The 38 Best Restaurants in Indianapolis, Indiana | Eater

"Located inside the Bottleworks District, a former Coca-Cola bottling plant turned food hall, the pan-Asian Modita combines popular street food items with local ingredients, putting an Indianapolis-specific spin on the flavors. In a breathtaking spot in what used to be the building’s loading dock, executive chef Megan Stoller presents sushi, chicken tandoori, grilled pork bao, and lumpia, among other treats. Vibe check: While many of the Bottleworks’ venues are casual vendors, Modita is more of a sit-down experience." - Brian Garrido

Hands down the BEST Mongolian beef we have ever had in our lives. No exaggeration — it was tender, flavorful, perfectly seasoned, and just melted in your mouth. The ginger salad was fresh and vibrant, a perfect balance to the richness of the main dish. The atmosphere at Modita is classy but relaxed, and the ambiance is on point — warm lighting, great music, and a beautifully designed space that sets the tone for a memorable night out. Service was attentive and friendly from start to finish. We had an amazing time and seriously can’t wait to go back. Modita just raised the bar.

Google
Really beautiful restaurant! Really amazing staff. The staff were very good on checking on us and filling up our water. We got a good amount of food. To me the food was okay. My other group found it good. Maybe its just not my style. But i definitely recommend people to go and try! There are some steps to some tables! There were some booths. The bathrooms were nice and clean. There was 4 individual bathrooms which is very nice! Music isnt loud at all which is great. Great for conversation!,

Google
I just can’t justify 5 fried dumplings for $18 😭this is street food 😭 the dumplings took 30 mins to arrive, sushi took another 40. Was sitting by the bar on a Monday with the restaurant nowhere near full capacity. Spicy tuna roll was pretty good. I’m just horrified at the dumplings 😭 I will say that the bartender and service was incredible!

Google
Absolutely outstanding establishment. Our server, Austin (Dawson!), generously took time to explain each section of the menu, pointing out favorites and details along the way. The Wagyu Nigiri was incredible, and was truly a one of a kind flavor. The Tuna Roll was also outstanding. Service was consistently quick. Overall, a wonderful place I will certainly return to.

Google
We have been to Modita two times. The service and atmosphere of Modita have been wonderful both times, but the food has been average especially considering the price point. On our latest visit, we got the salmon uramaki roll but the salmon was inexplicably seared rather than raw. We did enjoy cocktails and mocktails, which seem to be Modita's strong suit. Overall, I would recommend Modita if you're looking for a nicer place to get some drinks.

Google
VERY GLUTEN FREE FRIENDLY! I saw Modita on TikTok and had to check out the hype. From the moment you walk in you are starting the experience. I went with a group of friends so we could properly have dim sum and it did not disappoint. They are able ti make a lot of dietary modifications! Did not take away from the meal. Also - Don’t forget it’s part of Cunningham restaurant group so if you have a free VIP account, you get points for spending! Pork Bao Buns were my favorite!

Augusto Paulino

Google
The menu at Modita is pan-Asian, reinterpreting dishes from Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Thai and Indian cuisines. Individually, the dishes are generally good. The grilled pork belly bao buns ($18) and the chicken skewers ($18) surprisingly shared a very similar flavor profile and could have used a brightly acidic pickled condiment to cut through the heavy sauce. The pork kimchi fried rice ($19) was interesting and only mildly spicy that diners who may normally shy away from spicy food shouldn’t be afraid to try it. The Kalbi-style beef short rib ($32) was flavorful but is not as tender as the traditional Korean short ribs. So conceptually, I think because Modita tries to appeal as broadly as possible, the flavors are not as focused. You get dishes that are not quite Korean, or not quite Thai, etc. Dinner was enjoyable nonetheless.

Google
The dirty martini was perfectly balanced, and I enjoyed all the dishes we ordered except for the dessert and the oily naan. The mango cake had an odd imitation crab meat flavor, which was quite off-putting. I’m giving four out of five stars for service. Our main waitress was amazing, but some of the other staff gave us judgmental looks when we initially said we would stay and later double-checked the closing time with our waitress. We didn’t mind leaving once we confirmed the closing time, but the behavior of those staff members left an unnecessary impression.

