The 12 Best Affordable Restaurants in Phoenix, Arizona | Eater Phoenix

"Located in a small strip mall, Molly’s Thai Ban is a mom-and-pop joint carry several different entrees with generous portions. Don’t pass up the papaya salad — made with plenty of veggies and a spicy and sweet dressing that has the right amount of bite. Tom Yum soup, pad Thai, and lo mein can be split between large families for under $30. For those who like their food spicy, be careful about the spice designation. Medium spicy can actually be hot — tread carefully. To-go orders are ready for pick-up within 15 to 20 minutes of calling." - McConnell Quinn

Thinking about Thai food and gave this place a try. Tried basil fried rice and parang curry. Large portion sizes for start with. They didn’t skimp out on veggies or tofu. Pretty good. Taste is good but may not be the best we tried. Panang curry is a bit too sweet. And special thanks for customizing by not adding any animal sauces. Ambiance is simple. Plenty of parking

Just finished eating and it was excellent we came in at lunch and it was packed. There was a small table open we sat down and water and menu came pretty quick, ordered took less than 10 minutes. It was delicious and everyone was very nice, will be going back ! Just visited Molly’s again it was so good last time we had to come back but this time we ordered from the regular menu because we wanted more leftovers. Don’t get me wrong the lunch specials gives you plenty of food and a great price but for a few dollars more you can have leftovers for a couple of days and if it’s possible it’s even better. I got the Orange Chicken no spice and my wife got the Green Curry Veggie #3 and Drunken Noodles Veggie #2

This is hidden gem is a great Thai spot. It doesn't look from the looks of it but what a place! We went here for a lunch on a Wednesday afternoon. It was quiet and had a regular lunch crowd. They brought in the soup and spring roll as we were seated. The soup hot and spring roll fresh, it was one of the best freebie we have tried. The soup was delicious and had a great flavor with right amount of spice. We went with drunken noodles, fried rice and pad see eww. The entrees were really good, drunken noodles was excellent, fried rice just alright. The portion however is huge and we had to do a to go. The pricing is very decent too! A good lunch spot and a great option to keep in your kitty.

We visited this restaurant for the first time this past week for lunch at the recommendation of a neighbor. It did not disappoint! Though the restaurant is small, I preferred it that way. It was easy to have a conversation without a lot of extra noise. I ordered a pot of the Thom Ka Gai soup and it was truly delicious. One of the better versions I've had over the years (it's my favorite soup). They didn't skimp on the galangal leaves or lemongrass and it just gave wonderful flavor to the pot. It also tasted fresh and not at all like I've had at other Thai restaurants where it tasted like it had been sitting on the stove for hours, past its prime. This pot was good! My husband ordered the orange chicken and enjoyed it as well. I also tried the Panang Curry, another favorite of mine. It was very good! The portions were solid, which was great as I love taking some home to eat the next day! Prices were not over inflated. They were fair! We will definitely be back!

Google
Genuinely the best food I’ve ever had in my life. The owner Brock makes the place amazing, and his wife is the best chef on this planet. Don’t go to any other Thai restaurants, go to Molly’s Thai Ban.

Google
Very friendly staff and even friendlier customers. We tried this place for the first time and 2 different groups of customers told us their favorite meals (unprompted). So I ordered the yellow curry as 2 people said it was their favorite. Good flavors.

Google
What can I say about Molly's Thai Ban? But that it is the best Thai food you'll have! Not even exaggerating! Been to several Thai restaurants from L.A to Texas to Phoenix but this little restaurant is a gem. A hole in the wall that will not disappoint you. The service is great. The food is great. And I'm sure the people that you'll share a meal will be great! Give Molly's a try, you won't regret it!

Yelp
I read the reviews for this place and was not let down!! I ordered from uber eats so I cannot speak to the inside of the restaurant but the food was fantastic!!!! The portions were HUGE. We ordered crab Rangoons, Tom yum, garlic and black pepper shrimp & pad Thai. Normally when I find a Thai place that says "Thai hot" it's never as spicy as I want it. I ordered these "double Thai hot" just in case and was very impressed. My Tom yum soup was like drinking lava!!! The flavors were excellent. 5/5. This is my new go-to spot. Thank you.

