Silver Lake’s style bellwether curates cult labels and its in-house line with a clean, California sensibility. Consistently recommended by fashion media and praised by the Los Angeles Times for steadfast independence.

Rude service, poor communication- they have a 7 day return policy so absolutely do not plan on buying any gifts here. All around horrible. Have a nice day :0

Yelp
When you walk in you are greeted and feel welcomed! The merchandise is beautiful displayed beautifully and easy to look through as the racks they aren't overcrowded The prices were easy to find for the most part! I felt the sales help in the men's store to be much better than the women's, but they were both friendly and left you alone to shop. The only downside for me was the fact that nobody explained that there were other sizes in the back if you needed a different size than you found on the rack. I just learned recently that they keep the smallest size displayed in the store. Well, I've been there so many times and never knew that! I wanted to try on a pants and the sales person took me to the dressing room, giving me pants in a size 2 when I wear a large size obviously....they don't work on commission and maybe they should, they might work harder for you to get a sale!

Yelp
The store itself is not bad, however, I won't be returning. I've shopped there a few times in the last several months there has been constant yelling from the oil changing place across the street. Loud, male, aggressive yelling, for no apparent reason. Mohawk has apparently decided to do nothing about it. It is unsettling and makes for a poor shopping experience. I talked to another customer outside and he said the same thing. We could hardly converse over the unnecessary bellowing. Mohawk should really look into that, especially on behalf of their female customers.

Yelp

Yelp
7 day return policy? Are you joking? Nice over priced stuff but where have you ever seen such a crazy short return period???? Not gonna shop here again after my gift card

Chief L.

Yelp
You walk in and no one cares to greet or seem happy to help. I asked to try on some boots and dude just gave me one shoe. All interactions felt like they didnt want to interact with me. Also I was not asked if I needed help either. Bought something and turns out that you can't get. Refunded. You only get store credit and you can't purchase online or anything on sale. Yeah never coming back here ever again.

Yelp
Favorite Boutique in LA. Service is chill. The fashion is to die for. I wish they got skirts fo men more often. The world is changing and the designers know that.
google avatar

Nathan C.

Yelp
Everything is expensive as hell and more for current fashion trends instead of making you look good. Lots of oversized clothes and little to no backup size options. Trendy in the worse sense possible.

Emily C.

Yelp
Why can't they say hello? So weird. Lovely store but lacks very bare minimum of customer service 101 - simply acknowledge customers when they walk in your door. I thought it was a one-off, but went in again - not even eye contact, and I've heard from numerous friends they experienced the same thing. What's the deal? Are you just too cool?

Yelp
Just leaving an updated review for some of my favorite small businesses in Los Angeles while I have time during the current stay at home order. This place has evolved a lot over the years. I should have updated this review some time ago. I've come to appreciate this place. And I guess I'm a semi-frequent shopper here now. Nicely curated. They tend to cycle through stock frequently enough that it doesn't feel as stale as other small fashion boutiques this size can. Staff is friendly and helpful without being intrusive while you're browsing.

M D.

Yelp
A horrible place for horrible people. I have shopped here a few times over the past few years. I have tried giving them the benefit of the doubt but the customer service, quality of the goods and ambiance is always repulsive. How is the place still around?

Mark R.

Yelp
Hard to feel bad for businesses that can't even acknowledge customers. Two of us (separate customers) walked into the store. No one else was there. The guy sitting at the computer didn't look up, didn't say anything. The other guy and I walked around a bit made eye contact like "wtf?" and both walked out. Guess you don't need paying customers!
google avatar

Tammy T.

Yelp
Limited supply and rather pricy but it's perfect if you are looking for a more indie designer (and not so good for browsing). I went for their annual alley sale (60-80% off) which made things more reasonable (Rachel Comey and Hope Stockholm shoes with each pair $80 or less and a Raquel Allegra shirt for $100). Parking is street only. Drive up a bit further and maybe you will find open curb parking that says 'no parking during school days'.

