I meandered through my former Seattle neighborhood atop Queen Anne, to enjoy the tail end of autumn foliage. The former Top Pot location at 4th Ave W & W Galer St has opened yesterday as Mon Chou (10/31/25).
Currently, there are French pastries and desserts with beverages available.
They are open at 7am until 2pm, or until baked goods are sold out. These are baked fresh daily in Madison Park. Eventually, they will be able to do onsite small batch baking as the space evolves behind the front counter.
Plentiful indoor seating: community table, banquette seating, and limited outdoor two top sidewalk tables. Bright, airy interior with lots of natural light.
Other deets: WiFi available, limited outlets. Coffee beans are from Fulcrum. Street parking & on Metro bus 2 route. Caffe Vita is down the street (healthy competition). Walking distance from Kerry Park & W Highland and main throughfare, Queen Anne Ave N. Compostable plates & cups at the moment.
With the plethora of coffee/pastry shops & cafes in Seattle, what did I try?
*16oz mocha ($7.40)
*Pain au Chocolat ($5.99)
*Savory Quiche ($9.29)
With tax & tip, nearly $27!
I'll call it Seattle priced for today's economy.
Mocha was okay, just did not hold its temp, especially since I sat right by the front window. It was nice to be asked my milk preference though.
Pain au chocolat had soft lamination and two chocolate batons. Sorry no cross section photo...did not want to brutalize the pastry with a compostable knife.
Savory quiche was a bit unwieldy despite being provided an actual fork. It is shallow in height, eggy of course with tiny cubes of ham.
I was onsite for nearly 90 minutes. It was a plus to see the counter staff be very welcoming and well informed. It was just me, several takeouts, and curious neighborhood inquiries initially. But as time went on, more folks chose to remain onsite to dine, have convos, and to read. Not a laptop in sight. Solid 4 to 4.5 stars, rounded to a 5.
Pleasant corner cafe with French flair and quality!
