The Best Irish Bars in Seattle | Eater Seattle

"Molly Maguires might be the most neighborhoody Irish pub on this list. It’s tucked away in Stumbletown, a.k.a. West Woodland. Molly Maguires adds to the stumbling with no fewer than four classic Irish drafts: Kilkenny, Smithwick’s, Guinness, and Harp, alongside a number of other local and import brews. And yes, they still have their long-running free buffet here on certain days (as outed in a recent article in The Seattle Times), but be aware that it’s an intimate feed-the-neighborhood type of situation, and not set up (nor intended) as anything like a destination happy hour attraction. You can still hit it up even if you’re from Stumble City rather than Stumbletown, but we’d recommend hoisting a pint at, say, the excellent Thursday or Friday karaoke nights here first." - Mark DeJoy

Google
Super cute place. Lots of TVs to watch the game. It’s like cheers, everybody knows your name. I come in here on my own regularly. And now there’s Caribbean / Latin food you can order. Super delicious! There’s games, you can shoot pool, darts.

Google
I love Molly's!! I've always had such a great time here shooting pool with some local pros and singing karaoke with the local legend KJ Whitney Spearz on Friday nights. The owner is such a sweet man and the bartender Ava is absolutely the best!!

Brooke

Google
If you're an Irish soccer fan, this place is for you! Good deals on beer and shots. Live Irish music and every soccer game you can imagine. Staff is great and friendly. Pool tables up top. Casual atmosphere. Super locals bar where anything goes.

Google
super cozy and friendly! I struggle to go out to places, but I was comfortable here. great atmosphere

Google
The Irish plate on st paddy's day of mashed potatoes, cooked cabbage, soda bread and corn beef were delicious. The service was great that night in a packed house. It is a dive bar but a fun loving place. Highly recommend and we'll be back.

Mary B

Google
Fun local spot with a great bar tender, Eva, excellent customer services. $3 jello shots. Karaoke bar with local talent. Would recommend and would go again.

Roger Knopf

Google
A great homey bar with a huge selection of beer, Irish whiskey, and a nice friendly staff. My wife and I are eager to go back, it's a perfect "local" Apparently on weekends they have "pot luck" food, usually anchored by what the owner brings. Outside of that, seems like chips are the only food option, if you indeed need it with your Guinness!

Bill P

Google
Great place with mellow atmosphere and great food. Only 3 Irish offerings, but all 3 are great and all cost $10 (with tax!!). Go at happy hour and enjoy

Yelp
They have a free potluck food selection on the weekends which as a Gen Z not in tech -- i loved that! The bartender was super cool and kind. 10/10 service! The ambiance is your run of the mill dive bar. They seem to attract an older crowd (65+) and play older tunes. But as the only young person, they were super cool and didn't pay me any mind (which i prefer).

Yelp
Cool karaoke finbar = Rad Pool and golf Grab a drink and bring a friend for chill low key vibes Tip your bartenders

Yelp
Wow! I'm not sure how to call this place. This is something you just need to experience for yourself. Came in, looking for Irish Stew/dinner--beer. Bartender seemed ultra slow to respond. There is no tap list, she just recites 15 beers, (OK, maybe it's my yuppy bars that have a tap list. Anyway, #1: The Shepard's Pie, damn! This is good. Meanwhile, dude looks right into my face and makes a statement I didn't really follow ..? So I basically was like, "Huh? What??" He suddenly looked like he wanted to kick my ass. #2: it's fucking COVID, ... guy comes in, bartender asks him for his proof of vaccination/ID, etc. guy immediately becomes giant D-BAG. He sits, bartender takes his shit, serves him. I later tell her I'm impressed she didn't spit in his drink! Now, bartender who I initially thought was slow AF, OK... I apologize, now we are friends. Anyway, on the way out the door, she gives me my needs at happy hour price, even though it's last happy hour. #3: Sweet, but odd woman comes out of woodwork, tells me she likes my hair. (I just came from barber, 1 hour ago) LOL, anyway, she fist bumps me, and now I'm out the door. Just come here, try it yourself. But the food is fucking impressive!

