Molly's Cupcakes Review - West Village - New York - The Infatuation

"Molly’s Cupcakes in the West Village doubles as a secretly awesome place to get work done or have an extremely casual date thanks to a combination of plentiful seating, fast WiFi, and board games. They also make some of our favorite cupcakes in the city. There are always 15 center-filled options available, a rotating seasonal selection, and a handful of vegan options. We especially love the creme brulee cupcake since it comes sans frosting, but with a pastry cream filling and a crackly burnt sugar top. If you want something a little more intense, there’s a peanut butter-filled chocolate cupcake that tastes like a giant peanut butter cup." - Carina Finn

some of the best cupcakes around. with a ton of flavours, you really can’t go wrong! (but i’d recommend you try out their crème brûlée cupcake: a blissful marriage of vanilla cake, sweet custard, and fruit, with a caramelized crunch to top it off)

Would do 10 stars if I could! The chocolate decadence cup cake was out of this world delicious! Truly the best cup cake EVER - and I’ve had many!! This little shop is decorated with school motif, including wood swings at the front counter, lockers in the back and school desks for tables. Plus a brilliant person made an incredible chemistry centric drawing on the huge chalk board!

Molly’s may be famous for their cupcakes, but their cakes are equally delicious! What’s really cool is you can actually turn your favorite cupcake flavor into a full-sized cake. Molly’s cakes have become a true staple in our family, we’ve used them for so many milestones: our gender reveal, baby dedication, and my daughter’s birthdays. They’ve been a part of all our celebrations, and we wouldn’t have it any other way! Our ultimate favorite is their crème brûlée cake.. so good we always order it, whether from the Streeterville or Lincoln Park location. For the size and quality, the cakes are very reasonably priced and most importantly, they taste amazing. If you’re looking for a cake that’s just as memorable as your occasion, Molly’s never disappoints. See photos below for proof of how gorgeous (and yummy) their cakes are! 🎂🧁🍰

Molly’s Cupcakes is one of the cutest bakeries I’ve seen in a long time, and bonus…they have a gluten-free option! Their space is very creative, with swings for barstools, old desktops for tables, and actual, real-live books to look at while you enjoy your treats. I would recommend it as a place to take your child, a place for a date, or a place to treat yourself, which is exactly what I did.

Discovered Molly’s Cupcakes while wandering near Navy Pier — what a sweet little gem of a café! They’ve got an awesome variety of cupcakes to choose from — classic flavors, seasonal specials, and even a few fun surprises (I tried a milk cake based). Bonus: you can actually customize your cupcake — frostings, toppings, the whole deal. It’s like a DIY dessert dream for adults 😄 They also serve a pretty decent cup of coffee, which pairs perfectly with the sweets. The café itself is really cute with cool, laid-back vibes and plenty of seating to relax and catch up with friends or take a break from sightseeing. Definitely good value for money — the cupcakes are fresh, generously sized, and worth every bite. Staff were friendly and patient (especially when I took forever to decide 😂). Only downside: there’s a small step at the entrance, so it’s not super stroller or wheelchair friendly, which might be tricky for some visitors. But aside from that, it’s a lovely stop if you’re in the area and craving something sweet! Will definitely be coming back next time I’m downtown.

Came to this cute little cupcake spot in way back from pier. The service and vibe were very quaint and cute but sadly the cupcakes lacked flavor. They were very well presented though. I will say the Hispanic music was a little too loud to really enjoy the view and conversation amongst ourselves.

Google
Atmosphere was pretty chill. Nice music playing, cool Air… nice vibe . Cupcakes was sooooo good. I didn’t want to eat all in one sitting . Didn’t get a chance to bite into my brownie but I’m pretty sure it’s delicious!

This bakery caught my eye after having dinner next door. Something sweet hate to see me coming haha. There was a vast variety of different cupcakes and although full, still ended up leaving with about 6 cupcakes that really hit the spot. My fav was this peach cobbler cupcake that was utterly amazing. The staff was very friendly and even recommended which cupcakes were most popular. Will definitely be back to try the rest I didn’t get to try!

