Best Restaurants to Try on the Drive Between Los Angeles and Las Vegas | Eater LA

"This chainlet of high desert breakfast spots has locations in Hesperia, Victorville, and Helendale, with easygoing morning favorites like breakfast skillets — try the Sante Fe skillet with chicken fajita-style fixin’s — and omelets to lunchtime plates like grilled steak. The restaurant is every day of the year except Thanksgiving and Christmas until 2:30 p.m. Inside looks like your grandmother’s living room; the best seats are unquestionably the booth tables lining the windows (particularly the rounded corner booths for a bigger group)." - Matthew Kang

Google
We thoroughly enjoyed eating at Molly Brown's. Never had to ask for refills, they were on top of it. Pretty good diner coffee. Looks like a crowded, popular spot, but we still didn't have to wait long. Steak was cooked and seasoned perfectly, Enchilada sauce was better than expected, and the guac, salsa, and sour cream (that I requested off) aren't any additional charge. Majority of the menu items we saw are average $12-$20. And you genuinely get your fill. (Biscuits and Gravy came with the steak as part of the meal) I definitely recommend eating here

Tried this place out with a couple of colleagues, and it was great. Had the Paul Bunyan, which had 2 eggs, ham on the bone, 2 sausages, 2 slices of bacon, and your choice of potatoes with pancakes or French toast. I chose the latter and started with the banana bread, which was phenomenal with whipped butter. I would highly recommend this place. Better than Dennys. The service was great, and the ambiance reminded me of an old-school western diner.

Google
Nice hometown place with large portions and delicious food. The coffee is really amazing and servers are nice. I had the eggs benedict with a huge piece of thick ham. My friend had the skillet and a strawberry waffle. This is an old school Diner with plenty to choose fro.m

Google
Food was great, service was great and atmosphere was nice and comfortable. I ordered the chicken fried steak smothered in sausage gravey, hash browns (extra crispy), eggs and biscuits and gravy. Everything was so good and menu was very reasonably priced. Will definitely be back.

Google
The food was delicious! Very friendly felt like home place. I have had plenty of biscuits and gravy but this place had the most freshly baked light and fluffy biscuits I’ve ever had from anywhere. A must return place to eat!

Google
Excellent service Excellent staff. The food was so fantastic, I ordered the bacon eggs and hash browns with a side of grits and sour dough toast. I look forward to going again. This is the type of place to go every morning for breakfast. Definitely a must try. Absolutely 💯 Grade AAA

Yelp
Are you hungry? Do you enjoy great customer service? This restaurant offers plenty of parking upon your arrival. Yes, there is usually a small wait, but the wait is absolutely worth it. They give you huge portions and are very attentive while dining in.

Yelp
I've been here many times from the 90's to today. Its always been a nice breakfast. The hash browns are very good. Staff is nice, friendly and attentive. Seating is spacious and they have bar seating. They have some nice early AM deals. Pop in and say hey

Yelp
Molly Browns Country Cafe (off Smoketree) is always fantastic. My family and I have been coming to this location for the better part of a decade. I love trying all their different offerings. This visit I tried the tuna melt with fries (9 of 10) the tuna was fresh the cheese was melty and the bread was perfectly toasted, my preference is slightly less celery but still a great sandwich. My wife got her staple meal California chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries (10 of 10). I placed a to go order on a busy Mother's Day and they still had my food hot and ready after 15 minutes. The staff is always super friendly and attentive. I love the country cafe vibe and it feels like a great place to start your day. Highly recommend!

Yelp
I decided to treat my daughter to brunch today on NYE. She found this country cafe and we went. There's a medium size parking lot but because of the great reviews, it can be difficult to find a spot. We parked down the street with no problem and walked on the sidewalk to the restaurant. There were people waiting outside so after ensuring we weren't cutting in front of anyone, we went inside and checked in with the hostess, Megan. It was obvious they were very busy being New Year's Eve but Megan was very kind to us and took my name down for our party of two. We waited for about 25 minutes and Megan came out and called my name for our party of two that a table was ready. We were seated and Megan ensured the table was clean and provided menus to us. Shortly after checking on other tables she returned to us, asking if we knew what we wanted to drink. She took our drink orders and if I remember correctly provided silverware wrapped in a napkin. My hot tea arrived as hot water in a ceramic mug with an additional mini metal tea pot of water, and honey and a lemon on a saucer. Various sweeteners were available on the table. My daughter ordered a sprite which arrived in a hard plastic cup with ice and a straw. I noticed my cup was a little dirty so when Liz, our server came, I mentioned it to her after we placed our food order. Liz was very sweet and returned quickly with a clean cup with hot water for my tea. While we waited for our food we looked around and noticed the 50 person capacity in the room. However the cafe was larger than it appeared, there was another room with 30 person maximum capacity on the other side of the cafe. Considering the amount of people and how busy it was, I thought our food arrived very fast (thanks Liz for putting our order in right away). The silverware was clean, the food was good and the company was great. The cafe was decorated in red, green and white plaid window curtains which gave it a homey vibe. It also made me feel like we were in a wood cabin. It's very cozy. They did a great job with the design for this cafe. All in all, we had a good time for our first visit. There were lots of families, friends and groups and it seemed like a nice place to eat breakfast or lunch. I believe they close daily at 2:30pm. Great customer service, very friendly staff!