Yelp
This is a lovely store with attentive staff. I was in here for the first time yesterday. I live on the West side; however, as a major fan of Dries Van Noten numerous people have told me to check out Mohawk General Store as they have their own Dries Boutique for men on the 2nd floor. Hence - yesterday I made the trek to Silverlake. There is only one reason I did not give them 5 stars. It appears they stock Dries Van Noten from a size 48 (Medium) to a size 52 (XL-kinda). I wear a size 46 in shirts, jackets and pants. I wear a size small in tee shirts/sweaters with Dries Van Noten. They had absolutely nothing to fit me? Opening Ceremony, Maxfield's and Barneys all stock size 46 Dries. All 3 do well with the line in a 46 so I know my size is common. Having a size 30 waist is really no oddity in Los Angeles - or is it? I hope their buyers see this Yelp review.

Yelp
Fraud Alert: While visiting Los Angeles, I purchased a pair of pants which needed to be returned. Mohawk only offers store credit, and I verified at the time that I could use the credit online. Within 24 hours, I tried to use the "gift card" and it was inoperable. I wrote to Mohawk and explained the problem. They said that the gift card could not be used online, but could be converted to an online gift card. I said "OK" and that's the last I heard from them. They have my money, and the merchandise and I have nothing. I have given them a 24 hour ultimatum before involving the police. Beware!

Yelp
I brought my girlfriend in here to find an outfit for next weekend. It's a cute store with a couple of nice girls working. Alicia helped us with our selection, she was bubbly, personable and a big help to us. I got out of there without spending a fortune and the girlfriend was happy. Win win

We had a quick peek last this groovy looking clothing store as we walked back to our car.

Yelp
Earlier this week, I was on a work trip to L.A. and while walking through the neighborhood, decided to check out Mohawk. I wasn't greeted but thought the staff just generally didn't say hello to customers. I drooled over the beautiful Isabel Marant boots, long pleated Issey Miyake skirts and dresses, and especially coveted a pair of buttery olive green Samuji leather gloves. Then I noticed the staff said hello to two white women who came in separately. Mind you, I wore a Rick Owens leather jacket that day (if you work in fashion, you know one when you see it). I also happen to be Latina. Make of this what you will. It's pretty obvious to me.

Sofia L.

Yelp
No return policy for anything discounted! Spend your money somewhere else. If you buy the wrong size online (which IMO is a necessity during Covid), you're stuck with a item you will never wear and probably spent a lot of money on. Don't make the same mistake I did, there are plenty of other businesses selling the same clothing with reasonable return policies.
google avatar

Angelica C.

Yelp
Great merchandise! They carry Acne Studios, issey miyake, and other hard to find designers. The store is definitely expensive, but that's expected. The pretentious and rude staff made it difficult for me to go all out and spend $$$. I bought stuff for myself, but I rather take my money elsewhere....

Yelp
Amazing. I've long been a fan of Mohawk General Store, in fact, ever since it was actually ON Mohawk. And I've followed Kevin and Bo Carney as they moved into Sunset Junction, bringing with them an incredibly curated selection of clothing, music, vintage hi-fi equipment, books and magazines, candles, accessories and more at Mohawk General Store. So when I heard that Kevin had moved the men's section a few doors down, needless to say I was excited to see what he put together. I finally got in there yesterday. The new space is gorgeous, cavernous even. A perfect muted Navy Blue wall runs the length of the space, counterpoint to warm wooden floors and an abundance of white. And it has Kevin's singular taste and passions played out for all to share: art and fashion magazines like Apartamento and Habitus, great leather goods, camera straps, grooming supplies from Baxter, vinyl records that are as likely to have been in DJ Harvey's crate as they are Larry Levan's. And the clothing. Oh, man. I saw Engineered Garments, Tellason, Gitman Bros Vintage, Dries Van Noten, nonnative, MHL by Margaret Howell, Our Legacy, Industry of All Nations.... The clothing is well-presented, too. I felt like I could really get to the heart of each line's story and see it without too much background interference. It is a peaceful, contemplative way to shop. I love it. To top it all off, a pair of gleaming white Altec horn-loaded sits high above the rest of the store, washing the store in the warm sound of vinyl from a vintage Thorens turntable. As I see the changes Sunset Junction is undergoing, some of them working better than others, it is businesses like Mohawk Man, true to the creative and independent spirit of Silver Lake, that keep me in love with my area. Bravo!

Yelp
This place always has hard to find treasures. I recently had my sunglasses stolen while coming back from Mexico. I was distraught, but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Mohawk had the best looking sunglasses that fit my face I've ever tried. The employees are all friendly, and super helpful. It's expensive, but I love this place.