Yelp
Can't beat this place for an authentic Irish bar, great place if you're in the mood for a true Irish bar!

Yelp
Fantastic ownership, and a great local spot with drinks and pool. Came here on a snow day and the owner was so gracious to provide free sandwiches as he had given his staff the day off due to the weather. Highly recommend supporting this local business
google avatar

Yelp
Fun local pub filled with many different characters. Owner Finbar is friendly and the staff is very nice
google avatar

Yelp
Guinness and jello shots. My first jello shot. A solid Irish dive bar. What more can I say?
google avatar

Austin S.

Yelp
Came in once with some friends. Had beer while they played darts. Middle of the day but I'd definitely come to watch some football (soccer.) Bartender seemed chill enough. Didn't seem to be a place just to stop in for a drink, regulars more than anything.
google avatar

Marty O.

Yelp
Old school neighborhood Irish bar. Cheap beer, STRONG drinks, pool table ( in good shape), June box, food? Not sure kitchen was closed at 7 on Saturday night. Bartender didn't know any of the most common mixed drinks by name. Needless to say we gave her the recipe for very well made drinks. Fun place, nice folks, nothing fancy, we'll be back.
google avatar

Gretchen H.

Yelp
Oh my. We went in here because Joli was not open yet. This is a salt of the earth kind of place. I really liked the vibe in here, and they make good drinks. If I lived close I would probably be in here often. But what was really off putting was the smell. This place stinks! Why, I am not sure. The waiter at Joli says its because of all the spilt booze on the floor. But I think it might be a little bit deeper ingrained than that. Something fundamental. Perhaps with enough booze you wouldn't notice the smell? Anyways, we had an enjoyable, though brief time at Molly Maguires. I would go back in, sure. But I am more apt to do is just double check the times that Joli is open.

Jonah J.

Yelp
Great neighborhood bar and great place to watch the Seahawks! Killer Happy Hour, M-F 3p-7p. Affordable prices, good atmosphere and the friendliest bartenders. My friends and I always have a good time and feel welcome! Finbar makes great food on the weekends! Love this bar.

Yelp
Probably my favorite Irish pub I've ever been to. Good food, cheap drinks, just an overall awesome place to come to. Highly recommend if you're a local
google avatar

Angelina L.

Yelp
Great little neighborhood Irish bar... Thursday nights seems to be karaoke night and it was packed. Pool tables in the back and a jukebox with a good selection. Good service, excellent alcohol selection and decent prices. I don't think it's going to be a regular place. I will, however, definitely revisit the place.
google avatar

Molly W.

Yelp
Dart board? Check. Pool? Duh. Best bartenders ever? Yup. Delicious home-cooked complimentary food on the weekends? Super check. This is the greatest place in all of Phinney/Ballard...and arguably the world. I am in love with Molly Maguire's.
google avatar

Dilpreet T.

Yelp
Sometimes I wonder why I come here. Is it for the people and their ridiculous stories that they tell 5 different ways all of them ending differently...perhaps Is it for the emotional abuse I get from the Bartender as she pours me a heavy hand of Jameson....maybe Is it because the pool table, which I constantly win at, usually in a drunken state...sure Is it because of the most random encounters with people I met over the years from grade school to college and we share our stories over a pint....possibly Is it all of the above, and the great Friday night karaoke nights....HELL YES!!
google avatar

Karl H.

Yelp
Not only do they know how to pour a pint of Guinness, but they have great food there too. On some days, when they are particularly busy, customer understanding and patience is needed. Trust me it won't go unnoticed by the staff. Back to the food. I highly recommend the Lamb Chipotle Burger or the Shepards Pie with a side of Soda Bread. You can't go wrong either way. But, keep in mind you have to appreciate the fact that most of the clientle as well the staff are actually IRISH! So, there's a bit of reverse discrimination some days if you're not down with the green or the Guinness.

