Two Very Different Restaurants of 2018 Are Closing - Eater Twin Cities

"Moderna Kouzina was the creatively spelled modern cuisine restaurant at 50th and France that took over the former Mozza Mia location. The dining room and menu were built as no-expense-spared elegance by it’s chef/interior designer, including gold leaf built into the walls. Menu prices that reflected the opulence. At the time of opening, owner Ashii Vrohidis told the Star Tribune that the name translated to “modern cuisine” from at least “six different languages” with varying spellings. According to the restaurant’s website Vrohidis is battling an undisclosed illness that prevents her from being able to operate the business. She writes, “My rare medical conditions have advanced to a state where I am no longer able to run MK.” A previous public Facebook post on February 15 also mentioned person struggles. It’s unclear how long the restaurant has been closed." - Joy Summers

Very tasty food and a great experience. This is a brand new modern, spacious restaurant with loads of personal design touches appealing to the sophisticated Minneapolis crowd. I dined with my girlfriend because we were looking for something different in Minneapolis. The cuisine is Greek/Mediterranean but laid out as a fine dining experience! The cocktails are NOT Greek, no ouzo thank god! Instead we tried interesting combinations of classics like Manhattan with modern twists like figs. The guy behind the bar is rather quick, has good knowledge and he is not afraid to use it. We had a salad, scallops, octopus and lamb. The scallops were served in a lemon sauce deep and very rich. It was served with fresh cheese tortellini which we scoffed down very happily. There is a lot of sauce! So make sure to order bread to scoop it up. The octopus is a delicate dish carefully crafted and presented with “secret” sauces reminiscent of holidays flavours. One of the best octopuses I’ve tasted outside the Mediterranean. In fact better than most expensive octopus dishes I’ve tried in Spain. The lamb is out of this world. It tasted great even on its own due to a dry rub or marinade. Delicious! We were very happy with the overall experience. Definitely coming back for more!

My wife and I came here for restaurant week and had the crispy egg and the octopus for the appetizer. Both were very intricately plated and delicious. For my main course she had the handmade pasta; meatball, braised vegetables, red sauce. I had the petite mignon; roasted vegetables, cognac sauce. The beef is Wagyu beef and was prepared perfectly. It actually might have been the best steak I've had in years! We will definitely be back and highly recommend it

We decided to celebrate my husband’s birthday at Moderna Kouzina on October/4/2018 about 2 months after their grand opening. We thought what would be better than trying a new place in downtown Edina. This restaurant has a good ambiance even thought it was too empty at 7:00 pm. First of all, food portions are ridiculously small. I am a foodie, a world traveler, a former food instructor and also not a big eater. I have been in different parts of France many times and very familiar with this cuisine, but With all these standards being said , I never remember to pay $30 for an entree which was two pieces of cheese ravioli and two very small scallops and I am not kidding ,exactly two pieces of each. I wish I had taken a picture. As far as the taste , it was ok , nothing spectacular. So in my opinion this is called ripping people off not serving food. Our server was a nice guy but neither cooperative nor well trained. I asked him if he can bring the pasta with meatballs for my 88 year old mom who doesn’t eat meat and this was one of the dishes in the menu with the star which meant to be served vegetarian as well. The server said right away: that is impossible since it’s going to be tasteless! So we changed our selection to just a salad ! Later when we asked him to bring us some type of red pepper flakes ( chilli or cayenne) on the side ,he said that they don’t have any in the kitchen, not knowing what he was saying he came back with some chilly pepper a few minutes later! The last thing we asked him to do , was to cut the burger in half since my husband & I always share our meals . With no hesitation our server said NO again. This time his excuse was “it would ruin the presentation”. Here it comes the small hamburger later with nothing unique about the look , just too plain. So if the server could respect our wishes a bit more and not being negative about whatever we asked for, it would have definitely made our dining experience more pleasant. Long story short , this place is not worth your money and time . You can find way better restaurants in Twin Cities and I am certain they can’t survive a year like that.

Went here for restaurant week which is notorious for small helpings. We were basically fed full plates of each course and each was delicious. Can't wait to come back to try more options, though the petite steak was so great I will have a hard time trying anything else.

I made a reservation here for Restaurant Week, February 2018. I showed up to the restaurant to a sign posted on the door saying that the owner/executive chef had become unexpectedly ill. The sign indicated that the restaurant was closed and all reservations had been cancelled. No ill will to the owner- I hope they recover fully and quickly- I was just severely disappointed that no one found it necessary to call the people who had reservations to let them know that their reservations were cancelled. Really, really poor first impression.

Our meal was terrific and all three guests enjoyed the beef, lamb and halibut entrees. The wait staff and bar service was excellent and we're looking forward to returning.

We had dinner here and ordered ahead because of many small children. The entrees did not arrive for almost two hours, while the staff aggressively tried to sell us alcohol throughout. Total foul. The food is fine, nothing particularly impressive.