Yelp
Sometimes I forget about this CRG spot, and then when bodhi is inevitably packed I make my way here and wonder why I don't remember it more often, the food is always fantastic, the cocktails are wonderful, and the service is always great. Don't skip this spot, great shareables.

Yelp
BAO BUNS!! Everytime I think of Modita, I think of their bao buns. Love them. Came here with a colleague and of course already knew what I wanted to get. First time for her, and so for apps we split the bao buns (3 pieces), brussels sprouts(generous portion) and potstickers(3 pieces). Super great round of starters! No complaints at all. For my entree I got the short rib, and I don't know if it's listed or not, but I wasn't expecting it to still be on the bone. In my mind, I envisioned *braised* short rib. However, it was pretty decent! I also got a side of fried rice as the short rib came by itself. My colleague got a sushi roll and I wish I could remember which one, but she liked it a lot! The ambiance of this place is 10/10. Low lighting, intimate booth seating, and I think they have a pretty cool layout of the space. I always have great service while I'm there which is a plus!

Yelp
I recently went to Modita and got the $40 three course devour menu + another entree. The devour menu was diverse and included fan favorites (like the bao buns). It did give 2 bao buns instead of 3, but tasted just as delicious. It did kind of seem like the pork belly was cut thinner than usual but I'm not sure if that's accurate. I can't really complain though - the buns were steamed perfectly, the slaw was light and the pork belly had a good amount of sauce. The drinks were great - I really enjoyed the Azolla. It was a really nice blend of flavors that were wintery yet bright and vibrant. It had blackberry and fig infused rum, winter spice syrup, yuzu, lime, lavender bitters, and mezcal. I don't love rum and I actually really dislike mezcal so I was nervous about this drink, but I loved it! It truly was spiced yet floral yet sweet. It was the perfect combination of flavors in my opinion and the smokiness of the mezcal was not the star of the show, which I liked. The aslam wasn't as tasty as I expected from reading the menu. It's Ginger Tumeric-Infused Reposado, plum whiskey, apricot liqueur, lemon, ginger syrup, and Crème De Cassis. For loving all the ingredients, I'm really not sure why I didn't love the drink. Food wise, the abura soba noodles were part of the devour menu. The waitress described it as a broth less ramen, which was perfectly accurate. I think because of there being no broth, the pork, mushroom and bean sprouts weren't as tender as expected, but it was still a really savory, umami dish that was a nice winter treat. The flavors were really good, but if you didn't get the sauce at the bottom of the bowl, you didn't get all that flavor. We ordered the tamarind noodles separately from the devour menu because they're one of my favorites. This time they tasted more like pad Thai than they did in the past. They always give a really generous amount of shrimp, so that's quite nice. The yuzu bar is a classic - kind of like a lemon bar but with yuzu flavor instead of just lemon and sugar? It was 10/10 as always and it was a huge portion honestly. I was super surprised. The staff is always really kind and knowledgeable. They are helpful when asking for recommendations and check on you once your meal has arrived. I had another great experience here and would do the 3 course devour meal again for sure!

Yelp
OK SO GOOD! I picked my mom (a self-proclaimed foodie) up from the Indy airport and wanted to treat her to a nice meal before heading home. We landed at Modita and MAN it hit the spot! No drinks this time, but we started with the potstickers and they were fantastic! We were both indecisive so we decided to split two entrees: the Mongolian beef noodles and the Shrimp Tamarind Noodles. The Mongolian beef melted in your mouth and tasted like it had been cooking all day. The shrimp dish was a like a twist on pad thai and the candied peanuts were such a great addition to it. We have not had a meal that good in awhile and Modita has quickly jumped to the top of my favorites list for dinner in DT Indy! You can expect any restaurant from the Cunningham Group to be good, but this was top notch! Definitely check Modita out the next time you're in the Bottleworks District!

