Excellent little spot, right across from the best Italian bakery in the northeast. Had a really unique and authentic meal, everything tasted like it was home cooked and didnt have a pretentious air or feel about it. I got the braised lamb, my dining partner got the braised beef, and we shared the pork dumplings and sour cherry crepes. Everything was delicious and balanced. Even got to try a Moldovan wine which was wonderful. The menu is small which I always find is a good thing, as it generally means what they do, they do well, and that is the case here. The flavors were robust and bold, the presentation was appealing and not over the top, the portion size was perfect. I will absolutely be back here with customers and colleagues alike. Pricey by national standards but quite reasonable for the area.

I have never had Eastern European food let alone Moldovan cuisine. I learned that this is the only one in Massachusetts! How fascinating! The ambiance is great here. It is clean, comfortable, and very inviting. The service is superb and the waitstaff are very knowledgeable and able to make great recommendations. I particularly enjoyed the roasted pork. It was so flavorful! My favorite dessert was the honey cake. That’s a must try!

Google
We had a lovely dinner here and enjoyed listening to the music of the Newton jazz jam. We ordered Burrata, Borsch, chicken soup, a Moldovan pan fried cabbage pie, braised beef, a platter of pickled vegetables, chocolate mousse, honey cake, and dumplings with sour cherries. We also had white wine and a Berry Burlesque nonalcoholic cocktail. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was pleasant.

Google
Tastes like ‘home’! We enjoyed the food and atmosphere so much. Highly recommend.

Google
Great food, good atmosphere, good service, good beer and wine selection. I started with the chicken and mushroom crepe appetizer, which was delicious. Then I got Tyask grape beer, which was unique. I tried the cabbage salad with sausages. Both were great, but the sausages were amazing. I also got the stuffed grape leaves, which I loved. I can’t wait to come back and try more!

Google
Their honey late brought me life! Barney and sons teas and decaf coffee is also on the cafe menu. We must return for dining in.

Google
Roasted pork was out of this world. Hummus, dumplings, bread were fantastic too! We loved the cheese grilled pie. Nothing was bad, but those were our favorites.

Megan Sogard

Google
Great experience dining here for lunch. We shared our dishes and the food came out quickly, as it was ready. We easily ordered more throughout the meal as our hearts desired, and the waitstaff was the perfect combination of attentive (we always had water) without disruption. Not to mention, everything was delicious!

Yelp
Finally got to try Moldovan food! I was impressed with the breadth of the menu and we were able to try so many dishes! The restaurant is in Newton so it's a bit far from the city of Boston. If you have a car, there's tons of street parking though. The ambiance is beautiful and elegant as well. Service was great because they weren't too busy that day. My friends and I went and got a ton of food to share. We started with some appetizers: the dips board, burrata, dumplings, potatoes, and the pan-fried pie. The pie was my favorite! The dumplings (similar to pierogis) were a bit greasy. For entrees, we got roasted chicken, sarmale (stuffed cabbage and grape leaves), braised lamb, and mititei (beef and pork sausages). The chicken had good flavor but it was nothing crazy. The sarmale was cooked well and the filling was tasty but I wish there was more meat. The braised lamb was a bit disappointing- it came out in small pieces and it was dry. Mititei sausages were my fave- so juicy, plump, and loved the sweet and saltiness of it. We also had to try some desserts so we got the sour cherry crepes and the house-made cake. The crepes were unique but I'm not a huge cherry fan so it wasn't my vibe. The cake was fantastic. It had a burnt sugar graham cracker taste and it was so moist.

Amanda M.

