Google
Truly a 5 star place on everything! Great space to work/study, read, hang with friends- you name it. Free wifi & outlets, super friendly service, great food/drink options. Ample indoor and outdoor seating, half the room having wooden tables/chairs and half being more comfortable and cushioned. I saw a fair amount of people working on laptops or papers when I came in but also some friends just chatting and lounging together so the space is really set up for both, which is nice. Also great for working if you want to sit down and stay at a place for a while or stay late- it’s open until 9:30pm every day!! In my experience, there were less people as the day crept toward later evening. The interior is beautiful and a whole vibe. I never drink coffee but the iced mohka house latte I got here was super yummy and I’d get it again. I’d also recommend the puffy honey bread with cream cheese (both pictured). Nut allergen warning- there are a lot of nuts, especially in the desserts, but the staff was good about checking and communicating with me around this.

Google
Immaculate vibes. We ordered a pot of Adeni chai and some Khaliat al’nahl and enjoyed the ambiance. Highly recommend for an authentic Yemeni experience.

Google
Insanely high quality adeni / karak tea. And yummy pastries and sweets. Nice peaceful, well designed space to hang out in. Friendly service as well. Flawless execution. If this place were in Manhattan it would have lines to get in.

Google
First time here and it's my new favorite cafe. Lovely and lively atmosphere. Yemeni and Turkish pastry, sweets, coffee, tea. They have many clearly labeled vegan and gluten-free items. Staff was friendly and the vibe was perfect for meeting friends, working, or studying. Also plenty of outlets and good wifi!

Google
Been here twice in the last week for pot service. First time was during the day on a Saturday. Although busy, we managed to find a table to enjoy our 18 oz Yemeni tea, which was delicious! It was infused with cardamom and nutmeg. We also had the veggie quiche (no pic), a little runny in the center, but the overall taste was very good. The second visit was tonight, a Thursday evening around 7:45p. We ordered the 18 oz Qishir, a coffee husk tea and caffeine free. Quite interesting, dark and on the bitter side. My friend did not like it, so I ended up enjoying it on my own. On both occasions, the gentleman behind the counter was very helpful with all of our questions regarding the drinks and pastries. It gave him great pleasure to ensure our experience was positive! Looking forward to going back and trying more of their menu!!

Google
They are so nice here. The chocolate chip tahini sesame cookies are so good. I can’t resist getting one every time I come. I love the couch seating. Great place to come for a meeting or to get some remote work done. Highly recommend. 4 hours free parking in the lot on the backside.

Google
Love this local gem. The staff are so friendly and helpful. The desserts are divine. The coffee is excellent and they also offer tea pot service. So glad they are in the neighborhood!

Kate K.

Google
Came here for the first time today and it was so lovely! The food and drinks were all delicious. And all three staff I interacted with were super friendly. One star off on atmosphere bc it was kind of loud inside and the indoor seating isn't great for fat folks but the benches and atmosphere outside in the parklet were perfect.
google avatar

Yelp
Parking is pretty tough, but it's worth it for the service and atmosphere. The folks at the counter are super nice, and there are so many cozy places both inside and outside to sit, work, read, talk, and eat. For those who stay, they have many different pastries and pot service. Their honeycomb bread (warmed) and Adeni chai are both excellent, and yes - their drinks are hot because they literally prepare them fresh on the stovetop.
google avatar

Yelp
I would come here just for the service. I'm going to keep coming back until I find a drink I love because I like this place so much. It's a hidden gem in the Fruitvale. I've tried the ginger milk and the Adeni chai. They were both okay. Actually, they're probably pretty good it is just that I have particular tastes. I drank both completely. You won't regret spending time here.

Yelp
Always great service. Community location. Coffee is good. Vibe is better. 2 full cases of middle eastern pastries. The coffee is HOT. Be careful.
google avatar

Eric H.

Yelp
The staff is very nice, the coffee is good and so are the smoothies. It's a nice place to hang out, sip coffee and get computer work done or read a book, it's a bit noisy and gets busy but the decor is eclectic and beautiful, I recommend checking it out !

Yelp
Staff was friendly. Got a mini baklava and a slice of their honey comb bread warmed up to eat. Cute interior with padded sofas and tables and chairs. The coffee and milk tea pots looked really good too, will have to try it next time. Honey comb bread is def better warmed up. Lots of honey. Very unique flavor. The baklava was pretty sweet and fresh.