Yelp
The staff and the food is great and the service and amazing. Eileen is a sweetheart. This far my favorite breakfast spot in the high desert. Try the hobo skillet

Raymond G.

Yelp
Great food! I get the Chicken fried steak, hash browns (extra cripy), eggs and a slice of their banana nut bread served with whipped butter (so good) or biscuits with sausage gravy.

Christy L.

Yelp
Never been here before, what a surprise! This restaurant is amazing and they are so generous with the portions, can't wait to go back, awesome breakfast!
google avatar

Yelp
Place always has a wait but absolutely worth it. Been there with a party of 2 and a party of 6 and both times service and food were excellent. For 3 years we've lived 4 mins away and have never tried it until recently and have been sleeping on this hidden gem. Great food, service, value, and above all great tasting food

Yelp
The food was wonderful and the service was great! We are from Utah and would definitely drive a little out the way down to LA to eat here again.
google avatar

Sammie A.

Yelp
Food was fresh, hot and tasted amazing. The staff was friendly and very courteous, I will go back.

Yelp
Hands down best breakfast in the HD. Taste, price, and portion 10/10 Hobo Skillet all day
google avatar

Yesenia T.

Yelp
Good food and waitresses are the best people. I will definitely be back, it always busy so be prepared to wait a little for a table. I little crammed but who home isn't when we all sit to eat

Tee B.

Yelp
Prices weren't the greatest. Almost $16 for French toast?!? It was lacking on flavor and had maybe 4 blueberries when it was advertised as "smothered". And another $6 for a "side" of breakfast potatoes? They were soggy, not crisp. We went here based on reviews. Food was not memorable, pretty blah, have tried better brunch places. The coffee even was lacking in flavor, couldn't finish one cup. Was very disappointed unfortunately.
google avatar

Shayna-Lyn S.

Yelp
Arrived at 12:30pm on a Sunday and was told a 20 minute wait upon arrival for two people. About 40-45 minutes passed, so we asked for an update on the time and are told it should be just another 10 more minutes. I understand being over by 10-15 minutes on the wait, but to be over by more than double is inexcusable. That said, it is now 1:38pm and we have left and decided not to eat here on principle-- good service includes not under exaggerating on the wait time.

Yelp
I like the one in Hesperia this one too busy too rushed too noisy too nothing. went to the wrong one in. Victorville.
google avatar

Ronald C.

Yelp
Chipotle Black Bean Burger is pretty good. It has a big veggie patty with cheese, bbq sauce and lots of crisp lettuce and tomatoes. The white bun isn't good it squishes down completely. Albondigas soup is excellent, very flavorful. Side salad with blue cheese dressing was really unimpressive, the dressing lacks flavor.

Yelp
We've visited before, but we usually go to the Molly Brown's location closer to home. This one had a unique touch--the recipes were noticeably different. The food was absolutely delicious, served hot and fresh. The service was excellent, and Dora made the experience even better with her fun and attentive approach. This visit was just last week, and we're already heading back! The atmosphere has a charming old-country feel, perfect for a relaxed dining experience.

Yelp
Came in earlier in the morning with some friends. Don't get me wrong, the food here is amazing! Everyone is super nice. The service is great. Usually never any problems and I love the food! The vibe here is nice as well. My problem stems from the fact that I came in with several people, took a long time to get our food orders. When they finally did come, mine wasn't made right. I didn't want to complain about it, I didn't want to wait any longer. Pretty upset, I'll update to a positive on my next expeirence I'm sure.