Yelp
I used to turn my nose up at the clothing when I was younger, cause it all seemed very "rich hip forty something" to me. Now I guess, I'm a striving hip forty something so it began to work. I am a regular at many of the "curated" (sorry, hate that word) online stores as well, and Mohawk General Store is as good a collection as exists out there for the more affordable, wearable designers. As a small store, sometimes having the right size is an issue. I found the staff helpful--at both stores. They helped me to pick out a flattering outfit but didn't push anything on me. To the negative reviews based on the (racially diverse) staff, I note people always take their class and social status anxieties out on the poor sales people. As if Dries Van Noten himself were standing in judgment of their lack of style and limited credit. It's true that shopping in a fancy store can push the buttons of self-worth--I feel that too. We've all heard stories of snooty salesperson refusing to show Oprah a scarf, but really....unless that has actually happened to you, I think you can just shop and not worry about it.

Yelp
My friend Daniel lives in Minnesota and he drove to silver lake a few months ago with his wife, 2 daughters (Silva and Seyka). His wife had started following a "Instagram Influencer" a few years ago and she kept getting exposed to the lake of silver in California. She would lie in their bed at night scrolling through her phone and anytime this influencer would post something she would flash it in front of Daniel's face to get him curious about this city. He one time called me when I was on my break and said that his wife flashed her phone in front of his face 16 times the night before and he would wake up in panic. He knew it was time to make her dreams come true and take a family trip. He knows that's I've traveled quite a bit so he asked if I had any recommendations when they were in Silver Lake, LA. I first asked when he's planning on going so I could recommend places that would only compliment the weather and quickly realized that I was going to be in New Orleans around the same time he was planning this trip so I would come and meet them for the weekend. They decided to drive because they knew their girls would not do well in high altitude on a plane. I got myself a hotel room in Santa Barbara without really thinking much about the distance to where Daniel and his family are staying. I rented myself a nice vehicle though so it made the drive nice. We went to lunch in Silver Lake and daniel's wife was so eager to take photographs of all the food and architecture. She would post it all over her instagram and tagged that influencer hoping that she would notice and come meet her at her next location. After lunch we wanted to walk around the city a little bit because we all ate way too much and had what felt like balls in our belly. We were strolling by a few mom & pop shops and noticed the store front of Mohawk's was really simplistic but artistic at the same time. We all agreed to step foot inside and you know how they say "it was love at first sight"? That's how myself and Daniel felt in here. The product assortment was nothing short of the most elite luxurious and innovative items. The leather goods smelled like they were just freshly made from my granddaddy's farm. They had everything of the sorts from clothing, accessories, home goods, beauty products, Home repair tools and type writers. I could have been in there for a minimum of 7 hours and would still feel like there was so much to explore. The staff was going above and beyond with their service and offered me water with lemon, a complimentary hat and candle if I made a purchase of $285 or more and free valet. I recommend this store to everyone but please beware that you will need to commit your whole entire day to this place because well, they deserve it and so do you.

Yelp
Nice selection of jewelry, accessories, home goods and clothing as well--great place to purchase thoughtful and unique gifts for friends, family or yourself. But I'll never be spending my money here again. I spent over $600 at MGS on something I've had my eye on for a while. I wish I could have bought it elsewhere & supported another small business. I had a pleasant experience with the web manager however which is one of the reasons I'm choosing to keep my purchase, but I will not return to this store again until a more professional staff is hired. The staff/shop girls here are so boorish and uncouth. Do you have to remind them they're working retail? These are adult women, probably in their mid-thirties, or even older, whose brain cells are fighting to put the words customer and service together. They are grossly unaware of how to retain customers, it makes me believe they don't care about meeting any sales goals.
google avatar

M.T. W.

Yelp
Awful customer service. I came in to purchase a gift, and was ignored by the pretentious staff. When I requested a little help, one of the employees rolled her eyes and reluctantly walked over to me with a very curt, negative attitude. She made me feel very uncomfortable and as if I was burdening her by asking if they had more sizes in a sweater. This is supposed to be a retail store, not some high school snob club.
google avatar

Matt P.

