A day in Julian isn’t complete without a slice here; this family-run bakery has drawn lines for decades and gets regular love from the Los Angeles Times and local critics for flaky crusts and tart-sweet apple pies using nearby mountain fruit.

Very good pie, sweet team, enough seating. We stayed in Julian for the weekend and the pie scene is pretty big. Multiple pie businesses for such a small community but its great to have so many farm-to-table options. I bought a bumbleberry pie to go and had a slice of apple with ice cream. The family loved it and they served it warm which was a nice touch. They also have a few lunch options which is great! Check out the video.

Mom’s Julian is exactly what you’d expect in this quaint old town: a bakery featuring apple pie. The tradition of this apple growing town is the first thing anyone asks if I say “I went to Julian.” “Did you have some pie…?” Yes, and Mom’s Pies is where to go. Delicious! Respects hikers on the Pacific Crest Trail. Treats everyone with courtesy. You gotta’ try a slice with crumbles! Go here.

Very busy over the weekend with lines out the door. Instead, we stopped here early before leaving Julian to pick up a pie to take home (no lines). Many pies to choose from, but I've always defaulted to the standard apple pie with the buttery crust and lots of apples. Can also get honey and other tasty treats.

Update 7/14/25 I tried their bumble berry pie with the traditional crust. Wow it was amazing so much thin buttery crust, and not overwhelmingly sweet with just a touch of tartness. Really nice cute place pies looked very tempting. I wasn’t able to try any. There is usually a long line outside the door You can see them baking the pies from the window

Google
This has always been our go to place for pies. We went to Julian Sunday and Monday and we ordered a bumbleberry pie which was delicious but we got another that was supposed to be apple cherry. There were a whole 5 tiny cherrys in the pie. The pie on cutting a piece I can tell something is wrong. It seemed dry and mealy. I lift up the crust and there is mold. Almost 25 dollars for a dry moldy pie. This place has gone WAY DOWNHILL

Finally made it up to Julian and had to make a stop here for some apple pie to go and one in house. The line was incredibly long and annoying so we made our stop in on a Sunday morning at 8am and were the second customers of the day. The space is on the smaller size but that early in the day it was nice to see it emptier and calmer. For my pie slice I decided to get the strawberry rhubarb and it was DELICIOUS. It was super tart, but paired with the whipped cream it was pretty much everything I wanted the pie to be. My husband got the bumbleberry (?) and it was jammed packed with berries and was on the sweeter side, but still enjoyable. The apple pies are so yummy and make a great gift to anyone back home. I can definitely see the appeal and charm of this business in particular, not sure if I would wait an hour or more for a slice but it’s worth it and more enjoyable if you come early before the crowds of people.

You can’t visit Julian and not get an apple pie! Tried the Apple Ruby apple, rhubarb, blueberry and raspberry with the crumble crust, absolutely delicious! Staff were very friendly and super efficient!

Luckily when we arrived, we didn’t wait too long to get seated (before noon). Ordered the apple crumble with cinnamon ice cream. Love this combination. Loaded before we are heading for a hike later of the day! Even the queue is long, don’t worry, it goes fast.

Yelp
We went to Mom's Pie House on Main Street on our last day in Julian to have an apple dumpling each. To our disappointment they were already sold out. The cashier suggested that we try their other store in Wynola, just 6 minutes down the road. She even offered to call them to see if they still had some (great customer service!) Success! We hurried down to get them. We were so happy to still be able to get them. They were as delicious as we remembered. Dumplings $7.95 each. Ice Cream $2.00. Yum!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Long line and wait but definitely worth it! They have a large variety of pies which you can get by the slice or an entire pie. Seating is a bit hard as it is super busy but if you're willing to wait a bit something will open up. You can also get the pie to go and reheat at home.

Yelp
First time in Julian and stopped here for some pie and it was delicious! The pecan pie warmed up was a hit and the ice cream scoop made it even better. The apple pie was yummy as well. When asked about our food allergies, they were very helpful and looked up ingredients to make sure what we could order. Lots of seating, we love the big tables and benches. Someone ordered a chicken pot pie and it smelled amazing in there!