Yelp
Never heard of Moldovan cuisine? That's ok try it, thank me later! Everything we sampled was perfection. Started Eggplant dip, white bean hummus, burrata, and of course dumplings. Next course included roast chicken, braised lamb, pork sausage, and stuffed cabbage leaves. Dessert literally took the cake! The sour cherry crepe cake was so lush and the honey cake just melted in your mouth. It was pure heaven. Wine selection is taken extremely seriously here at Moldova and I highly recommend you try the Taste of Moldova Wine Flight! One half of the restaurant is set up dinner service with a full bar and amazing take away such as jams and chocolates while the other half is a cafe with coffee, pastries, and a relaxed a

Yelp
My favorite date night spot. I love their East European food as it remind me of home. The service and environment are great. It's a low-key place with East European restaurant attitude which is GREAT. Good and honest people!

Alexandra A.

Yelp
" Eastern European Comfort Food " We were greeted upon entering. The vibe is welcoming, cozy and warm. We tried a few things on the menu. The hummus , pan rice , and potatoes. My husband also tried the cabbage . The food was delicious. It also tasted fresh . Good bold flavors all around . I can see this being comfort food. It is so comforting, lol. In America we have tomato soup or things like Mac and cheese . This place takes "comfort food" to another level . Fancy but comforting , leave it up to the Europeans , to even make comfort food , fancy . The price is not too bad for the quality and freshness of the food . The service was good and servers attentive. Parking is all around so no worries about the parking . It's both metered and non metered so read the signs before parking .

Yelp
Tuesday Night was quiet and left lots of time to learn about the dishes and wine from Artur the sommelier. With a few bar seats and then tables with a long booth adaptable for bigger parties. Everything the staff recommended was delicious! The taste of Moldova flight was delightful - the red not being too heavy or dry if you're hesitant to get a flight with red! But you could go there for weeks and not exhaust the wine list. And the food was divine I had never had Moldovan cuisine before and I think it's got something for everyone. The food was all flavorful with familiar ingredients but new dishes I had never tried including borsch (which was good to this gal that doesn't like beets). Restaurant is on the corner and half cafe for morning service and half restaurant for night dining. Parking is street but a Tuesday night it wasn't hard to find a spot before 6 right out front. Would go back for that honey cake daily if I lived closer - will be bringing other foodies back for more.

Maddy M.

Yelp
The food and wine selection along with the ambiance at Moldova is perfect. Moldova serves Eastern European comfort food. Artur, the owner is so kind and the service is wonderful. Artur gave us a full history of the restaurant and some of the history of Moldavian food. There is a live music room/restaurant and during the day, next door in another room, there is a full cafe in a separate room. There's also two different bathrooms located throughout and good street parking. Their selection of wines is absolutely massive. They recommend that people get wine by the glass so customers can explore. I got the Berry Burlesque mocktail which was so good I drank it in three seconds. The food is absolutely delicious. We got the dip platter of hummus and eggplant (this was my favorite), potatoes, cheese pie (their most popular dish), pork dumplings and potato dumplings, and the burrata. If you're dairy free and tree nut free like me, there's many options for you to eat. I could eat almost anything except the cheese pie and burrata for apps. All their recipes are tree nut free. We shared all our entrees. We got the braised lamb, roasted chicken, sarmale (my other favorite), country salad, borsch, and sausage lamb. All of the entrees were delicious, especially the sarmale. Everything was dairy free except the side of sour cream and polenta. There was so much on the menu I could eat which was so exciting! I can't wait to return to Moldova!

Yelp
This was my first time trying Eastern European food, and as a vegetarian, I was not impressed at all. The restaurant is small but cozy. The service was ok. The server was courteous but not super friendly. The restaurant is not very veggie friendly. It had a few dishes we could order, but nothing in the entree section. Also, they were out of many things today, which seemed weird for a Sunday lunch. For example, they were out of the hummus, one of the few vegetarian options. Really? We ordered the following: - Potato Dumplings - this was so bland, that I couldn't eat more than two. - Noodles - no flavor, very bland, and had no taste. - Eggplant dip - this was ok. We had to eat it with bread. - Baked Potato - this is filled with sour cream. Wasn't a fan. My husband got sausage and thought it was just ok. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this place as a vegetarian. I definitely left hungry from the restaurant.

Benjamin K.