This was a nice surprise as I was on my way to the Navy pier. After having a deep dish pizza on the pier, we walked back to Molly‘s cupcake. The atmosphere had a nice vibe. I really like the swings at the counter. They had quite a few selections of cupcake flavors to choose from. We ordered the salted caramel butterscotch cupcake, cake batter, and a peanut butter, flavored cupcake. I cannot remember the exact name. I definitely enjoyed the flavor of the Butterscotch cupcakes. The taste of butterscotch came through well and it wasn’t too overly sweet. The cupcake sponge was light and airy. The peanut butter cupcake was also very pleasant. My least favorite was the cake batter cupcake.

Yelp
Molly's Cupcakes in Chicago is a true dessert haven! My boyfriend and I decided to grab a 6-pack during our visit, and every single cupcake was nothing short of perfection. The filled cupcakes were the real stars--each one was moist, flavorful, and generously packed with delicious fillings that added the perfect surprise in every bite. From classic flavors to creative combinations, they nailed every single one. Service was amazing. The shop itself has such a cozy, welcoming vibe, making it a great spot to grab a treat and enjoy the moment. Whether you're a local or just visiting, Molly's Cupcakes is a must-visit for anyone with a sweet tooth. We'll definitely be back on our next trip!

Yelp
Truly one of a kind cupcakes with unique flavors, creative fillings, and perfect textures that make every bite a surprise. Whether you go for a classic like red velvet or something adventurous, each cupcake feels thoughtfully crafted and absolutely delicious. The interior adds to the charm, with its cozy atmosphere that make it a great place to unwind. Eat in or take out for a special someone on their birthday! -AT

Yelp
Yummmmmmy yummy yummy! Fabulous cupcake shop in a fabulous location! I had tried the Cake Batter Filled cupcake and was floored at how good it was! It was the frosting... the texture. It was everything and more! Plenty of space for seating/standing and they also have a bathroom where you have to request a key, which is good to ensure they keep the bathroom clean. Will return to try other flavors!

Yelp
I've been to other Molly's cupcakes locations but hadn't been for years! My husband picked us up a butterscotch caramel cupcake and a French silk pie. They have a huge variety! We both agreed the caramel one had too much filling, but the mini French silk pie was perfect! Glad we were able to meet our sweet tooth needs here!

Yelp
Cute shop with a variety of cupcake flavors! We tried the blueberry cheesecake and the red velvet...yum!

Yelp
Stopped here on our way back from Navy Pier on a whim. So yummy! We had the Oreo cheesecake and the Oreo crust was perfect. I'd never had crust on a cupcake, loved it. Would definitely come back to try something else! Quick, friendly service with a cute ambiance. Didn't feel rushed out at all.

Yelp
You *cannot* visit Chicago without trekking over to Molly's! With an impressive array of inventive cupcake flavors and outstanding quality, Molly's easily ranks among the best bakeries in the city. Having frequented the shop possibly too many times, I have tried most of their cupcake flavors and none have disappointed. The cake is consistently moist and light, frosting soft and airy, and cupcake filling generous in the varieties that have it. My favorites include the peaches and cream, cake batter (filled with actual cake batter!), dulce de leche, and lemon, but you can't go wrong with any! They also offer vegan options that are excellent. Can't recommend Molly's enough- whether you're traveling from near or far, you won't regret paying a visit to this iconic spot!

Yelp
This is definitely one of our favorite cupcake spots in town! The red velvet lava, creme brulee and blueberry cheesecake never fail to amaze. Always a great birthday treat to give others. If you haven't tried Molly's, youre missing out!

Yelp
Great location for a cupcake shop. The selection is fantastic. I just had a chocolate raspberry cupcake and it was very good. The lady behind the counter was helpful and make some good recommendations. There is a small dinning area where customer can enjoy coffee and their sweet deserts.
google avatar

Yutin Z.

Yelp
Decided to stop by and grab a cupcake after seeing a sign outside about them on Cupcake Wars and the cupcake did not disappoint! When I saw that they had a key lime flavor, I knew I had to try it! They had many other flavors that looked yummy as well. It was really good, the was a nice custard filling that was not too sweet or too tart. The frosting was not overly sweet and the graham cracker crust provided some nice flavor/texture. Lots of seating inside as well making it a great place to hangout with friends or family!

