster

We visited this restaurant as tourists in Montreal. The location is wonderful, especially given how many competitors there are around. Our table was prepared quickly, even though we arrived half an hour earlier than our reservation. The staff was very attentive and friendly. We ordered three dishes: escargots, foie gras, and French onion soup. The escargots were delicious, but we were surprised when they were topped with cheese for an additional charge that was neither mentioned in the menu nor communicated to us. The onion soup was overly salty — perhaps a matter of taste. The foie gras, however, was excellent, with a perfect balance of sweet pear, toast, and liver. Would I return? Probably not — first, because Montreal has many other places worth exploring, and second, the discrepancy between the menu prices and the final bill was disappointing. Do I recommend it? Yes — trying the foie gras here is definitely worth it🫶🏻

Had a wonderful lunch at Modavie today. They had a lunch special for 3 courses; appetizer, main, and desert. The food was spectacular. I had a house salad with a tasty Dijon vinnegrette, a half-chicken served over mashed potatoes with a red-wine demi, and a creme brule to finish it off. All of the food came out with perfect timing, so you don't have to rush through your food before something else gets cold. Lorenzo is a wonderful host, and had me a seat at the bar in record time. The bartender Kevin was attentive and makes killer cocktails. I definitely enjoyed my time here in Montreal, and Modavie was a great end to my business trip.

Google
The food was fantastic! The location and atmosphere made for a memorable experience. Constant was very kind and helpful, which added to the great service. Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for authentic French cuisine. The pesto gnocchi was a bit on the heavier side, but the steak was excellent, tender and perfectly cooked. The French onion soup was tasty, though slightly heavy on the cheese, and the cheese platter could use a bit more variety.

Google
Quaint, cozy bistro located in old Montreal, with live jazz (vocals are fantastic) performing many of the standards. Our first visit to Montreal and off to a great start. Started with a Caesar salad and poutine, then rolled into a burger and mushroom risotto. All the dishes were very tasty. Staff were excellent and so friendly. Will plan to pop in again.

Google
My husband and I had this place starred based on reviews for our weekend trip and are so happy we made it in for lunch! 10/10 best French onion soup we’ve ever had 9.5/10 steak frites (he wished the steak was bigger!) 10/10 mussels and frites 9/10 espresso martini Service 10/10 loved our bartender ! We will be day dreaming about this lunch forever

Google
Amazing experience. We didn't make reservation but able to grab bar seats. Staff are all inventive and friendly, the young gentleman worked at bar is amazing, took care of us very well. The food is great! From the appetizers to the main, to the dessert, all amazing. Vibe is great, Tuesday night but so full and everyone was enjoying. Overall very nice experience, will definitely come back if visit in Montreal again

Google
Nice restaurant with live jazz/musician after 7pm. The ambiance is cozy and clubby, and decor fits the area. We really enjoyed our dinner here and the music. My Cesar salad was excellent, nice flavors and fresh. The turnip soup of the day was also delicious, very hearty and flavorful. The bone marrow dish was less impressive- the bone marrow wasn't really seasoned as we expected, it was just there and so just tasted like beef fat. Even with the topping it was not too good. The poutine with veal was tasty and good, very rich. The chicken entree with potatoes was good, but nothing special. The crème brûlée was excellent; it was creamy with a thick hard carmelized topping, just excellent. And the size was perfect.

Google
We had a lovely dinner at this charming French restaurant. We ordered the house salad, onion soup, and rack of lamb. Everything was delicious and beautifully presented. The lamb was a bit more cooked than I would have preferred, but it was still flavorful. Service was friendly and attentive. We were seated in the room next to the live music, which was perfect — we could enjoy the ambiance while still having an easy conversation. Overall, a wonderful dining experience that I’d happily recommend.

Yelp
Lovely ambience. Friendly staff. Great service. The food was superb. Our table had gnocchi, salads, and the onion soup. Couldn't have been happier for our first meal in Old Montreal. Ask for Lorenzo. He will take excellent care of you!

