"With sweeping views of the sea from the floor-to-ceiling windows that wrap around three sides of the restaurant, guests can toast the sunset with a cool grapefruit frose while the bartender shares a daily poem. Local tip: They don’t take reservations, but you can pop in earlier in the day to request a table for your party at a preferred time." - Helen I. Hwang

Food and atmosphere was fantastic! Views of the ocean were amazing on the deck. Fish and chips were great but the flatbread was the star. Bacon cheeseburger was good and juicy. Drinks were yummy, especially the pistachio espresso martini. Typical pricing for the area. Service was nice but very slow, just a heads up.

Google
Overall an amazing dining experience. We were told to wait for a window table would be about 45 minutes so we put our name down and waited on the outside viewing area where they also serve food and drinks. We ordered 2 cocktails and found a table with a beautiful view of the ocean and street below. The cocktails were not the best especially considering the price but the service was quick. Once our table was ready, we were seated at a table by the window. Becky was our server and she was just absolutely lovely! We ordered a steak along with the fish and chips. Fish and chips were good, excellent aioli and tartar sauces. We ordered a medium steak and they didn’t bring it out till it was cooked perfectly. The appetizers tasted good and their dessert is a good finisher for the meal. The caviar to this place is to show up around sunset to hear the poem of the day, we were poem #921 and it actually made me go into deep thought… the crew and the vibe of this place is exactly what Del Mar is about. Would highly recommend this place

The place is bustling with people and great music! We went for dinner with friends and loved our time there Food : We got quite a few things off the menu and my favourite was the Monarch bowl and Mac and cheese! It was tasty and would definitely go back for it Service : It was impeccable! We were a group 12+ and the hostess was on point with our order and it was quick too! Ambience : Loved it! As it’s near the shore the wind is lovely and it feels you’re at the beach while not being on the shore itself

Google
Great vibes with a view of the ocean. Lots of sandwich options (chicken, burgers, etc.). I had the monarch bowl with grilled chicken and it was delicious. The pita was very fresh. I also enjoyed the cucumber and hibiscus non-alcoholic drink options. Will definitely be back!

This is where we always start our time here in Del Mar or entering San Diego after the long drive and we time it with their happy hour where they offer this amazing 'FISH SANDO' this and anything else on the menu is incredible as they serve great big portions and a ton of good options. We like to sit at the bar facing the sea and let the breezes do their thang. We support you ordering Champagne, Bloody Marys and Expresso Martinis in full rotation. This place has got the greatest wait staff and fun bartenders who wear visors straight outta the 1980s - which definitely accompany the Neon signage and the mural of non other than my spirit animal Tom Selleck.

Google
I loved this restaurant! The food was absolutely amazing! They had lots of choices as well for the cocktails. We went on mother's day so it was crowded and we had to wait about 30 minutes, but usually it isn't. But in conclusion this place is great! There's also an AMAZING view of the ocean.

We chose this place to celebrate my wife’s birthday. What a GREAT decision. The atmosphere here is electric especially at sunset! The food is amazing. Thanks to our server we had just the best experience! Can’t wait to come back. Update: I was fortunate enough to take my wife and mother-in-law here to celebrate Mothers Days 2025! It was just as amazing as I remember it. Our server Clyde made the experience even better!

The vibe here is very cool. A friendly male hostess seated us straight away, our waitress is friendly and attentive. The monarch bowl with salmon was delicious and that's all i wanted, it's filling too.

Yelp
My friend and I came here after dinner. I've always been curious what Monarch was every time I drove past it. It's a really nice upscale bar that has a decent dinner menu. There are plenty of seating at the bar, tables in their dining room, as well as a large outdoor patio overlooking the ocean. It's massive! I had a cucumber mint cooler and. My friend ordered an espresso martini. We also got a Nosh Board to share. The board included chef's selection of artisan cheeses and cured meats, pickles, almonds, strawberries, dried cranberries, olives, artichoke hearts, and herb toasted baguette. I didn't care for the herb toasted baguette and found it rather greasy. Plain toasted baguette would've been better in my opinion. Beautiful ambiance and really great service! They have a nice Happy Hour on Mondays - Fridays 4-6pm with food and drinks that's worth checking out.