Yelp
Great dessert spot!!! My friends and I stopped in on a Friday night around 9 and they still had plenty of options left. It wasn't crowded either and the staff gave great recommendations. We tried cake batter, peach cobbler, blueberry cheesecake and a chocolate cake truffle. My favorite was the blueberry cheesecake, the toppings on it made it so good along with the icing. I also loved the chocolate cake truffle; it was super rich and the perfect amount of chocolate to satisfy the craving I was having. My least favorite was the cake batter because I didn't realize it had whipped cream icing on it. I also thought it was airier than the blueberry cheesecake which was denser. It was so hard to make a decision when I was ordering, so I can't wait to go back and eventually try all the flavors.

Yelp
I love this cute little cupcake shop! It's super convenient to a family members residence so it's always a stop on the way back for the night after a day of wandering around downtown. I'm gluten free and I love that there are gluten free options. Their cupcakes are so good and are also super cute!

Ashley W.

Yelp
Came in because my daughter kept asking for cupcakes and disappointment is not the word! I ordered a s'more cupcake and a cake batter cupcake. The s'more cupcake tasted like cleaning product! It was also very soggy there wasn't even a bottom when I took the paper off it was just the filling and the cake texture was grainy and really off putting. I took a big bite and regret it the cleaning essence has giving me a headache..my daughter's cake batter cupcake was also very soggy...too much oil!! I tasted it and the flavor is off in the cake even a three year old didn't eat it!! Cupcakes are supposed to bring happiness we got the opposite!! This was my first and last time at this location!!
google avatar

Selina H.

Yelp
I don't know who Molly is but she makes some damn good cupcakes!! We got the crème brûlée and tiramisu and the crème brûlée was definitely our favorite! The tiramisu would've been better if it was sweeter, but it was more on the bitter chocolate side. Both cupcakes were perfectly moist and soft. I wish we got more flavors to try! Will definitely be coming back the next time I'm in Chicago. Parking is hard so I just got dropped off and ran in real quick. Service is fast so it's not a problem.

Yelp
Ordered from here for cupcakes for my kiddos birthday parties and was very disappointed at the presentation of these cupcakes. The frosting was falling off and it just seemed like they just wanted to get it done with since we were the last order of the day. Disappointed with this turn out and the sloppy work.
google avatar

Stephanie A.

Yelp
A staple cupcake shop in Chicago. Happy they expanded to the suburbs area as well! Ron Bennington is my absolute favorite (chocolate and peanut butter) The staff is always friendly and helpful. Can get busy and crowded at times but if you find a good time, you can go in and out in less than 5 minutes
google avatar

Monica A.

Yelp
Ordered a few cupcakes for a morning happy birthday surprise. Got the Peanutbutter Nutella , Creme Crme Brûlée. Absolutely delicious! I was pleasantly surprised that they had the option to add the small happy birthday sign and a small candle. That saved me another trip to the store and the price was fair. The packaging was sturdy and the cupcakes made it intact, they survived Uber eats delivery!! Peanutbutter Nutella was good but Creme Crme Brûlée was the star ! I've never imagined crème brûlée in a cupcake! Absolutely delicious! Thank you , Molly's Cupcakes!
google avatar

Yelp
Mollys got the magic! This was one of the best cupcakes I've had in a long time. They offer many flavors and compositions and I truly chose some at random and they really hit the spot. Key lime , smores, double chocolate Seriously, y'all about to turn this savory snacker into a desserts girly. They have plenty of seating, and coffee + other beverages as well. Service was sleepy but nice enough. The interiors of the bake shop are cool and outfitted with vintage school furniture. Super cute, grab a window seat and enjoy a little treat.
google avatar

Celina S.

Yelp
Yummy cupcakes with fun flavors! I thought both the red velvet and salted caramel ones we got were moist and had a nice frosting / filling. It's SOOOOOO sweet though, the kind that stays in your mouth forever and makes you thirsty
google avatar

Monica N.