Yelp
Love the pies! We're taking one home! Hope you stop here when you visit! The service is fast!
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent pies, service and atmosphere! Friendly staff as well. The only downside is the PRICE! $6.50 for one small slice of pie is way high. About six bites. Whole pies are a better value if you want to take out or need 6 pieces!!!

Yelp
Came to try the apple pie. Many variations to choose from . I got the apple caramel pie. The caramel was thick and decadent. The apple pie is good. The dining room was filled, the displays looked enticing. People are nice!

Yelp
Wow. The best pie can be found here! I waited about 30 minutes in line on a snowy day. Was it worth the wait? Absolutely!! The line moved slowly, but surely. I ordered 2 slices; apple berry crumble and apple crumble pie. Along with a blueberry muffin and a cup of real whipped cream. Everything was soooo good. I don't even like pastries or sweets like that -- but yo... Mom's Pie House knows what they're doing! I love how the pie is not overly sweet. It's naturally sweet. The crust is tasty too. I'd definitely come back for another slice or whole pie! The employees were busy, but delivered great customer service. I loved being greeted and personally handed my order after waiting. There's also fresh honey and other pastries available to order. There's a lot of seating inside which is nice. 10 out of 10 recommend Mom's Pie House.

Yelp
This was one of the hot spots in Julian that i've been dying to try ever since coming here! This was my first time and the line was out there door, however the wait wasn't super bad, it was about 15 minutes. The place itself was spacious, everyone that was in line was against the door until they got to the register, and the pies were all on the side for you to take a look as you wait in line. There was numerous of flavors, coming from their original apple, to apply berry, pecan and much more. I decided to get the apple and my boyfriend got bumbleberry pie and it was at about $6.50 per slice, and adding $2.00 for ice cream. This was so delicious, and i'd recommend getting the crumbled version rather the flaky top. Parking can be difficult on weekends except we found a street one just up the hill. There is a bathroom available and plenty room for seating, definitely recommend snatching it right after you order!

Yelp
We had a caramel apple crumble pie from Mom's as our Thanksgiving dessert. We live in San Diego and saw that for the holidays, Mom's offered pick up for their pies at a hearth store in La Mesa. Reservation and pick up of the pie was simple. It is an average sized pie at a reasonable price. Of course it's more expensive than getting your pie from Marie Callendar's or Costco, but it's cheaper than other options like Pop Pie Co. Taste-wise, I thought it was pretty good, but a little TOO sweet for my liking. Regardless it brightened up our Thanksgiving and I would definitely consider re-ordering for another special occasion.

Yelp
I wouldn't consider myself a pie person, but I definitely loved the pie here!! Notorious for a long line on weekends, I was thrilled that we got to order immediately on a Friday afternoon! The servers were SO lovely in helping us decide what to get. The caramel apple crisp pairs PERFECTLY with a scoop of cinnamon ice cream (and oddly enough, a piece of sharp cheddar -- a suggestion from my Midwest bf). I'm officially a pie convert! I will definitely be back to try the apple berry. And definitely don't miss out on some hot spiced cider! That will warm up your soul on a chilly day. Can't wait for my next visit here!

Yelp
Favorite stop for pie in Julian, Mom's the best pie! never disappoints. It was a November fall crisp day with wind that needed a slice of warm pie and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Ordered pumpkin, apple flaky, apple crumb and cherry, all with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Delicious, fresh and warm, so yummy! I personally love their crumble pie, the crust is just right with the perfect bits of cinnamon and sugar mmm! The wait was about an hour-hour and fifteen minutes but it was well worth it. Customer service is always great. The cashiers are always smiling and sweet, this time was no different. There was also a nice lady wiping down tables, she was sweet, and checked in on everyone, very attentive. Restrooms had everything we needed and clean.