Yelp
Good ambiance, nice view, and food is good (not saying anything amazing) Although I might complain for the cocktails... are terrible, I order a Hugo Spritz, and they used like 4-5 different things, and I tasted totally bad, nothing like a Hugo Spritz. Then I had an espresso martini and same thing, they don't even have an espresso machine or coffee, so whatever they use for the martini is nos an espresso and you can totally tell.

Yelp
Had dinner with my husband and friends at Monarch Ocean Pub on a Friday night, and it certainly won't be the last. They don't take reservations, so there was a 45-minute wait when we arrived. However, the time passed quickly since we hung out at the bar. Food: 5/5 The Fish & Chips were fantastic. The fish was tender, flaky, and perfectly battered--not oily, with just the right crispiness. The fries are amazing; they taste like a cross between chips and french fries. I'm glad my husband and I both got fries because it meant I could have more. The House Smoked Turkey Sandwich was another highlight. The portions are generous and delicious. I ate the other half of my sandwich the next day, and it was just as good. The sandwich comes with avocado, provolone, bacon, pickles, tomato, pickled onion, sprouts, and mayo, all served on toasted sourdough. Drinks: 5/5 The Espresso Martini is a must-try if you enjoy espresso martinis. It was perfectly balanced and delicious. The Moscow Mule, though not served in the traditional copper mug, was still very tasty. Atmosphere: 5/5 Monarch's motto is "Cheers to me, Cheers to you, here's to a hell of a view," and it aligns perfectly with the pub's lovely charm. It's comfy, spacious, and stylish. We were seated inside, right by a fireplace and a TV playing sports. The husbands were happy, and we wives were quite satisfied with the atmosphere, drinks, and food. It was a great time. Staff: 5/5 The staff was helpful and accommodating, even on a busy night. They made the experience smooth and enjoyable despite the crowd. Parking: 3/5 Parking in the area is limited during weekends, so expect to either hunt for street parking or pay for a spot. We parked at the garage located under the restaurant. It was about $28 for 5 hours of parking.

Yelp
Cute place to hangout. Popular during sunset. I'll come back here again for the ambient, service; not sure abt the food. Ordered a charcuterie board, not worthy for what we paid for. Parking can be challenging, did manage the park in front for 2 hrs.

Marija P.

Yelp
I absolutely love Monarch! Their happy hour is amazing, with great food options and affordable drinks. Last night, we went for dinner and had the Monarch Bowl with some protein, and I had the fish and chips--probably the best chips of my life, especially with the tzatziki sauce. The cocktails were fantastic, and the ocean views made the whole experience even better. My recommendation? Go for happy hour, watch the sunset, and enjoy the perfect evening!

Yelp
This place is a must visit for the ambience! Rooftop deck seating, overlooking the ocean, casual patio style seating, relaxed atmosphere- what's not to like!! And on top of that- the outside area is dog friendly. The food was okay- we tried two flatbreads, both were okay. The service was lacking though. We were told to seat ourselves outside which was fine but they didn't tell us that meant no service at the table. Then after waiting a while we walked over to someone who basically told us his area was being closed for a private event but nothing about how we could get service. Finally we just looked at the signage posted in the outside bar area to figure out we would have to order there and then go pick up the food. Totally cool with that except I wish the host stand had clarified that rather than just saying yeah you can sit outside on the patio with your dog.

Jules C.

Yelp
Definitely a happy hour must visit! We ordered most things off of the HH menu and was not disappointed. We were a bit late to watch the sunset but maybe next time. We tried the parker rolls, calamari, brussel sprouts, Caesar salad and chicken sandwich, and chicken fingers for the kiddo. Portions were great, service was good. Food maybe came out slower but it was busy. No big deal. Appreciated the waitress coming over to get last call for HH orders into the kitchen. We were stuffed but so happy we went. Very kid friendly- was able to get a booth with booster for him.

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday around 3:30 pm. We were able to find parking in the parking garage around the the block for ~$9 for ~2 hours. We only had to wait ~5 minutes to be seated for 7 of us. The scenery is beautiful here. Great views of the ocean. Menu has lots of options from shareables to small plates to main dishes. Everything sounded very good and it was hard to choose what to order. My group split a couple things to try many options. I thought the prices were great for the atmosphere. We ordered the Parker House Rolls ($8), Crispy Brussel Sprouts ($12) , and Potato and Gruyere Croquette ($11). We loved the truffle butter that came with the rolls, the flavor of truffle was strong but delicious. The brussel sprouts were also very crispy and came with a good amount. Overall we really enjoyed the food and had a nice time here!

