A day in Julian isn’t complete without a slice here; this family-run bakery has drawn lines for decades and gets regular love from the Los Angeles Times and local critics for flaky crusts and tart-sweet apple pies using nearby mountain fruit.

I booked a home in Julian for a long weekend and wanted to always try Julians famous apple pie, woke up early as usual and walked around the town and was the first customer of the day at the pie shop. Staff were extremely friendly and gave us a warm welcome and gave us a great tour of all their baked goods. I’am always excited to see and try gluten free options and I took one of each baked goods. Menu is great lots of different options to slices and ice cream pies and coffee, cookies honey and more. I was highly satisfied with my purchase and already made an online pie order for pick up. Lines get really long so make an order today and try some of their pies, sugar free options too.

Google
I tried their apple berry crumb pie and it was just delicious. Be aware of the long queue! But the pie is worth waiting in queue. They’ve variety of pies to choose from and even has oldest oven in the dining area. Recommend to all the pie lovers out there.

It’s just a perfect place for a quick delicious bite of apple pie, especially on a cold day, as soon as you walk in, you feel the warmth and smell the delicious fresh baking of pies, there are several different choices, all absolutely delicious. If you’re just in for a slice and one to avoid sitting for a long time or waiting at a restaurant, this is a perfect spot, they also have regular coffee, or you can buy the whole pie.

Google
Popular pie house! Very delicious pies – the apple pie is scrumptious! Ice cream, cookies, apple cider, and espresso drinks. Pleasant, family atmosphere! Friendly staff and service!

Google
Very good pie, sweet team, enough seating. We stayed in Julian for the weekend and the pie scene is pretty big. Multiple pie businesses for such a small community but its great to have so many farm-to-table options. I bought a bumbleberry pie to go and had a slice of apple with ice cream. The family loved it and they served it warm which was a nice touch. They also have a few lunch options which is great! Check out the video.

Google
Julian is an amazing little town just around the corner from where I live and after a fun filled day we decided to stop by and get a few slices of pie. The pie was delicious but the only reason this is getting a five star is because I believe the older of the four workers there I believe her name was Bonita was amazing and working harder then the three younger ladies who where just playing around laughing and not paying attention to customers. We attempted to ask a question about a pie that looked like a chocolate filled one but after attempting 4 times to ask the question and was being ignored because the young ladies where playing around to much. By time we walked around to the cashier we just said we wanted apples pie slices and went and sat down. We did stop the older worker Bonita and let her know she is such a hard worker while the others were playing around. The 30 mins we where there Bonita was boxing pies up then running around wiping counters and tables picking up trash and making sure everything was presentable for customers meanwhile the young ladies helped a few people and then went back to playing and not helping clean or anything.

Very busy over the weekend with lines out the door. Instead, we stopped here early before leaving Julian to pick up a pie to take home (no lines). Many pies to choose from, but I've always defaulted to the standard apple pie with the buttery crust and lots of apples. Can also get honey and other tasty treats.

Taufiq H.

Google
Update 7/14/25 I tried their bumble berry pie with the traditional crust. Wow it was amazing so much thin buttery crust, and not overwhelmingly sweet with just a touch of tartness. Really nice cute place pies looked very tempting. I wasn’t able to try any. There is usually a long line outside the door You can see them baking the pies from the window

Yelp
Bumbleberry Pie (blueberry, raspberry, blackberry): Highly recommend. This reminds me of boysenberry at Knotts. It's not that sweet, but very lightly tart. Rhubarb Strawberry: Tart and lightly sweet. I like sour things but probably not for my dessert. Parking: side street parking or there's a parking lot at the far back behind california wolf center. Wait time: Get's busy after noon. About 10 min wait if you get there before noon.

Yelp
Mom's Pie House was 100% worth waiting 30 minutes in line!! My husband and I went to Julian, CA last Sunday. We heard about Mom's so we had to check it out! They have so many pies that I'm not going to list them out. We got the apple crumble pie and it was sweet and sugary with lots of apples. It was an experience of a lifetime like I have no words. We bought an entire pie and a small jug of apple cider for $25. Between the two of us the pie lasted all week. There are instructions for reheating the pie inside the box. The staff worked quickly for the people who had pies at the shop and for the people who took the pies to go. Sadly they were out of the pumpkin pie but we also stood in line around 3:30pm so keep that in mind. DELICIOUS PIE!!!

