Tour the Sacramento Area’s Best Breweries With Rob Archie of Pangaea Bier Cafe | Eater SF

"Specializing in barrel-aged imperial stouts, Moksa Brewing Co. — led by head brewer Derek Gallanosa (formerly of Abnormal Beer in San Diego) — uses oak aging plus spices, fruit, chocolate, vanilla, unique sweeteners, and coconut to build layered flavors; I found their fruit sours and imperial stouts transformed after long oak aging, from the tart, fruit-forward One Million Blueberries to Smells Like C.R.E.A.M. Spirit, an imperial stout aged with port barrel maple syrup, vanilla beans, and coffee that drinks like a dessert wine after roughly 20 months in oak when the ingredients concentrate and coalesce." - Lou Bustamante

moksa (Kyoto, Kyoto Prefecture) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Located at the foot of a sacred mountain and home to Japan’s oldest steam bath, the village of Yase has long served as a retreat for mind and body. Moksa, a modern ryokan-style inn on the banks of the Takano River, taps into the region’s healing powers. The name derives from a Sanskrit word meaning “liberation from earthly cares,” and the hotel’s peaceful spaces, from a quiet tea room overlooking ancient moss gardens to a series of wood-lined saunas available for private bookings, feel like a respite from the world outside. Rooms are silent and minimalist with pale wood paneling, tatami mats, built-in modular furnishings, and sliding paper screens that open to reveal views of the river or the gardens. Three seatings of Japanese and Western-style breakfasts are served at the restaurant, and the Kikyorai lounge offers a selection of teas, craft cocktails, and beer brewed in nearby Kyoto." - Tablet Hotels

Happy World Vegetarian Day: Our picks for the best vegan food in Ubud, Bali - SilverKris

"A multi-concept plant-based venue that combines a culinary academy, yoga and martial-arts dojo with a restaurant fed by surrounding permaculture gardens; expect colourful, seasonal dishes with strong local flavours. All-day breakfast is available but the mains stand out — try the Nasi Goreng Subak (Indonesian curried fried rice served on a plant-based omelette), the chef’s bowl with green curry rice, eggplant, kimchi, braised greens, tempeh “bacon”, tofu “char siu” and sautéed mushrooms, or the showy raw Caprese Ravioli featuring basil pesto, cashew cheese, sun-dried tomatoes in pumpkin dough with tomato coulis, coconut sour cream and nut parmesan. A tempe ribs dish with mashed sweet potatoes, mixed greens and grilled tomato is another highlighted plate." - Cat Woods

One of the top spots in Sacramento area for craft. The stouts here are incredible. The sours are also peak quality too and nice and strong. West Coast IPAs here are pretty high quality comparable to Cellarmaker, Shred and Moonraker. Most of the good stuff is available to go as well. Follow for more brewery recommendations.

Been wanting to visit for years and my first time did not disappoint! Place was spacious and clean and servers were very friendly! Big outdoor patio with tons of covered seating. Inside also lots of seating and a clear menu and descriptions. Only tried a few but there beers were tasty, refreshing and unique especially the slushy and stout. I had to a 4 pack of the light the beam double IPA despite me being a loyal Warriors fan! Lol. Today's on-site taco truck Santacos was fabulous! I'll definitely be coming back next time I'm in the area and I highly recommend anyone else come visit as well. Fun place for kids too. The owner was very friendly and generous!

This my default place to go when I have out of down friends visiting. They have amazing beers and food trucks helping out if one is hungry. The place looks exactly like a brewery does, raw, smells like beer and all the gear showing. I love it! The service is fast and very welcoming. It's a perfect place to chill and enjoy craft beers.

Very lame that they don't sell variety 4 packs, and the staff not willing to work with a customer. Kept using the words price point. Plenty of other breweries that do sell varieties and singles.

I'm in NorCal for work and this Brewery is right down the street from my hotel. I decided to do a flight of the following: Snappy the Lager; New Things Experimental Kolsch; Smugglers Mug Imperial Sour Blonde Ale; and First Crack of Dawn Imperial Stout. Very impressive! I thoroughly enjoyed every pour I sampled. The Smugglers Mug is off the charts amazing! If you find yourself in Rocklin CA with time to spare, please check out Moksa! Great people and amazing brews!

Absolutely loved my first time going to Moksa Brewing Company. My buddy and I decided to camp out for the fourth anniversary event. I made it and got my wristband at number 14. It was only a matter of waiting until opening at 11a, which was a really pleasant experience. This was my first time trying stouts. I will admit they were a bit of an acquired taste but it grew on me, especially the double aged imperial stout (vanilla beans, coconut, and hazelnut). My buddy grabbed a big bottle of that and justly so. The really mature and subtlest notes of the drink stand out even after you've shipped long ago. My first impression of stouts came in line when I tried on that "made me feel like an old man" haha But Moksa made it very pleasant to grow up and refine my palette, so psyched to grab a limited edition banger today (Sunday). Cheers!

Great beers, good vibes with live music on a Saturday night. I was recommended Salutations pastry stout by the beer tender and it was great! Definitely exceeded my expectations.

A 'local brewery' the way a local brewery should be. Relaxed atmosphere, bold and unique beers, friendly staff. Great taco food truck. I wish they brew some more malty browns, reds, ales, stouts. A belgian brew would be a great adder, too. Surely recommend to visit and will come back myself, too.
