Your Next Weekend Trip from NYC Should Be to Asbury Park, New Jersey

"One of our personal favorites is MOGO Korean Fusion tacos, which you can find on the boardwalk between Asbury Avenue and 1st Avenue. The small stand’s menu is simple: Customers pick from six different taco types (beef bulgogi and shrimp are musts), with prices ranging from $4-5 per taco."

I came today 10/01 around 1:45 pm for first time with my Korean partner. I had gone to many Korean restaurants I had ate all types of Korean plates and sadly this place gives a really bad impression of what Korean food is. Our order was a plate of Korean beef bowl, Korean spicy wings, fish taco and side of kimchi fried rice. The beef on bowl was over cooked like it was re heated!! Literally black and I could taste and see the pieces of meat all burnt out. Annoyed I stand and ask the guy to please change my plate for any other item which it end to be another fish taco. I throw the bowl away. The guy didn’t even say I am sorry for your experience.. please let me change your opinion.. nothing! The pictures just says it all.. was brought in a cold tortilla with lots of onion no cabbage and the fish not fully cooked. The kimchi rice looks and tasted re heated and we look through all trying to find the kimchi!!! Unbelievable we paid for this order over $40!! Bucks. Shame!! Like I said I have visited soooo many places.. and you guys give a bad name to my Korean fellows out there who really deserve better than this.

Google
Ordered here for the 1st time. Food was disappointing! I ordered the 3 piece kfc Korean style wings, that weren’t fully cooked. It tasted old and cringe! I gave it to my dogs. And the rice, No taste! No flavor! Just horrible. Also gave to my dogs. I do not recommend.

Google
MOGO has a fun atmosphere and great location. I've tried several of their tacos and the kimchi fried rice. They were pretty good, but not amazing. I do think the pickled bar is a great addition, though.

Google
It’s a great option if you need food late on Fridays or Saturdays. First off the Korean fried wings were solid. Ended up getting the buffalo kimchi and the soy ginger. The tacos were a miss, we ordered the chicken and the shrimp, the chicken was dry and didn’t have depth in terms of the flavor and the shrimp was battered and fried but the breading was soggy and not at all crispy. It was disappointing because this was a highly rated spot.

Google
Interesting concept. The shrimp and bulgogi tacos had great protein and toppings. But the tortillas were really not great. They should do corn and that would definitely bring it up. The Korean esquites goes well with their pear hot sauce.

Google
I LOVE this place, stop by almost every time I come to asbury Normally not a Korean fusion person but their soy glazed tofu is amazing and they actually pack their bowls with plenty of protein and rice. The rice is also soo good, I love the crispy bits and the banchan bar is also unlimited and a nice touch! They also have a really good rewards program! And the staff is always so friendly I can't recommend this place enough!!

Google
I'm addicted. The crispy tofu tacos are the best every time! Great vibes, too. Everyone working there is lovely and the music is always good.

Google
THE best casual Korean-fusion fast-service type restaurant EVER. They use fresh ingredients and everything I’ve had there has been prepared well. The flavors are bold, but not overpowering for people unaccustomed to Korean food. The concept of serving Korean flavors packaged as tacos, burritos, etc was pure genius. My particular favorite is the pork taco topped with creamy slaw. 10 out of 10 would smash.

Yelp
Tried MOGO at the recommendation of some friends we were visiting the boardwalk with. I am vegan and my fiancée is not, along with the added factor that he is severely allergic to fish. So finding restaurants down the shore that suit both our dietary preferences and needs can be tricky. We took about a 15 minute walk from the boardwalk into Asbury's downtown area which I had never had a chance to explore prior. First impressions: Super clean, nice and cool inside, relaxed environment, and super friendly and accommodating counter service. Very reasonably priced food as well. I had tofu tacos and a side of veggie fried rice. The tofu was lightly crisped with a spicy soy glaze topped with sesame slaw. The flavors blended perfectly. The fried rice had the bold flavors one expects and the rice was slightly crispy which I love. My fiancée had the cheese steak. He is super picky about cheese steaks and he absolutely loved it. Even told the owner directly (who was genuinely kind and accommodating btw). They do allow you to bring your own alcoholic beverages, though they have a great selection of non alcoholic beverages (Jarritos and Jones sodas as well as several fruity refreshers). We will definitely be back next time we drive down! I wish I had gotten photos but honestly it was so good we forgot to take them.