Yelp
My boyfriend and I went to the Mom's Pie House spot on Main Street and that line was absolutely horrendous we waited around 45 minutes just to be inside the establishment Upon entering this establishment, a few things caught my eye: the cleanliness, attentive staff, fresh flakey pies, and constant movement all around. The staff has a very get it, got it, done attitude which was perfect for such a busy place. Despite the high traffic, everyone remained friendly, respectful, and focused. As for the pie itself, I ordered the flakey bumble berry pie and the flakey pumpkin pie. Both were absolutely delicious. Even after returning to them hours later they remained as delicious as ever. Presentation-wise, the pumpkin pie looked basically perfect while the bumble berry looked a little crazy. The slice was large though so I promise you I'm not complaining here. The only thing that depresses me about my order is that I didn't order a complete pie. They were incredibly tasty. I believe it to be worth the wait :) overall, 10/10 experience.

Yelp
If happiness had a smell, it would be walking into Mom's Pies in Julian . I swear the aroma alone deserves five stars. I went straight for the apple berry crumb slice (with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, because... duh). It's like the perfect marriage of tart, sweet, and buttery crumb topping--basically, fall wrapped in a forkful. Then I couldn't resist the chocolate pecan slice. Rich, nutty, gooey, and again, yes, with vanilla ice cream. Pro tip: don't skip the ice cream--it's the glue holding together the meaning of life. The staff makes the experience even better. Everyone was so friendly, and I have to give a special shoutout to Richard B.--he was super helpful, patient with all my indecision (so many pies, so little time), and just genuinely kind. If you're in Julian and don't stop here, you're doing life wrong.

Yelp
This place never fails to deliver the best pie ever with a cute, quaint space to enjoy it in. The staff is always so friendly and greet you with a smile on their face. My favorite pie ever (that I even dream of sometimes) is the caramel apple crumb. Not only did I get a slice I ended up getting a whole pie of it too. My boyfriend got the strawberry rhubarb that was so fresh and a unique flavor plus he opted for cinnamon ice cream which was a great touch! This is definitely my favorite pie spot in julian.

Yelp
Well, who doesn't love a good apple pie? There are a few options in this town for Apple pie. I've tried the other one now It was time to give this one a whirl. I usually get Str8 apple pie, but this time I opted for the caramel apple pie, which was good, but I felt like the caramel changed the flavor a little bit. Next time I will definitely stick to the more traditional apple pie, but it was not bad. Taking off one star because the flavor was a little different and the pie felt a little doughy on top but on all good apple pie with a nice chunk ice cream.

Yelp
Mom's Pie Shop is a beloved institution at Julian's Main Street. Line is typically out the door, and on weekends during Fall Apple season, the line can take close to 45-60 mins. There is a wide variety to choose from, ranging from apple, apple berry, apple cherry, bumbleberry, rhubarb strawberry, chocolate pecan and apple caramel crumb. Most come in flakey or crumb versions. You can take whole pies to go or just order a slice. Ala mode (scoop of ice cream) can be added for $2 more. Whole pies are $23.95-25.95 (as of October 2025). The pies are heavenly and "tastes like Fall"! Only complaints are the limited seating inside and long bathroom lines.

Yelp
My family has been going to Mom's Pie since the 80s! If you are thinking visiting, keep in mind this is a very small historic mining town with a population of less than 1,500 people. There is noting upscale or trendy about anything in this town and that's why we love it :) Mom's Pie House is our absolute favorite pie in Julian. We highly recommend the classic apple with french crumb topping, apple berry with french crumb topping, and I recently tried the cherry pie and it was delicious! I would make Mom's your first stop of the day and placing your pie in your car, because the line later in the day is crazy long! Staff is always kind. Oh! Since you already waited in line for your whole pie already, might as well get a hot single slice with ice cream to enjoy now!

Tracy M.

Yelp
We come here to have our Brambleberry pie and ice cream and coffee and we usually buy a pie or two here and the service is good and the ambience is really nice and cool. It's about 69° in here which is very refreshing so come on in have a bite of pie and a coffee and enjoy relaxing and Julian on Main Street.