Yelp
We ended up getting delivery and the service was great! It was easy to order online with picking our cupcakes and having the physical delivery being left at our door. The actual spot in Streeterville is worth checking out if you're in the area - the staff is overall very helpful and everything is nicely displayed. We opted to get the Raas Mail cupcakes for Diwali (featured in the picture) and my goodness!! It was worth every penny. I even had a friend end up getting one after I raved about it and she loved it as well. The flavors make the cupcake not too sweet but just sweet enough. The seasonal pecan cupcake was so so yummy as well! The tres leches cupcake was okay and I probably wouldn't get it again - it was missing that soaked yumminess of a tres leches cake.
google avatar

Amelia B.

Yelp
Ordered a 6 pack assortment of the bestsellers for a friend's birthday. Everyone loved the cupcakes! Perfect ratio of frosting and super tasty, unique flavors. Super easy to order online and pick up, or you can order in and sit at a table to enjoy.
google avatar

Rosalba V.

Yelp
I ordered some cupcakes as a special treat and to say they were tasty is an understatement. They do a great job of having different themes to decorate the cupcakes and they always taste as good as they look.
google avatar

Mayuri A.

Yelp
I love Molly's cupcakes. The main stir for this store started when they won the first season of the cupcake wars. I love their seasonal cupcakes. The ambiance is fun and casual. They have a mini swing at this store as well, so much fun! The service is fast. I love the creme brûlée and s'mores cupcakes the most. The cupcakes are moist and flavorful. The flavoring doesn't taste artificial either. One thing I noticed though, is that the frosting melts off rather quickly during hot days. Do try their famous peach cobbler cupcake!

Yelp
Seriously, Molly's has to be my favorite cupcake shop in the Greater Chicagoland area. When I visit any of their locations I always feel like a kid, except I have my own money to spend! LOL! The River East (Streeterville) location is near my workplace where I can easily stop by before my drive home. However, depending on the time of day, you have to hunt for a park. Well today, I had some afternoon PTO, and while driving in the area, there were two parking spaces available. I was quick to grab one! Although it's the beginning of March, the flavor of the month carried over from Valentine's Day. The first option was the VelvetBerry Cheesecake, which has red velvet cake with cheesecake baked inside, plus strawberry cream cheese frosting and topped with dehydrated strawberry powder. I don't like red velvet cake of any sort, so I skipped that one. The second option and the one I choose was the Berry-In Luv, which has strawberry cake, white chocolate mousse filling dipped in ruby chocolate ganache, topped with a strawberry buttercream frosting and a red heart! Yes it was a lot going on, but my tastebuds were super happy. I got 3 more traditional cupcakes for my home. The Peach Cobbler - you can never go wrong with this cupcake. No matter how many I purchase, I always get this one. LOL! I also got the hubby the Cookies and Cream and Samoa. All in all, my afternoon was joyous because I was able to get a great parking spot and visit my favorite cupcake shop!

Yelp
This Molly's location has the best cupcakes. Always fresh! I recently had their coffee and that was also a hit. I had their vanilla latte which was very rich in flavor. Great customer service and great location.
google avatar

Michelle W.

Yelp
SO GOOD! I am not a big cupcake person because frosting is too sweet, but Molly's blew me away. I tried the crème brûlée, peach cobbler, and speciality mango cupcakes, all of which were filled. The crème brûlée was by far the favorite! Hardened sugar too with a custard filling inside. I love that these cupcakes didn't use frosting, but instead a whipped topping making it less sweet and heavy! Highly recommend yum!
google avatar

Suzanne N.

Yelp
The cupcakes are AlWAYS perfect! The flavors are spot on. The staff are friendly. This is also a great location with ample seating, books, and games.
google avatar

Yelp
You cant go wrong with this spot! It is very spacious inside for a cupcake shop! This place is cute and the atmosphere is welcoming with plenty of seating and board games to play and the staff is friendly! These cupcakes are absolutely delicious. I got the creme brulee which was everything i hope for and more. We also got carrot cake with creme cheese frosting and two cookies. I dont know what else to say, but these baked goods are fantastic, moist, flavorful. What a great way to satisfy a sweet tooth!