Yelp
Love this place, every time I' am on this side of town. This is my go to Thai spot. Looks and feels like a mom and pop joint. I always see the same people when I pick up my food. I am more of a take Thai food home and have left overs kinda girl. Being a vegetarian, this place offers "mock chicken." You can add it to any dish instead of meat or fish. I highly recommend it, it's the reason I tried this place maybe two years ago now. Anyway I ordered food last night and I was reminded how delicious it is. Compliments to the chef... Add this to your list. Yum!

Yelp
First time here and I got the mixed seafood spicy eggplant. I asked for mild heat level, but now I know I probably should have gone with medium. My mouth didn't taste any heat, but it was there cuz my nose was running. The food was tasty. There was a good amount of seafood (fish, mussels, calamari, shrimp) in the dish. I ordered to go, but the restaurant was clean and service was friendly. It's conveniently located near my new doctor and a crystal shop so two bonuses for me. The restaurant was clean and the atmosphere was inviting. I would definitely eat here again. I wouldn't mind eating inside, either, but I was on a time crunch the day I stopped in.

Yelp
First time at Molly's Thai Ban. Was getting my cell phone fixed in the shopping center. Had an hour to kill so I asked the tech how the Thai Restaurant was? He said he never had Thai food so figured we both would try it. Early weekday lunch so I ordered one of the Chef's Special the Ginger Fantasy. Ordered Drunken Noodles & Chicken to go for the Tech. Not too crowded in the dining room, but they had a lot of food delivery orders coming in. The Ginger Fantasy had chicken, beef, pork and shrimp. Very tasty and needed a to-go box. Delivered the drunken noodles to my tech and left. Menu is large and noticed lots of curry and noodle dishes. First time I saw a Double Thai Hot option for spice level. Only ordered the mild for the Thai Food Novice with the Drunken Noodles. Happy to find a family owned restaurant in the neighborhood. Will try it again. Did my good deed for that day. .

James D.

Yelp
Always great food. I don't normally stray from my one dish, but now I have 3 more at Molly's! Massaman and Panang curries and the Ginger Angel has been my new favourites. Pad Thai and Broccoli Noodles are also good with medium heat.

Yelp
The food is amazing and the portions are large. It's our favorite Thai restaurant ever. The staff is super friendly.

Yelp
Food is always good. We do take out a lot. The coconut ice cream is some of the best we've had.

Yelp
Ordered the garlic and pepper chicken with crab rangoons . I didn't enjoy it at all the total was $23.50 . The people are niceand the flavor is really lacking . I was expecting some type of thicker pepper sauce with garlic . Meat and veggie just sitting in soup water with garlic thrown on top of boiled chicken . For sure won't be back .

Yelp
I ate here 2 weeks in a row and both times I ended up having and upset stomach and diarrhea. I didn't think it was the food, which I why I went back again. The second time myself and my son were sick.

Yelp
Best Thai chicken fried rice in north Phoenix! Also the tum yum soup is delicious. Always my go to twice a month for Thai !

Yelp
Just discovered this little gem. Prices are very reasonable, and the food is excellent. This is a quiet restaurant, not a lot of people here on a Saturday evening, but a steady stream of to-go orders are being picked up. Love the service, food was served hot off the grill. I ordered the combo satay, tai coffee and one of the chef's special; clay pot shrimp. Everything has complex and unique flavors, best Thai food I remember having. Portions are very generous. 10/5 stars. Glad I found this place.

Yelp
We absolutely love this restaurant! We love the Thai food, fresh, yummy and perfect portions. Highly recommend!

Yelp
We're 2 1/2 hours SSE in Tucson. But we've had great meals at Molly's when we do get up to Phoenix...still good choices on the menu...as we don't eat poultry, pork or beef.

Terray K.

Yelp
Was looking forward to trying this place from the good reviews. I won't be back despite it being close to my new home. The worst panang curry I've ever had. It was so watery and lacked much flavor. The summer rolls had full leaves of romaine, with hardly any herbs. They're huge, but the entire thing is mostly lettuce. The peanut sauce to dip them in was the worst version of peanut sauce I've ever had. It tasted like they added 3x as much sugar as they were supposed to and was like gelatin.

Yelp
Tucked away in a small strip mall at 36th St/Bell, Molly's is one of the best Thai restaurants my guy and I have ever visited. Very extensive menu. Yummy appetizers and the entrees we had were superb! Do yourself a favor and try them today! Service, food portions, quality were A+ The Mitchell's from Prescott

Rebekah K.

