The Mohawk Valley Gateway Overlook is a beautiful bridge stretching 511 feet over the Mohawk River. There are scenic and picturesque views to be had here. The bridge features unique art exhibits that depict the history of the Mohawk Valley and Amsterdam. The bridge also connects to Riverlink Park which also offers unique beauty.
As you walk along you will notice twelve stopping points which describe the history of the region. In the middle of the bridge there are rounded patterns which depict six different neighborhoods of Amsterdam. As you move further along you will also notice deck patterns with trees and flowers. Near the northern overlook there is a large rounded story marker depicting the past and future of Amsterdam. Finally, it is hard not to mention the unique sculptures depicting elements of the Mohawk River along the bridge.
The bridge is connected to a larger walking and biking trail called The Chuctanunda Creek Trail which is 8 miles long and goes through the city of Amsterdam. You can also simply park near either side of the bridge and walk over it and enjoy the scenery. Overall, this is a great way to get out and enjoy Amsterdam and the Mohawk Valley.