Yelp
Came here during work and the drinks are amazing. Place is clean and nice . Place does get busy so come early food is great as well but the cakes are okay . The workers are so nice . Will be coming again

Yelp
Walked over for a morning latte with my husband while in town visiting friends. I had the house latte which was the perfect amount of sweet and spice. The latte art was beautiful! We both shared the pistachio and walnut baklava which were both outstanding! A very unique Yemeni spot and the man working was extremely friendly and drinks came out quick and hot. We already plan to go back tomorrow.

Yelp
This cute neighborhood Yemeni coffee shop is really a gem here in Oakland. I came here to grab some coffee and pastries for friends and it was definitely a treat dropping by. Their Mohka House Latte was a fragrant blend of cardamon and cinnamon. They offer non-dairy options such as oat milk which was perfect for me. The latte was made very well and I don't think coffee very often, and even I was able to really enjoy the drink. I loved seeing so many vegan friendly options as well. Their chocolate chip cookie was divine with sea salt and sesame, and easily sharable too. They had a very other vegan friendly options that were also clearly marked. I'd love to drop by again to really enjoy the space. It is gorgeous inside and one I think they should be very proud of for doing.

Yelp
Great coffee!! Wonderful employees, and a beautiful array of pastries to try! This place hits the spot. Awesome place to study, work, and even play chess. The music plays lightly in the background, and makes you feel like you're somewhere else.
google avatar

Yelp
Snacks, good coffee, nice ambiance inside, plenty of outdoor seating, good hours, what's not to love?
google avatar

Anna C.

Yelp
Came here for a latte and a pastry. The latte was more of a watered down black coffee, tasted a little burnt. I also got a meat pastry, which was very tasty and fresh made. I'd probably skip the coffee, but the pastry selection is pretty amazing.

Yelp
Mohka House is a cute spacious cafe that offers Yemeni goods located in Oakland. Street parking is the only option so parking is a bit more sparse since it is surrounded by multiple businesses. There are lots of seating and tables available inside, however I would say that the cafe is definitely more on the quiet side. It may not the most appropriate setting to catch up with a friend as there are many people working or studying. There was only one gentleman working who was very welcoming and kind. When I saw adeni chai on the menu prior, I knew I had to stop by. In simplest terms, I would describe it as a milk tea with spices. There is pot service which I thought was super cool, as it is served over a candle to keep warm. I got the 26oz pot and wish I would've gotten the 34oz. It was sweet and flavorful. I tried a couple of the baked goods but my favorite was the honeycomb bread. It was sweet and savory. I also enjoyed the leek and parm pastry which was just savory. The mini baklava was unfortunately insanely sweet-- and this is coming from someone that enjoys sweets. It was difficult to eat due to how sweet it was. I would return in the future for the adeni chai but skip on the baked goods as the adeni chai is a good enough sweet tooth fix.

Yelp
Wow! This cafe has everything: delicious food and drinks, fast service, sweet and kind employees, and atmosphere for *days.* I brought my foodie partner, who has lived for long periods of time in the Middle East, to this cafe and he was equally impressed. We're not big coffee drinkers, so we had a pot of Yemeni chai served in a beautiful teapot at the equally beautiful sofa area. It was lovely. We've sampled all of the pastries at this point. They are all *dynamite*, but we still dream of the honeycomb bread.
google avatar

Michal C.

Yelp
Coffee drinks here are excellent and the cafe has a great vibe. It's a great place to talk to friends, read a book or work (free internet works well).
google avatar

Karina B.

Yelp
A top tier place to get some work or studying done. The tables are a good size, the house coffee is not bitter or sour, and the food is 10/10. The workers are really kind and even let me try some new food items out during my visit. I also appreciated their weekend hours going til 9:30pm!!
google avatar

William C.

Yelp
Great vibe and ambiance. Yemeni tea pot is the way to go and a walnut baklava! The service is great and I highly recommend this location!
google avatar

Nicki G.

Yelp
Special place! Beautiful, relaxed atmosphere with unique coffees and teas. Get the unsweetened tea with cinnamon, nutmeg, and cardamom. Then, eat with a sweet (but not too sweet) pastry. Perfect pairing.

