‘Modernist Cuisine’ Author Opening Photo Gallery in La Jolla | Eater San Diego

"A 2,200-square-foot gallery space coming to downtown La Jolla is scheduled to open in early November; at Modernist Cuisine Gallery, Myhrvold will showcase and sell limited-edition framed prints of food photography from his series of books, including The Photography of Modernist Cuisine. The 90 food images that will be available in La Jolla include a recently released party cocktail collection and a new collection of coffee-related images timed to celebrate International Coffee Day. The gallery will be dedicated to Myhrvold’s distinctive photography, which employs techniques not commonly seen in typical food photography—cutting cooking equipment and kitchen ingredients in half and using custom-built lenses to photograph elements under a microscope." - Candice Woo

As someone who likes photography and food, this place is one of the most interesting art galleries in La Jolla if not in the US. There is even a video showing the process of how it was done. No Photoshop or heavy editing, pure studio skills.

Pleasantly surprised by this gallery. I was just walking by and saw the hamburger photo and I was intrigued! Really fun gallery of food!

Stopped by while gallery hopping with my husband, "Lindsey" asked us if we were familiar with the artist and when I said "no" she responded very condescending, stating "hmph well, some people DO." Made me feel like an idiot for even suggesting that I didn't know the artist- we turned around and walked right out. If you don't look like you can afford to look here, just don't. They are not very welcoming and come off as snobby. Pictures are the 1 star since what we DID see was very nice.