Yelp
The pie was amazing fresh from this morning service was absolutely great. I'll definitely keep coming back. Thank you all!! PS pecan pie is so good!
google avatar

Karen Z.

Yelp
We went to Mom's Pie House on Main Street on our last day in Julian to have an apple dumpling each. To our disappointment they were already sold out. The cashier suggested that we try their other store in Wynola, just 6 minutes down the road. She even offered to call them to see if they still had some (great customer service!) Success! We hurried down to get them. We were so happy to still be able to get them. They were as delicious as we remembered. Dumplings $7.95 each. Ice Cream $2.00. Yum!!!
google avatar

Kitty C.

Yelp
First time in Julian and stopped here for some pie and it was delicious! The pecan pie warmed up was a hit and the ice cream scoop made it even better. The apple pie was yummy as well. When asked about our food allergies, they were very helpful and looked up ingredients to make sure what we could order. Lots of seating, we love the big tables and benches. Someone ordered a chicken pot pie and it smelled amazing in there!
google avatar

Sam J.

Yelp
I was at Mom's this morning. Drove from San Marcos. The staff is always kind and helpful. I got two muffins. I had not had them yet. I had the apple this morning with tea. It was very good. I had the blueberry muffin after lunch. I warmed it up and put some butter on it and it was really yummy! As always it is clean and charming inside. You'll have to go in person to appreciate the full aroma of a bakery in the morning. Thank you :)

Yelp
Love this place very convenient for a slice of pie and a place to sit for few minutes while you eat,

Yelp
Love the pies! We're taking one home! Hope you stop here when you visit! The service is fast!

Yelp
Food is great fun pies are delicious. I got one . It's mixed berry yummy. Service is good Ambiance is counter country. Pie pie pie!
google avatar

Stephanie C.

Yelp
Came to try the apple pie. Many variations to choose from . I got the apple caramel pie. The caramel was thick and decadent. The apple pie is good. The dining room was filled, the displays looked enticing. People are nice!
google avatar

Keith C.

Yelp
Great pies right in the heart of downtown! Prepare yourself for challenging parking and a long line out the door at the pie shop (30-40min) on the weekend. But it's sure worth the wait! Seating can also be a little challenging inside since the seating is somewhat limited, especially on the weekends. Had the Apple Caramel Crumble topped with vanilla ice cream and loved every bite!
google avatar

Rosa M.

Yelp
Long line and wait but definitely worth it! They have a large variety of pies which you can get by the slice or an entire pie. Seating is a bit hard as it is super busy but if you're willing to wait a bit something will open up. You can also get the pie to go and reheat at home.
google avatar

Regine A.

Yelp
Wow. The best pie can be found here! I waited about 30 minutes in line on a snowy day. Was it worth the wait? Absolutely!! The line moved slowly, but surely. I ordered 2 slices; apple berry crumble and apple crumble pie. Along with a blueberry muffin and a cup of real whipped cream. Everything was soooo good. I don't even like pastries or sweets like that -- but yo... Mom's Pie House knows what they're doing! I love how the pie is not overly sweet. It's naturally sweet. The crust is tasty too. I'd definitely come back for another slice or whole pie! The employees were busy, but delivered great customer service. I loved being greeted and personally handed my order after waiting. There's also fresh honey and other pastries available to order. There's a lot of seating inside which is nice. 10 out of 10 recommend Mom's Pie House.
google avatar

Bob M.

Yelp
Excellent pies, service and atmosphere! Friendly staff as well. The only downside is the PRICE! $6.50 for one small slice of pie is way high. About six bites. Whole pies are a better value if you want to take out or need 6 pieces!!!
google avatar

Rick S.

Yelp
Wonderful choices. We got an apple berry pie. One of the best ever!!!! Service was great and the store is very cute.
google avatar

Elisa N.

Yelp
This was one of the hot spots in Julian that i've been dying to try ever since coming here! This was my first time and the line was out there door, however the wait wasn't super bad, it was about 15 minutes. The place itself was spacious, everyone that was in line was against the door until they got to the register, and the pies were all on the side for you to take a look as you wait in line. There was numerous of flavors, coming from their original apple, to apply berry, pecan and much more. I decided to get the apple and my boyfriend got bumbleberry pie and it was at about $6.50 per slice, and adding $2.00 for ice cream. This was so delicious, and i'd recommend getting the crumbled version rather the flaky top. Parking can be difficult on weekends except we found a street one just up the hill. There is a bathroom available and plenty room for seating, definitely recommend snatching it right after you order!
google avatar

Yelp
Update 7/14/25 I tried their bumble berry pie with the traditional crust. Wow it was amazing so much thin buttery crust, and not overwhelmingly sweet with just a touch of tartness.

