Where to Eat Jewish Cuisine in Montreal | Eater Montreal

"Old-school elegance pervades this classic Jewish steakhouse, open since 1938. Its late-night fixed-price menu, available after 9 p.m. from Thursday to Saturday, is a popular option for the budget-conscious. Every other night of the week, regulars young and old fill the storied dining room, tucking into favourites like chopped liver, verenikas, Monte Carlo potatoes and some of the best steaks in town. Moishes was recently sold to a corporation, but is still family-run." - Heather Vandenengel

Moishes Review - Le Plateau - Montreal - The Infatuation

"Walking into Moishes is like being transported back to the glory days of the steakhouse. At 80 years old, this place is an institution and the rumor that founder Moishe Lighter won the restaurant in a card game only adds to its charm. It’s pretty family-friendly on the earlier side and turns into a pre-clubbing destination for groups thanks to a late night prix-fixe menu ($29 for an appetizer and entree). Get the classics like their Monte Carlo potato, verenikas, chopped liver, and plenty of steak." - Ashley Joseph

The Best Rotisserie Chicken in Montreal | Eater Montreal

"Commonly looked to as an essential steakhouse in Montreal, Moishes also makes a mean “special” chicken. Based on a family recipe, they’re so proud of it that it’s joined the the restaurant’s roster of retail products." - JP Karwacki

"Owner Lenny Lighter, a prince among men in the restaurant industry, has managed to continue the Moishes steakhouse legacy while not sacrificing quality or service. Period tweaks and overhauls of both the menu and the interior proves he still knows what his customers want. Open since 1938." - Tim Forster

This was our second visit to Montreal and our first time visiting Moishes. We actually heard about it from buying the Moishes pickles at a grocery store so when we found out there was a restaurant we had to go. Moishes did not disappoint. Everything was incredible. The food, atmosphere, and service were ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐. We had the Oysters, and the New York Strip. I'd recommend both as they were both amazing. The complimentary bread, coleslaw, and pickes were equally as delicious. Our sides were salad for me and lobster mac n cheese for my wife. Both were amazing. We are adding Moishes to our list of places to visit when we come back to Montreal next year!

I love how this is both a great steakhouse and also an overall unique restaurant by virtue of its side and accompaniments - the Kansas City strip is huge and delicious, and pairs well with the Monte Carlo potato. Bone Marrow is great value too! One gripe was that the price of a highball seemed too high especially since a shot of their plantation rum was only $9, but once added with club soda it became $19…. Otherwise, definitely worth coming and having a refined meal!

Tonight I went to this restaurant for the very first time. This place has a beautiful atmosphere and our waiter Alan was just amazing! He was very friendly and punctual. We had some great conversations with him. He accommodated my every request! I am very happy and a very satisfied customer, I would definitely go back there and of course I would love to be served by Alan 100%

Moishes was a perfect dining experience. The staff attended our every need, was fast and friendly. The food was perfectly prepared. The facilities were well looked after. This is a prefect place to dine out and I would reccomend to anyone for a perfect dinner at a restaurant.

At the beginning, we had a rough start because we had made a reservation and, for some unknown reason, we got the worst table in the restaurant, close to the patio door. We were freezing that day and asked three times before we finally found a good employee who switched us to an amazing spot. The cocktails were 10 out of 10; we tried the Yoopi. Before the main dish, they served us homemade pickles and coleslaw. It might sound like a snack shack dish, but it was 10 out of 10. I think the butter was homemade too because they also gave us bread and butter, and the butter was so smooth—10 out of 10. We took the grill platter afterward. Unfortunately, they don't blanch the fries, so the fries were so-so, but it came with three different dips, which was pretty cool. The king of the platter was the lamb, which was the best lamb I have ever eaten. The short rib was very good, but the chicken was too peppery, which was unfortunate because it was perfectly cooked. The New York steak was the disappointment of the evening. I am used to eating high-end AAA steak, and that was not it at all. Maybe it's me who is too fancy, but I was told it was the best steakhouse in Montreal, and the steak was the weak link, lol. The service is out of this world—they give you a hot towel after supper, plus they have valet service too.

Definitely one of the finest dining experiences I’ve had as far as service, and food standards! All the staff were super friendly and welcoming, we enjoyed steaks and the lobster mac and cheese, very delicious, cocktails were also top tier! Hope to be back soon!

Our first visit to Moishes was influenced by a TikTok video, and it left us with mixed feelings. Service: 4/5 The ambiance was undoubtedly the highlight 4/5. The atmosphere was truly amazing. However, when it came to the food, the Smoked Beef Short Rib, priced at $41, fell short of our expectations, though the Monte Carlo potato had a nice touch, resulting in a 2.5/5 rating. The racks of lamb, at $69 for 3 chops, were disappointingly small and lacked the expected flavor and tenderness, resulting in a 2/5 rating. The Lobster Mac and Cheese at $39 wasn't bad, but it was quite saucy. On the plus side, it had a decent amount of lobster pieces, and the cheese was nicely crispy. While it was decent, we've had better lobster mac and cheese, resulting in a 2.5/5 rating. In conclusion, we're not too eager to return. Our overall experience was a bit of a letdown, which wasn't what we were hoping for.