Yelp
Modavie is an absolute 10/10 date spot if you're simply visiting Montreal or live around the area. The ambiance and the live music was a 10/10. But the highlight of the meal, was our server's demeanor and the profiterole we ordered at the end. Special mention to the mushroom risotto and the sweetbread appetizer. Yum. The lamb chops were cooked great and almost perfect, if it weren't for the fat cap that was proportionately overwhelming compared to the amount of meat on it. Some people are into that. Us, not so much. All in all, a great finale meal of the trip, with a very memorable dessert and server!

Yelp
French onion soup: the most delicate flavor profile i have ever had. Cheese was crispy on the top. However overall a bit too salty for my taste Lamb Poutine: wonderful flavors. The cheese used was impressive. Shredded Lamb meat was tender and tasty. But again slightly salty for my taste Rack of Lamb: tasty. Well cooked at medium rare. Sauce was tasty and not overwhelming. Nicoise salade: a lot of fresh ingredients. But olive, anchovies all together made the salad the saltiest salad I've ever had. Not sure if saltiness is representative in Montreal cuisine. In future I'd probably ask for sauces or anything that could potentially be salty, to be given on the side.

Yelp
My favorite restaurant that I visited while in Montreal! We were promptly seated upon arrival and settled in for a wonderful meal. Our server was knowledgeable and helped guide us through what to order while being very realistic and honest on portion sizes and how many apps our table needed (always appreciate not being over sold!) Each app and dinner was better than the last. My personal favorite was the poutine with lamb (so tender and flavorful) and the duck confit. The French bread basket for the table was INCREDIBLE - our table could have made meals off that alone! The only "lacking" part was the dessert. The creme brûlée was fine, but was not living up to the expectations of all dishes leading into dessert. Bonus that they have live music - a great touch and not too loud where you can't talk with your table! Highly recommend making a stop at Modavie next time in Old Montreal.

Yelp
My go-to items here, both amazing! Coming from California we don't g et to have foie gras. So I had to get my fix. My teenage son tried it for the first time, polished it! Escargot was piping hot and garlicky, just the way it should be.
google avatar

Whitney J.

Yelp
Wow, I was impressed! The food was excellent and I'm so glad we got to try the charcuterie board. My sister enjoyed the french onion soup and I enjoyed the lamb burger. It's a great atmosphere and we were so lucky to experience the live band that evening. Unfortunately there was a neighborhood power outage, but that didn't rain on our experience. Definitely adding this to our list next time we are in Montreal.

Yelp
We tried to avoid the tourist spots but wanted escargot and crème brûlée so ended up here. Outdoor was the only seating which was very hot but we made it work. Service was good and food was ok. Great spot to people watch if outside.

Yelp
Great restaurant, great service and wonderful environment with live music at dinner on the weekends. The wine list was great and food even better. We shared a house salad to start and while that may seem dull to some, the dressing was exquisite. I had the mushroom risotto and wow, so delicious and flavorful! I would have liked a larger portion of mushrooms but I guess they made up for that in cheese. The dish was creamy and flavorful. I'd love to go back to this restaurant and try more dishes.

Yelp
Love everything about this place! How it's in old Montreal, how there's live music every night at 7pm, how the ambience is cozy and intimate, and how the food and service are both amazing! I asked for medium rare on my filet and got it perfect, just the way I wanted. Don't be fooled by the humble vegetable accompaniments, they were done fabulously and needless to say I cleaned the entire plate. Even the glass of wine I ordered was fantastic. Creme brulee and chocolate lava cake for dessert - both divine and leave you wanting for more. If I'm ever back in town this will be the first place I'll return to.