Yelp
I had my doubts about this place, but I was wrong. As a New York boy, I expect my bars to be Irish, but in the Emerald City? Well, some of the patrons have names like Pat, Kate, and Michael, and brogues to go with them. Every so often, they have a live Irish band. The food? Well, come on, it's an Irish bar: hearty and simple. They also have a nice beer selection, live music a few times per week, karaoke on Thursdays, good service, a mixed crowd not made up only of hipsters. Great place if you want a real bar.
google avatar

James F.

Yelp
I don't quite remember any visits here, maybe because I was always having such a good time. I love going to the Irish brunch, which usually features some great traditional Irish dishes. Watch out for Thursday nights, the karaoke machine comes out and so do some pretty wasted bad signers, not all of em are bad, but it only takes a few to kill some karaoke. Molly's has some fine Irish brews on tap a few locals too, and a great whiskey selection. One of the only Irish bars I know of that is actually filled with Irish people more often than not.

Yelp
Wish I could give good ol' Molly Maguires another star, or two.... but I just can't LOVE this place. Last time we went in, there was a really irritating couple sitting on tall bar stools in the CENTER of the floor, about 5 feet from the door. Besides just being annoying - and silly - you'd think this would qualify as a fire hazard, but did the bartender have them move? He did not. The consequence? A bar fight. Because a couple of old soaks at the bar... well... anyway, there was a kerfluffle, words were exchanged, men leapt up, there was a punch thrown.... Sigh. Which all points to the central problem here. If a pub collects old soaks like the ones who gather here, it must be doing something right, hmmm? And Molly Maguire does a lot right. Cool, clean woody room. NIce beer selection. Excellent Guinness. Decent cocktails. Bar staff is generally very nice. And yet, the place doesn't seem to "gel" somehow. For whatever reason, the mix of patrons seems somehow "off." It's as if Mollys gets an oil and water mixture of on the one hand (let's call them oil) old guys, calm collected regulars, and pleasant folks who just want a pint, a nice bowl of stew, and a tune... and on the other hand (water) screechy/giddy girls and their strutting boyfriends who have no concept of bar ettiquette and loudmouth nitwits who sit in the center of the floor and then start a fight when someone says something. And I don't have a clue of how to resolve this. It certainly can't be anything the owner is doing wrong. He's a swell guy - very friendly, personable, courteous - everything you'd want in a publican. So, let's just say if you go here for the good beer and good jukebox and darts and pub grub (all top drawer) you might have a fabulous time, or you might wind up leaving after one because of some random stupidity. And it's basically the luck of the draw.

Yelp
I came for the Pub Quiz which is one of the best out there. Not too niche, not painfully hard but easy enough that people ace it. Lost of fun rounds and interesting commentary. The drinks were good, and while I didn't have the food it looks really good!
google avatar

Yelp
I usually pop in once a month for a meet via Meetup.com. I hosted the meet last night and we had a great turn out. I thought the staff handled the invasion really well. I usually enjoy the food more, but last night, not so much. I should have stuck with my faves. Everything I've had there is delightful, especially the BLT, the champ and the lamb burger. Last night's Mushroom Bisque was too salty and had too much pepper. I didn't expect the irish bread to be grilled with cheese all over it. Was actually kinda oily and icky. I thought I'd get a nice chunk of bread to go with soup. At any rate, this visit doesn't tarnish my usual feel for the place. It's a bit overwhelming when a band starts playing which usually means that the folks I'm with head up to the Reading Gaol so we can carry on with our chattering.
google avatar

Yelp
Local irish pub. Has kilkenny on tap and I know they try hard to have a great menu but I have only truly ENJOYED the shepards pie. Stay late so you can watch the regulars get in arguments about global politics but give up on getting on the pool table past 9pm.
google avatar

