Had the buffet dinner on the Fourth of July. I believe this was a Fourth of July special, but we got an all-you-can-eat buffet for $35 per person. We had each of the cole slaw, potato salad, baked beans, mac and cheese, black eyed peas and collard greens, gumbo, pulled pork, BBQ chicken wings and legs, smoked turkey, ribs, chicken, and some kind of Oreo pudding dessert.
Meat: The ribs were solid. Very moist and juicy, though some ribs were a bit on the fatty side. Went nicely with the red BBQ sauce, which was a little sweet and a little spicy, exactly how a good BBQ sauce should be. The pulled pork was a bit dry, but worked okay with the red sauce, which balanced out the dryness, so overall was decent. The other meat was pretty mediocre.
Sides: Among the sides, I thought the slaw was the best. Paired well with the pulled pork. The potato salad was okay too, as were the baked beans, though something about the latter tasted a little off to me (can't quite pinpoint what). The blacked eyed peas and collard greens were kind of bland and cold, which might have been due to the buffet style for the evening, but I did appreciate that they weren't too wet and buttery, as collard greens often are. The gumbo was fine. The mac and cheese was highly disappointing, as it very light on the cheese. I don't need the cheesiest mac and cheese ever, but this was more like pasta with butter and some shredded cheese on top. Very little cheese incorporated *into* the macaroni.
Dessert: The Oreo pudding thing was good. Simple, but tasty. The sort of thing you might expect someone to bring to a potluck--but that you would be happy that they brought.
Overall, I would come back if I were in Tahoe and for some reason were craving BBQ, in which case I would order the ribs. But otherwise, there are better options around.