Yelp
Moldova is an interesting spot to visit, being comprised of both a restaurant and a coffee shop sharing a wall and door. I haven't eaten at the restaurant yet, but would like to and it has a beautiful interior. The café part is nice, with a spiced brown sugar latte that I really enjoy. They have many flavors to choose from which I always appreciate. There're some tasty pastries too. Interesting and colorful decorations, designs, and maps are on the walls, making for a pleasant atmosphere.

Necator N.

Yelp
Very disappointed. No Moldovan dishes. No placinte? No mamaliga? No Zeama? They just offer some incredibly generic dishes you can find in any generic American restaurant. Pricey, too.

Joy G.

Yelp
Moldova blew my socks off! My favorite dish of the night was their sour cherry crepe dessert, which was heavenly - chunks of tart cherries wrapped in cream and crepes. For four people, I recommend getting two portions. I could have gladly eaten my own. Other favorites: - The potato and cheese dumplings. It comes with a little dab of caramelized onions and a cup of sour cream, make sure to get a bit of everything in one bite. These reminded me of mashed potatoes in dumpling form. Cannot go wrong. The potato/cheese were better than the pork dumplings. - The roasted chicken, which came in tender chunks that were easy to eat (beats sawing away at my bird with knife and fork). The pickled veggies on the side also provided some great flavor and textural contrast. My husband was raving about the braised lamb, though it didn't come with a baked potato or polenta like the other entrees do. Adding some sort of carb would have really nicely soaked up all that sauce. Our waitress was very nice and the food came out quickly, even though they were packed on a Sunday night. They had live music playing in the other room, with most of the dinner guests seating in the cafe part of the restaurant, which was a lot quieter. I'll have to come back to try the Moldovan baked pies.

Bea T.

Yelp
I would describe this restaurant as very good home cooked comfort Moldovan food! I had a delicious Borsche soup, eggplant dip, lamb kebabs, and sampled the braised beef! I would certainly eat here again to try other things on the menu, because everything was fresh, portioned very well, and they also had a good selection of Moldovan wine...it was so good we brought one home. If you are not familiar with Eastern European food, you will not be disappointed by this restaurant. Also, they have live music here, so check the calendars.

Gabby B.

Yelp
Very unique flavors! We have dined here a few times now and have really enjoyed every meal we have had here. The restaurant is spacious with plenty of seating for large groups and the decor is very nice. I enjoy their wine selection because they offer so many Maldovian wines and the service is great! This time I ordered their braised lamb which came with yummy sauteed vegetables and a baked potato on the side. We dined with a big group so we ordered some appetizers and the hit of the night was the eggplant sauce which was super delicious, especially dipped in bread. The food came out nice and hot and super flavorful. My lamb was tender and juicy and I really enjoyed the tangy sauce that it was served with. The veggies were cooked perfectly and I enjoyed the crispy onion bits. I quickly devoured my entire food and I was very satisfied as always at the end. They was a group setting up to play live music but we had dined in too early that by the time we finished they were just getting started. Oh well maybe we will catch the live music next time!

Henry L.

Yelp
Visited twice. Okay ambiance, food and service. Given how costly the bill was each time I took my party of 8, safe to say there won't be a third. There are better alternatives nearby. Maybe it's me?

Maria L.

Yelp
I really did not know what to expect when my friends said they really enjoyed this Moldovan restaurant by them-- but I was really happy to try it out! Cute spot with good wine and good food. I didn't know what to expect so I wasn't too adventurous when it came to the menu, but the Cornish hen dish was lovely :) You should definitely experience this spot if you're looking for something new!

Mery G.

Yelp
Abysmal customer service! Our family was about to celebrate a milestone birthday for a Romanian at Moldova on Dec. 7, 2024, having a confirmed reservation booked online on Nov. 21 for a party of eight. Moldova was aware that the booking was for a special occasion. The restaurant cancelled the reservation via text on Dec. 5 stating that the restaurant "had been booked for a private event," offering to reschedule the reservation "for another day." No restaurant with such poor etiquette deserves a try.