Yelp
The ambiance and service are great here, as expected. The naan bread with the three different dips was the winner I think, who doesn't love some fried naan? Bao buns were also pretty tasty though a bit on the sweet side (I guess that's the fusion part of Asian fusion). Short ribs too were a bit sweet. I loved the shishito peppers, roasted with a lot of flavor. Buuuut the chicken and broccoli left much to be desired. For a pretty hefty price tag, we got the tiniest pieces of chicken! Not satisfying bite at all. That was my least favorite dish for sure. Portions are okay but you're definitely paying for the ambiance, the food is not bad, but nothing really to write home about in my opinion (especially at those prices!).

Yelp
My sister chose this restaurant to celebrate her birthday in. My mom made a reservation and the staff continuously wished my sister a happy birthday which always makes for a good experience. I went with the appetizer of the bao buns and the entrée of Mongolian beef noodles. The bao buns were an excellent starter. They were soft, and the pork belly was extremely tender and flavorful. The Mongolian beef noodles was a great dish as well with nice flavor and a nice amount of beef. I was able to sample some of the dessert as well. I tried the Yuzu bar and some of the mochi ice cream. I much prefer the mochi ice cream as I thought the Yuzu bar was a little tart. The restaurant has a dark and semi loud ambience, but it seems like a nice place for a date night.
google avatar

Alissa J.

Yelp
We visited here last night for dinner to celebrate my sisters birthday. We had made a reservation and were seated right away. The restaurant has a modern Japanese theme with well organized dining tables. Our server was incredibly friendly and explained the menu thoroughly. This month the restaurant was offering the Devour menu, so I decided to start with the bao buns (so tasty), my entree was the soba noddles(flavor was a bit lackluster) and dessert was mochi ice cream. Overall it was a very nice dining experience.

Yelp
We had time to kill one evening so decided to give Modita a try. I was attracted by the inviting atmosphere - it was a warm night and the patio door was wide open. We sat at the bar and tried a few of the specialty cocktails and an order of kimchi fried rice. The cocktails were delicious (and strong). Mine was the Dragon's Challenge (spicy marg). The other was Summer with Aunt Thuy. Not my favorite- a little too herbal but it was pretty and my dining partner enjoyed it. The fried rice was delicious- tasted a bit like the inside of PF Changs lettuce wraps. The service was efficient and friendly. Pricing was a bit high, buy probably appropriate for the area.

Yelp
Came in to eat with a couple of friends and had a good time till i heard the male manager swearing at full volume for 5 minutes straight. Very bad vibes. Food was great though and Brooke was an amazing server.

Yelp
I recently had an amazing meal at Modita and just had to share! The sushi was top-notch--so fresh and delicious. You could tell the chefs put a lot of care into each piece. But what really made the night was Evan, our server. He was awesome! Super friendly, knew his stuff, and made great recommendations. Evan made sure everything was perfect without being overbearing. If you love sushi or just want a great dining experience, definitely check out Modita. You won't be disappointed!

Yelp
I looooove Modta down. The Asian fusion works so well. Great mocktails and always great and thorough service. The portion size is great. It's a nice vibe for a date night or anything intimate. Works for random outings too.

Yelp
We were wandering around downtown and decided to take a chance and see if we could get in at Modita. The staff was so friendly and accommodating. We did not have a reservation and they moved things around so we could be seated right away. Everything we ate was spectacular. I could eat the salmon roll 100 times. Even on a hot summer night, it was dim and romantic inside. We loved it.

Yelp
Modita was magnificent!!! Started off with some fried brussel sprouts. By far the best I've ever had! The flavor is out of this world. I also tried the bao buns and all I can say is... keep em coming! Then for my entree I had the salmon which was truly a delicious end to my evening. Anna was our server and she truly was such a sweetheart with an amazing and upbeat personality. If you are looking for a yummy yet chill vibe for dinner, need I tell you where to go? lol I can't wait to go back!!