Yelp
Mom's or Julian Pie Company. This is the question that visitors to Julian ask themselves. We lean toward Julian Pie Company but due to a longer line, we waited in what was still a long line for Mom's. The Apple pie is scrumptious, divine, such a treat! However this review is about a recently discovered item that was on display in their window...apple dumplings! I was curious and asked. A nice lady who was working stopped what she was doing and told us what they were and that they were very delicious. Glad we bought one because of her, brought it home, and now have a new treat that we will regularly buy when visiting Julian.

Yelp
One of the must-try pie spots in Julian, and my favorite among the bunch. I went again recently for a family Fall trip, and was surprised to find there wasn't the typical line outside the door. This was my first time trying the apple dumpling, and it will now be my go-to order. It's more expensive than a slice of apple pie ($5.50 vs $7.95), however definitely big/filling enough to share. We added on a scoop of ice cream for an additional $2. Would recommend trying the apple dumpling at least once, especially if you're a fan of pie crust!

Yelp
I mean...how can you not love pie? Lol. Julian's many pie options will leave you full and satisfied. Mom's is as as homemade tasting as you would expect by the name. It feels down home, it smells inviting and it 100% tastes delicious. You definitely can't go wrong with even the simplest pies - the original apple. The pie filling is so delicious and just perfectly sweet. But my absolute favorite is definitely the apple crumb. The sweet and buttery layer of crumbs on top is just so darn good. And what better way than to top it off with vanilla ice cream?! And if vanilla is too basic for you, you do have other flavor options as well to choose from. They also have other fruit pies and mixed pies and even have sugar-free options for those looking to indulge but keep it low glucose. Lines can be a bit long, especially on weekends, and it moves fairly slow sometimes. But at least it's worth the wait at the end!

Yelp
I drove to Julian last week and really wanted to get a pie; after dinner I ran over to Moms pie house. It was a few minutes before closing time and I was happy that they were able to squeeze in an order in for me. I picked out their apple crumble whole pie and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The prices really jumped up but it's totally worth it. I thank them for my stuff and left to walk around the area some more. Once I got finished walking around and exploring, I remembered I left my Stanley at Moms pie house. I ran over and thank God there were staff there still. They recognized me and gave me my cup back. They were looking for me too lol. Excellent staff, friendly service. Clean pie shop with lots of tables and seating area. So many varieties of pies available and pastries. 10 out of 10 for everything.

Yelp
Love coming here every year in the fall! Ate a slice of apple pie + cinnamon ice cream which is delicious, I love how the apple pie comes warm. I also bought an apple berry crumb pie to take home, can't wait to eat it! Located on the Main Street of Julian, street parking nearby. Limited seating inside, there's usually a line especially during the fall season but it goes by fast.
google avatar

Daniella P.

Yelp
Not only is this place so cute but the pie tastes so amazing and fresh. The pie is always warm and they have an insane amount of flavors. The line was kinda long but it moved fairly quickly. You're able to eat your pie inside although there isn't too much seating. Cool place!
google avatar

Marisol A.

Yelp
What can I say about this place besides it has AMAZING PIES!! Came up to Julian specifically to come to Mom's for their crumble bumbleberry pie (black berry, blueberry, raspberry) because it's just that freaking AMAZING! Took home a flaky apple pie also! Gotta get here early when doors open because if not you'll be standing in line that goes out the door and down the block! Staff is always very nice and works as fast as they can to serve everyone! Eat the side of pie on site with a scoop of vanilla ice cream if you can because it's SO GOOD! It's so warm band toast inside and the place just smells of delicious pies!! Love this place and will be back!!
google avatar

Hailey S.