Yelp
We ordered food to go, so yummy!!! Service was fast and friendly, we'll definitely be back for more soon!

Yelp
This is my whole family's favorite Thai restaurant in North Phoenix. Great food, great people, great prices. We recommend it highly!
google avatar

Kyaa S.

Yelp
First time trying this place it was honestly pretty decent! I was very happy with the prices and loved the fact that you could order a side peanut sauce for literally 1$!! I have never seen restaurants do that! We got chicken pad medium Thai and yellow curry! Medium as well! I will say pad Thai sauce was a bit salty but with the peanut sauce it helped blend it nicely!
google avatar

Yelp
So good. As long as you order traditional Thai food. I really like their Pad See Ew, Tom Kha and Red curry. Flavor is on point. The pad see ew is to miss and to die for! Don't order the Fish in two oceans. It's hard to explain but it's a small order, just fish fillet and tastes quite plain. They don't go together fried fillets and steamed fillets. They might need to consider take this off the menu and do something like the steam Baramundi w lime chilli sauce. I give them 5 stars still because their other traditional Thai food I ordered are beyond delicious.
google avatar

Jennifer B.

Yelp
This is one of the BEST Thai restaurants in town! The food is great, cooked to order and actually listens to spice requests! Whenever I'm feeling down I order Tom Kah soup and crab fried - this last time was extra good! Love love love!

Yelp
Loved this place!! I had read a few comments so I was kinda skeptical about ordering and I'm so glad I did a to go order anyway!! Everything was delivered Hot and the food was so Fresh!! I So many wonderful items The Panang Curry, Dumplings so delicious I also ordered the Pineapple Coconut ice cream and was so Please with the flavors!! I'm so sorry I have no pictures as I have been a bit under the west the past few days but I really enjoyed this meal and how authentic it tasted.I will definitely be visiting in person when I feel better.

Yelp
This hidden gem is a must! The food is absolutely delicious and the portions are large. I have decided this is my new favorite place to grab the best yellow curry! I'm very picky about curry and chicken (I hate old chicken) but this was tender and full of flavor, the vegetables, Amazing. The curry, amazing. I think they only use the best ingredients, fresh ingredients that are perfection. I know this because I asked about the mango sticky rice but the mangos weren't good enough to serve and I 100% respect that commitment to the integrity of ingredients. I'm obsessed with the egg rolls, I could eat 100 of them, delicious! I can't wait to go there again. It is so good I can't gate keep this place. If you're in the area or even if you're not, please stop and get something you won't be disappointed. PLUS it's a husband and wife team (I love small businesses and try to support them as much as I can) WOW can she cook! I seriously can't wait for that sticky rice next time I go. yum!

Yelp
The food here is spot on. It's just a little place. right off the 51 so good location. they have so many options and amazing lunch specials. I'm vegan and I habe many choices. The service isn't the best but let's be real we aren't coming here for that. the place is small but it is clean and not at all cluster or dirty. Great little pleace to check out. I have to say they are probably the best Thai I've had and trust me I've tried them all. Don't miss that place!

Yelp
This is our families go to neighborhood Thai restaurant! The portions here are very generous. The staff is always friendly. When we go to pick up our order we have always taken out orders to go and never have sat inside. Food great! Highly recommend for anyone in the area looking for Thai food!

Yelp
*Vegan review* Yeay! A Thai restaurant in North Phoenix that understands "vegan" and makes good food! There are so many Thai restaurants that list items as vegetarian but they use fish sauce or there is some shrimp, etc. in the curry paste. The staff at Molly's know their ingredients well and assured me that everything was free of random seafood items! I got my usual first time trying a place order - Panang with tofu. The flavors were great - fresh veggies and a nice clean curry. My only complaint is it wasn't spicy enough. I ordered it hot but it was more like mild. This may be just a me thing though. My husband got the garlic and black pepper wok item with tofu. Also good, but the garlic was a bit much for him (me: then why did you order a garilc-focused item?). We also tried the summer rolls, which were fine, and the mangos and sticky rice - which were awesome. Overall - a nice, "safe for vegans" spot in north Phoenix!