Yelp
We had a caramel apple crumble pie from Mom's as our Thanksgiving dessert. We live in San Diego and saw that for the holidays, Mom's offered pick up for their pies at a hearth store in La Mesa. Reservation and pick up of the pie was simple. It is an average sized pie at a reasonable price. Of course it's more expensive than getting your pie from Marie Callendar's or Costco, but it's cheaper than other options like Pop Pie Co. Taste-wise, I thought it was pretty good, but a little TOO sweet for my liking. Regardless it brightened up our Thanksgiving and I would definitely consider re-ordering for another special occasion.
google avatar

Lillian W.

Yelp
I wouldn't consider myself a pie person, but I definitely loved the pie here!! Notorious for a long line on weekends, I was thrilled that we got to order immediately on a Friday afternoon! The servers were SO lovely in helping us decide what to get. The caramel apple crisp pairs PERFECTLY with a scoop of cinnamon ice cream (and oddly enough, a piece of sharp cheddar -- a suggestion from my Midwest bf). I'm officially a pie convert! I will definitely be back to try the apple berry. And definitely don't miss out on some hot spiced cider! That will warm up your soul on a chilly day. Can't wait for my next visit here!

Yasamin S.

Yelp
Best pie shop in Julian! I buy a bumble berry in the morning before they run out and come back for a warm slice of apple crumb. The apple cider was great too!
google avatar

Yvette S.

Yelp
Favorite stop for pie in Julian, Mom's the best pie! never disappoints. It was a November fall crisp day with wind that needed a slice of warm pie and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Ordered pumpkin, apple flaky, apple crumb and cherry, all with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Delicious, fresh and warm, so yummy! I personally love their crumble pie, the crust is just right with the perfect bits of cinnamon and sugar mmm! The wait was about an hour-hour and fifteen minutes but it was well worth it. Customer service is always great. The cashiers are always smiling and sweet, this time was no different. There was also a nice lady wiping down tables, she was sweet, and checked in on everyone, very attentive. Restrooms had everything we needed and clean.
google avatar

David M.

Yelp
Mom's or Julian Pie Company. This is the question that visitors to Julian ask themselves. We lean toward Julian Pie Company but due to a longer line, we waited in what was still a long line for Mom's. The Apple pie is scrumptious, divine, such a treat! However this review is about a recently discovered item that was on display in their window...apple dumplings! I was curious and asked. A nice lady who was working stopped what she was doing and told us what they were and that they were very delicious. Glad we bought one because of her, brought it home, and now have a new treat that we will regularly buy when visiting Julian.
google avatar

Karlo S.

Yelp
I mean...how can you not love pie? Lol. Julian's many pie options will leave you full and satisfied. Mom's is as as homemade tasting as you would expect by the name. It feels down home, it smells inviting and it 100% tastes delicious. You definitely can't go wrong with even the simplest pies - the original apple. The pie filling is so delicious and just perfectly sweet. But my absolute favorite is definitely the apple crumb. The sweet and buttery layer of crumbs on top is just so darn good. And what better way than to top it off with vanilla ice cream?! And if vanilla is too basic for you, you do have other flavor options as well to choose from. They also have other fruit pies and mixed pies and even have sugar-free options for those looking to indulge but keep it low glucose. Lines can be a bit long, especially on weekends, and it moves fairly slow sometimes. But at least it's worth the wait at the end!
google avatar

Ellre W.

Yelp
One of the must-try pie spots in Julian, and my favorite among the bunch. I went again recently for a family Fall trip, and was surprised to find there wasn't the typical line outside the door. This was my first time trying the apple dumpling, and it will now be my go-to order. It's more expensive than a slice of apple pie ($5.50 vs $7.95), however definitely big/filling enough to share. We added on a scoop of ice cream for an additional $2. Would recommend trying the apple dumpling at least once, especially if you're a fan of pie crust!
google avatar

Khamphone K.