Yelp
MOGO is okay! The pork taco is good. Fish taco isn't too fishy. The shrimp taco Id say you can skip! Don't forget the kimchi the cucumber is so good. Service was kinda slow on the boardwalk. But I didn't mind.
google avatar

Yelp
Still solid quick serve restaurant food is delicious and fresh always a little twist that makes it great. I had the Korean beef bowl that did not disappoint and that Asian hot sauce is amazing
google avatar

Yelp
Fast food sometimes taste better than just fast food, thanks to tasty ingredients and thoughtful preparation and that's what you get with MOGO. We visited the Cookman location and were not disappointed. Will it knock your socks off? Probably not. But will it satisfy and be affordable? Definitely.
google avatar

Cecilia T.

Yelp
The tacos were great, the service was slow. We ordered two tacos and it took about 10 minutes to get them. Once we had them, they were superb. The bulgogi and tofu were a nice mix of sweet and savory and the slaw on top was crunchy and acidic. There is also a little toppings bar with a pear hot sauce, sweet daikon, kimchi, and spicy pickles - all were excellent.
google avatar

Yelp
MOGO is a NO GO. The highly rated fish taco was a little...bland! And the Korean fried chicken sandwich was dry (the slaw saved it). I also ordered the bibimbap burger and the patty reminded me of the rubbery ones they serve at a school cafeteria. Nasty patty aside, the fillings and fried egg were delicious! Apparently, the sandwiches used to come with potato salad, but they've since replaced that with tortilla chips. Talk about a downgrade! Bring back the tater salad! Hmph! Sincerely, A girl that loves potato salad

Yelp
My go to late night hangover/ currently drunk spot... it's so good I can't even begin to recommend anything GET IT ALL

Yelp
I LOVE MOGO!! Can't believe I've never reviewed it. Any & EVERY time that I am in Asbury Park, I will go out of my way to make a Mogo stop. Best part is that they're open late. Metered street parking, medium bright interior. Fun & funny staff. The concept of Korean Fusion Tacos is divine. As are the burritos, fries, doughnuts, & Fried Rice. Everything they do is perfection. Grades: Everything- A++
google avatar

Mike W.

Yelp
One of the best tacos I've ever had in my life. We got it at a catered event and they were super friendly and the tacos were delicious. I also liked the sides of cucumber kimchi and their pear hot sauce. I will definitely be checking out this place at a different time. The tofu taco was amazing.
google avatar

Nicole A.

Yelp
I tried both the fish and beef tacos, the fish was a favorite and I would return just for this. The beef was ok, a bit overwhelmed by the tomatoes/toppings. My biggest gripe with this place is the tables are always a little too dirty for my liking, it doesn't seem like they're wiped down throughout the day. I think this place would be best for take-out.
google avatar

Amelia S.

Yelp
Always phenomenal. Very affordable. Food is always so delicious. The pork tacos are my personal fave. Fiji hibiscus agua Fresca is a must. I always get the cheese for the chips & pico on the side. I could eat my weight in pickles from the kimchi bar. I've driven over an hour just to get them for dinner. Service and speed are usually pretty good. Cute merch. Clean. Love all the stickers on the bathroom.

Yelp
My first MOGO of 2024 didn't disappoint. Food was amazing and the music is always great. I left my main review below and nothing has changed. My go to is the KFC with soy singer.

Yelp
We came here for dinner one night when we wanted something quick and didn't feel like going out to a seat down restaurant. The place is counter service and you order at the counter and they give you a number that you put at your table and they will bring the food to you. It was a little hot inside so we sat outside which was nice. They have a little condiment bar that had some spicy cucumbers, kimchi, and something else that I didn't know what it was. If I knew this ahead of time, I wouldn't have gotten the kimchi fried rice with my bowl. I had the shrimp bowl which had generous size shrimp in it. It was the perfect size for me that I ate it all and was filled after. Someone in our group had the cheesesteak and I tried a piece of meat and it was so tender. Place is great for a quick bite for lunch or dinner. They are open late on Fridays and Saturdays so if you ever need a late night bite.