Yelp
A great option for a French dinner after a stroll around the beautiful streets of Old Montreal. We arrived a little after 5pm and there was no wait for a table. Service was very pleasant but a bit inattentive since water refills were sparse throughout our meal. We were seated at a corner table and got a wonderful view of the cobblestone streets outside. The food: Loved: - Complimentary bread and butter- Served fresh right out of the oven! - Lamb chops- Cooked a perfect medium rare. Very juicy and flavorful. - Mussels and fries Ok: - Scallop grenobloise- The texture of the scallops and the flavor of the sauce was good but it was $25 for 3 very tiny pieces of scallop. You might as well order another main at this price point. - Garlic snails- I think I've only had escargot once before and honestly forgot what they taste like but the ones here were very small and pretty much disintegrated once I started chewing on them so ended up not really tasting like anything. There's an option to add cheese and usually adding cheese to anything makes it taste better but not in this case. The cheese was very strong and completely overpowered the flavor of the snails. If I were to come back I'll probably sub the scallops and snails for duck confit and salmon filet since we saw other tables order these and they looked delicious. But overall, quite an enjoyable dinner in a picturesque part of town. Note: I saw a review that said that there's a requirement for each member in your party to order a main dish and this was confirmed when I contacted them prior to our visit. However, when we were seated I asked them again and our server said that there is no such requirement. It's perfectly fine to share mains.

Yelp
Live music, intimate dining and rustic decor in the heart of old port, montreal!!!what a memorable experience to spend a spring evening. The service is exceptionally good, our server Caroline was friendly, spoke English well and very accommodating. Her recommendations were apt. Go with their recommendations. She was very thorough with us and careful of little details. It was good to exchange pleasantries with her. Food: There is a decent selection of wine, alcohol, cocktails and beer. I went with a mocktail which a loved! Quite refreshing and thirst quenching. We chose the 3 course menu option and I went with beet salad, and mushroom risotto for my mains. Both were good but the risotto was one of the best I have ever had. Enriched with mushrooms and cheese , topped with toasted pine-nuts, served with a side basket of warm bread & butter , it was certainly the most delicious one. Portions were generous. The dessert was delicious and big. But 3 of us shared 2 of those chocolate layers cakes. The ambiance is very European and you can spend your evening enjoying music and chat with loved ones.

Yelp
Our first meal in Montreal was a big win! Got a reservation online last minute. Great wine menu, we got the Savion blanc recommended by our waiter. Lots of lamb options, great for my lamb loving husband. Poutine was amazing. Was the perfect start to our trip. Highly recommend. There was live jazz on in the background. Lamb made us dance in our seats. Loved this meal!

Yelp
This was an excellent lunch! Everything was delicious! The service was impeccable, our waiter was so helpful and friendly. Renault gave us lots of recommendations for the rest of our trip. He was FABULOUS! The vibe was outstanding, absolutely beautiful. The cocktails were inventive and delicious. 10/10 highly recommend.

Yelp
Fantastic experience. My favorite place of the trip. The live music was stellar and the singer had a very deep voice, sort of a Janis Joplin vibe. The song choices were also excellent. Our server was so friendly and helpful. The wine selection was top notch and I got to enjoy one of my favorite right bank wines. The poutine was a very good rendition of its namesake and good for sharing. Their onion soup was warming and umami without too much salt. The rack of lamb was stellar-- one of the best I've had in a while. They accommodated our group of seven easily and were able to split checks. Definitely would recommend coming here!
google avatar

Yelp
10/10 perfect meal! The best lamb I've had in my life (highly recommend the lamb chops) and the poutine was so good with the sauce evenly getting to the bottom of the fries! Escargot wasn't mind blowing but the lamb was so good I loved this place and am still thinking about the food here. Sat at the bar and service was amazing and they also had live music!

Yelp
Got a weekend dinner reservation for our last meal in Montreal and so glad we chose Modavie. We arrived a few minutes early and were led to our table upstairs. The waitress for us was super friendly and the service overall was great. Our waitress recommended lamb so we got lamb chops and the seafood linguine and they were both so good. Great flavors for both dishes which we enjoyed with our wine selections. It's a very cute spot with live music which we thought would make the spot very loud but surprisingly it ended up being a good volume even though we sat right next to the stage. Great spot and definitely recommended!