Steve N.

Yelp
Consistently everything is on point! I've visited for appetizers and wine by the glass, and So many spots have a fairly pedestrian offering, but this place is a sommeliers dream - and they actually listen and recommendations truly in ppint. I've now organized a number of business meetings here - from breakfast of coffee/baklava to the wine tastings/food pairings, and consistently remain impressed (as do my guests). Artur and the team continue to ensure no detail is left unnoticed and look forward to continuing to support one of the top restaurants in the Boston area. Further, I'm looking forward to organizing future wine society events here for IW&FS and Chaîne. It's my reputation on the line but I have no doubts Artur and the Moldova team will continue to impress. 5*.

Olga P.

Yelp
I'm originally from Moldova and was so excited to try it on my trip. Food was very good, authentic dishes but also great selection and meat dishes that my American friends enjoyed. Can't wait to try it again on another trip to Boston

Sarah I.

Yelp
Great service, and delicious food! Can't wait to come back and try more of their dishes.

Milorad S.

Yelp
This place is unbelievable. First of all the server from Azerbaijan was so disrespectful and rude, and second thing is that each dish has a sour cream on the side and basically nothing is tasty. I don't know who is the owner or manager, but I wondering if they tried their food before serving it they need a lot of work there. The only thing that was all right was the lamb rotisserie. It was tasty enough.

Cory P.

Yelp
+One of the best wine selections around with a huge selection of Eastern European wines +Classic Eastern European dishes +Live music multiple times per week +Friendly and helpful staff

Sarena W.

Yelp
Ive been to both the restaurant and the cafe and everything has been amazing! The food and drinks as well as the service were all great. The owners are also very kind and considerate people. I lost my purse and passport at the restaurant and they went out of their way to get in touch with me and get it back to me, even going so far as to send a letter to my house. I can't say enough good things about the restaurant and the people who run it.

Lena P.

Yelp
Food was excellent and most of it could be made gluten free, which was great (I am severely intolerant). I had the roasted chicken with polenta and pickled vegetables on the side and my boyfriend and I shared the roasted potato appetizer. Everything was perfectly cooked and super flavorful! Definitely go and check it out.

Frunza S.

Yelp
Absolutely loved my experience at Moldova Restaurant! The Moldovan dishes were bursting with flavor - especially enjoyed the sarmale and mititei. Friendly staff and great service too. If you're up for trying something new, this place is a winner!

Iaroslav M.

Yelp
Wooow..all I have to say here about Moldova restaurant!! Jk..To be more specific- I've been keeping this place on my list for a long time and finally made it here for lunch..and already want to go back for dinner sometime soon. I had borscht (I think they add some sauerkraut in it),which was my hangover cure..Tasted fantastic even without sour cream. Fresh salad with peppers and cucumbers and tomatoes actually tasted like a good farmer's salad! Cabbage pie..I could eat 10 of those.. Mititei platter was my husband's choice and he was loved it as well! Our server Bronwyn was very sweet and attentive. I think this hidden gem needs to become a famous destination for Eastern European food lovers..

Adina T.

Yelp
Great restaurant! Couldn't find Eastern European cuisine around Boston and glad we found Moldova. Definitely will be back

Zoie L.

Yelp
Disclaimer: I have never had strictly Moldovan food, i am not an expert in eastern european food so i don't know what this stuff is supposed to taste like. I got the pan fried cheese apperizer, it was greasy and pretty flavorless (tasted faintly of dill, but that's all. I was excited to try the borsch, but that was pretty bland as well, the only taste was the spice from the red pepper. The soup was small for 10 bucks (i was expecting complex flavors). I wouldnt go back

Brooke T.