Adam C.

Yelp
Incredibly long wait. Walked out. Didn't eat the food. Idk I guess the ambiance was fine but the vibe was killed by the wait.
google avatar

Aysha A.

Yelp
Such a fun fusion place! I love the kimchi bar they have that you can help yourself to for extra toppings! I got the fish and bulgogi tacos and both were delicious and filling. The fried chicken wings were perfectly crispy, I would definitely come again!
google avatar

Matt P.

Yelp
While korean tacos taste better along the boardwalk, it was refreshing to find a sit-down version of Mogo downtown (especially after craving dinner prior to a show at House of Independents. Kimchi fried rice, and fusion fried rice of all varieties, hit different in the most awesome way possible. Insider tip... drizzle a spoonful of fried rice atop your bulgogi taco. You'll thank me later.
google avatar

Yelp
This place was amazing from the second we walked in. The cashier was welcoming, we dined in and she also came around to clean up after we were done eating which we didn't expect because you pay at the register and then have the food brought to your seats where your number is and you assume thats where the service ends but she went above and beyond. We ordered a burrito with vegetable fried rice and beef and a bowl with chicken and white rice. The fried rice was AMAZING!! It tasted like hibachi rice and the beef was full of flavor and the portion was generous. The bowl was good also but we should've gotten it with fried rice instead of white rice just because the fried rice is that good. Super cute place. Love this location versus the small one on the boardwalk. Will 100000000% return here as soon as possible. Loved the experience so much. For drinks we had prickly pear lemonade and mango lemonade and it was amazing.
google avatar

Tor P.

Yelp
Coolest staff, best food, and unbeatable tacos. (I do miss the potato salad) If I could give 10 stars I would.
google avatar

N C.

Yelp
Delicious! The Chicken taco The Donut The mango lemonade All excellent but I was impressed by the staff. Salute the young man working the register with the great glasses. The staff all communicated orders and worked so well together and all looked like they enjoy what they do
google avatar

John P.

Yelp
Amazing food! The flavors were absolutely incredible. Every bite was a burst of deliciousness. I couldn't get enough of it. The chef truly knows how to create a culinary masterpiece. I will definitely be coming back for more.

Yelp
I'd really like to give this but 1 star. I'm a local, and we pretty much have it on our short list for take out. Now, here's the issue. I live in Oakhurst, so it's convenient to just to do take out and pick up. The site gives me a number to call when I'm there, and have given them the make and model. I call it twice, and no one picks up. So I get out of my vehicle, risking a parking ticket as I'm double parked, and have to ask to find my order. NOT GOOD Sam. Not good at all. This on the heels of our last dinner take out (a Tuesday after a holiday) with my wife's Cod Burrito having NOT ONE piece of fish. You need to work on things and improve the counter skillsets (HS girls who are timid and not even close to being take charge individuals - this I've seen for over a year now). Now, the dilemma. I like your food. I don't need the bad customer experiences.

Kathy R.

Yelp
We stopped at the Long Branch/Pier Village location on busy Memorial Day with 5 adults and 3 toddlers. The service was great. Matt was so helpful. The food was delicious. Matt was great to bring us extra napkins, cups and condiments. We sat outside and still felt part of the place. Would highly recommend the chicken tacos and the bowls
google avatar

Darnisha E.

Yelp
I come here literally every time I am in Asbury and they never disappoint. Buffalo Kimchi wings are my favorite but I prefer the sauce on the side as the last time they weren't too crispy. Absolutely love the Asian Pear Hot Sauce. Chips and Pico are fresh. The Boki Cheesesteak and Beef Burrito are really good too. I usually do curbside and the staff seems friendly. They do have plenty of tables to sit inside tho.
google avatar

Yelp
O-M-G!!! Sooo good. I had a bulgogi taco for lunch today and it seriously one of the best things I have eaten in a very long time. I wish I ordered 3. I also ordered the Fuji apple hibiscus drink and it was absolutely perfect! Complemented the taco, not too sweet, very balanced. I just loved both my items. I came from quite far for something in the area but I am already thinking about when I can go back. I seriously loved it

L W.