Yelp
I was visiting Montréal for work from the US. I had never had a really great French dining experience so I looked for something that would make a good first impression! I ended up going here two nights in a row because I loved the food, drinks, and the live jazz performances! And all of the staff are wonderful. I cannot wait to go back to Montréal and visit Modavie, and hopefully come with a friend so someone can also share my love for it!

Yelp
Very tasty and excellent authentic French food. Snails, French onion soup, asparagus soup, veal chops, lamb burger, creme brulee. Really nice and friendly service. The restaurant was big, not too loud, can hold large groups or dates.

Yelp
We visited Montreal for my birthday around late November and Modavie was recommended to us. If you are looking for French and an ambiance around the old port then this restaurant is worth it. We were seated quickly and the hostess showed us a coat rack for jackets etc there was also a 2-hour minimum since it was a Friday night but trust me that's all you'll need. If you want a more bar and lively ambiance then stay on the first floor there are singers with upbeat music on the left side of the restaurant while you enter while the right side is more intimidating. If you prefer an even more intimate experience then ask to be seated upstairs where the singer and musicians play more jazz type of music. One thing to note the upstairs chairs and seats are small! But we were comfortable. Our order consisted of the daily portage which consisted of leeks and potatoes it was so tasty! From the appetizer section, we ordered some calamari which was our favorite. For dinner, we ordered the duck confit and the mushroom risotto along with two cocktails the Kiss from a Rose which is lavender infused, and a Wake Me Up which had Johnny Walker liquor. We asked for a dessert to celebrate my birthday and were happily surprised to find out that it was on the house! The server brought the Chocolate mousse pyramid along with the candle. Really tasty dessert. Overall service was very attentive they are bilingual so no need to worry if you don't speak French. We enjoyed Modavie's food, service, and ambiance.

Yelp
We tried Modavie on the first night of our trip to Montreal and were very disappointed. The restaurant is cozy, and the live jazz is nice, but our food ranged from ok to actively terrible. We started with the escargot, with the cheese add on, which were the best thing. Next, I had the mushroom risotto and added their braised lamb. The risotto came out lukewarm and quickly cooled into a solid mass. The braised lamb was intensely salty with very little other flavor - inedible. I ended up eating some of the cold risotto but asked for the lamb to be taken off the bill. My husband had the moules-frites, which I thought would be excellent because the mussels come from Canada, but they were gritty. It was a disappointing start to our trip but we had better food going forward.

Yelp
We came here on our first night in Old Port. We saw it briefly on tiktok and decided to give it a try. It was so classy from the start. The service was so exceptional and we felt very looked after throughout our meal. We had delicious wine that we were able to try before we took a glass. The calamari was otherworldly and the sauce was incredible. I had the Catch of the Day which was trout- it was so fresh and tasty! My friend had the pesto gnocchi which she loved!!! There was live jazz music and everything was so beautiful. Amazing stop!
google avatar

Jennifer T.

Yelp
The food here was tasty and there weren't any major complaints. If I were to come again, I would pass on the escargot and sweetbread appetizers since they didn't really wow us. Lamb was cooked well and tasty. The chef special pasta had a lot going on with it as it contained duck all different ways. We made a reservation for a table of 7 and glad we did since the place was packed for dinner on Saturday. Unfortunately we were sat in the room with the band that was way too loud for conversation. The band and music were both really good though!

Yelp
Old Montreal, cobblestones, art and excellent food. The Mondavie has a comfy restaurant with music and friendly service. Menu is broad with onion soup, salads, croque monsier and croque mondavie (lamb) that were excellent. Great place to let the ambiance wash over you. On one of the main shopping streets. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Emma T.