Yelp
when we got here there wasn't too much of a wait at all! we wanted a pie slice that had a crumble on top but couldn't choose between cherry and apple but they had a cherry & apple crumble! so we got that :) service is great, the cashier was very very nice. you get a number and sit down, when they call your number, they'll bring it to your table. the inside has a few spots to sit at. our slice came out and it looked a bit disappointing :( the crumble was crunchy but not the crunch we were looking for. but there was a lot of cherries and apples in the slice! the pie wasn't as awesome as we were expecting but it was good to try

Yelp
Mom's Pie House is a solid choice in adorable Julian - and a main competitor to the Julian Pie Co. I stopped in on my way out to bring an apple pie home and it was fantastic!! They have a lot of pie flavors here and I went with the Apple Caramel Crumble Pie - took a whole one home and a loaf of their Apple bread. The pie was phenomenal! The apple slices were soft and the overall flavor was authentic and delicious. We ate the entire thing over the course of 3-4 days. Apple pie of any sort is the hubby's fave and he said this was lovely. For me, I can usually take it or leave it - Apple hasn't ever been a fave of mine - but this one was the best I tried - I loved it! The Apple bread was also delicious- very soft and full of supple pieces of apples and raisins with the perfect balance of spices - fantastic!! They had some pumpkin pie samples at the door and I can honestly say it was the BEST pumpkin pie I've ever tasted. I saw a pecan pie on my way out that looked fabulous as well but I already had too much sugar in my bag haha! They had a lot of pie flavor choices, along with cookies, breads, brownies, ice cream and even savory items like chicken pot pie and empanadas! Staff were all just delightful and prices were reasonable. They have a few tables inside for seating but it's limited. They weren't as packed as the Julian Pie Co so there was more room. The decor is down-home quaint country style and it was so warm and inviting. They're located right in the heart of adorable main street Julian - perfectly situated. I'll definitely be trying a slice of their pecan next time so I can compare to the Julian Pie Co.

Yelp
Mom's pie house is a lovely pie shop in Julian. Definitely a staple to visit when visiting the small rural town. The pies are made fresh everyday with fresh picked local ingredients. My favorite pies are the boysenberry and apple pies with the crumble crust and ice cream of course. You can take these pies whole to go or by the slice to eat inside. Doing both is a must if you're visiting. The prices are also reasonable with the whole pies ranging around $22 and the slice with ice cream by about $6-8 from what I remember. The atmosphere is very homey and inviting and the service looks slow out front but is fast when you order. It is just very packed, especially on the weekends
google avatar

Yelp
Great little stop in Julian. Known for the apple pies the wife decided to take a trip. Line was way shorter that "Julian" pies were good. The cashier/server was super fun. Told us to sit anywhere and brought our pies. No complaints except I don't really like sweets but everyone else I was with did.
google avatar

Oscar Daniel R.

Yelp
Why drive to Julian CA? Pies! Where? MOM'S duhhh. This place was very cute inside. They have great gift merchandise available and the restaurant smells wonderful. The service was friendly but they do not allow dogs. Overall I would return. Prices were cheap and reasonable!
google avatar

Shanika H.

Yelp
Julian is always such a great place to visit. This little town has quite a bit to offer. Lots of mom and pop shops and restaurants. Mom's is a go to must for dessert though. The pies are sooooo good. My favorite is a classic apple pie and ice cream, but they have so many flavors. The staff are great. It's a small little place, but I've never had a problem getting seating. Most people are respectful and get up once they're done to keep it moving. But even if you don't eat your pie there definitely get one to take back home. You r taste buds won't regret it!
google avatar

Nathan N.

Yelp
Well worth the hourlong wait, people apparently come to the town of Julian for the pie. I found myself slipping into an adjacent store to explore while my friend was waiting in line for me (we took shifts so we could explore the town properly). The workers are super friendly and helpful, despite the hectic line and immense pressure I can only assume they must be feeling. It is super cozy and warm in here, as is the town of Julian as a whole. We thankfully lined up when we did because by the time we left the pie shop, the line was double what it was when we were at the back of the line. Despite their official closing time, they seem to stay open until they run out of pie.
google avatar

Isabelle W.

Yelp
Apple pie is obviously a must when you come to Julian and this place did not disappoint. The line was long but it went by quickly! The Apple crumble pie was delicious and had caramel drizzled on top. I added their homemade whipped cream and it was fantastic! They also have a lot of pie options that look amazing if Apple is not up your alley. Perfect sweet treat when visiting Julian.
google avatar

Stella Z.