Yelp
I've been wanting to come here for a while, ever since I knew they have a stand on the boardwalk. It took me many years to finally come here. L O L! We ordered the following: Beef taco , pork taco , fish taco and tofu taco. These were pretty good. They have a Kimchi bar that you can get toppings to put on top of your tacos. We also got the single bibimbap burger with tortilla chips. We all loved this burger, especially with the sunny side up egg on it. The esquites were good as well. We love Mexican corn. Kimchi fried rice was OK. We were very happy to find out that they have Jones soda fountain. We haven't had sodas in a while. It was refreshing to see a different soda fountain. That's not Coke or Pepsi. Lol. I also got the Mogo Fresca prickly pear lemonade because I wanted something different to drink. It was pretty nice. Service was friendly and quick. I'm glad that we got to try this place because I've been wanting to come here for a while. Will definitely return when in the area to try other items on the menu! Parking is a little difficult to find. We parked a few blocks away and it was meter parking.

Greg C.

Yelp
Jackson is the best! He was so attentive and friendly and helped answer every question we have. these KFC wings are the best wings in all of New Jersey too!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Really excellent food right in Cookman in asbury. Parking in asbury is a nightmare as always but MOGO is worth it for fast casual Korean fusion. The fried chicken sandwich really hits the spot. The person behind the register was pretty salty but the gentleman who brought our food out was a delight.
google avatar

Stephanie C.

Yelp
It was my first time eating at their downtown location and it did not disappoint! I love Mogo's tacos and usually order them at their boardwalk location during the summer. I got the beef tacos and kimchi fried rice. The tacos were great as always. It was my first time having the fried rice and I really enjoyed it. My boyfriend had the wings and said that they were good. I always had the Fuji hibiscus fresca. It was a nice combination of tart and sweet. The staff were friendly and there were plenty of seats available. They had music playing and I really enjoyed the playlist. I'll definitely be visiting again.

Yelp
We were in Asbury Park taking a nice walk around Wesley Lake and the boardwalk when we saw a sign advertising MOGO. I looked it up and saw that it had rave reviews. We were definitely in the mood for some Korean fusion. So we decided to stop by and grab some fun bites. Parking was challenging. We did eventually catch a break when a car just pulled out as we drove by. By the way, the parking code (33100) here is the same as the Wesley Lake area, so go park in the 33100 zone for your access to the boardwalk. In this way, you consolidate the time you pay when you dine in the downtown area. The inside was clean and trendy. I asked for a menu and proceeded to order 2 beef tacos and 1 beef burrito to go. I was told the total amount due once I was done ordering. That amount was quite a few dollars more than I had expected. So I had to point to the menu to make sure she entered what I ordered. And she did and so I paid. (More on this later) While we waited we realized there's a "pickle bar" in the back where you could help yourself with kimchi, daikon radish, and spicy cucumber. It's super appetizing and a significant part of the experience, so make sure you don't miss it! The order came after a 10-15 minute wait, a bit longer than expected. But the food was well packaged. The tacos were spot on with tasty Korean beef and fresh and colorful veggies. The burrito was exactly the same ingredients, except I added the kimchi rice which was the only negative: the rice was hard and I also realized I could have got the kimchi from the pickle bar without the $1 surcharge. Now back to the menu. After I got home I compared the photos of the menu and receipt and found out the menu prices were outdated. The beef tacos are now $5 instead of $4.50, and the burritos $11.00 instead of $9.50. After I called to confirm my findings, they graciously agreed to refund me the difference.

Yelp
This review is for food, Tacos only. We tried the tacos at a music event. They were... delicious! We had the shrimp taco with pickled red pepper & onion slaw and pork taco with citrus-mayo slaw. Ingredients, flavor, texture created a unique tasting experience. Can't wait to try more.
google avatar

Joanne T.