Yelp
I wanted a quick, delicious option for lunch, and I stumbled upon Molly's Thai ban. I ordered the Thai tea, beef panang curry, and gyoza. The Thai tea was really sweet for my liking, that I didn't enjoy as much. The beef panang curry was packed full of flavor, I ordered the medium spice because I didn't know how spicy their food could get. The medium spice panang curry had a little kick to it, I could go higher with the spice level next time. They offer a complimentary egg roll and soup, which was nice to have while waiting on my meal. Their chicken gyoza was just the way I like it, crispy on the outside, their dipping sauce was really good. The owners of the restaurant were great and gracious.

Yelp
I stopped in for lunch on a weekday. Along with Yelp reviews, Grub hub reviews were crazy high (4.8), so were my expectations. I ordered yellow curry, which came out boiling hot. I waited about 10 minutes before my first bite. A couple taste buds might have been damaged after my first bite, but my first impression was how sweet the curry was. I found it delicious, but my ideal curry would have more spice and flavour. Overall I'd come back for sure and try something else

Yelp
I really wanted to love this place after seeing good reviews and it being so close to my house. Unfortunately it did not deliver. We ordered 5 dishes and only two were decent. The pad Thai was inedible. So extremely mushy and smothered in way too much sauce. We asked for extra chili oil on the side and my husband who picked up the food even asked the worker if it was included to which his response was "it should be". Next time we will try a new Thai spot in hopes for better food and service.
google avatar

Yelp
So so good! Loved the food tonight. I'll be back to try more! Veggie pad Thai medium without egg was soooo good. My husband loved it. Will be back!

Yelp
Awesome as always! Went to the phoenix location and got to meet the owner and his wife, both amazing people and the food is even better!

Marvella F.

Yelp
We live locally and are very lucky to enjoy Molly's delicious Thai food weekly, for the past few years. Everything on the menu is amazing and just like eating in Thailand! I'm vegan and almost all the dishes can be made that way as you pick your own protein; they have tofu and mock chicken. I love the pumpkin curry, massaman curry, and eggplant thai basil. My husband usually orders seafood in yellow curry, but really everything is great. Don't forget dessert! Heads up, it's a family business and the dining room closes promptly at 8, so if you want to dine in, be there no later than 7. Not to be missed!
google avatar

Sharon B.

Yelp
Great food and service at this small restaurant in Phoenix. I had the Yellow curry, mild with chicken and my daughter has the pumpkin curry with tofu. We both enjoyed our meals. The portions were generous and the meals were flavorful, but not too hot. The service was quick and the servers friendly. We will definitely be going back!
google avatar

Lauri H.

Yelp
Last time I ordered, it seemed authentic. But this time it seemed like they opened a can of Pnang sauce, and colored a bunch of rice brown -for their House fried rice. Not many eggs there, shrimp seemed boiled and not much else. Sad.... Won't be ordering Door Dash fm here again.
google avatar

Justin P.

Yelp
Landed here on whim and we are so glad we did. This place is outstanding. Every customer in the place seemed totally pleased and thanked the chef.. Molly! We can't wait to go back

Sean A.

Yelp
Great Thai food. Service is a bit iffy since they might be short handed, but no one is ever rude. Value and quality of food is fantastic. Place is nice and clean and they care about keeping it clean. Just note that they may not be open certain days since it's just the owners and they needs a break every now and then. They used to be open all day and shut down between 3-4 PM. But I think lately they're just open a couple days a week, but the search says that they're open all day for takeout or delivery. I do hope that they survive. Tom Kha soup with chicken is absolutely fantastic and their red curry is absolutely tasty. Also Pad Thai Chicken is the best I've tasted in Phoenix.

Yelp
Amazingness on a plate is all I can say. We went here with a family of 3 and everyone was super satisfied. There was plenty of food, so we even took some leftover home. We had the Tom Ka with Chicken and Pad Thai with Chicken. Wow!! It was all Made fresh by Molly and wow wow wow!! Flavor amazing, heat to order. Lots of take out being made while maintaining a good speed for in restaurant diners. Thank you Molly. We will be back soo