Yelp
Overall, i somewhat enjoyed Modavie. The duck was amazing, with potatoes and spinach and a glaze. We also got poutine for the table and bread which was warm (but did not seem fresh). Service was good but we were strictly limited to 2 hours which they reminded us of several times. For dessert, I got the Profiterole, which was really disappointing. It was a giant one and tasted stale and too crunchy. The rest of my party enjoyed their meals but nothing to write home about. They got the salmon and lamb pasta.
google avatar

Rose L.

Yelp
Ate at the bar and so yummy. The onion soup and escargot with cheese. Who knew you could do that? Plus the bread warm with butter!!
google avatar

April R.

Yelp
Rack of lamb was really delicious. We ordered our medium and it was cooked just right. The meat was so tender and the sauce complemented the meat flavor so well. Their warm bread was also really good. We enjoyed the calamari too. The lamb pasta has good flavor but the pasta was a little too chewy and heavy for my preference. Service was good. We came on a busy Saturday night and didn't have reservations but we were welcomed warmly and seated shortly after arriving. The ambiance is fun and relaxed, and there was live music.
google avatar

Jennifer S.

Yelp
Located in the Olde area of Montreal there are tons of places to eat in the area. I chose to try out Modavie because I saw escargot on the menu. I was not disappointed!! Cooked to perfection and the garlic savory flavor hit the spot. My salmon was just as good! The ambiance on a Sunday evening was great, even at the height of tourist season. A duo singer and guitar player were playing songs of the 1970s and 80s. Our service was probably the best at Modavie than we had received anywhere else during our stay.
google avatar

Brenda B.

Yelp
The food was amazing, our servers were super friendly and helpful. We sat in the jazz section and it was lovely to have the music with us. Would recommend to make reservations.

Great service, scrumptious food, and amazing ambiance. We love this place and will definitely go back!

Yelp
We came last year when we made a stop in Montreal for lunch before heading back home from Mont Tremblent. It was so good and memorable that we decided to come again this year when we were in Montreal. This time though, we weren't seated by the live music, which really added to our experience last year. The food and vibe was still really good though. I ordered the maple ham eggs Benedict. The ham was thin and tasty. The eggs were so good and paired well with the English muffin. I also ordered the French onion soup which had a layer of thick, rich, delicious cheese. The soup was rich and flavorful and the onions were soft and absorbed a lot of the flavor. The complimentary bread was so good too! Came out piping hot and perfectly soft inside.

Yelp
Was a little difficult to get to because of the construction on Saint-Paul st. But we made sure we gave ourselves enough time (though the outdoor farmers market made it difficult not to stop by!) Make sure to make a reservation the day before because this place is hella busy at dinner. We called a day ahead to make our reservation, only to find that the person booked me for the next month! The usher called over her manager who helped us to get a table for 6 by moving some reservations around (glad we came early). We were ever grateful to them for this. We each ordered our own meals to share, I got the lamb chops and my friend got the steak and fries. My other friend got truffle parm fries with his steak frites, and it had a good amount of truffle! The place we got seated at was quite dark which surprised me because the yelp photos all look pretty well lit, so maybe they came earlier in the day. Its a vibey atmosphere, reminds me of a bar that isnt grungy. Our server was very accommodating to us. Overall good experience and would come back, would want to be seated next to the live music upstairs!

Yelp
SO and I were in Old Montreal on Saint Jean Baptiste Day and wanted to have dinner while there. Classic French offerings can be had at Modavie along with jazzy/bluesy/scatty live music, which started at 7pm. SO and I started off with the garlic snails and the onion soup...both were tasty and cheesy. The bread we were given at the beginning was used to sop up the richness from both. For mains, SO had the mushroom risotto, which she thoroughly enjoyed.  I had the basque chicken, which was tender and needed only the fork to break it apart. We topped off our dinner with a cafe modavie (made with baileys, amaretto and frangelico) and the profiterole, which was delightful! Bottom line, out of all the restaurants that we went to during our stay, this establishment packed the biggest punch in terms of breadth.  Quality, service, ambience and value are all offered there!