Yelp
I first came to Molly's upon the request of a friend, who had met one of the bartenders and got all excited about his accent. A group of us went to watch the Seahawks play the Saints; we went back the next week to watch them play the Bears in the playoffs. Great place to watch the game :) A variety of folks- old, young, local. They have strong bow on tap, which is a plus. Did I mention there was a buffet of FREE food during the game? We decided to go back for Wednesday Quiz Night. I believe it usually kicks off a bit after 9pm. Great quiz night! Very friendly quizmaster; not too hard, but not too easy (for instance, the eggheads we were grading got all of the academic questions correct, but totally flopped on the picture round, which was of cartoon fish. Who doesn't know the name of Nemo or Flounder? Jeez...:) Food and alcohol is great, atmosphere is friendly, wait staff are nice and hard-working. My only complaints are that it's a bit small, it's not a very comfortable place to hang out- the bench along the wall isn't padded at all, and there's a runner that poked you in the back, and the menu online is expansive and delicious-sounding, but it's old and they don't serve a lot of the stuff they supposedly used to (EDIT: there are two Molly's websites, and one is really old. Do not go to http://www.seattleirishpubs.com/mollys/, go to www.mollyson65th.com). Our group ordered the shepherd's pie, chicken nachos, mac and cheese, spicy wings, and lamb chipotle burger, all of which was delicious. But I was really craving their (old website) online-menu-advertised broiled cheese soda bread with roasted garlic, which supposedly is no longer served.

Yelp
This place was awesome the bartender was so friendly and nice. I am from out of town and was just passing through and he made me feel like I was home. This small dive bar had tons of friendly people I will definitely come back when I'm in town.

Yelp
I'm a total fan of this place! Great food, awesome ambiance, kick a$$ jukebox, and a fantastic staff (Gibb is the nicest bartender I've ever met)! Plus, you never, ever know what you're going to see/experience when you're there. Now, on to my experience. We'd gone there for my boyfriend's buddy's birthday party recently (on an early Saturday evening), and when we first walked in, you could immediately tell it was a local's establishment... meaning not a touristy college place, which is what I definitely wanted to avoid. (I mean, who wants the crazy drunk guy playing air guitar to GNR nonstop, right?) As the evening progressed, meaning as the many, many pints of Guiness were poured and the Shepard's Pie was served, more and more friends started filtering in. Being the dutiful girlfriend that I am, I proceed to feed money into the jukebox, and at the request of Birthday Boy play plenty of GNR & AC/DC. I escape to the comforts of the enclosed outdoor smoke pit in the back where I could smoke in peace, and they could play their pool... they were male bonding, and me not being male, well... yeah. But I digress. After about my 5th trip out back, my boyfriend appears and says very calmly, "Sweetie, it is time to go." As we were walking out the door, I can hear Birthday Boy's voice trailing behind me, yelling, "Hell YEAH" with Paradise City pounding in the background, and Gibb the bartender bidding his farewell... ...we learned the next day that approximately twelve minutes after our departure, Birthday Boy was moved by the music to the point of jumping onto the pool table (a beautiful one, at that), playin' his little heart out on that air guitar, hopping from table to table a'la Slash, then ends it by cartwheeling off said table, missing his mark, and face-planting on the floor. I'd have paid $1.99 to see that. Like I said, great place to hang out at, the food's great, staff is awesomely awesome... and you never know what to expect when you're there. I give it 4 stars overall, but had to throw that extra one in just for having the ability to tell this true story. Go there. Spend your money on very reasonably priced drinks, tip your bartenders, and split a Shepard's Pie. So totally worth it!

Yelp
I found this bar when I moved to Ballard and first became acquainted with it on Wednesday trivia nights. I enjoy the trivia master dude who keeps things funny with a good, dirty sense of humor. Molly's also has live music that I've heard once (a 3 piece Irish cover band; I'm going to call them a cover band bc the members aren't Irish and they may have their own original songs but I'm too familiar with that genre so I dunno...) I have enjoyed some strongbow on tap (which, at least I think, is kinda rare) and they sell Magners cider in bottles. I spent some time in the UK and came to love Magners. The news of this discovery pleased me immensely. The pub food menu is status quo. Nothing truly amazing but they have something called champ which is essentially mashed potatoes, I believe. Mmmm mushed up carbs. My friend devoured it. They get busy here so I don't expect to have tons of great attentive service but it's a bar.... it's every wo/man for themselves, dammit!!
google avatar

Lynne E.

Yelp
Five stars for the bar! Please note that the menu on this listing is not accurate. Perhaps it just wasn't available when I was there. Asked for a menu and was told they only have grilled sandwiches. Still worth the trip, but eat first.
google avatar

Danton S.