Yelp
The Apple pie here is good with vanilla ice cream. It's always worth the drive up to julian just for this pie. Love how you could see them make the pastries and pies through the storefront window. Staff was super friendly and nice. They have so many variety of pies to choose from. Highly recommend this place for some good pies.
google avatar

Miriam S.

Yelp
Great service and plenty of pie options! I pick the apple dumpling with a scoop of cinnamon ice cream since it was by the window and it was delicious! The apple was still crispy and a little tart but not too sweet. The dough had a wonderful consistency, crispy and slightly sweet. The cinnamon ice cream was the perfect add on but then I got too full. I also bought a whole sugar free apple pie for the family and it was excellent!
google avatar

Jodi Y.

Yelp
They have the cutest shirts here! Sad I didn't take a picture so can't show you guys. But you just have to stop by Mom's for the pies & also see their apparel! We ordered a full apple pie & sat inside. It wasn't as warm as the single sliced pies but more affordable. I liked the crumble on top, would be nice if they topped it a bit more. Julian is a cute town & many pie shops nearby
google avatar

Derek F.

Yelp
This is a cute old school pie shop that is a must try when in Julian. The line is long, usually around 45 minutes during peak times, but it's worth it!! Don't miss your chance to visit a legend.
google avatar

Kevin Z.

Yelp
If you're in Julian you probably want to try a piece of pie here. Depending on the day, the wait can be quite long. I got the apple and chocolate pecan pie and they were both solid. I have to say though that they were smaller than I expected.
google avatar

Bernadette Y.

Yelp
With so many pie options in Julian, it's hard to pick the right one. But Mom's Pie House is my go-to. Why you ask? Well let me tell you... their apple dumpling. It's a beautifully baked apple pie, shaped like an apple. Maybe it even makes me feel a little healthier eating it because of that (joking... mostly). Each bite includes some apple, and crispy crust. Together with their drip coffee, you've got yourself a delicious treat worth coming back to. Try it there warmed, and you'll understand what I'm saying. Appliciously amazing.
google avatar

Sam J.

Yelp
Highly recommended! Always wonderful customer service and love the quality of their pies 5 Stars!!!
google avatar

Marjon F.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I rush here 5 minutes until close and they were more than happy to serve us some pie. We both ordered the Dutch apple pie with real whipped cream on the side. They are super prompt to give us our pies but still let us sit and enjoy them bite by bite. You can't come to Julian and not have some apple pie, and so glad we came to this place it did not disappoint. A lot of people go to Julian Pie Company but you can buy that at your local grocery store. This is the spot to hit up if you are actually visiting the town of Julian!
google avatar

Conner S.

Yelp
Love stopping by Mom's Pie House while I'm up in Julian! They are located on the main street and they typically have a line out the door during the fall. However it moves quick and it is easy to find a table. The pie here is delicious! Can't go wrong with any of them. I highly recommend getting a slice in the store and pairing it with their cinnamon ice cream!
google avatar

Bob S.

Yelp
I love the pies here very much because they are delicious, I also love this vanilla ice cream separate, good service, nice ambiance, too.
google avatar

Heather H.

Yelp
Smells amazing inside, lots of selections to choose from. When we come to Julian we normally get pies from Julian pie co so we wanted to try something different this time and see how they compare. The cold cider was pretty tasty. We got apple pie slice, cherry pie slice and apple berry slice with ice cream. The cherry pie was sweet and tart, the apple berry was slightly sweet and the apple was a classic. All hit the spot for our pie craving. Inside was clean and staff was quick and friendly.
google avatar

Steve Y.

Yelp
First time here. Friendly staff (better than the other more popular Julian pie place) . Iced Latte was decent but pricey for a small at $4.75. . Blueberry muffin was alright, just a bit pricey at $3.50 for a size that's half of one from Costco.
google avatar

Jalina R.

Yelp
I've been coming here since I was a teen growing up with my family. Has always been our favorite apple pie shop. When I was younger we would get a slice of pie and hot apple cider. Now an adult, I still love this place. We came early, so it wasn't too busy yet. Caramel Apple pie a la mode and Pecan pie for breakfast any day. And the older woman behind the counter taking our order was so sweet and friendly.
google avatar

Krishen W.