Yelp
Molly's has always been my favorite cupcake shop!!! They never let me down when I had a sugar craving! I moved to LA in 2020. I flew into Chicago today and my first stop was Molly's! Of course! This review pains me to write because I was really disappointed today. I decided to go with 5 cupcakes (strawberry shortcake, Cookie Monster, peach cobbler, carrot cake with brown sugar frosting, mango mamba). The mango mamba was good, but I was hoping for a stronger mango flavor. The peach cobbler has changed slightly since I remember. The frosting design is different and there's just one small piece of peach on top when before it used to be a big slice. The center actually had bits of peach though. This is my favorite cupcake and it tasted just as delicious as I remember. Now onto the bad. The Cookie Monster, the strawberry shortcake and the carrot cake were all so dry, the frosting was HARD, and you could tell they were old! I was sooo incredibly disappointed by this! I've had these cupcakes before so I know what they should taste like and how the texture should be like! Inconsistency will def lose me as a customer and I really hope that's not the case with Molly's!
google avatar

Anne S.

Yelp
We live right next door and come here on weekends a fair amount. The venue is beautiful with high ceilings and lots of shared communal tables. There are board games. The service is helpful even though they always have a lot of traffic. The coffee is ok. The cupcakes are over sweetened, with lots of extra toppings and fillings that are overwhelming to the palate. It's the type of place where I buy a lot to give as presents but rarely eat.
google avatar

Briana N.

Yelp
Super yummy cupcakes! My personal favorite was the peach cobbler cupcake. Super light and fluffy, and the peach was so sweet and refreshing. I could have eaten so many of those. The red velvet lava was also really good but definitely heavier.

Nadja N.

Yelp
This place is amazing! I am not the biggest fan of cupcakes but I gave it a try because I walked around and saw an interesting vibe and this is one of the best places I have ever been to! SERVICE is AMAZING!!! People are extremely sweet! Cupcakes are EVEN better! I tried 5 different flavors and you can't go wrong!

Yelp
Back in 2019, we were checking out Chicago and stumbled upon this cupcake place after dinner. We decided to check it out. We are so glad we checked this out. Ambiance: Cute bakery, clean, modern, and unique. They had swings you could sit down on and relax while eating your gourmet cupcake or coffee drink. Service: The cashier was friendly and welcomed us as this was the first time visiting this establishment. So many choices to choose from. It was so hard as they all looked so yummy and delicious. We chose the Boston Creme and the Key Lime. Both were so delicious!
google avatar

Michele B.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this Gem Now who doesn't like a cupcake The decor and ambience are so chic and cute At the bar area they have 3 swings I was in girl heaven The display case was brightly lit...showing off the design of each cupcake I ordered a half dozen S'more, Banana Pudding, Strawberry Cheese Cake, Peach Cobbler, Blueberry Cheesecake and Red Velvet Cake I was really impressed with each...my favorite was the Banana pudding While eating the desserts we played several board games... which made the stop so much fun Please stop by and check them out They also play a variety of music which makes the visit even more memorable
google avatar

Luis R.

Yelp
I stopped by while walking to Navy Pier for a quick bite and some coffee.I ordered an espresso and a peach cobbler cupcake. The service was quick and friendly. The peach cobbler cupcake was really good, moist, and surprisingly not too sweet. It had a good ratio of filling inside of the cake, and i was pretty delicious. I'd definitely drop by here again to try some other flabors. The espresso that I got was also very good.
google avatar

Christina S.

Yelp
This is my favorite Molly's Cupcakes Shop in Chicago. FYI-they now offer Doggy Birthday Cakes and Cookies for your dog. They always have the monthly featured cupcakes and other flavors-center filled that are often unavailable at the other two locations. The staff is always attentive with more than one team member helping customers which makes the line move quickly. I love the swings and the open spaced table options by the front windows.
google avatar

Simran S.

Yelp
Mollys cupcake is the perfect go to for a dessert craving. The cupcakes have a surprise lovely filling on the inside and they are just the right amount of sweet. I've probably tried every flavour on their menu but some of my favourites are - s'mores, Boston cream, red velvet. Would recommend getting a box of 4 or 6 to get the most value and also taste the most flavours. Service is always quick! They aren't too crowded.
google avatar

Morgan P.

