What a great brewery and community! Owner is always on the premises, willing to talk beer and beer culture. Great open area, with plenty of seating. Pizza is spectacular, need to get Portnoy here. Beer is best in Portland, with wine, sours and soft drinks for kids.

Crazy this place only has 54 reviews. After a beer snob’s trip along Mass/Maine, the best beer we had hands down. Their beer stands out in a crowded and talented field.

Out of all of the Portland breweries this has become our favorite! They make crisp, hoppy IPA’s, the pizza is fresh and amazing, and the location has plenty of outdoor space and a modern vibe.

Second visit was as epic as the first! All you need to do to understand the name of the brewery is talk to the owner. Amazing beers and dropping some killer knowledge. If you happen upon a brewery where the owner says things like I brew beer I want to drink you should never leave…have yet to try a beer we did not like. Worth the 2 hour round trip drive to visit…but if you want to doubt me it will be more beer for us.

New to Maine but not New England. This New Hampshire brewery just arrived on the Portland brew scene. Newly opened, we are excited to see how the space evolves into their own. We are huge IPA fans, and these fresh brews did not disappoint. We enjoyed the uniqueness of each of our choices: It's a beautiful thing & Throwback to the future. We'll be back! Amazing beer obviously, and a beautiful indoor and outdoor green space. The Portland beer scene offers tough competition, but Modestman holds their own and earns a place up at the top of the list. Excited to go back!

Best IPAs in Maine and the pizza is off the chain good! Great outdoor patio with rotating bands. Dog and kid friendly! Great place. Very CHILL.

MM is one of the top breweries in Portland, if you prefer hazy IPAs. They do have sours, lagers, pilners, stouts and canned seltzers and wine too. Before we go there, they have a large parking lot! It tends to fill up on weekends but there are usually spots. If you had been to the space before MM was there, you know the bar was small. Since taking over the space, the bar has been extended pretty much to the bathroom, so lots more places to order and sit. This also means the cans to-go are behind the bar so it's no longer self serve. The outdoor space has been reinvigorated with a pizza oven and fire pits. This is one of the only breweries that still allows furry friends, on leash. Like I said, MM is putting out some of the top NE style IPAs, which is fantastic for those of us who still drink them. Hop heads seem to be a devoted crowd.

Had never been to Modestman brewing in Maine (home prior to Fore River Brewing co) in South Portland. We stopped on a late Saturday afternoon for some beers and music they had with a live band which was great. My wife and I loved the whole relaxed feel of the place- the bartender was friendly and answered my questions and gave a bunch of recommendations as we worked through a bunch of samples of beers and ordered a few pints. A good overall selection of different styles and options- they are definitely heavier on fruitier/hazy IPAs and NE IPAs, but also had a good Pilsner, dark lager, octoberfest, a stout and some others. The double IPAs are smooth for the higher alcohol so watch out! Of note they also offer canned seltzer, wine and non alcoholic beer and other drink options for those who are not beer people in your group. Unlike many breweries who offer basically no food, they had made to order brick oven pizzas-I think 3 to choose from- we had a Margherita the only vegetarian option which came out pretty quick. Also had warm pretzels with dipping mustard-all was good and would get both again. They also have a nice lawn outside area with fire pits and places to hang out. All in all a smaller spot, low key with cozy warm (not cold like most breweries) temps with wood stove, high ceilings, clean, nice people and beers I could get used to drinking more. The food and live music made it even better! Recommended.

Site of the old Fore River brewery, we have a new brewery. This is a new location of a New Hampshire brewery. Nice friendly atmosphere. Even had a couple kids running around. The tasting room also features a wood stove for added coziness! I enjoyed a pint of the Kraftwerk which is a Kolsch style. Delicious! Cheers!

Go here now! The beers were amazing and our beertender, Shelby, was absolutely lovely. The IPAs are incredibly balanced, yet distinct. It's a lovely environment and we ended up staying way longer than planned because the environment was so pleasant and beers amazing!

So me and my husband having been coming to Modestman brewing for close to a year and have to say one of the best brewery around from levels of different IPAS to browns to Sours . Also carry RTDS. Just started making homemade pizza from scratch delicious it is a must to check this place out. It use to be called Fore River Brewery.

One of the latest in Maine, and certainly one of the greatest. The brewmaster comes from the well-respected brewery in NH and landed in an ideal SoPo spot, a refreshing change from urban concrete patios. And easy on-off 295! They specialize in hazey offerings (and they are spectacular) but always have other choices of ale, lager and cider. Great live music can be heard at times. A pizza oven will be built soon, and a wood stove will be installed inside for winter. But don't wait for them. Relax here now!

Yet another brewery that I am giving a 5-star review for but so deserving. Modestman has taken over where Fore River Brewing was for years. An already established brewery known for some of the best IPAs in NH makes their way into the crowded market of Greater Portland area. I stopped here during their very first day opened, "super soft opening" as they described. Not even a menu of their tap offerings but because already an established brewery they had lots of 4-packs. Once they really get up and running with final touches of the taproom and outside area this will be a popular spot. Some phenomenal IPAs and a great sour we tried as well. Look forward to them eventually serving pizza and hosting live music. Will easily become one of the most stop breweries in the area!

Well, let's start with the most important part: their beer is good!!! Excellent, actually. The kolsch was delightful and refreshing, the sours were interesting and nicely balanced and the IPAs are up there with any others in the area and sure to be very popular. Because of already being established in NH, the cans are already flowing and available (like, a LOT of them) and much of the can art is badass. Fun to show off when you buy some. I can already see people stacking cases and loading up the cars. The owner seemed like a super nice, chill dude. I'd like to see them eventually add some more of their own touches to the place, besides the logo mural on the wall, as it still feels a lot like Fore River, albeit with much different beers. But I'm sure they were just trying to get open ASAP to get established. As always, the back lawn is an awesome hang. Met a cool dog named Porter.

Nice vibes. They did a nice job inside, the place looks far cooler than when Fore River was running this place. Very good beer, great pizza and nice little outside spot to chill in with da hound.

This place is great. Very cozy and friendly atmosphere and ambiance, great bartenders that have good recommendations - a lovely spot! Go!