Yelp
A friend of mine invited me to try out this place and I'm glad I did. I first walked in and was taken aback by the breathtakingly exquisite decor. I just had to stand and look around for a moment. The music was very soothing, just a beautiful vibe. I talked with the owner Hamza who has a great personality. I ordered the Qishr, which is a non-caffeinated beverage. It was slightly bitter, but a lovely flavor. I enjoyed it on its own and when I added honey. My friend ordered a croissant and Chai, she enjoyed both. I honestly had an incredible experience. The service was excellent, the pastries looked delicious. This is a cafe I could see myself bringing in a book or laptop, but enjoying with friends is fun too. I can't wait to return. When you visit, be sure to ask the history around the name Mohka, it's captivating.

Yelp
What a beautiful space this is and so welcoming! Stopped in Tuesday morning 9am-ish and was in awe of all the flavor choices for both coffee and food. There is tea and many, many options, but I didn't have any on this visit. The flavors are all right up my alley, so it was a no-brainer for me to get the Pot Service of Mofawar - cardamom and cream. Convinced hubby to share the 18oz pot with me. It was absolutely perfect...it stays warm in it's glass serving pot, and one can add sugar to their cup or not. While hubby enjoyed it, he's not as passionate about cardamom as I am, so I drank 3 cups to his 1 cup. Don't get me wrong - he liked it very much, but he would choose a different flavor profile next time. So just for reference, the 18oz pot handily serves 2 and you could possibly squeeze a 3rd person into sharing it...but you won't find ME doing that lol. Additionally we each ordered a slice of Khaliat Alnahl (Honeycomb Bread), with additional honey drizzled on top. Also amazing. The sizes were really big and we thought we'd be taking some home....but nope. We each had no problem finishing our own. The whole space is beautiful with quiet music playing in the background...we sat in the window facing in towards the restaurant and just enjoyed the calming decor, music, and amazing food and drink. As we were leaving both of the young men working in the front were sure to say goodbye and thank us for coming. There are so many great options here that I will absolutely be making this my regular place when I want to treat myself to coffee outside my home.

Yelp
My partner and I popped by for a drink before running errands. Curious to try another Yemeni coffee shop as they seem to be growing in popularity in Berkeley/Oakland. The space is quiet, peaceful, and cozy. A few students studying and working away. However, upon entry, staff were pretty cold and unfriendly. Not as much as a greeting or eye contact. HOUSE LATTE (w/oat milk): Not sure if it's just this type of coffee, but the flavor was a bit unbalanced to us... Tasted like watery milk with bits of cinnamon and spices in it. CARAMEL MACCHIATO (w/oat milk): On the other hand, this was extremely sweet lol. SO much caramel flavoring, hardly any coffee flavor. I had a bit of a headache after this... Maybe we just ordered the wrong things or came in on an off day?

Yelp
This charming Yemeni coffee spot is a great location for coffee dates. During my first visit, I enjoyed a spicy Chai and shared baklava on a comfy couch. I parked around the corner in a lot; parking is definitely tough to find.

Yelp
9/20/24- Ahhh a beautiful and relaxing way to end the day! Son picked this place and big kudos for his choice.. Went with the choc chip cookie, almond and pistachio baklava and the long walnut bar?. Got a pot of the coffee and son got a tea.. Love the presentation and tray with the glass pot.. So glad we stopped in..

Yelp
Loved this place! Came in the morning to get some work done and I was really impressed with the space. It has outlets, great drink and snack options, and a clean bathroom. The guy who took my order, Humza, was very nice and accommodating. I'll be back!
google avatar

Shasha K.

Yelp
This place is so great! The prices are super reasonable for a Yemeni coffee shop - about $5 a drink. The one thing to try here is the honeycomb - it's baked in house and comes with beautiful sesame seeds on top. I love it.
google avatar

Kourtney A.

Yelp
This place is a hidden little gem! It used to be another cafe called Hive, but recently changed over. I was on Yelp (of course!) looking for a coffee shop and stumbled across this place. I was with a coworker and know the area so thought why not. I first went into the restaurant with the same name a couple doors down lol but finally found the right place. It's decorated so cute with both couches and chairs at a table and I love that there are options! I'm a fan of the small menu and they also had some tasty treat options. I got the chai and it was DELISH! We sat at a table and met and it's a nice place to meet or come solo to get work done or relax. It was a cold day so we didn't sit outside, but there's also some small patio space in the front. I will definitely be coming back and I highly recommend!