Yelp
We were in Del Mar for a Friday wedding, so naturally we had to fuel before the wedding. We arrived right around 11:15 (they open at 11) and were sat right away!! Most of the tables right at the windows with the view are only 2-person tables so we sat at a large booth a bit away from the windows but it was so comfy and we could still see the view of the ocean. I ordered the spicy chicken sandwich with fries and my husband ordered the burger. Both were delicious!! The burger was huge!!! Loaded with meat and bacon - he couldn't even finish it. The fries were really unique - a hybrid between a chip and a fry and I loved how crisp they were. Service was pretty good but they didn't refill our waters one time during our meal, which was a bit disappointing since we were all thirsty. Overall pretty good food and amazing views and ambience.

L. W.

Yelp
This place is gorgeous. It's really packed so be ready to wait as it can be very crowded and busy. I had my dog with us so we waited for the bridge area where my dog could also be but they also have a whole outdoor patio that is dog friendly. The food was good but you're really there for the amazing views and lovely interior and ext. design of the space! The waits for things (food/drinks) were long but it was fun.

Yelp
I've ventured to this restaurant multiple times with family and friends. Always a great time and service. We visited on a Sunday which I totally forgot, so we put our names down and went to the deck to have a cocktail. We ordered the Watermelon Basil Smashes which are non alcoholic, but we added tequila to it. IM TELLING YOU THAT THIS WAS ONE OF THE BEST DRINKS EVER. As we sipped our cocktails as a guy was playing live music. What a vibe. As we finished our drinks, we received the notification that our table was ready. We ordered another round of the smashes and started off with the Crispy Lologi Calamari. We really enjoyed the dish, but were thrown off by the crispy capers. I've honestly never seen capers this large and were filled with seeds. We both ordered the Monarch Bowl for lunch, but i added chicken since she's pescatarian. The mixture of all the veggies was amazing which I never thought would all be good together. The beauty of the view and everything is awesome. This spot is beautiful and a charm in Del Mar. My rating is a 9/10.

Ray L.

Yelp
We had terrible service here. It was a beautiful view but we wouldn't return. We sat with a view to the water. Waited 25 minutes to even meet our server to ask for some water on a hot day and waited 35 minutes for the table. We asked a waitress if she may be ours and if we could order politely... her response was a crooked face and she said "uhm no." Then walked away. Not even offering to find our server or a smile in saying no so this wasn't a great experience. They don't comp parking but they did have a quick bat outside so some plus somewhere in the experience

Justine H.

Yelp
It's only been a couple weeks since my first review but I really enjoyed my last outing with friends and the food was delicious, great presentation. We came on a Thursday night to watch the game and even though we were late to our table being ready they so generously allowed us to still grab a table immediately and even gave us the comfy chairs by the fireplace with the big tv! It was all warm and cozy and a great time. I will say our server definitely forgot about us but we enjoyed our food and time regardless.

Denise K.

Yelp
Dani, our server was great! We enjoyed the burger (large!!) and beet/sweet potato salad w chicken (the small order was generous and plenty!) The cocktails were realllly good...old fashioned and a martini Cheers!!

Martin L.

Yelp
Had some out of town guests. Perfect place to show them the beauties of San Diego. Amazing view of the ocean while sipping drinks. A great place to relax after a long day. On Mondays bartender reads a poem was a happy surprise. Drinks were well made. Had some appetizers. Menu was a bit pricey. But worth it for the view and ambiance.

Amy X.

Yelp
Came here for drinks and light snacks and this place did not disappoint. We ordered the ceviche and several drinks here. We had the dragonfruit margarita, Pineapple Express, and smoke on the watermelon. Would highly recommend the dragon fruit margarita and the Pineapple Express! The ceviche was surprisingly good and they serve really big shrimp bites here lol! We also ordered the croquette and those were very delicious too!! This place is located on the second floor and there is parking garage. The first hour is free! The views here are also beautiful since it overlooks the ocean.