Yelp
Moldova is a nice, reliable option for an evening out. They don't have many vegetarian options, but I've always been perfectly happy with a salad and traditional pie for my meal, and my meat-eating family members always rave about their entrees. On our most recent visit, those I was dining with chose the pork, the chicken, and the fish and all of them thought their meals were excellent. The traditional pie with cheese and herbs and the hand crafted dumplings filled with cheese were also delicious. We were very full after our meal, so the four of us all shared just one dessert, but you really can't leave without trying the sour cherry crepes!

Marina O.

Yelp
This place is not customer oriented. My fiance and I wanted a celebrate a big event at this restaurant. I submitted a form request on their website a week ago. Usually, how this kinda thing works in good places, a manager will get back to you the next day, however, it was two days and I did not receive any reply. So, I thought maybe they did not receive my request. That is why my fiance and I decided to go there in person. When we came in, there was only one rude person and I assume it was a manager. When we told him the purpose of our visit he sounded very rude "I did not have time to go through this yet because I am alone here when I will have time I give you a call and we will schedule an appointment. I work now and I am busy." Do you call it client oriented place? And guess what, it has been a week and we did not hear back. This guy literally kicked us out and ignored our request. Hire more people if you cannot go through one little request! Rude and bad customer service.

Daniel T.

Yelp
Went here for an early dinner with my co-worker. Went around 5:30pm, and we were the only ones there, which is not a bad thing. The has a good but somewhat limited menu. This is not disappointing, but still, choices are somewhat limited. We found the food to be exceptional and fresh, and nicely presented. The only drawback, was that we were seated outside, and it so happens that the tables are on a busy street, with a bus stop, stopping next to the table we were eating at, so it got unpleasantly loud at times. The moral of the story - the food is good, definitely pay a visit but eat indoors unless you want to smell gasoline fumes.

Carolyn C.

Yelp
Nice place , good food , service and decor . We ordered Lamb , cabbage and grapes leaves and cherry dessert . All highly recommended!

Karina R.

Yelp
Surprisingly amazing cozy hidden unique restaurant. Very tasty reasonable price; good fir family dining with kids and also adults only. Very clean and fresh ! Recommend

Nadine C.

Yelp
We went last night for the 1st time, b/c we wanted to listen to the band, Lynn Jolicoeur & the Pulse (they were excellent, 5 stars!) The area isn't large, our table for 9 was quite crowded, but the show was sold out so that's understandable; the food menu is limited but I loved my burger; prices are a bit high, but everyone seemed to enjoy their food. Big wine list & I loved the Feteasca Neagra red wine! Service was very good, everyone worked very hard, bartender was particularly nice & fast. The only problem came at the end. At the start of ordering, we asked for separate checks, 4 couples & 1 single person, & we were told yes. At the end of the night we got a bill for the whole table. When I asked them about it, she said she couldn't do it. But then she did so obviously it was possible. Made for a messy end to a nice evening out with friends. When dining with a large crowd, separate checks are so helpful. There can be a large disparity in what people order. Please work on making this a smoother process in the future. thank you.

Reza M.

Yelp
Great service. Friendly people.Space felt a bit tight and too close to others. Good food and good variety of choices.

Arlene L.

Yelp
Food excellent, Eastern European -- staff also - very friendly and attentive! Love the stuffed cabbage and grape leaves entree - reminds me of my childhood {Ukranian]. We've been there a number of times and are never disappointed! Thank you! Arlene and Ann

Gern B.

Yelp
Fanstastic food! We had dumplings, a fried potato thing, borsch, and a main which was like little rolled cabbage/grape leave type things with chicken and spices inside. The borsch was great, very complex and delicious flavors. Lots of cabbage with things, and the fried stuff was very light and crispy and yummy. This type of food is not super spicy or spiced but rather like comfort food done really well. We went for lunch and our waitress was alone but super attentive and service was great.

Alex S.

Yelp
Great service. Came for the live music. Was a bit loud but enjoyed the overall experience. Great band.

Teresa R.

Yelp
I go Sunday for music . I ordered their grape leaves and they are great . . The food looks wonderful

Bob L.