Yelp
I dont' drink alot. While eating the hamburgers, mac'n'cheese or the shepards pie IT IS ALMOST impossible to not want a beer! The red hen rye whiskey is one of those decisions that are bordering on whats' new, and whats' different. I wouldn't know what would be better, Having a nice , cool chill place like THE JOYCE motel...located off of 11th and Burnside close by...or a better theatre. Create Jobs....remodel the cinema off of 105th!(I swear i saw Mickey Rourke having sex in there while watching PREDATORS.)
google avatar

Nikki D.

Yelp
Fun little bar with good, cheap beer! We paid only $5 for a pitcher of a nice, light lager, so good that it won a Blue Ribbon! I have also been here for Trivia, which is one of the best in Seattle and is always packed. After an appalling experience at The Tin Hat (its actually not cool or unique to be rude to people based on their appearance) we were so happy to have (Charmie?) as our server who was very friendly, charming, and interested in accomodating my group. Thanks Mollys, and Charmie!
google avatar

Yelp
Thursday Night Karaoke + Guinness = All Things Good! Bring your friends and come drink and sing and drink some more.

Chris P.

Yelp
This place is great! If you're drinking and hungry they have several crock pots going with various foods, let me tell you, the other night it was a life saver! (The drinks are awesome too!)
google avatar

Ed M.

Yelp
Best bar keeps and brunch in town. Cannot say enough good things about the owner here. If you get there 5 minutes after they open, you're late.

Don G.

Yelp
Ok atmosphere, but if you are looking for food don't bother. Their kitchen is never open. I have tried a number of times. All times during the week.
google avatar

Katie O.

Yelp
Irish pub! I've had many a fun night here. Once upon a time they had karaoke on Thursday night (they might still have it). Good times, and good deals. I've never eaten here, but I hear the food is really good!
google avatar

Ron S.

Yelp
Some might say the only thing holding this pub back is it's small size. I say those people can go somewhere else. Molly Mag's is a bright and shining piece of Irish pub right in Upper Ballard. The true-to-style decor and atmosphere make for a great pub to meet friends at after a day at the grind. Dart boards with real darts and a pool table in the upper part make this a great place for a little friendly competition. The beers are great, the whiskeys are top-notch and the staff is always eager to suggest something new. Live music on the tiny stage livens up the joint with Irish takes on different styles of music and even regular old American stuff.
google avatar

Peter S.

Yelp
Molly's used to be a five star joint in my book, but about a month ago they changed the digital jukebox to a new one, and brought in a different pool table (from an 8' to a 7'), and both changes were negatives in my book. But they still fully earn the other four stars if you ask me! Great beer selection, and some of the true Irish/English/Scottish liquid offerings (like an awesome cider selection), very cool bar staff, good classic Irish foods, 1 and a 1/2 REAL steel-tip dart boards (the "1/2" comes from the second dart board which is in need of repair) which are oh so hard to find these days, but fully appreciated when they are found, and last but not least, a good lively crowd most every night, along with a hand full of weekly activity nights to keep the customers coming back. Whew!! Seriously, try saying all that in one breath... I've been playing in their weekly pool tournament for maybe four months now, and its one of the 'funnest' tournaments you'll find in town! The players are a great mix of guys and gals, mostly in their 20's and early 30's, and most take the tournament only half serious, at least compared to most other zip-lip tourneys... here you'll find the jukebox playing Michael Jackson and Queen, and half the people dancing... while a game is being played five feet away! But everyone loves it!! Its a rare environment to play pool in, and I can't stop going every week. Don't go to play in the tournament, however, if you are a serious player who will get annoyed and/or mad because people are dancing and having fun all around you... sorry, but you're not our type. Okay, back to the bar... so, as Irish pubs and such tend to go, how many are owned and run by people who are actually from the UK? How many of those places actually have a regular clientele that is from the UK? Well, Molly's does.... so I guess that speaks volumes about the type of place it is, or at least to me it does...
google avatar

Paul R.