Yelp
Our experience at Modita was outstanding! We were staying at Bottleworks Hotel. After driving in from Cincinnati, we had no plans for dinner. We considered room service, bit I noticed Modita was pretty much two steps away. We hopped on the elevator. We exited to signs pointing to the restaurant. We didn't even need to leave the hotel! We did not have reservations, obviously. Though we arrived just as they were opening, I was concerned, but the staff were more than accommodating and sat us right away. Before talking about the food, which was extraordinary, I have to mention dining experience itself. Courses were served slowly and purposefully. After each, our table was cleared. Fresh plates and silverware were placed before the next course. The experience felt so special. I quite honestly felt like we're were royalty. It was very special. And now the food. Everything was so very, very good. To start I ordered a Meguro Sakura - Cherry Blossom Infused Absolut Vodka | Shochu Citrus Liqueur | Raspberry | Ginger | & Pink Peppercorn Shrub | Yuzu | Lime | Bittercube Cherry Bark Vanilla Bitters | Yuki Sparkling Sake. It was fantastic Mark had the miso soup, which he enjoyed. I had the Ginger Miso Salad, which was absolutely delightful! Appetizers followed. We ordered Pork Soup Dumpling (5 Pc) Black Garlic | Ginger Vinegar - Wow! I have no words these were extraordinary! For dinner I ordered the Ahi Tuna and Mark had the Mongolian Beef Noodles. Seriously, never y bite was a perfectly yummy moment. I don't recall, what we ordered for dessert, but I do remember they were both extraordinary! Any future trips to Indianapolis will definitely include dinner at Modita!

Yelp
Part of the successful Cunningham Restaurant Group, conveniently attached to Bottleworks, this is a frequent dinner stop for me and my crew. Our two go-to apps: pork bao buns that consist of cloud-like fluffy buns stuffed with tender pork belly, and crispy lightly fried Filipino lumpia. So good! Recommend the ube ice cream if it's available! Perfect not-too- sweet dessert! It's a little splurge/spendy but worth it!

Yelp
LOVE THIS RESTAURANT!!! Birthday celebration for a large party. The service was good despite we had a party of over 10 people. The variety of food was amazing! I ordered the Tofu & Shrimp Green Coconut Curry, the BEST I've had to date! The restaurant is located at the Garage. Although there is free lot parking, weekends are extremely so be prepared to wait or grab a meter.

Josh K.

Yelp
Ok this place is fantastic! The Buns, and Brussels sprouts are a must for starters. The kimchi fried rice, the chicken and peanut sauce, and Mongolian Beef are wonderful. We finished with a Yuzu Bar. Ok so we made it through the snow to find a warm and inviting staff and place, seated promptly. We meandered through our meal and were taken care of by Brooke, who was epic. By the time we left this wonderful place was filled up with people on a snowy nasty night. This should answer whether or not it's worth going....ask for Brookes area she will take care of you! Will definitely be back
google avatar

Timea M.

Yelp
My last experience at Modita was absolutely horrible. We had a reservation for 7:30 and did not receive food until 9:30. As the food starting coming mind you we specifically asked for all food to come at once.. the food coming out was COLD! It was almost like the food had been sitting there. Ice cold bao buns literally were gross sent that back. Our tempura shrimp was cold sent that back as well. Sucks because modita is a restaurant I typically rave about but the service has literally went DOWNHILL!
google avatar

Thama P.

Yelp
Food: was really tasty! I had dumplings and they were yummmmy! The flavor was hitting! Service was really nice he explained things, was rushing us, made wonderful recommendations! The ambiance was so quaint and calm. It was very comfortable.
google avatar

Rebecca P.

Yelp
One of my favorite places in the city! I just CANT get enough of their amazing Gyozas (the dough and sauce on top is just sooo flavorful!) and their BEST dish the Yakisoba noodles. Please do not expect authentic Asian - this place intends to have unique twists on dishes often combining flavors from their fresh greens wall feature. Service is excellent and attentive and the prices aren't bad for downtown Indianapolis - the bar feels classy with about 7-8 seats. This place can get super busy with sometimes 2 hour wait times in the evenings.. be sure to make a reservation. OR you can visit Duckpin Bowling/shop at the local shops while you are waiting! Excellent area of town for an entire evening of fun.

Yelp
I travel to Indianapolis annually for work & this is one of the best meals I have had in the city. The space was dark and brooding - but made it also feel cozy & sophisticated inside. I hope to remember the first bite of the shrimp tamarind noodles forever - it was that good. A delicate balance of the sweet & savory with a fresh burst of lime. I also highly recommend the tuna tartare - the fish was fresh & we got a great shareable portion for the price. Not pictured, but also ordered at our table was the Mongolian Beef & the Chicken Tandoori. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their food & the strong flavor profiles of all of the dishes. Additionally, our server was excellent - provided recommendations, answered our questions about ingredients in dishes & was overall just added to our pleasant dining experience.