Yelp
They have great merch. I've bought cool furniture, clothing, accessories and jewelry here. It's a tasteful, well-culled affair. So the reason 3 stars and not 5 is that if you were to make a Portlandia-style show lampooning painfully-hip Eastside yupster grotesquerie -- you'd be insane not to just set it right here. That's how suffocatingly pretentious the vibe of this store is. And I'm not one to chafe against bougie creative-class hipster memes. I live for that shit. But Mohawk just takes it to an absurd next-next-level. It's like the "chill" 2013 Silver Lake version of the shop Julia Roberts gets snubbed at in Pretty Woman. And yet the next time I need to get a unique necklace for my girlfriend, or a new wallet, perhaps an artisanal candle... fuck me, this is the first place I'm coming!

Marion B.

Yelp
I love this place. They have a really good selection of hard to find designers. It's truly an outstanding place. The only downside is that it is a bit pricey. I hope that they will start carrying designers that are a little cheaper. This place can truly hurt your wallet.
google avatar

Tery H.

Yelp
They carry a beautiful, yet limited, selection of clothing, but their staff is uninvolved and apathetic.
google avatar

Sam F.

Yelp
Beautifully merchandised store with some really lovely items. But... Reminds me of the blog "Stuff White People Like"... or the Portlandia sketch, "The dream of the 1890's is alive in Portland". Still - it's a good store - just very "aware of its self." And the customer service... leaves a lot to be desired... unless of course you enjoy being treated like a pleb.

Yelp
Matt B. and I first visited Mohawk General Store a long time ago, while walking around Sunset Junction. We browsed the beautiful home goods and accessories, and I told him we should come back if he was ever stumped on what to get me for a gift-giving occasion. The prices put almost everything in the store out of range for impulse buying. Months later we had drinks with some friends, and one girl in the group was wearing these tiny, delicate earrings that looked like thin golden staples. I asked her where she got them and she named Mohawk General Store. I kept those earrings at the back of my mind for several more months, and last weekend, when I still didn't know what I wanted for my birthday, Matt and I went to Mohawk to shop, and to see those earrings in particular. Mohawk is a nice boutique on Sunset, with an appealing front and a great selection of goods. As of recently, the men's store has split off into its own space next door. The women's boutique is lovely, with a cool, almost utilitarian aesthetic and a staff that was, at least when we visited, nothing but pleasant and friendly. I browsed the expensive, tightly curated selection of clothes and accessories, from designers like Dries van Noten, Jenni Kayne, and Comme des Garçons. I spent most of my time looking at the jewelry, and I liked almost all of it. Mohawk carries a pretty unique mix of jewelry designers, but the aesthetic is consistent - clean, unostentatious, with simple but interesting elements of design. I found the staple earrings and ended up getting a slightly different pair by the same designer (Kathleen Whitaker) when the staples were too tiny to even cover my piercings. The ones I got were little gold raised raised bars, sold individually, a bit alarmingly priced at over $100 apiece. I picked them, my husband paid for them, and the sales girl wrapped them nicely while I wandered around a few feet away. The element of surprise is worth a lot less than the perfect earrings, in my opinion, anyway. I've only been inside Mohawk twice, but while I'm not exactly a regular, I like the place quite a bit. It's a great shop to browse and splurge now and then. I'm wearing my new earrings right now, and I have no immediate plans to remove them.

Anastasia J.

Yelp
Wish I could buy everything in here! The selection is so great and the salespeople are super helpful.

Yelp
I first found out about Mohawk General Store through Apartment Therapy. The pictures looked promising and I couldn't wait to venture into this shop and have a look see. Great selection of furniture and home accessories and I loved the jewelry and footwear they had for sale too. They also sell magazines and records. I don't think the "nice staff" was on schedule today as the two girls sitting behind the desk were perusing Urban Outfitters for a new couch and barely looked up at us when we were browsing. And at the time we were the only ones in the store, a feeble "hey" just doesn't cut it when you are clearly not busy. And I've had a couple other friends who have said most of the time they're kind of snooty. *boo* While I think the store is fantastic (love those mid-century shelves the products are displayed on) I thought most of the furnishings were just OK. But, please understand that this is coming from someone who regularly visits flea markets and antique fairs and have seen all very similar things for much much less. A metal magazine holder for $185? Is it designer? Is it flecked in gold? I have the same exact one I got at an antique mall for $25! The shop is well curated and great for those that have lots of extra cash to spend and don't want to go hunting for that perfect teak dining table. Otherwise, peruse the wares, get inspired, and visit the many flea markets instead to score better deals.