Yelp
We came for lunch on a Thursday and there was no wait. We ordered the "Massaman Curry" with salmon ($14) and the "Drunken Noodles" with chicken ($9). For dessert we had the "Sweet Sticky Rice with Mango" ($7). We loved everything. Molly the chef was so nice and even brought out some of the dishes to us. Lunch menu is available Monday through Friday 11am to 3pm. Lunch entrees come with a spring roll and soup. We came back another time for dinner and had: "Coconut Soup Tom Kah" (pot with chicken is $11), it had Thai coconut milk, Thai herbs, mushrooms, tomatoes, and cilantro. "Panang Curry" (with beef is $13), which had sweet dried chili base, bell peppers, carrots, and basil. "Yellow Curry" (with chicken is $12), this had Thai yellow chili pepper base, potatoes, and carrots. "Pad See Ew" ($10), had flat rice noodles, egg, broccoli, garlic, and carrots. "Spicy eggplant" (with salmon is $15), had carrots, white onions, bell pepper, and basil sauteed in garlic chili sauce. The best out of this bunch was her Pad See Ew, and Spicy Eggplant! I've had both at many Thai places, but Molly's was perfect!

Yelp
Solid Thai neighborhood place. Great service and good, straight forward food. No alcohol so you'll thank yourself when you get the bill. Very reasonable prices so props to the owners!

Yelp
This was pretty great! I was in the area and decided to stop by for a late dinner. I called in my order and it was simple, and by the time I arrived 10 minutes later, my food was ready. It's located in a strip mall, and i found it easily. I accidentally forgot my mask walking in but quickly covered my nose and mouth with my scarf. The gentleman at the front was friendly and I appreciated my order being ready quickly. I got it home and it was both spicy (level hot) and hot temperature. The flavors were good, loved the veggies, and the tofu was fried nicely. I would try this spot again next time I'm in this neighborhood.

Nwe W.

Yelp
Food was very good. Egg rolls were good, we ordered, Penang curry, crab fried rice and fish dish. All were very tasty and portion is very reasonable. Service was exceptional. He was very polite. We will be going there again.

Chef Rick Z.

Yelp
Chow mein was blah. Watery and not crisp. Pork was in large chunks and chewy. Didn't have what we wanted.

Kathryn D.

Yelp
Pad Thai was so bland and dry-- I do not recommend. Pad Thai is supposed to be flavorful. This is just noodles stuck together with no seasoning in what little sauce there is.

Yelp
Simplify your day. Prioritize proper nutrition. Cuddle like a bear hibernating. Sleep well. Eating at Molly's you might easily knock all of those out. Located in a strip mall, doesn't look like much when you are sandwiched between an Irish Pub and a weed shop other than these people have food taste when they have the munchies. Had this bookmarked but stumbled here after another local eatery was too busy and one closed. Molly's Thai is definitely authentic...call me biased but I am a big fan and a good source, being Thai. Not to mention, three visits in a week justifies a valid food critic right?!?!! With that said though, this isn't fancy, just consistent good food. It's always busy with pick up orders or take out. Hands down the best summer shrimp rolls. Fresh and with the right ingredients like mint leaves. The peanut sauce is probably one of the best versions out there. The veggie rolls are good but doesn't satisfy my craving without meat like pork or chicken. But flaky and yummy. My go to is always Panang or Red Curry since I like spice. The pumpkin curry is really good too but some may prefer their pumpkin cut down in cubes rather than slices. My only suggestion is to maybe flash fry the chicken and this would knock it out of the park. My boyfriend prefers the drunken noodles or broccoli delight with tofu and veggies. Service is typical of a busy popular spot with regulars. Molly's husband Brock is the greeter, usually overwhelmed and running ragged. The server/bus girl, and probably line cook, is comedic telling you to level up on spice. Warning, whoever cooks on Sundays, however, takes the spice level up an extra notch. Or maybe because they know I am ordering but even Thai Hot was a bit much for me third time around. Overall this might be my new neighborhood Thai gem. Spend time with people who are good for your mental health and eat good food from Molly's for your physical health.

Yelp
Amazing Thai food. Always order takeout from here and the owners work very hard. Huge shoutout!!

Ali B.

Yelp
Ordered from here today, is was good! One minor complaint was that it wasn't packaged very well. It looks like they put cardboard in there so it would spill, bug the curry arrived spilling out of the container. Not too much spilled but it was pretty messy. I got the yellow curry with tofu. It was really delicious, the tofu was cooked perfectly! Very flavorful. I got mild but could've handled medium for next time. The steamed veggies were yummy, especially the broccoli. There were a couple small pieces of bad cabbage and green beans, but overall they were good. Very yummy food, would order it again!