Yelp
Great service! The waiter was able to guide us through the menu and give recommendations. Everything was amazing from the sushi to the entrees. Love the soup dumplings and bao. Great dessert options

Debra W.

Yelp
A good friend of mine brought me here for my birthday on Wednesday night. everything started off great, cocktails were great and so were the apps And service. once entrees came out I was disappointed with what I'd ordered as it was not what I was expecting and requested if I could order the dish my friend had ordered. My dish also came with a side of noodles. The server took the entree off the bill but not the side of noodles. when I requested for the noodles, that I did not eat, to be taken off as well, I was met with an attitude and told that I'd eaten half of the bowl and that there would be an issue with his manager. I in fact had not eaten half the bowl of noodles and that accusation alone ruined my birthday experience here. I felt profiled and uncomfortable. The server went back and forth with me about whether I'd eaten a half empty bowl of noodles they'd given me, ON MY BIRTHDAY. you'd think they'd given better service to someone coming to celebrate at their establishment. I didn't call the manager over because I was just over the whole experience.

Yelp
We were lucky to walk in last minute and grab a seat at the bar, even though it was really busy. The bar seating was actually really nice, and the servers were great. I loved their non-alcoholic cocktail. The place might look unassuming from the outside, but it's a solid spot for date night or a nicer dinner.
google avatar

Larry M.

Yelp
Awesome! In town for work and came in for dinner. Staying at adjacent Bottleworks Hotel. Wasn't sure about the place and had not read any reviews. Just cold outside and was looking for a nearby place for dinner. Really great food!
google avatar

Arie L.

Yelp
Usually this place is 5/5 and one of my favorite places in Indy. Just had an off night. Korean Corn Dogs only come around once a year, but ours weren't very warm when they got to us. Drinks took 20+ minutes. Bao buns were good but not as good as usual.. jam packed with the cabbage mix. Kimchi fried rice had a burnt taste. Shrimp on the sushi roll was over battered. Like I said, typically one of my favorite places but they just had an off night.
google avatar

Kaleigh L.

Yelp
This place is fancy and impressive! Perfect date night spot. It's darker/intimate and decorated nicely. The menu is unique and confused us a little at first. There's appetizers but also small plates (dim sum) - then a section that is just grilled meats - and then regular entrees. Oh and sushi. Do yourself a favor and get the Bao Buns. They are in the dim sum and honestly I'd go back just for those! All the food we tried was great (bao buns, soup dumplings, chicken udon noodles, beef Szechuan noodles). Only thing I'd like to see is maybe they offer one sushi option that is cooked - all sushi options here are raw.

Tyanna M.

Yelp
Had dinner here with a foodie group that I belong to. It was a very good meal, PanAsian cuisine. It was Devour Indy week so I stuck with the Devour menu. The restaurant is very pretty and I parked near the entrance on the street and paid for parking with my Park Mobile app. This is also next door to The Garage (a place filled with vendors, restaurants, bars) and they have a parking lot there as well. We had a reservation which is highly recommended during Devour week. We were seated in the back corner and had a group of 7. They promptly took our drink order and we settled in. I had the albacore tuna tataki, the Chana masala, and the ice cream trio. I did not have a cocktail on this trip as my diet did not allow for one :( but settled for an unsweetened ice tea. The dishes were certainly picture worthy as everything was beautifully presented. The 1st course was the Albacore Tuna Tataki and it had pickled daikon and carrot, scallion, and ponzu. Very pretty dish and tasty as well. My 2nd course, again chosen because of the new diet I am on, was Chana masala without the chicken or tofu added. It was chickpeas, Yukon gold potatoes, cilantro, and white rice. A very saucy dish but good. The 3rd course was the ice cream trio, ube Heath bar, champagne mango, coconut sorbet. OMG that ube Heath bar flavor was outstanding! My total bill under the Devour menu was 47.42 and it was worth giving it a try. I liked it, not sure I will go back because my list of restaurants to try is incredibly long but definitely at least worth going to try once!