Anthony H.

Yelp
We had a friend/family gathering here from out of town, and I absolutely loved the food and vibe here. The drinks were on point, we had an espresso martini and coffee. I had the Pastrami Sandwich, and I think it's the best Pastrami Sandwich I ever had. There was definitely love put into it. The fries were amazing as well. The restaurant is located perfectly to see the ocean and coast. I'd love to come by and try something else from their menu in the future!

Parisa M.

Yelp
Friendly staff and a nice ambiance, but the food and wait time are not exactly the greatest. We waited more than 1 hour so if you have plenty of time and no rush you could choose this restaurant. we ordered fish and Brussels and some appetizers. I don't recommend Brussels.

Carter K.

Yelp
Went into Monarch for a bite to eat while in San Diego the other week and really enjoyed the atmosphere at Monarch Ocean Pub. There is a lot of natural light, overlooks the ocean and town, and they have TV's if you're a sports person. A great location for any occasion! The Spicy Chicken sandwich was delicious, I got a side salad with it and was a big fan of the sandwich and salad. I'm a spice lover and didn't think it was very spicy but don't take my word for that. We also got the Applewood Bacon Burger and thought it was great! Not pictured is the Yellowfin Tuna Poke that was my favorite item!!

Kim T.

Yelp
The restaurant sits a couple of floors up so we got a great view of the Del Mar ocean. Our server Casey was super nice and personable. All the portions are big enough to share. Everything we had was delicious. For appetizers, we got the ceviche, poke, and calamari. My friends shared the Cobb salad and a turkey sandwich. They ordered the half salad but I swear it was as big as my full sized Caesar salad. The salmon was perfectly cooked. Not too dry and good flavor. I would love to come back here next time and sit outside on the patio.

Hannah O.

Yelp
pleasantly surprised by such a wonderful experience at Monarch! we came in around 730p and were immediately seated, and our waitress was kind enough to make sure our party of 3 was taken care of before taking orders for a group of 12 next to us lol. we were almost done with our food by the time theirs came out, so we're very appreciative. the FRIES. OMG. must order! they're like a mix of chip/wedge/fry and they have the perfect shape for dipping. the ranch they make in house is sooo good. we were all satisfied with our entrees but most impressed by their fries. definitely want to come back during the sunset hours to get an ocean view table next time!!

Christina H.

Yelp
Absolutely LOVE this place!!! The open air space is so nice and the views are spectacular! Great place for happy hour with decent selection of food and drinks just in time for the golden hour sunset over the ocean

Mereen H.

Yelp
Enjoy your skinny margarita with hair in it!!! I wasn't going to post this but the server was so careless about it!

Caitlin W.

Yelp
Went a few weeks ago and it was a fantastic idea! The splace has a beautiful interior with ocean views, a central bar, and countless televisions!

Monica R.

Yelp
Sat outside and the weather was perfect. Got a nice view of the beach while we enjoyed our lunch. Started with the calamari which was perfectly crispy and full of flavor. The dipping sauces were both great. Had the crispy skin salmon bowl. The salmon was good but it could have used a little more flavor. For my drink I got the yuzu blossom. My drink was refreshing but the alcohol was barely there. Tasted more like a lemonade. Overall the service was good.

Katherine K.

Yelp
Came here on the most wonderful first date! The view was beautiful and I loved the aesthetic of the place as a whole. I tried a few drinks and they were incredibly sweet even though I asked for no added syrup or sugar. Service was okay. They aren't the quickest so try to be ready when they come take your order because you never know when they'll end up stopping by again. My date and I just ended up sharing a bunch of things: BBQ Lettuce Wraps, Carrots and I believe Wagyu Steak. We also got these sesame rice crackers, but I don't remember if that was part of the wagyu steak dish or not (they changed their menu so I can't check). The carrots were good, but basic. The lettuce wraps definitely didn't have enough meat provided compared to how much lettuce was given. The sesame rice crackers were deliciously crispy. The star of the whole meal was definitely the steak. It was beautifully cooked, but crazy expensive. The whole meal was more expensive than I expected, but you're definitely paying for the view. Food was pretty good, but the service and drinks need work.