Yelp
Really good local Irish Pub. I cannot think of a reason for others to go there unless they were coming to meet friends who lived in the neighborhood. Average food, full bar, fair prices.
google avatar

Lacey H.

Yelp
I love Mollys! You walk in an immediately get this neighborhood pub feel (cause that's what it is!). If they have live music it's usually pretty good! Food has never been great, but the beer and alcohol selection makes up for it! Always great bartenders and on a friday/saturday night the place is usually busy! Don't bring a large group on the weekends, unless you are ok standing for the night. The place isn't too big and there aren't a ton of tables. I've gone there twice for "date nights" during the week days and it's a great spot if you want to talk over a beer!
google avatar

Dina P.

Yelp
I was here with friends a couple of weeks ago for their quiz night. It was pretty fun, although we usually go out on a different night so we haven't been able to come back since. Two things: 1. If I remember correctly, there was footie playing on one of the TV's, which: YES. That is how it should be. 2. Get a Shepherd's Pie. I couldn't finish mine alone, but dear God, it is sooooo good!
google avatar

Ann W.

Yelp
What can I say...Love at first site! Great bar tending, great band (The Unoriginals) and great crowd! Stumbled in on a Saturday night and was pleasantly surprised to find a new local pub to love, adore and frequent! The amused bartender graciously made our drink of choice; the Bad Decision (tequila and cranberry with a twist of lime). After several Bad Decisions, we decided to start playing tambourine and cowbell with the band! Most places would have probably kicked us at this point, but the crowd and band was obliging! A good time was had by all, but mostly me!
google avatar

Amanda S.

Yelp
Wandered in here randomly and was pleasantly surprised to find friendly people, great atmosphere, and attentive bar staff. The live music that night was pretty good too; a cover band called the Unoriginals. The only thing that was missing really was percussion. Worry not, my friends show up tambourines in tow. Imagine my delight when the random bar flies in the corner suddenly pulled out a cow bell. Why wouldn't you bring a cow bell out on a Saturday night? I'm sold. All in all it was a pleasant experience, even after Drunky McDrunkerson got a little too handsy in my dance area!

Yelp
Karaoke every Thursday with Steve the KJ -- it Rocks Me Like a Hurricane!!!!!!!!
google avatar

David B.

Yelp
I want to like this bar more, but the customers really ruin this place for me. I do go here for football games, but outside of that, I usually avoid it. The bar itself is awesome, I just can't stand their clientele
google avatar

gretchen m.

Yelp
Very traditional and local. Food is good esp the shepherds pie. We enjoy it.
google avatar

mike d.

Yelp
Perfect. Small irish pub. very nice people there. I used to go every 2nd and 4th Tuesday for an open pool tournament. In fact, maybe I should get over there sometime soon!
google avatar

Leeland W.

Yelp
Owned by the same people as The Ould Triangle. I like this as much as The Ould Triangle but it seems more people are in this one. It might just be because it is smaller. The one thing I notice the most is that the Guinness tastes tinny it is the damnest thing. I love the fact that you face the bar mirrors in such a way, and that the veneer feels like I'm back in Boston. Only Difference is the fact that Seattlites are so much more quiet. The same people as The Ould Triangle make it so that I just head to whatever one I'm closer to. Don't tell anyone I always make up an excuse to get to this one.
google avatar

Danika M.

Yelp
This bar was pretty empty... Not really a very stimulating atmosphere, but that's okay. It just prompted me to drink a little bit too much, and I fell off my chair (Embarassing, but I'm okay now...)
google avatar

Sean F.

Yelp
You wouldn't guess it, but I'm 1/16th Irish. My BAC therefore hovers perpetually around 0.04%. I like Molly Maguires because I am usually the most sober person there.

Steve C.

Yelp
All around awesome place. The staff is friendly, the drinks are not outrageously expensive, and a fun, no frills place to hangout with your friends. This place has been around for a long time, and as a old timer Seatlleite, I hope it stays!
google avatar

Mariana B.

Yelp
This place is purdy good on Thursday's, Karaoke night. The only other times I've been it's been either dead or with so-so live music. Sounds like there's some trivia that I might need to check out.