Yelp
What an amazing spot!! Ordered tacos, wings and potato salad. Was not disappointed. The tacos and wings had a good kick to it. Potato salad was amazing. Great on a warm summer day. No long lines, easy pick up and amazing food.
google avatar

Yelp
Look. I love this place's food. I usually hit the boardwalk stand. And no matter the location, the tip standard on the card reader at 15% sucks. I know I can change it but not when the employee is staring at me. Please, please, they are only taking my order. Notable service. No tip should be outlawed as it's social extortion.

Joseph G.

Yelp
This place is amazing the food is great everything I've had has been better then the last. the customer survive is amazing as well 20/10 overall definitely come here

Yelp
Me and all my boys LOVE MOGO!! If I could live off beef tacos & kimchi fried rice I would. I go almost every weekend at like 2am and the counter people are still super lively (I havent seen the Taco costume guy in a bit). Love the energy at MOGO everythings just great
google avatar

bridgette f.

Yelp
Tofu tacos are the best " healthy"savory vegan bite on the boardwalk. I just wish the tortillas were corn or rice they taste too bready to me , but that's just preference .
google avatar

Kate K.

Yelp
MOGO is so good! I bring everyone here and they always feel the same. They are also open late on weekends so definitely a spot to head to after the bars.
google avatar

Alana S.

Yelp
I haven't been to Mogo in years and the prices have gone way up. Aside from that, everything was just as delicious as I remembered. The kimchi bar was fresh and plentiful. The staff was so helpful and attentive. We found parking right out front and it wasn't busy at all ( Sunday Night). I ordered the pork bowl and it was packed with amazing marinated pork and fresh cabbage slaw on top. We will for sure visit again soon.
google avatar

Lindsey R.

Yelp
This is our favorite lunch when we're at the beach but this was my first time at the actual restaurant. Even better than the taco truck. So many more options! I went with my standard fish tacos. They never disappoint. Also tried the fried rice. A little crispy for my liking but my family enjoyed it. They have jones soda on tap- kids loved that! They also have some tables outside for nice days
google avatar

Brian W.

Yelp
Very good first experience, easy to order, super clean, sat outdoors. Following Covid-19 protocols. Ordered beef bowl with veggie fried rice and bottle of water. Food brought out to our table. Nice presentation, all fresh, lovely flavor. Enough for a pre dinner quick lite shared snack.

Chelsey B.

Yelp
This is my Go-TO spot! I love the food! I'm new to Jersey so never had anything like it. Every time I try something new on the menu I don't regret it! The Bilbao burger is great! So is their customer service! They accommodated for me when I asked for a fried egg instead of sunny side up (I hate runny eggs ) Employees are always smiling and helpful and it's always a chill vibe at this place. 10/10 the employees need a raise! lol
google avatar

Tamara B.

Yelp
Just writing this review has my taste buds waking up! The Mogo team surpasses it each day- from the kimchi to cucumber spicy salad and the fried rice, a Mogo taco, bowl or burritos is the food you want after a late night- to get get senses working! The Shrimp taco is my favorite- plump shrimp and add on the kimchi. Kids get the bowls with Chicken and hubby loves the beef burrito with fried rice. A full flavor bomb. Don't forget the Korean doughnut with ice cream. Nah, not kidding. Super space- bright tables and high tops to scope out the beautiful people of Cookman Avenue. Forget Brooklyn. Asbury for the win.
google avatar

Andrea A.

Yelp
Whether it's here at the flagship or the pop up on the boardwalk, MOGOs is an Asbury must. Yes the corn is great, the kimchi fried rice is great, and all the added pickled things are great but this is all that matters so here it is: Tacos ranked best to worst: Beef ***** Pork ***** Chicken **** Fish *** Shrimp ** Vegan *
google avatar

Sofia S.

Yelp
OMG THIS PLACE IS AMAZING!!! I had the Korean Esquites and shrimp bowl and it was so good. Something unexpected but a new favorite. I def recommend!!!
google avatar

Christina C.