Yelp
never misses! great to bring to a party or just enjoy by yourself the filling is always so good and the cupcakes are always fresh they do hold well so you can keep in the fridge overnight if needed. Mollys is always a huge hit for a reason they are probably the best cupcake i've ever had
google avatar

Yelp
Solely based on service. Walked in at 9:20pm and ordered a cold coffee, They said "sorry we are not making coffee anymore, we are closing" They close at 10pm
google avatar

Ruchi A.

Yelp
So good! Tried the rose ras malai cupcake and it was amazing!!! A bit sweet but can't wait to go back! The staff was also really nice and helpful!

Yelp
So glad I stopped here on my way to the Navy Pier. I have a mean sweet tooth, and this place definitely caught my eye. I love the decor and bright, welcoming atmosphere. Also it's really neat that a lot of the area is school-themed (desk seats, a pencil sharpener on one of the pillars still, etc). And the cupcakes, of course, it was amazing they have a create your own option, which I was tempted to get especially with a mini size available, but then I saw the creme brulee cupcake, and even though it was a regular portion, I knew I had to try it. It was delicious- the right amount of sweet, and the cupcake itself, while heavy, was still really moist and packed with flavor. I would definitely return to try some more flavors. Staff was nice and friendly too.
google avatar

Elle Z.

Yelp
I was there with a very large group on Sat morning. They have a lot of cupcakes and other pastries. I am unable to eat it. I have nut allergies, so makes sense to avoid I ordered a small hot cocoa... milk and enveloped hit cocoa and it was $3.91 with tax. I found it funny that they said if I pay with cash, they don't give any change. Maybe deterring customers from using green and maybe trying to get use plastic. The hot cocoa wasn't better than I make at home. I use lactose-free, tho. Too bad cafe shops still don't offer that option. The large group, many ate cupcakes and raved, so I guess delish. Clean place, lots of tables, big area to mingle. Although I would not return (nothing of interest for me) many enjoyed!!
google avatar

Elizabeth X.

Yelp
Great fun cupcake selection! I enjoyed both cupcakes I got. Quick, friendly service.

Hayley B.

Yelp
Absolutely beautiful cakes! We ordered personalized cupcakes for a private event and they were perfect! Thoroughly recommended. Great communication and online payment and fast delivery. Thank you Mollys Cupcakes!

Yelp
The sweat treats at Molly's are always delicious and satisfy that sweet tooth craving. The cupcakes are definitely the stars of the show and I love that they have delicious seasonal flavors like the Key Lime cupcake in the summer. Favorites of mine include the raspberry chocolate as this is one of my favorite combinations, salted caramel with the goey caramel center, creme brûlée, cookie dough, and chocolate decadence. Molly's also has other treats including cookies, brownies, krispies, cheesecakes, and chocolate covered strawberries. They have a flavor for any preference and if you need any help the staff is always friendly and available to ask any questions and provide recommendations. Definitely worth a stop if you are craving something sweet and in the area.
google avatar

Yelp
Super cool and beautiful space with SWINGS at the bar! The cupcakes and coffee were absolutely delicious and the server gave us a candle since it was my 9 yo's birthday. We will definitely return every time we are in Chicago!
google avatar

Jaclyn M.

Yelp
I love this place!!! The chocolate covered strawberries and truffles are delish! I tried the m&m cookie also which was very good.
google avatar

Natosha M.

Yelp
I've always ordered from this location but never dined in. Today I chose to dine in and have a few cupcakes. There was a line but service was pretty fast. Staff got everyone in and out the line quickly. I love the ambience, they have a bookshelf with books and games that you can play. That's a very unique touch. I got my favorite cupcake which is the creme brûlée. It never disappoints!! I also tried a carrot cupcake for the first time. It wasn't nasty but I'll say I'm not a fan lol.
google avatar

Eilleen L.

Yelp
It's no secret I love Molly's. If it's nearby, I must pickup cupcakes. Yesterday was no exception. I picked up 2 of my favorites, creme bruele and Ron Bennington. Ron Bennington was not in the display, so I asked if they were out. The employee told me they had them and grabbed my cupcake off the rack. So if you don't see the flavor you want, ask! They may have it. Service was great. The ladies were friendly and kind!