Stacy Y.

Yelp
I've been to the Sunset store a handful of times over the years, usually when I've had an event coming up and was ready to spend big. The men and women who work there are so incredibly rude in a way that is almost hard to believe. Not just by clustering together and ignoring you completely; they act horrified if you do ask a question as simple as "where can I find this?" and can barely deign to answer. It's like a parody of an LA boutique. They're Pretty Woman-level rude. This happens without fail every time I've been there, and I'm clearly not the only one. There are plenty of boutiques in LA where you can spend money on the labels they stock and not feel like a monster just for breathing their air. Do yourself a solid and spend that money somewhere else.

Yelp
With only two days to saunter around LA, I made sure to put this place at the top of my list. I'd been a steady visitor to the online store, so it was quite a treat to visit in person. Fantastic curating of goods - a great selection without being too minimal or too gaudy. The staff were quick to assist me and provided the experience I'd hoped for. Many kind words spread on to the Bay Area.
google avatar

Ariana B.

Yelp
Everything is expensive here but it's stuff that's hip in that interesting yet classic way. Choose investment pieces to get bang for your buck. Or spend up on a treat to help get over that shitty thing your ex did the other day. The staff were amazingly sweet and down to earth. We talked politics and economics. Very unexpected as I had imagined when I walked in sweaty from a local hike, I was way out of place and should have really left my sweaty self outside with the traffic.

Yelp
I have been wanting to pay a visit to this place for quite sometime. Finally made it this past Saturday and right before closing time too! First thing that caught my eye was Monocle magazines (though it wasn't the latest issue on stands). Then I saw gorgeous Kelly Lamb candles and started sniffing. Then sniffed around some more and found CDG wallets in the back (looks like all the good ones are already gone). Made my way to the girls section on the left side and saw Rachel Comey tops and sandals, Hansel from Basel polka dot bag (handles were too short for my liking so didn't purchase), and Aeosop hand lotion. I sniffed around the men's section too and found Baxter of California grooming treats but noticed they didn't have as much stock as Poketo did (another shop that stocks Baxter of CA). I didn't end up buying anything but will stop by again when I'm in the area. I feel like it's a hit or miss with items in the store but hopefully next time I'll snag something super cute!

Cassie C.

Yelp
I've only shopped Mohawk General Store online, and it's been a great experience every time. I love the diverse selection and the designers they carry. I also love the androgynous styles and the way they pair items together. My packages always arrive neatly packed and it is apparent this store takes great pride in the items they select and ensure the customer feels that as well.

Yelp
Not sure what it is about this store and the one in SF. I was super excited to check out this location. However, as I feared, we were greeted with the same snobbish attitude as the one in SF. My sister and I walked in and the first associate to see us was the Caucasian lady with short kinda curly hair. She didn't say hi. Nothing. She just looked at us with judging eyes because I'm sure we didn't fit the type of typical shoppers. The Asian girl that did work there was nice enough to ask if I needed a room to try on the blouse I had in my hand. In the end, it was a very uncomfortable shopping experience. I decided to just stop looking and walk I came in with intention to shop, but would rather not give my money to a place where some of the workers judge a book by its cover. Judging by all the other reviews I have read, I'm not the only that has experienced blatant attitude because I don't fit the clientele they may be looking for. Just because I may have been dressed a certain way doesn't mean I didn't have money to spend. I was carrying around an LV bag for starters, but guess that wasn't good enough. Guess the owners or management don't really care enough to address this with their staff. Eh well. I'll take my money elsewhere next time.
google avatar

Joel M.

Yelp
Yeah, no. Great collection of beautiful, well-made things, much like the great collections of beautiful, well-made things at similar shops. The problem is their people. The pretentiousness would be funny if it weren't so off-putting. Mohawk - yo sh!t ain't that exclusive. There are many, many places in town offering a similar milieu. In Silver Lake alone you can throw a rock and hit a shop that buys from the same wholesalers. Most of these shops don't act like you have a skunk in your back pocket when you ask a question. I'd have dropped some serious coin at MGS but for a better service experience. Instead I'll be pointing my plastic and my scrilla and my recommendations elsewhere.
google avatar

Jose G.

