Where to Eat Korean Food in Tacoma’s Lakewood K-Town | Eater

"A late-night chimaek (chicken-and-beer) joint with party-fallout decor—vinyl-partitioned tables, pillars and garlands adorned with beer caps and soju bottle tops—where the focus is crisp, lightly breaded fried chicken served alongside a vinegary Korean radish coleslaw that acts as a refreshing palate cleanser; a popular 'half and half' order pairs plain and sticky spicy-sweet wings, perfect with beer or soju." - Samantha Bakall

Google
This review is only for the popcorn chicken. This is my absolute favorite dish and I have not found a place in VA that does it good. I have finally found a place worth visiting and saving a trip to Rockville. Hands down best Taiwan popcorn chicken this side of the Potomac. I will come back to try the rest of the menu.

The taiwanese popcorn chicken is the best! Juicy and fresh, highly recommend! The staff members are really friendly. I don’t really like the sauce of their braised meat rice.

It was really delicious, with an authentic Taiwanese flavor. The only downside was the small portion—we finished everything quickly. Lol The beef noodle soup was a bit salty for us, but still more acceptable than most American food. After adding some warm water, it tasted amazing. The braised pork chop bento was incredibly tasty. We’ve already had dinner here three times and will definitely come back! It would be perfect if they provided utensils for dine-in and slightly larger portions.

Mono Cafe is located inside the 99 Ranch supermarket. The food can be improved. The atmosphere was fine for a food court. We had the popcorn chicken, stinky tofu, and the hotpot. The chicken and tofu were okay, but the taste could be improved. They didn’t have instant noodles for the hotpot, so the staff gave us a tea instead. Overall, the food was nothing special from other similar restaurants and the price was not cheap for a food court stand.

Google
Don’t order iron pan noodles because they were not served with iron pan. We ordered pork chop noodle ($17.25) and steak noodles($25) iron pan series dine in and they were served in plastic containers. The noodles were cold. I was very disappointed. We also ordered popcorn chicken ($9) and braised pork rice($8). The portions are small for the price. The service was excellent but l probably will not return.

Google
The stinky tofu was slim and really hard to chew. It wasn't juicy. The spicy chicken sandwich was 1) not spicy 2)dry and burnt and 3) no sauce/taste or flavor. I wasn't sure what I was eating...

I used to have once of their bento during a festival, it tastes way more better than this location. The portion is small and the wait is too long, we waited for an hour more during dinner time and not worth it.

Google
This is an authentic Taiwanese Restaurant in NVA. The portion is big and price is good !!! This is way much better than the bento box places in Eden center !!! The Ai Yu lemon tea is very good and refreshing during summer time !!! This is the one of the best Taiwanese Restaurants in NVA area. Picture attached is the braised pork chop Benton (you are unable to located such traditional Taiwanese Bento box in the area). Thank you 🙏

Yelp
We tried their spicy beef noodle soup. The noodle texture was surprisingly decent -- nice chew and did a great job soaking up the broth. Even though it's labeled as "spicy," I barely got any heat from it. The beef itself was soft and pretty decent quality, but the broth leaned a little too sweet for my taste, likely from the chunks of radish and carrot. I was hoping for something a bit beefier or more savory. Portion size felt small for the price too 2.5/5

Yelp
Decided to try one of the food stalls in the 99 Ranch grocery store today (Saturday). They don't officially open until 11:30 am for lunch. You get a 5% discount if you pay cash. Bring cash. Also, get a drink at the drink aisle at 99 Ranch to save money. $0.99 Arizona Ice Tea Half Half Arnold Palmer. Ordered Taiwanese Fried chicken bento box & Taiwanese Spicy Beef Noodle soup. Took about 15 minutes as they make it to order. The bento box comes with rice, veggies (corn, cabbage, broccoli, pickled mustard greens), tofu cake, a small slice of taiwanese sausage and half a tea egg. The fried chicken came in a separate box. Everything was really good. The chicken was hot, crispy and flavorful with spices but dry. They chopped up to breasts into bite sized pieces. Rice was cooked perfectly. Cabbage was delicious. Corn was average. Tofu cake wasn't great. Sausage, egg & pickled greens tasted homemade. 9/10 The beef noodle soup would have been better if in a real ceramic bowl with everything mixed in. Instead, broth was separated from noodles and toppings. Not optimal taste and flavor. However, it was still good as a dish. Flavorful slightly spicy broth with tender slices of beef, chunks of carrott and radish (?) and some baby bok choy. Noodles were fair. Maybe a little overcooked. Needed more chewy and bite. 8.5/10 Overall, the food was very good and some parts remind me of homecooking. Looking forward to trying more from here and other stalls.