Theresa G.

Yelp
Let me start off by saying that our service was incredible! Our server (Camilla) was great and gave us the full rundown on the menu and what some of her favorites were along with the things we must try as first timers here. The atmosphere was dark and moody, which is my favorite. We did a big variety of food - buns, egg rolls, dumplings, pot stickers, wagyu steak, kimchi rice, and the chocolate cake for dessert. It was all very good! I did feel like (while delicious) some of the food lacked some standout flavor. For example, when I think of kimchi rice, I would have expected maybe a bit more sour or standout flavor to it - but it just tasted like normal fried rice to me. The steak was cooked to perfection and was definitely the highlight. I also thought the dumplings stood out between all the dim sum we ordered. We will definitely try this place again and hit some of the other menu items we didn't get to!

Joselyn D.

Yelp
Service food and ambiance are all top notch. A staple in Indianapolis. You have to try the boa buns
google avatar

Yelp
I came here for my graduation dinner on a Thursday night at 7:30 pm. We were seated immediately and welcomed by our waitress. We decided to eat our dinner family-style, meaning we shared all of the dishes. We tried several of the dishes including the: - edamame (has a sweet/sour sauce) - crab rangoon - tuna uramaki roll - salmon uramaki roll - this was the BEST of the two rolls, I wished that I ordered 2 of the salmon rolls instead of the tuna roll - tofu & shrimp green curry - a delicious curry that's very creamy with a little spice; comes with choice of rice - mapo tofu with lotus - a bit on the spicy side, but not too overpowering - wagyu skirt steak with charred bok choy - I was told that this was the BEST wagyu (I didn't eat any, but everyone at the table loved it) Their portions are generous and you can tell everything is freshly made. They offer such a good variety of Asian cuisine and I would love to come back to try more!
google avatar

Lindsey C.

Yelp
Perfect girls night spot! We had reservations and were seated immediately. Everything on the menu sounded amazing so we ordered a bunch: brussels, bao buns, potstickers, soup dumplings, crab ragoons. The highlights were the brussels and the bao buns! I would order just those next time and be happy. We however didn't like the crab ragoons at all as the filling was more soupy and very fishy. We also ordered four different entrees and they were all yummy! We will be back.

Yelp
This high-end restaurant truly lives up to its reputation. We ordered the Mongolian beef noodles and pork kimchi fried rice, and both dishes were absolutely delicious. The flavors were rich and well-balanced, showcasing the chef's expertise. The staff at Modita were incredibly helpful and friendly, enhancing our dining experience with their attentive service. The ambiance is sophisticated and elegant, making it a perfect spot for a special occasion or a refined night out. While the prices are on the higher side, they are justified by the quality of the food, service, and overall experience. If you're looking for an upscale dining experience with delicious food and excellent service, I highly recommend Modita.
google avatar

Jasmine L.

Yelp
My fiancé and I recently visited Modita for dessert and cocktails, and we had a fantastic experience! We decided to sit at the bar, and the staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. I was unsure about which drink to order, but they took the time to discuss a few options from the menu that they thought I might enjoy. They also recommended two desserts, and I have to say, the Ube ice cream was absolutely amazing! Please please try it when you come in! It was not only delicious but also had a unique purple color, which added a cute touch to the presentation. And if you have some extra room, also get the Yuzu Bar because it was well made and had a unique sweet and tarte flavor. My partner and I definitely will be back!
google avatar

Saba K.

Yelp
A very cute and intimate place! Was seated upstairs which was a no no! It is next to the kitchen and it was so hot we were all sweating! Went on a Friday night so it was busy too! The service was good as there was multiple people bringing you your things, but everyone was nice and got whatever you needed. The espresso martinis were good. The chicken skewers were amazing!!! the sauce was so good it was hard to share. Got the salmon, Mongolian beef, and noodle bowl and everything was delicious. Will be going back.

Yelp
One word....excellent! The food was excellent, the cocktails were excellent, the dessert was excellent, the service was excellent!

Yelp
We tried all kinds off the menu. My favorite was hamachi roll. Food was good overall. Food came out pretty fast. Staff was attentive. Ind trial and Asian decoration is pretty cool vibe. There's public parking across the restaurant building next to the Garage.