Yelp
I drove to Julian last week and really wanted to get a pie; after dinner I ran over to Moms pie house. It was a few minutes before closing time and I was happy that they were able to squeeze in an order in for me. I picked out their apple crumble whole pie and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The prices really jumped up but it's totally worth it. I thank them for my stuff and left to walk around the area some more. Once I got finished walking around and exploring, I remembered I left my Stanley at Moms pie house. I ran over and thank God there were staff there still. They recognized me and gave me my cup back. They were looking for me too lol. Excellent staff, friendly service. Clean pie shop with lots of tables and seating area. So many varieties of pies available and pastries. 10 out of 10 for everything.
google avatar

Anna B.

Yelp
Love coming here every year in the fall! Ate a slice of apple pie + cinnamon ice cream which is delicious, I love how the apple pie comes warm. I also bought an apple berry crumb pie to take home, can't wait to eat it! Located on the Main Street of Julian, street parking nearby. Limited seating inside, there's usually a line especially during the fall season but it goes by fast.
google avatar

Daniella P.

Yelp
Not only is this place so cute but the pie tastes so amazing and fresh. The pie is always warm and they have an insane amount of flavors. The line was kinda long but it moved fairly quickly. You're able to eat your pie inside although there isn't too much seating. Cool place!
google avatar

Marisol A.

Yelp
What can I say about this place besides it has AMAZING PIES!! Came up to Julian specifically to come to Mom's for their crumble bumbleberry pie (black berry, blueberry, raspberry) because it's just that freaking AMAZING! Took home a flaky apple pie also! Gotta get here early when doors open because if not you'll be standing in line that goes out the door and down the block! Staff is always very nice and works as fast as they can to serve everyone! Eat the side of pie on site with a scoop of vanilla ice cream if you can because it's SO GOOD! It's so warm band toast inside and the place just smells of delicious pies!! Love this place and will be back!!
google avatar

Hailey S.

Yelp
when we got here there wasn't too much of a wait at all! we wanted a pie slice that had a crumble on top but couldn't choose between cherry and apple but they had a cherry & apple crumble! so we got that :) service is great, the cashier was very very nice. you get a number and sit down, when they call your number, they'll bring it to your table. the inside has a few spots to sit at. our slice came out and it looked a bit disappointing :( the crumble was crunchy but not the crunch we were looking for. but there was a lot of cherries and apples in the slice! the pie wasn't as awesome as we were expecting but it was good to try

Yelp
Mom's Pie House is a solid choice in adorable Julian - and a main competitor to the Julian Pie Co. I stopped in on my way out to bring an apple pie home and it was fantastic!! They have a lot of pie flavors here and I went with the Apple Caramel Crumble Pie - took a whole one home and a loaf of their Apple bread. The pie was phenomenal! The apple slices were soft and the overall flavor was authentic and delicious. We ate the entire thing over the course of 3-4 days. Apple pie of any sort is the hubby's fave and he said this was lovely. For me, I can usually take it or leave it - Apple hasn't ever been a fave of mine - but this one was the best I tried - I loved it! The Apple bread was also delicious- very soft and full of supple pieces of apples and raisins with the perfect balance of spices - fantastic!! They had some pumpkin pie samples at the door and I can honestly say it was the BEST pumpkin pie I've ever tasted. I saw a pecan pie on my way out that looked fabulous as well but I already had too much sugar in my bag haha! They had a lot of pie flavor choices, along with cookies, breads, brownies, ice cream and even savory items like chicken pot pie and empanadas! Staff were all just delightful and prices were reasonable. They have a few tables inside for seating but it's limited. They weren't as packed as the Julian Pie Co so there was more room. The decor is down-home quaint country style and it was so warm and inviting. They're located right in the heart of adorable main street Julian - perfectly situated. I'll definitely be trying a slice of their pecan next time so I can compare to the Julian Pie Co.

L K.

Yelp
Fantastic service! I'm always amazed how quickly the line moves. Great customer service and friendly staff. Charming ambiance. I come for the empanadas (the spinach artichoke are my favorite) and the apple dumplings.

Sue H.