Yelp
As part of a food tour around Asbury, this was one of my favorite stops. Had a sample of the pork taco and kimchi fried rice. If I went back for a full meal I'd order this again but not pictured was the street corn that I tried from someone else in my group. I would 10/10 order a side of the corn. Amazing flavors all around and can't wait to go back. I loved the atmosphere in that it was a non pretentious and quick grab and go but also comfortable seating in case I want to stay!
google avatar

Veronica K.

Yelp
Oh MOGO, don't ever change. I make the pilgrimage to MOGO at least once a year, because their food is so delicious. If you're not feeling like braving their stand on the boardwalk then I would absolutely recommend the location on Cookman street. This location is the only one offering kimchi fried rice, which is one of their best offerings. Did you know there's also a secret menu? I didn't! But now that I do I can tell you that the Hiro burrito is phenomenal (it's huge and has three kinds of meat). Anyway, I'm glad to see this franchise standing strong. They're one of the best things about Asbury Park and totally worth the hour and a half drive I make just to get some tacos and burritos.
google avatar

Desiree D.

Yelp
MOGO is more than just that taco shop on the boardwalk in asbury park. Clean off the sand on your ass and head over to home base. Their menu is much bigger, and not to mention, they have more hot sauces and flavors or kimchi! Fast service and easy pick up during covid. I highly suggest the tofu taco, kimchi fried rice, potatoe salad, bulgogi beef burrito and korean donut. honorable mentions, fish taco, chicken taco, esquites. My man has never tried korean food (GASP!), but he got the bulgogi burrito and now he is a true fan of the korean beef. Myself and friends have tried the kimchi fried rice and were begging for more, every damn time. its chruncy, dry, but spicy and seasoned well. the korean donut is so good too! surprisingly the tofu taco is my fave taco versus the fish. i felt the fish taco doesnt always come through. the potatoe salad had chrunchy apples in it, which i love because the sweet and tart flavors of the apples peak through against the mayo and the thick potatoes.
google avatar

Laura R.

Yelp
Never had a bad shrimp taco from here. Love the crunchy veggie rice. The fountain drinks are super fun. The Korean doughnut is tasty. Kimchi bar adds a little something extra. Get the frequent flyer card and get a discount. Folks that work here are always pleasant and quick.

Yelp
So I was really excited to try this place but I was very disappointed. This is something very new that I was trying & i'm always down to try something new at least once. I had a cheesesteak which had the description spicy ribeye with Cojita cheese. That kind of cheese is usually refreshing on tacos and still crumbly but when you put it on top of a hot cheesesteak it becomes more curd like I was not happy with that end result and could not finish the sandwich. From my understanding it was a Korean and Latin fusion fast food place. The steak was not spicy and if I knew it had sweet notes to it I would not have ordered a sweet cheesesteak so for starters I just wish that this was advertised better. And then I had a bowl and it was vegetable fried rice and look really bland at first I thought it was just white rice until I saw peas. Next I had a potato salad with my cheesesteak as well- it had absolutely no flavor salt pepper nothing. That was extremely disappointing. Lastly I had The desert was written on the menu as a fried donut. So I was expecting donut like consistency but as I was eating it it tasted like fried mochi So I wasn't sure if it was under done until I asked one of the waitresses and she explained that they use some sort of rice flour so it has mushy consistency. Also I had wanted lettuce and tomato on my cheesesteak I'm not really sure if they had charged me extra but I didn't end up saying anything - But I never got it how I ordered it. The lady that took our order was nice though and she let us try all the different frescas that they make housemaid every day... unfortunately I checked in after I paid so I didn't get the one from Fresca that yelp offers once you check in. Cheap place if you want to give it a try tho! Worth a shot like I said always try something at least once!

Yelp
Food was good and very fresh! The homemade Daikon was amazing. Some of the tacos had too much sauce and others not enough. The pear hot sauce was very good and added flavor to everything I put it on, pretty decent kick too. The kitchen fried rice was cooked well, but I didn't think it really tasted like kimchi, and the potato salad with apples was such a pleasant surprise (great crunch!). They also have a loyalty program you can join to get free food. Our meal did come with a side of spicy cucumber, but the cukes were so soggy that we didn't use them.
