"And if it’s not a Taste of India, you’ll find a Momo Spot inside a Texaco in Irving, Texas." - Trisha Gopal

How Immigrants Have Transformed America’s Gas Stations - Eater

"Texas culture depends on driving and commuting. As a result, convenience stores and small rest stops were early fixtures of gas stations, usually serving simple fare such as hot dogs and hamburgers. But as the state experienced steady waves of immigration and store owners got more innovative, the quality of the food improved and diversified. A few years back, Nikesh Shrestha was looking for a space to sell his Nepalese momos. He was immediately drawn to a Texaco gas station off of a busy highway. Why? It was a cheap space to rent, and there was guaranteed foot traffic. Also, momos—a popular street food in Nepal—are a portable, road trip–friendly dish that Shrestha figured would be a step up from the rotating hot dogs people have come to expect from gas stations. Now, Momo Stop is known as one of the best spots for Nepalese food in the area. Shrestha even says that his restaurant has helped the Texaco gas station’s sales, as eager momo-eaters flock to the spot. The city of Irving, where Momo Spot is located, is home to a large population of Nepali-Americans. But people come from all over to grab some of the expertly-folded momos, filled with tender, heavily seasoned meat or veggies. For those who want a little more than just momos, there are plenty of other regional offerings—fish curry, chicken lollipops, and fried rice, to name just a few. Know Before You Go This place re-opened! Same location, now a Chevron and called Momo Spot instead of Momo Stop." - j justinlblow, Jackmann, arielgrace, a arielgrace, Collector of Experiences, s skooter3, ndlobrecht, l lesiel, lesiel, skooter3, h hrwilson2312, J Jackmann, pkrishna

I ordered chicken biryani from door dash. The biryani was not fresh, the chicken tasted more like stale mutton and had a weird taste in it.

Recently taken over by new management, the food at this place is incredibly delicious and the owners are very very sweet. Coming from a Newari community from Nepal, the taste of the food here exactly reminds me of my mother back home. I visit it at least once a week from Denton :) Tried chicken choila set.. it was BOMB!! So delicious. Aloo chop.. tastes like it came right from the streets of Indrachowk. Mixed bara is so good. Khuwa yomari, khuwa lassi, sel set, chatamari and chicken lollipop .. you must try. Don’t miss from this list for the best taste! If you like Newari food, this is the best spot in DFW.

Wonderful place. Lots of great food and nice people. Momo is awesome but try the Chiya! Also the Potato Teister! Roti in the morning with Chiya is the best.

Amazing place for delicious authentic Nepali and Newari food. Highly recommend, New owners were super nice and friendly. We ordered bunch of food for take out like steamed chicken momo, buff chowmein, chicken choila, egg bara , sel roti and mutton sukuti set. All of them were equally tasty and flavorful. Highly highly recommended! Delicious food in great prices.

As much as I'd like to keep this place to myself, I have to post this. This place has exceptional food. I don't even like Indian type food. But this is crazy. First, you walk into a crowded gas station with a very strong aroma omnipresent in the immediate environment. Then you see this small opening with a small stove and some of the nicest people you'll meet west of Portugal. Then you order this ridiculously inexpensive food and BAM, your life just changed. Yes, it's that GOOD!

I am still new to Nepalese cuisine and usually eat somewhere else. I thought that being in a gas station convenience store, it would be faster and cheaper, but I was wrong. (I let the cashier know I was in a hurry and she said it would take 10 minutes. It took 30. I wish she had told me that one of my items was more time-intensive.) $43 for 3 entrees with tip. I requested $14 Mutton Sekuwa and got Sukuti. It didn't look anything like the picture and the meat was not generous and a little over-cooked. When I told the cashier, she was not at all apologetic, saying to try ordering again next time. The veg chow mein was really good and the only thing under $10. The chicken chili momo was also tasty. Not sure if I will be back.

Yelp
At the MoMo Spot on North Belt Line Road in Irving, Texas, the food is a flavor explosion in your mouth! Serving up authentic Nepalese and Indian cuisine in a casual dining setting, this dining-dive in service station front will transport your taste buds to the streets of Kathmandu. What are MoMo's? Steamed dumplings with either meat or vegetables inside. Start off with some savory samosas or traditional momos, then move on to a hearty plate of chicken tikka masala or spicy lamb vindaloo. Don't forget to try the fluffy naan bread and delicious aromatic rice on the side! Vegetarians will also love the vast selection of meat-free options, including paneer tikka masala and chana masala. Top off your meal with some sweet gulab jamun or creamy mango lassi. With generous portions and friendly service, dining at MoMo Spot is an experience that will satisfy all your cravings. Come hungry and leave happy! #MoMoSpot #NepaleseFood #IndianCuisine #IrvingTexas #FoodieHeaven #FlavorExplosion

Yelp
Amazing food and friendly chef/owner. My meal was absolutely delicious, a true diamond in the rough, or in this case, a gas station.

Yelp

Yelp
I ordered the following: chilly chicken, chicken steamed momos, kothay chicken momos, and chicken lollipop. Everything was delicious. It took about 25 mins for the order to be fulfilled, which was great because that's how long it took me to get there.

Yelp
Our son picked us up some carry out fried and steamed Momo. Both had a light curry flavor and sauce. Chili chicken and chicken chow mein. All very delicious. Highly recommend. Unique, different and the bomb!

Yelp
It's a gas station. That's it. It is a wall cutout in a gas station. It is not fancy. It does not have a bunch of space. People will crowd you while you are trying to order. If you sit in, the expectation is that you do it quickly or be one of the locals. With that said... I wouldn't change a single M************* thing about it! MoMo Spot CONSISTENTLY delivers amazing Chow Mein and pitch perfect Momos. There's a bit of a language barrier. I don't care. I will learn how to speak Nepali if it means that I make things easier. I pray this place never closes! I don't even have a picture in my phone of my food because I often stand in the parking lot devouring everything like an anime character! Go eat here! If you can stand spice, let them spice you all the way up! The Jhol MoMo is delicious and you will inhale the entire order in seconds! Pace yourself and brace yourself!

Yelp
Staff are awesome- gave us samples. Momos are killer chop suey is delicious. Can't wait to try it again and again.

Yelp
ordered veg chili momos and veg kothay momos. had to wait a lil but it's not so bad if you call 30 min ahead. very good despite (or maybe because?) being in a gas station

Yelp
Very friendly staff and regulars. The MoMo or (Dumplings) as I refer to them are very good and come with a tasty dipping sauce. It was a cold day and they offered me this soup to try but warned me it was spicy. It had great flavor and was perfect for the chilly day. Highly recommend stepping outside your comfort zone and trying this place. Yes it's in a gas station but sit and visit while you eat.

Yelp
I only visit this place because of Sonny (best ever food review show channel on YouTube). He is right. The steam chicken momo is so good. Its taste changes when you dip in the sauce, then changes again when you dip in hot sauce. Will try the buffalo momo next.