Yelp
Met some friends for a late breakfast at Mollie Brown's. It was a cute little place with a very small parking lot however there was street parking available. The place was clean and service was excellent. Our server was quick, efficient and very friendly. The coffee was good and the refills to keep it hot kept coming in a very timely manner. Everyone was happy with what they ordered. I had the chicken sausage scramble which was really good. I wouldn't hesitate to visit again.

Yelp
This is a cool little gem in the high desert. Great food and affordable definitely a must if you are in this area.

Yelp
My veggie omelette with bacon, hash browns and wheat (real) toast! It was absolutely delicious. Everyone's food was delicious. The ambiance is cool. The staff is wonderful, nice and very respectful. The prices are reasonably, too. My party of four arrived and were seated immediately even though they were extremely busy. I'll be back, probably today.

Claudia K.

Yelp
super good, 10/10 recommend. We were looking for a small diner and this was the best we've had when in this area! Service was amazing!

Yelp
I will argue with anyone on this hill this is hands down the BEST Mollys location I can't stress this enoughhh... And let me tell you about a sweet lady named Dora she is my favorite I love being in her section feels like home

Guillermo M.

Yelp
Reserve before going because of the line. Great food portions for the price and good service.

Joanna F.

Yelp
Great food and service. Feels real homey and the prices are more than reasonable! Perfect place to enjoy breakfast with loved ones. The French toast with blueberries was amazing!
google avatar

Naisha R.

Yelp
Imagine Dennys or IHOP but faaaaaaar more authentic. Honestly, I cannot go back to those type of places after eating here. The staff were very friendly. The restaurant is small so typically there is some type of wait. On Sundays, it's very crowded with luxury cars in the parking lot. Cons: Sometimes there can be weirdo customers that stare allot. Take it as a compliment. YOUR BEAUTIFUL

Don C.

Yelp
The bert breakfast on the planet atmosphere is pleasant prices are great considering the huge helpings
google avatar

B. R.

Yelp
Always happy w the service and food The only issue is the Victorville location It's located in a tight spaced area I like the Hesperia, Smoketree & Helendale locations best
google avatar

Colleen C.

Yelp
My daughter bought some eggs Benedict for me as a treat. I can't believe how the quality of food has declined. The hollendaise sauce was so watered down it was almost tasteless and it ran all over the container. The fried potatoes were BARELY browned off (they seemed more like boiled) and the bell peppers also undercooked. For $14.00 the quality should be bette. It never used to be that way. I was very disappointed. There is NO excuse. Shame on them.

Lakecia I.

Yelp
Omg first time and it was amazing the service, food and ambiance. Be hungry U get a lot of food. Me and my husband will for sure be back. Thank you

Yelp
This place is definitely worth stopping at when traveling instead of going through the drive threw somewhere else. The food and service are fantastic!!
google avatar

Diana T.

Yelp
Stopped by here after attending an awards ceremony for my Gson. I have to say the bacon avocado cheese omelette was delicious! The hash browns were cooked to perfection and the banana nut bread was so moist and yummy! And the staff there is so nice! Everything was serviced with a smile and the order was done very quickly. A great place to eat. All in all YES i definitely had a good experience and I WILL be back!
google avatar

Nathann E.

Yelp
Ruby and Yolanda might be my favorite people in the industry very good working, and well managed, very respectful and caring for you and your needs. If you ever get them as your server you should feel blessed !

Yelp
The most friendly staff ever made us real right at home. Food was amazing I love a good cafe breakfast. The signs and decor was adorable on the walls.

Sharon C.

Yelp
My husband were looking for a good breakfast place to eat on our way to Las Vegas. Although the cafe is not close to the 15, it is well worth the extra few miles. I think that is a little over 7 miles from the Interstate 15. We read about the $8.89 special menu, which runs from 6-8 am. Delicious food. My husband chose the French Toast and I had the pancake special. The food was delicious and the waitress was very friendly.
google avatar

Carol G.

Yelp
Our favorite spot for breakfast. The food is delicious and has huge portions. We always request my girl Yoli, who is by far the best waitress ever. Food is always hot and out fast. You won't be disappointed.

Sylvia L.

