Oprah-Approved Model Bakery Is Opening a New East Bay Location in Walnut Creek | Eater SF

"A favorite Napa spot is finally putting down roots in the East Bay: I learned owner Sarah Mitchell Hansen will open the much-awaited Walnut Creek branch in the second week of October after a project nearly three years in the making. VonSaal Design Build is working on a new 5,000-square-foot space at 1315 North Main Street, and the larger, more convenient location will allow the bakery to expand its wholesale offerings for local grocery stores such as Berkeley Bowl. Model reached cult status when Oprah featured its English muffins on her annual “Favorite Things” list at least four times, and the menu will include English muffins (of course), breakfast sandwiches, eggs Benedict, a possible English muffin burger, and a lunch lineup with salads, soup, and fried chicken sandwiches; the Walnut Creek spot also has a wine and beer license and will serve house wines by Jesse Fox of Sequoia Grove Winery and mimosas." - Dianne de Guzman

Amy’s Kitchen Is Shutting Down Its San Jose Factory, Eliminating About 300 Bay Area Jobs | Eater SF

"Opening its largest location at 1315 North Main Street in Walnut Creek at the end of 2022, Model Bakery’s expansion is welcome news for fans of its famed English muffins—Oprah Winfrey has placed those English muffins on her "Favorite Things" list a record four times." - Paolo Bicchieri

Came here for brunch with my cousins and was told that the English muffin is one Oprah’s favorite things. The English muffin was pretty good. It’s very fluffy to eat. I had the mushroom sandwich which was good.

This place was absolutely worth the hype! The veggie breakfast sandwich was so delicious. You can tell the English muffin is super fresh and the hash brown, tomato and avocado were amazing in it. I also had a cappuccino and it was really good too, not bitter at all.

I’ve visited Model Bakery several times for breakfast. Their breakfast burritos, both the tri-tip, and bacon are delicious. It’s a great spot to enjoy breakfast, fresh pastries, and a good cup of coffee. Check it out.

I’ll start by saying I thought I had fresh (English) muffins before visiting Model Bakery but apparently not as fresh as this. If you order a half dozen or more muffins to go and you eat them offsite, I highly recommend toasting, baking, pan frying, or air frying them for a few minutes. It leaves a crunchy and yet soft, chewy texture. If there was a term for texture like there is a term for flavor, umami, the muffin toasted onsite had umami texture. Gluten fiends are welcome there. Atmosphere felt pretty generic, though I’ve heard the atmosphere is different in the one in Napa versus the one here in Walnut Creek.

I came here last month to meet my friend in the morning around 10:30. The food was excellent and so was the coffee, but I was disappointed to see how small the seating area. Seating is definitely limited. There are high top booths on the back wall, however the cushions are awful and push your body forward when seated. I loved the food and the vibe, but the seating alone makes me not want to return. I think this is a great place to get food and coffee to go versus dining in. That said, I got the breakfast croissant and it was a 10/10.

Was really intimidated at first because the line opening weekend was bananas. It was more relaxed going on a week day. The line appears long because the ordering counter is close to the entrance so that's why people spill out. They have an electronic ordering kiosk so I think that will cut down on wait times going forward. I picked up the breakfast sandwich which is made with their famous English muffin. Really lovely. Enjoyed the Canadian bacon and not packed too large to eat. I also picked up a six pack of muffins for home, cookies and a ham and cheese croissant. The interior is really nicely decorated and you can probably stay and hang for a bit with friends or family. On the main drag so parking can be tough during the day. All the staff was friendly and helpful. This will be worked into my regular local rotation.

10/10. Place was bomb.com. Breakfast Cubano and Breakfast Chipotle sandos were 🔥. Coffee was proper too, always a biggie because coffee can vary so drastically from restaurant to restaurant.

We know about this bakery in Napa, and every time we went there was a long line. But this one in Walnut Creek is equally good, without the long line.