Yelp
Great coffee and tea. Love the unique warm and cold drinks, middle eastern delicacies

Yelp
Amazing coffee and chai. Love their honeycomb bread and the vibe of the place! Service is prompt and helpful.

Yelp
Looked for a chill eveningspot and this spot is a GEM. You don't go here just for a drink--you absolutely need to get a sweet. The drinks don't have sugar in it (you can add your own) and I love that. I had a chai with walnut baklava and it was perfection. My date got a mocha with a chocolate covered carmelo concoction that was absolutely delightful. We had some extra time and saw a bunch of regulars get tea so we shared a pot of Yemeni tea-- wow. So good I requested to take some home with me. The guy at the register was one of the friendliest and the vibes were so chill. 10/10 returning!
google avatar

Yelp
Great food and service The staff was very friendly. Chill atmosphere and friendly patrons. We will be back soon!

Katie K.

Yelp
We sampled a lot of food, sweet and savory, and it was all delicious. Had the Yemeni tea pot which was good too. The three staff we interacted with were all super friendly. Inside was a bit loud and the chairs aren't fat friendly. But the atmosphere and benches in the parklet were great.

Yelp
It's a local Arabian Yemeni theme coffee shop / tea house. It's clean and decent with very nice decoration with wall prints and decor with both indoor and outdoor seatings. There are many delicious pastries and bakeries and drinks with Mediterranean flavors. They still serve classic/original flavors as well. Service is coffee-shop like order-to-sit-and-clean. There is WiFi to work, study and browse. Good for students, remote workers. Great for groups, kids, seniors, meetup and couples. Free street parking and paid parking available.
google avatar

Mei W.

Yelp
Their coffee is so fragrant and strong! I personally I've their selection of teas, also very fragrant. They have a wonderful selection of delicious baklavas and specialty treats. I've been here several times and just love the food and decor.
google avatar

Nicholas B.

Yelp
The pistachio tres leches is delicious, and all the pastries look amazing. The ambiance is also really nice. They have these wide come up pretty bench couches with adjustable dividers so you can sit in whatever size group you want and still have a small feeling of separation from other groups. Pretty tables, nice decoration.

Yelp
The ambiance was perfect. Service was quick and the selection of food is awesome. Felt like i was in the Middle East in the heart of Oakland.
google avatar

Yelp
The inside of this place was very unique! I liked the cultural flare of the decorations and ambiance. I personally am not a fan of the house coffee in general, so I ordered the mocha with less sugar and it was delightful. So happy with that choice and it came out quickly! We grabbed a few desserts, they were so rich and indulgent. Not sure if I could finish one on my own but it pairs well with coffee and to share with a friend or two. Highly recommend to visit!

Dulama L.

Yelp
Hands down, my favorite cafe. It has a pleasing atmosphere and the beverages and eats are good as well. This is a great spot to meet with friends, get some work done, or just chill and enjoy the vibes.

Yelp
Good tea and pastries! Glad to have this place in Oakland. The honey cake was so so, probably better in the other location.

Yelp
Loved how inviting and comfortable Mohka house is. I don't drink Yemeni/Arabic coffee too often but I really enjoyed my experience here. Came around 2pm on a weekday. Still some open seats. Split a 26oz dallah of Jubani with a friend. To me, the roast as a blend of chai and medium roast coffee. Very strong and earthy with a little spice. Also indulged in a chocolate chip cookie which was very tasty. Would definitely come back!
google avatar

Yelp
Love this coffee shop. The ambience is cute and service is friendly. Yaser made the drinks today and they tasted comforting and amazing, as usual. I always look forward to coming here for breakfast! I Highly recommend!

Yelp
This place is truly remarkable! This has been the best coffee experience I've ever had. Excellent customer service, quality coffee, and a warm and welcoming place. I decided to visit Mohka House after a friend visited, and I couldn't be happier with the experience! The coffee was outstanding--full of flavor and perfectly brewed. The desserts were fresh and delicious, adding a sweet touch to the visit. I also loved how clean and inviting the space was, with a relaxed vibe that made it easy to enjoy the atmosphere. The service was excellent too, with friendly staff who made us feel welcome. I'll definitely be back, and I highly recommend Mohka House for anyone looking for a great café experience!