Yelp
This is a great store. Love the boutique feel. The store has a very welcoming and warm feel to it. The guys are all very knowledgeable of their product which is always a plus. I was pleasantly surprised to see some really unique brands been carried at this store. Will definitely keep going back.
google avatar

Shannon A.

Yelp
Kickass collection of men's designers with an entirely separate store just for menswear. Among their designers are Dries Van Noten, Acne Studios, and Le Maire to name a few. The man that I worked with was massively helpful and patient and really knew the brands. To top it off the store is big and beautiful, and wasn't too crowded when I was there. Definitely on my list of places that I'll be returning to the next time I'm in LA.
google avatar

Kimberley G.

Yelp
Update: only carry tiny sizes. It's very unfortunate, I've stopped shopping there. OMG! I love this place! It's so pretty and lovely and the employees are happy and helpful and it's right in the heart of Silverlake. Things to Love: Lots of great Men's stuff, jackets, shirts, T's Great, masculine interior decorations Lovely, simple clothes for women Small selection so you don't have to rummage Pretty Jewelry Random small things that make great gifts Lovely scented candles Just go there

Yelp
I moved to San Francisco last year and Mohawk General Store is one of those places I really miss. I stumbled onto it after some browsing at Sirens & Sailors next door and WOW, I was blown away. Their jewelry and handbags, in particular, are standouts for me. The two rings and Clare Vivier messenger bag I bought there are regular staples in my wardrobe. Nothing here is cheap, but the prices are very reasonable for the quality/uniqueness you get. Oh yeah, and the owners are super down-to-earth and helpful! They seemed to "get" my personal style and suggest just the right things without being pushy.
google avatar

Tony D.

Yelp
The store has a great assortment of menswear and home furnishings. I had heard good things about Mohawk in GQ and Dwell, so I made a trip over there on a Saturday. The staff was friendly. They obviously spend a lot of time acquiring unique brands and furniture. My favorite part of the store was the tie display rack.
google avatar

Liz L.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this cool place on a Saturday morning while just wandering around the junction. I was pleased to find so many pieces of gorgeous clothing, accessories, and furniture! The place is small but has some great unique things that you won't find anything similar to in the general area. However, these are definitely pieces that you'll be spending a pretty penny on. I would recommend this to any casual browser, as well as anyone with a fat wallet.
google avatar

Marc C.

Yelp
Inflexible returns policy. Product purchased was faulty. Granted I didn't have my receipt, and we're talking about a low cost item here, but the point is I felt gypped and undervalued as a repeat customer. I've spent a not inconsiderable amount of money there. Will never shop at mohawk again.
google avatar

Dan N.

Yelp
Great store with very nice gifts for men if you have some money to spend. I've gotten a shirts here for my guy from Levi's Vintage, Our Legacy, etc. All clothes have been super soft and high quality. They have a wonderful selection and the dudes who work here are easy going and helpful. I love that you can get things gift wrapped next door for free too. Always glad to shop here for something special. Cool sunglasses, belts, hats, slippers, shaving items, and more.

J A.

Yelp
Very cool store with artfully curated pieces for men, women, and home. The staff is absolutely awful to the point of comedy. I would love to spend money supporting small boutiques in my amazing neighborhood but the dipshits that arrange candles all day and ignore clients is laughable. Whoever owns this place, take a cue from the boutiques up and down Sunset and try to hire well-mannered functioning human beings.

AJ B.

Yelp
I've been a casual customer of this store since they first opened but the service has always been a problem. Still, I've continued to recommend the store to friends... ...until yesterday... My girlfriend purchased a pair of Rachel Comey shoes and then, a mere hour and a half later, had second thoughts. She went to return them, still in the box and bag, and was then informed that they don't accept returns...period. This is contrary to what their website states and is not displayed anywhere in the store besides the receipt you receive AFTER you've purchased your item. They eventually took the shoes back but only after embarrassing her to the point of tears. That sort of snide bullying from a local independent store breaks my heart. What's the point? And it seems as though a few other Yelp reviewers have had similar experiences. If someone makes a return or exchange they still deserve to be treated like a customer. Apparently some of the staff at Mohawk General Store don't feel that way.