Yelp
I probably had a bit of an unusual meal here compared to other patrons, but really enjoyed my experience and wanted to share in case others can gain from it. I came solo as a traveler from the US and had wanted to get some distinctly Montreal food before my trip home, and a French restaurant in Old Montreal with its version of poutine seemed like just that. The restaurant is quite big with two stories of seating, and even at peak dinnertime on a weekday parties were seated without much waiting. I chose to sit at the bar since I was dining alone and got lucky with a view of the live jazz band that was playing. Try to get a seat in the room to the left to get a view! I feel like bar patrons are easily forgotten by wait staff but I was served quickly and readily got water refills. The staff all seem very comfortable with English as I'm sure a lot of travelers come here. I was started off with some complimentary warm bread and butter, which were like baguettes in dinner roll form and absolutely delicious. I ordered the poutine with the extra topping of braised lamb since I saw this spot is known for lamb dishes. The base poutine was already very good, I could tell the fries and cheese curds were fresh and it was (perhaps unsurprisingly) far better than the fast-food poutine I had a couple days earlier. The cheese and gravy did drift towards the bottom so give it a good stir. The topping of tender lamb was a special treat for a lamb lover like me. It was very filling as all poutines are but I just about finished it all. The great poutine together with the beautiful restaurant and live music made for a memorable travel experience, and I would love to return on another visit for a full meal with a group.

Yelp
Modavie is seems to be a very popular location for tourists. It is was also critical that we had a reservation. Our server, Buddy, was really attentive, and helped recommend a wine to go with the duck my boyfriend ordered. Overall, he wasn't overly impressed with the duck. We really enjoyed the cheese plate and bread. There were four cheeses and some nice accompaniments. I got the lamb cavatelli, and I enjoyed it. It was a nice ratio of lamb to pasta. I think the pasta was really fresh as well. I also got a strawberry sour mocktail, one of a handful of mocktails on the menu, and I thought it was more fun than good.

Yelp
We found Modavie while on a mission for escargot, and left with a new friend. When we arrived, we met Lorenzo, who we attempted to greet with our very limited French, and he immediately took to joking with us in both languages, including correcting me that it's pronounced 'escarGOTES" and not "escargot," . He advised our waitress to not let us have any unless we order it properly. We had the scallops and the escarGOTES, and both were delicious and definitely loved up to the online hype. We'll definitely be back next time we visit Montreal, if only to check in on Lorenzo.

Yelp
Went for a birthday dinner because I've heard really good things about the vibes and interior of this place. It's a really great date night spot, and they have a live jazz band! The jazz band was a bit of a disappointment because they only came on at 7:30 and left after ~45 minutes? So the first and latter half of our meal unfortunately did not have live music. Star of the meal was definitely the duck confit and the french onion soup. The bone marrow was personally too oily/fatty for me, and the lamb chops weren't seasoned super well.
google avatar

Corie Y.

Yelp
Escargot. Get the cheesy, buttery escargot. And be like me, do not leave a drop or cheese or butter left on the plate. One of the best bites of food I've had. Incredible. They are known for their lamb so I ordered the Rack of Lamb. Incredible, rare, tender, fatty. The bones were a great treat after eating the meat. The sauce reduction was incredible. Highly recommend. Can't miss this spot.

Yelp
Very cute, cozy restaurant with live music and outstanding service. They have a kids menu too. The location in the old port is great for a post dinner walk. Our server was so attentive and went above and beyond for my husband's birthday dinner. Only 4 stars, because food was just ok. The best thing we tasted was the caperberry that was part of the scallops appetizer. I was really taken aback by the portion size for the price though ($25 CD for 3 scallops). The steak frites were missing a salad, though the sauce was good. Crème brûlée was the better dessert of the 2 we tried. The profiterole was a huge portion but was not worth finishing. Overall, the experience was nice and we would probably give it another try if we're in town again.