Yelp
First time eating at one of the side restaurants by the Bottleworks, tricky to get the right door. Beautiful restaurants with lots of stunning things to look at. Service was amazing, above and beyond. The Soup Dumplings were the best thing on the menu . The king salmon was perfect, but I'm not sure it was worth the cost. Do not get the Cowboy sake , worsr sake ever, tasted like dirt and leather
google avatar

Kia A.

Yelp
A cool restaurant in the Bottleworks district, expect to pay for parking. The food is wonderful with a little bit of a kick.
google avatar

Yelp
The food, ambiance, and service is great at Modita! The food is Asian fusion style. If you like mushrooms, I HIGHLY recommend the mushroom appetizer. We also ordered a really interesting sushi roll that was absolutely delicious-- hamachi uramaki roll. SO GOOD. This is a Cunningham group restaurant so you can't go wrong! Recommend making reservations in advance.
google avatar

Rachel K.

Yelp
The food here was incredible. We got bao buns (9.5/10) , fried brussel sprouts (7/10), soup dumplings (8.5/10) and short ribs (12/10). The service was amazing, our server was very attentive and knowledgeable. Vibes were immaculate. Definitely will be coming back!

Yelp
Everything was absolutely delicious for our night out at modita. We ended up spending a few hours lounging at this restaurant with amazing food and drinks. The vibes were *chefs kiss * . I started off with a Lady of Tani cocktail that was exactly what I wanted - a light refreshing sweeter cocktail. My second drink later that night was the Rudra, which was such a smooth, coconut-based drink. We ordered a few appetizers to share as a table. The edamame was a great starter, coated in a garlic-chili salt what was so flavorful. The pork bao buns were so pillowy soft with the nice contrasting crunch from the coleslaw that tied beautifully with the flavors of the pork belly. I loved the spicy kick from the pork soup dumplings. The salmon roll tasted so fresh. The Hamachi Uramaki Roll was a unique veggie roll w Asian pear and garlic chip. Everything tasted great! We had such attentive service throughout our meal. They really hit the mark: not overly pushy, available when we needed them, and helpful with all of our questions. They also recommended great drinks based on our individual preferences. Will be back soon to check out the dessert menu!

Yelp
We took a chance on trying this restaurant on a whim and I am very happy that we did! Our meal and drinks were divine. The waitress told us all about the vast offerings of the Cunningham brand and took plenty of time discussing food options with us. Allergies were also addressed at ordering and upon food delivery to the table. During my next visit to Indianapolis, this will be a place I will be sure to visit.

Yelp
You may need a flashlight walking into modita on a sunny day. The ambiance is that of a speakeasy. It's dark and moody but with excellent food. A friend and I got the bao buns to share and we couldn't get enough of them. They had a bbq like sauce and the pork belly was so tender and flavorful. We split the tempura tuna roll that they had on special and liked it well enough. For our main course we had the sweet & spicy sesame chicken. The dish had a lot of flavors and you could definitely get a couple good bites of pineapple. This restaurant is perfect for a date night. The menu is all asian inspired dishes so if you don't like those flavors this might not be for you. We had great service and had a lot of attention to filling our drinks and clearing the table.

Yelp
Sushi is always so good and the boa buns! Service is always amazing! I rushed after dinner to go to the living room theatre and forgot my credit card and the server had it in the office for me when I noticed I forgot it!

Yelp
The bao buns were the best I've ever had. The service was attentive and professional and there's plenty of space in the venue. I ordered the Dragon's Challenge cocktail, which was pretty good!

Yelp
First time trying this place a few weeks ago and most of the food was amazing! The ambiance was beautiful. Our sever was really nice and helpful with food and drink choices. The only thing I would change is the type of chopsticks. I would choose wooden over the plastic. Or give the option.

Yelp
ambiance of the place is nice. definitely felt upscale and intimate, at least on the weeknight i went. my family ordered a bunch of dishes to share, my favorite being the samosas and the brussel sprouts (so crispy!) i don't love kimchi but the pork kimchi fried rice was really good too. very cool selection of cocktails as well!