Yelp
This is not my first time to buy mom's apple pie. I buy mom's pie every year for thanksgiving and stop by here occasionally when I come to Julian. The pie was always delicious and wonderful. Last Thursday (9/18/25) my husband and I decided to go to Julian and bought an apple pie again. This time we tried a sugar free apple flakey pie first time. The pie was just dried. Apples inside were dried. Crust was dried. Everything was dried. I did not taste any pie texture from this pie. No moisture at all. I won't stop coming here to buy pies because of this experience but this time was a big disappointment. A lady at the cashier was super nice though. She answered all my questions.

Yelp
Mom's pie house is a lovely pie shop in Julian. Definitely a staple to visit when visiting the small rural town. The pies are made fresh everyday with fresh picked local ingredients. My favorite pies are the boysenberry and apple pies with the crumble crust and ice cream of course. You can take these pies whole to go or by the slice to eat inside. Doing both is a must if you're visiting. The prices are also reasonable with the whole pies ranging around $22 and the slice with ice cream by about $6-8 from what I remember. The atmosphere is very homey and inviting and the service looks slow out front but is fast when you order. It is just very packed, especially on the weekends
google avatar

Jason Y.

Yelp
Great little stop in Julian. Known for the apple pies the wife decided to take a trip. Line was way shorter that "Julian" pies were good. The cashier/server was super fun. Told us to sit anywhere and brought our pies. No complaints except I don't really like sweets but everyone else I was with did.
google avatar

Oscar Daniel R.

Yelp
Why drive to Julian CA? Pies! Where? MOM'S duhhh. This place was very cute inside. They have great gift merchandise available and the restaurant smells wonderful. The service was friendly but they do not allow dogs. Overall I would return. Prices were cheap and reasonable!
google avatar

Shanika H.

Yelp
Julian is always such a great place to visit. This little town has quite a bit to offer. Lots of mom and pop shops and restaurants. Mom's is a go to must for dessert though. The pies are sooooo good. My favorite is a classic apple pie and ice cream, but they have so many flavors. The staff are great. It's a small little place, but I've never had a problem getting seating. Most people are respectful and get up once they're done to keep it moving. But even if you don't eat your pie there definitely get one to take back home. You r taste buds won't regret it!
google avatar

Nathan N.

Yelp
Well worth the hourlong wait, people apparently come to the town of Julian for the pie. I found myself slipping into an adjacent store to explore while my friend was waiting in line for me (we took shifts so we could explore the town properly). The workers are super friendly and helpful, despite the hectic line and immense pressure I can only assume they must be feeling. It is super cozy and warm in here, as is the town of Julian as a whole. We thankfully lined up when we did because by the time we left the pie shop, the line was double what it was when we were at the back of the line. Despite their official closing time, they seem to stay open until they run out of pie.
google avatar

Isabelle W.

Yelp
Apple pie is obviously a must when you come to Julian and this place did not disappoint. The line was long but it went by quickly! The Apple crumble pie was delicious and had caramel drizzled on top. I added their homemade whipped cream and it was fantastic! They also have a lot of pie options that look amazing if Apple is not up your alley. Perfect sweet treat when visiting Julian.
google avatar

Stella Z.

Yelp
The Apple pie here is good with vanilla ice cream. It's always worth the drive up to julian just for this pie. Love how you could see them make the pastries and pies through the storefront window. Staff was super friendly and nice. They have so many variety of pies to choose from. Highly recommend this place for some good pies.
google avatar

Miriam S.

Yelp
Great service and plenty of pie options! I pick the apple dumpling with a scoop of cinnamon ice cream since it was by the window and it was delicious! The apple was still crispy and a little tart but not too sweet. The dough had a wonderful consistency, crispy and slightly sweet. The cinnamon ice cream was the perfect add on but then I got too full. I also bought a whole sugar free apple pie for the family and it was excellent!
google avatar

Jodi Y.

Yelp
They have the cutest shirts here! Sad I didn't take a picture so can't show you guys. But you just have to stop by Mom's for the pies & also see their apparel! We ordered a full apple pie & sat inside. It wasn't as warm as the single sliced pies but more affordable. I liked the crumble on top, would be nice if they topped it a bit more. Julian is a cute town & many pie shops nearby

Yelp
This is a cute old school pie shop that is a must try when in Julian. The line is long, usually around 45 minutes during peak times, but it's worth it!! Don't miss your chance to visit a legend.