Yelp
We decided to try breakfast at this Molly browns. Because we usually eat at the Molly brown on Amethyst in victor ville and love that place for breakfast. So we thought we would like the Molly brown on smoke tree in Hesperia. Well they're nothing a like. The coffee was old, we both had scrambled eggs I had hash browns and my husband had potatoes with onions and bell peppers. His potatoes were brought with out the onions and bell pepper so she took it back and threw onions and bell pepper's on top they were not cooked together. It was slop. We also ordered sausage very well done and they were no where near well done. Our breakfast was brought to us almost immediately and it was still cold . I don't recommend eating at this Molly browns in Hesperia on Smoke tree and Hesperia Rd.

Yelp
The food here is excellent. Very tasty. The service is outstanding. One of the best places I know to eat breakfast.

Yelp
Yummy breakfast bowl!!! Would be great if I could have had a latte with it . Will go again.

Yelp
No BS. Some of the best pancakes me and my chick have ever had! Really though. I really wish this place was closer to our home town. I had a couple eggs, and home fry potato's and another side I can't remember. Lol. But I remember it was real good. Service was decent, not the best, but still pretty good. The waitress lady looked a little burnt out, like she'd worked there since 1981, but overall she was decent demeanor. Seriously, some of the best breakfast I've eaten in many moons. Thanks guys!
google avatar

Rhonda B.

Yelp
Every time I have gone I have haven't been disappointed, the service is amazing the food is wonderful, I always get the waffles they are so soft and fresh. The atmosphere is so peaceful n family oriented. I say this is a must go to!

Richard C.

Yelp
For the value you can't beat Mollys. While the portions seem to be getting slightly smaller, the quantity and quality is good. We haven't been there in ages for lunch but breakfast is pretty consistently good
google avatar

Teresa T.

Yelp
Better be really hungry as these breakfast portions are huge! My friend had the enchiladas and eggs - it looked delicious. I had the Combo omelette and asked for it without bacon. It was made just right. This omelette had to be two inches thick. Puffy & filled with ham, sausage, cheese. Spanish Omelette was ordered, looked % yummm. I might get that next time or the California Omelette with a fresh spinach. Biscuits & gravy was enough to two or one tough guy. Weekday at 10:00 am, there was no wait. Breakfast & lunch only.

Holly M.

Yelp
I have been living in Hesperia for 56 years, and have been going to Molly Browns for years. Sunday morning we put our name on the waiting list and asked for a booth. We were called for a table and stated again that we had asked for a booth, so she took us back to the waiting area. She called the next couple who arrived way later than us and she took them to the same table that she offered to us and they stated also that they didn't want the table and asked to sit in the booth next to the table so she went ahead and let them sit at the booth right next to the table. The booth was open when she took us but never offered it to us and when I asked her about it she just didn't care and told me if I wanted to go ask the other customers to leave the booth I could, but should would not ask them to leave once she let them sit down. What kind of employee is this? Why wouldn't she say there were people waiting for a booth before them. Molly Brown needs to educate and train their employees how to handle situations and know how to treat their customers better.

Dianna V.

Yelp
Today was our first visit to this cafe and they did not disappoint. We heard they were good and had a high rating, so we went for my son's birthday. Everthing we ordered was delicious. The service was excellent! We got our order quick and the ladies were great/pleasant all the while providing excellent service in a very busy environment. Portions were generous. The cinnamon rolls were the best in town. The place was a hit for me but a bit small. That's the only critique I can give. The place is a hit in my book and I certainly will be making another visit soon. Thank you to the staff!!
google avatar

Yelp
This quaint breakfast diner is homey. The food is good and fairly priced. I think the thing that impresses me most about this place is the value. It's hard to find affordable meals nowadays that offer a good value. Somehow this place has figured out how to keep their prices fair and their portions generous. My son and I came here to grab some breakfast. I had an omelette with home fries and toast with coffee. My son had machaca with eggs, tortillas, beans and rice. Both of us enjoyed our meals and were satisfied. Both of us had meals that cost less than $10...to that I say BRAVO! My meal was good although next time I'll order the hash browns. My home fries were a little unevenly cooked...some were as crisp as a potato chip and others were hardly crispy and the sautéed onions and bell pepper were added on top like an after thought. Needless to say I've had better and other restaurants but at this point it seems like no one can beat this price. I'm looking forward to trying other items on the menu whenever I get a chance.

Yelp
Great tasting food and a lot of it. If you go, go hungry and be prepared to take half of it home.

Valerie L.

Yelp
I ate breakfast here a few days ago I went in and I ate the early bird breakfast and I only ate like eight bites of my food and within 10 minutes of leaving the restaurant I was at the gas station vomiting up all my eggs food poison hit my stomach just that quick