Yelp
I've been too moms pies a few times before and it is always my go to for pie in Julian! We got a slice of apple crumble warmed up with whipped cream. The additional whipped cream was a dollar, which honestly felt steep. When we got the pie it was still cold, which was okay. What was frustrating is when we went up to the workers they seemed incredibly annoyed that I told them. They ended up giving me another slice heated up, but I'm not really sure why they were annoyed. It felt a little unfriendly. I would say they have the beat pie in Julian but the experience wasn't great. Beware for seating here, even on a quiet day it was packed in here!
google avatar

Jason R.

Yelp
A staple of every Julian trip. You can get apple pie everywhere in Julian but this is always the one to wait for. The line usually extends down the block but you will move through the line quickly. Seats are hard to come by if you have a large party. I recommend the apple berry with ice cream and crumble top
google avatar

Nathan M.

Yelp
Been coming here for over 15 years and such a great gem in Julian. Definitely worth the wait for this cozy little dessert restaurant. The servers are so nice and kind very good at recommending items on the menu. I like that the pies are not extremely sweet even with the vanilla ice cream on the side.
google avatar

Zachariah A.

Yelp
Way better Apple Pie than overhyped Oak Glen, by a long shot. Julian makes awesome pies, period. It's the main reason why people make the arduous, 2.5 hour road trip here. Great coffee too.
google avatar

Thuy N.

Yelp
Take a day off. Drive to Julian Find parking Buy frozen chicken pot pie. Take it home Eat it :) Golden! Life lessons to pass on to your kids!

Marija P.

Yelp
Supporting local businesses is important to me, and Mom's Pie Bakery in Julian is one of the best. Their pies are fresh, homemade, and absolutely delicious. The crust is flaky, and the fillings are full of flavor. It's the kind of place that makes you feel at home, and I'm happy to support them every chance I get. Service is impeccable and ambience is very cozy. Make sure to take some pie to go!
google avatar

Yelp
Maaaayyynnn! This line was longer than the weekend queues at Disneyland!!! I'm sure this place was nonstop busy from the time they opened to when we got there around 2. I was looking forward to the chicken pot pie and chili but unfortunately they were already sold out. We got the hot apple cider ( delicious and felt like a warm hug on this cold Sunday ), 2 whole caramel apple crumbles and 2 slices of the same with cinnamon ice cream. The pies were better than their competition, in my opinion, but what impressed me the most was the great customer service each of the employees displayed. I mean everyone literally had a smile on their face, the way they interacted with each customer was with a smile and talking to you like you were their friend, and the way they maintained their friendliness and composure when people kept trying to differentiate the line with the employees. No sir/ma'am it's one line for everything. I'm sure the line wouldn't be as long as the haunted mansion at Disneyland on a holiday if there were seperate lines. Plus it's pretty loud once you get inside. Our wait was almost uncomfortable when the family behind us wanted to talk loud enough for the front and back of the line to hear. But def worth the wait coupled with the great customer service. My first time here and will def come again.....on a weekday when school and work is back in session

Yelp
Born and raised in the south, I am such a sucker for pie...Apple Pie, specifically. This place literally steals my heart when I am missing home. I purchased a whole pie to go and a frozen one for my neighbor. I got the Apple Crumble. The pie was incredible and lived up to all the hype you read. It might be where i'd want my birthday dessert from every year! Although a trek from the OC, certainly feels like home with any pie you get!

Yelp
We waited a long time outside for pie, which is fine but as I stepped inside the light fixture on the wall fell off the wall, hitting me in the face (I have glasses so it hurt extra) then fell on top of my sons head. We were waiting so long my son needed down leaning against my legs. When they lady came over she snarky said "was he playing with the cord" I said absolutely not! The lady in front of me also said to her that she saw the light fixture moving. The kicker! They didn't pay for my pie. I feel it was the least they could do... will be going elsewhere next trip.