Yelp
Very cool dinner spot! Food is excellent, location and vibe are ideal, and the live music was incredible. We ordered the steak and fries and duck confit, and both were just exquisite- perfectly portioned and flavorful. For dessert we had crème brûlée and the chocolate mouse pyramid and WOW they were so tasty and the perfect way to cap off dinner. We went on a Friday night and there was live music at 7 and the band was incredible! The restaurant has a great sound system so the music travels nicely throughout the restaurant. There was a 2 hour limit for our table and I highly recommend making a reservation because the place was packed all night. Highly recommend!!

Yelp
The food was fantastic!! There was live music (loud for us, but people seemed to love it). Our waiter was great. And drinks were great too! Nice place. Much bigger inside than it looks from the outside! We had just four fantastic appetizers for dinner and they were sooooo good. We had the foi gras, well grilled, unctuous lobes on brioche with pears, the perfectly grilled octopus, garlicky, tender escargot and AMAZING BONE MARROW. And we needed the perfect fence fries with it .... And a lovely bottle of Sancerre . Great meal. Highly recommend

Mark L.

Yelp
..appreciated the entire experience beginning with the staff/serveur's professionalism and welcoming approach. Subtle offerings such as asking our preference to converse in French or English established the evening's conversational rapport. Although it was a busy Thursday evening, he monitored his customers throughout. The steak frites and rack of lamb were stellar. Completed the evening with exceptional lava cake and apple pie. Blues duo was awesome playing some Eric Clapton and Nat King Cole classics *drummer was the lead singer. Wonderful evening! Salude Mondavie for the outstanding service.

Yelp
I have been coming to Modavie every single time I visit Montreal for years! This place is truly great. The service is amazing and the food is so so good (The filet is perfectly cooked and sauced and their in house pastas are incredible). What really makes this place for me though is the live jazz music. Every time I have been here the music has been good and it really makes the experience memorable! I will ALWAYS be recommending this to anyone who is visiting Montreal and wants a lovely night out

Yelp
Beautifully designed French restaurant in the historic old town of Montreal. Live music and friendly service provided added enjoyment to the ambiance. Food was delicious. Spaghetti was done to perfection. Sauce on the steak was to die for. Crème Brûlée was a great finish to a lovely romantic meal.

Yelp
A terrific, classic French restaurant in Old Montreal. The service is terrific and the specialty is lamb so the lamb burger was predictably fantastic as was the steak frites. It's always a romantic choice when you are in the area with great drinks and outstanding food.

Yelp
I heard this is where the locals go to hear jazz music n have great food. We were lucky to get a reservation! Bread is served warm, the onion soup is amazing w 1608 cheese. Very unique. The salmon tartar is very good, the Niçoise salad was over dressed. The filet lignin was excellent. We were too full to order desert. Great place.

Yelp
Not much I can say other than the poutine was good. We only ordered that and two cocktails: peach margarita and watermelon sugar. Poutine was flavorful! Service was good. They had live music so that made the ambiance great.

Yelp
Classic homemade meal feeling. The staff is always friendly and welcoming. They have a sense of what the patron would like and ready to serve. They've proud of what they offer.

Yelp
This was our second time dining here mainly due to the beautiful ambiance and service at this restaurant. The food is fine quality and the staff is exceptional. Our waiter Renault was very engaged and attentive to us the entire time. If you are looking for quality food and great service then you must come here!

Yelp
We went to Modavie for lunch on a Thursday and were seated immediately. The restaurant is beautifully decorated, the service was prompt, and our server was very helpful. Additionally, the location is fantastic--they're located in the heart of Old Montreal! We were able to order from their à la carte lunch menu instead of choosing the table d'hôte lunch option, which was great. I had the mussels and fries, and it was delicious! The dish came with a generous portion of mussels and a heaping serving of crispy, well-seasoned fries. The sauce was incredibly flavorful! I had a gin martini, which was just okay. My husband had the blueberry mojito, which tasted pretty good.