Yelp
First time trying out some modern European cuisine! (Also super glad they had photos because some of these menu items were quite a feat to pronounce...) Some items that I ordered: 1) PLĂCINTĂ CU BRÎNZĂ I VERDEAĂ - $10 as of 7/2019 Essentially pan fried bread sandwiched in between cow cheese. Not bad but nothing mind blowing 2) KEBAB DE MIEL - $24 as of 7/2019 The lamb kebobs were fantastically flavored and very tender. It didn't have a gamy taste at all and paired superbly with the potatoes and the hot sauce (make sure to ask for more since it really adds to the dish!) 3) CUMA LUI GUGUĂ - $10 These sour cherry crepes were quite tasty. Not overly sweet and a great palate cleanser. 4) Opera Cake - ~$10? (It was a special and I forgot the price). A richly flavored chocolate cake. It is a bit dense though so be mindful when cutting into it.

Ricardo R.

Yelp
Nice place, the waitress was friendly, food arrived quickly. we will come back to try the Moldovan pan-fried pie and another item from the menu

Aleksei K.

Yelp
Food was excellent! Highly recommended place for family dinner. Was impressed by the Wine flights. Definitely worth trying.

Tiffany L.

Yelp
Last evening, I enjoyed a great dinner with my cousins. We tried a variety of dishes: the eggplant dip, fried Moldovan cabbage pie, pork dumplings, the mititei and one of the specials: the Uzbek pilaf with braised lamb. I normally do not have a difficult time picking a favorite, but everything we had was equally delicious. I cannot wait to come back and try more dishes.

Bill C.

Yelp
Wholly disappointing Eastern European restaurant with mediocre food, perplexing decor and terrible service. Visited with a large group for dinner and got to try a variety of food items - not impressed. Some items too salty (bean dip, fish), some bland (cabbage pie, dumplings), and some too greasy (lamb). Also, service was lacking to say the least, with the manager at door shockingly rude and unhelpful - should not be working at a restaurant - and server somewhat slow and apathetic. Would definitely not recommend.

Francis H.

Yelp
I have been there more than once and last time we attended a wine dinner and every thing was executed perfectly from the food to the wine I wish i lived closer so I could go more often

Robert J.

Yelp
Outstanding. Who knew that you could find amazing Russian dishes in Boston? (Well, Newton.) Everything on the menu is prepared authentically, quickly, and deliciously. The fried potato pie and the sarmale are standouts.

Liana B.

Yelp
The worst food and service . I will not recommended to anyone . We had the worst experience tonight . We had party of 14 people we got a list with how much will be for the food and tax and gratuity , but to the end surprisedly we end up paying way more for the same exactly that was in the list. Is just a rip off . I confronted the manager and he was so rude and arrogant. Don't ever go there . food was cold . Service not good either . Ok

kelly r.

Yelp
Been to this place many times and it's still as good as ever. Prices went up but not as significantly as other restaurants we used to visit regularly. Compote - delicious and so are all the appetizers and main courses. Highly recommend the cherry crepe for dessert !

James B.

Yelp
Food was mediocre but there were many failures from the owner. Not the nicest guy around and very unfriendly. Customer service is a must in this business

Thomas A.

Yelp
Really solid food here. I never knew what Moldova cuisine was but it's delicious. The place can get busy, so I highly recommend reservations. They only offer Moldova wines, but do not fret, they can be delicious. My group had the 5 elements red wine and it was a great recommendation from the server. We essentially did family style for 3 people. The roasted eggplant mix as an app is a great dip. They offer some fresh bread (but not enough) for the amount of dip that they give you. The traditional pie filled with cheese and herbs is crispy and decadent. It's like a deep fried cheese blintze. The roasted pork meat was tender and flavorful. The lamb kebab was gamey and delicious. The noodles as a side was bland. The sour cherry crepe was the BOMB DIGGITY. It just packed so much flavor. Def want to come back and try more foods and wines.