Yelp
So glad 99 Ranch's food court is generating more business with their new delicious vendors! I'm always on the lookout for Taiwanese food so I'm glad that this place opened up and is closer to us! We decided to try the bento boxes with black pepper chicken and fried pork chop. All of the bento boxes comes with an assortment of side dishes, such as a tea egg and various stir fried veggies. I thought some of the sides were a bit on the saltier side, but that's okay since the box came with rice to even it out. There's an ample amount of protein for each of the bento boxes and it was enough to have a bite of protein for each spoonful of rice! They were running a promo where if you buy an entree, you get a free order of popcorn chicken. The popcorn chicken was delicious and had a bit of a heat to it which we really liked! Service was good, ordering was quick; however, keep in mind that it might take them a bit longer to make the food so if you're in a rush, order your food first, shop around, and then come back to get your order. Other than that, I'd recommend checking this place out and trying their bento boxes and popcorn chicken!

Yelp
This is a Taiwanese cuisine restaurant inside the 99 Ranch Asian market. They offer authentic Taiwanese street food and fast food combos. I ordered the popcorn chicken, the black pepper chicken bento, and the spicy crawfish bento. The popcorn chicken was average as expected. The black pepper chicken was really good! The black pepper sauce was spicy, but flavorful. It was nothing similar to the black pepper gravy or sauce in any Western cuisine. I stronger recommend you try it, but it is spicy. The crawfish bento was good, and my wife likes it. The lady at the reception was really nice and she was also responsible of making drinks. Since it is inside the food court inside the Asian market, you pretty much need to find a table on your own. The environment is fine. I took one star off because of the portion. It was pretty small for me.

Yelp
To be honest I came here looking for the other Taiwanese restaurant that had previously took this spot, but I was okay with trying something new. I had a craving for Basil popcorn chicken and was able to get it from here. Unfortunately the prices are a bit high, normalized a bit by buy one, by second 50% off deals but generally speaking the prices were high for the small servings you get. This place is inside the 99 ranch in the food court area and you can order on the kiosk or with a friendly face at the front. While ordering was quick, the food wasn't and it was a little frustrating to have to wait so long for such small portions.

Yelp
Almost as good as the DC location! I'm happy to see more things opening up at the 99 Ranch food court. Solid Taiwanese food. The black milk tea was perfectly creamy and sweetened. I wished they had the Momo's Potted Plant Milk Tea since it was topped crushed oreos. We got the Braised Pork Bento. The bento box was a great deal since it came with a lot of things like cabbage, corn, egg, tofu, etc. I enjoyed the flavor of the braised pork! Wish they gave more meat in the bento.

Yelp
The fried pork chop had good flavor, but I didn't care too much for the sides which were ok. The milk tea was pretty sweet and has a decent tea flavor, but I would prefer it to have a stronger tea taste.

Yelp
I actually came to 99 Ranch for something else, but ended up here to try out their Taiwanese food. Got their 'combo' pork belly bento with popcorn chicken and a Thai tea, which set me back $29! Unfortunately I don't feel I got a good value at all. The tea was kinda watered down and you only get 3 pieces of pork belly; definitely not a big portion for almost $30. Both the chicken and pork belly were good, but not good enough with other stalls offering better value.

Yelp
I wanted to try something a little different so I tried here. I really liked it. The pork belly had a good flavor and we really liked the chicken. The chicken was a good portion. They're new so I think they could use a little more organization and need more staff for things to run smoother. There was a little bit of a wait, the cashier was honest about it prior so no big deal. Overall had a good experience and would come back.

Yelp
I'm always in search of Taiwanese food everywhere I go. I'm glad to find Taiwanese food in Fairfax, Va! The braised pork over rice was well seasoned, very tender, and had the right amount of sweet and savory. The bento boxes come with rice, half a braised egg, a piece of braised tofu, pickled vegetables, corn kernels, and sauteed cabbage. The Stinky tofu lacked the signature aroma, but the pickled cabbage was perfect. The popcorn chicken was excellent. It was tender pieces of chicken thighs lightly coated in potato starch and Five spice seasoning and fried with Thai basil leaves. Overall, I would definitely order from here again.

Yelp
Fake Taiwanese food! This coming from a Taiwanese-born American who just spent 2 months in Taiwan. Ordered popcorn chicken, stinky tofu, pan steak with mushroom sauce and beef noodle soup and spent $68. Popcorn chicken and beef noodle soup was ok, stinky tofu is missing garlic chili sauce and vinegar, but the mushroom sauce for the $26 steak was Italian spaghetti sauce with a few pieces of button mushroom al, not at all Taiwanese mushroom sauce. I asked if I can just buy the pepper sauce and they said no. Waste of money.

Yelp
Fan of the popcorn chicken with five spice and basil but portions are small. Tried the braised pork once and it was almost all fat and no meat. Pricey for the small portions.

Yelp
Slow as hell. Order took over 35 minutes to prepare for a popcorn chicken bento and a noodle dish. Promised time was at 11:50 am. Text notification was that order was ready at noon, we still have not received our food yet at 12:10. No apologies. If you don't know how to prepare a dish, don't serve it. Food also very overpriced for the portion size. Store opens later than all the other food places in 99 Ranch as a heads up.

Yelp
We got the popcorn chicken. the taste is fine but sooooo over priced. I'm speechless to see the small portion of food
