Moku Bar recently replaced Samurai Noodle in the Conservatory, Houston's underground beer garden and food hall, in March 2017. When I arrived, I was told to pick up a metal tray with a paper menu and pencil and fill out what I wanted to order. I decided to go with the Mady's Special on sushi rice for $9. This consisted of spicy salmon, avocado, cucumbers, masago, unagi sauce, fried onions, furikake, and shrimp chips.
The service was friendly, and they completed my group's order fairly quickly. One of my friends, who went to school in Hawaii and knows Hawaiian cuisine quite well, told me the poke here is pretty authentic. The fish looks like it's well marinated and doesn't leave a watery mess on the bottom of the bowl, which is something my friend really looked out for. Cool, I guess I trust his judgement.
I thought my Mady's Special order tasted okay though. Maybe I'm a noob and ordered the wrong thing, but I didn't feel the salmon was that fresh. It's not a bad place, but it's just not somewhere I would go out of my way for. Next time I'm in the area, I may try something else on their menu... or maybe eat somewhere else in the Conservatory.