Yelp
I had heard great things about Yemini coffee and wanted to try this on my way home from SF. The owner or employee must've seen me undecided on a drink haha and he offered me to try the Mofowar he had just made. It was amazing! I ended up ordering an iced Mofowar only because I was craving a cold drink at the time but the hot was delightful too! What an awesome experience would def come back for the Yemeni coffee and pastries!
google avatar

Elise J.

Yelp
I know Oakland has a nice coffee scene and wanted to take my parents to try something new and different. I stumbled upon this Yemini coffee and tea place online and was slightly impressed by the level of positive reviews. My family has tried some of the treats they have here from places in Los Angeles and we're curious how they would stack up. First impression was that it's a very cute coffee shop with some outdoor seating but the inside is quite popular. Lots of little tables that were mostly full. The treats case had an assortment of goodies that were a little pricier than what I'm used to but not crazy for a nice small business. We ordered a bunch of different treats, a pot of the Jubani coffee and the Yemini Tea to share. Both were delicious and our group was split about which one we liked better. I loved how the person who took our order asked how sweet we wanted our coffee. As for the treats we tried almost one of each. The baklava were all pretty standard for us and good. On par with what I've had in the past. The Sabaya and Honey Bread were much easier to share and a bit different from what I've had before. Definitely worth a try. Overall this is a fantastic coffee/tea spot that lives up to the hype. The coffee is affordable and arguably much more of a treat than some place like Starbucks. Being able to have the shared pot experience makes for a special treat that helps this place stand out compared to other coffee shops. The treats are also delicious but small and somewhat tough to share. Absolutely worth a try if you're questioning. I've already recommended this place to family and friends. This place would be perfect for a date or small family or friend visit but probably not big groups.

Yelp
I had such a lovely time here! The chai tea was some of the best I ever had, served in a beautiful glass pot, and the pastry with honey drizzled over was so delicious. A great place to study and have a nice snack and tea!

Yelp
Really enjoyed the authentic Yemenis feel of this coffee shop! The wallpaper makes u feel like ur in Yemen along with the antique tables and colorfully patterned couch we sat in. I ordered the Mohka latte and an assortment of the food. We got baklava, little flat bread with seeds and some pastries. My latte did not come sweet but there is simple syrup u can add on the side. Coffee tastes very healthy and herbal y and i imagine they drink this in Yemen! I enjoyed the vibe as we stopped by this area on the way back from Sacramento. Recommend to check out!

Hagar A.

Yelp
I'm visiting from LA when a friend of mine took me here. The hospitality of the owner and staff is unmatched. Amazing music and cozy set up, brings back memories of home. The baklava and milk chai were my absolute favorite. I can't wait to visit again and come here!

Yelp
Monka House opened where Hive the Place to Bee was. Interior totally refurbished with scenery of what Yemen urban life resembles. Quickly greeted and order filled shortly after entering. Parklet seating outside and table and booth seating inside. Offerings: Yemen tea service, Yemen cakes, Yemen single origin organic coffee, domestic pastries Drink: medium coffee drip roast (5) -smooth, bold taste, lots of body. -forgot to order cake slice... Leftover: -owner was gracious to let me eat a banh mi I got next door. Came here since they didn't have dining area. -soft Yemen instrumentals playing in the background.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this Yemeni coffee house and it was such a great find! The service and staff are so nice and friendly! The decor/ambiance and space is beautiful and open (love the comfy couch seating especially). Free Wi-Fi if you need to get work done. They're open early and close late (7am-9:30pm)! We ordered a Mohka house latte with almond milk and a Jubani coffee. I am not as familiar with the method for making the coffee but the latte tasted less rich/creamy espresso and overall both coffees tasted a bit watered down? However, the spice were nice and aromatic and you can definitely feel the caffeine. We also ordered the honeycomb bread with the honey (warmed up) and it was so yummy! Fluffy, buttery, not too sweet, and more bread to cream cheese ratio (which I personally prefer). All the other pastries and other items in the display looked good too! Recommend checking this spot out!

Alia D.

Yelp
I love this place, it's great for getting some work done or hanging out with friends. I ordered the yemeni iced tea, it's good if you're avoiding sugary drinks, and the hint of spice (cardamom?) makes the favor pop. I also love the beef and chicken fatayer, they're really lovely when they're warmed up. The customer service is warm and welcoming, they were so sweet when my friends had a complicated order for a book club we were hosting. We ordered 3 different pots of tea & coffee, the ginger was my favorite. If you ask for soy instead of whole milk for the big pots, they accommodate that.
