I've rarely encountered a dumpling a didn't like, and after learning about momos, it became my mission to try some! Nepalese style cuisine is heavily influenced by the close neighboring countries of India, Bangladesh, and China.
This nondescript restaurant is located in a strip center. Once seated, our waitress was super nice and recommended the chow mein as a popular dish to try, but we were set on momos for the evening. You're able to choose your filling of either chicken, water buffalo, or veg. Then you choose the preparation style of your momos. I was originally going to order the water buffalo momo in the chili preparation style, but the server recommended trying them steamed, so we could really taste the flavor of the traditional water buffalo filling. We went along with the suggestion and also ordered some chicken momos prepared with chili at level three spicy.
While we waited, I noted the thali and various Chinese dishes also available, not to mention a couple of curries. There's certainly more exotic offerings as well. The steamed water buffalo momos arrived first, and oh man were they juicy! The earthy seasoning worked really well the meat! The accompanying red chili sauce had a definite kick to it, but of course I asked for more. The chili chicken momos came fried and tossed with onion and peppers along with the fiery and bold sweet sour and spicy chili sauce. Level three was definitely hot enough for me, but my friend didn't find them all that spicy. Both styles of momos were delicious in different ways!
We both enjoyed the experience! Definitely worth a visit if you enjoy dumplings! Some of the big minuses for me was the bathroom could really use some work, and the menu would be better with descriptions of some items. Speaking of the menu, it's found through a QR code at each table. No paper menus are available. This place definitely carries a bit of a hole on the wall vibe. Still worth a visit despite these details.