Romina T.

Yelp
Our tradition on the first day of school is to go out for brunch and we have always wanted to check out his spot! We love the cool outdoor deck with pocket views of the water. Our server was very nice and helpful. They didn't have brunch on week day but they informed us they have one on Sundays. We started with the Potato croquettes which had nice and crispy exterior and cheesy delicious interior. The Short Rib sandwich was phenomenal! There was a nice chimichurri sauce and the toasted marble rye bread made it great! We tried a few cocktails, the Hugo Spritz and the Paloma were delicious! Can't wait to come back with some friends!

Zahir Z.

Yelp
Was very crowded and my daughter and I were looking forward to a treat. The hostess was rude! Place was full -- probably bad service -- we were disappointed not going back. Good luck monarch with your stuff!!

Melanie M.

Yelp
Overrated and not worth it. Wanted to come here because of the view and good reviews. The hosts gave an option of sitting outside or waiting an hour. We didn't want to wait an hour so we went outside. One tiny table left at 5pm on a Friday in a small corner right next to the live music. Ordered smoke on the watermelon and a fish sandwich for $32 with tip! Shouldn't have even tipped because the food or drinks aren't brought to you. You order at the bar and wait for it there. You can't have glass outside either so all drinks are in a plastic cup. The cocktails are $17+ and not worth it. The smoke on the watermelon tasted bad. The fish sandwich was $8 during happy hour and was mediocre. I wish I would've gone somewhere else. I was still hungry after too.

Danielle M.

Yelp
Definitely the best happy hour with a view in north county! I'm a big fan of coming here after work to unwind with a glass of wine and a couple apps at the bar. The Caesar salad with the crispy capers is so good, same with the shisitos and the potato coquettes. They get busy so I suggest getting here on the early side of HH (4pm-6pm) so you can get a prime seat.

Madison S.

Yelp
Carissa was so unprofessional after leaving a bottle on the bar for 30+ min she proceeded to blame myself and the party I was with saying "she had never been to the bar and served herself" after we had thought we bought the bottle. She proceeded to get aggressive and tell each of her coworkers not to serve our entire party even water and act like we had disrespected her. I will not return to this establishment and it's a sad representation of monarch as a whole.

Steph H.

Yelp
STEPH JUDGEMENT: Cool, fun place with good food and service. My friends and I were looking for some light bites while walking around the area on a Saturday and this place looked good. Best of all, no wait for a table, although they were plenty busy--we must've gotten there at the right time. Located on the second floor of an upscale oceanside shopping center, it has an expansive, open-air dining room (which unfortunately let in some flies) with a bar that looks out to the ocean in the distance. The decor is refined beach shack, and the menu is elevated pub grub. We ordered: Watermelon salad -- very fresh, very good Fried calamari -- perfectly fried and satisfying Clam chowder -- I didn't have this but my friends liked it Smoked eggplant dip -- the only disappointment: utterly flavorless I got a dry Prosecco to accompany the meal, which was delicious. Our server was very friendly and on the ball. Overall we had a very nice time and I wouldn't hesitate to return the next time I'm in the area.

Cathie P.

Yelp
The view is absolutely amazing. Completely forgot to take a picture though! I am visiting the area and my friend who now lives on the West Coast suggested we meet here for lunch. Since the restaurant is out in the open, it was a little breezy, but the sun warms you up. We started with a cocktail, the dragon fruit margarita, which was pretty and fruity. It started our lunch on a yummy note. We ordered the brussels sprouts, the chicken pesto flatbread, and the pastrami sandwich. The brussels sprouts were just burnt enough and seasoned perfectly. I really enjoyed the chicken pesto flatbread. To be honest, it was more like a disfigured pizza than a flatbread but I still enjoyed it. The pastrami sandwich was interesting because I'm used to having pastrami on rye with mustard and nothing else. This pastrami sandwich had fixings in it, which added a different flavor to the sandwich than what I'm used to. If you're expecting a typical pastrami sandwich on rye, this is not it, but if you're willing to try a different take on pastrami, go for it. Since my friend and I were catching up, we were there for a couple of hours, taking longer than we probably should, but other than checking on us to see if we needed anything, they let us catch up. The food we had was all solid, the view is beautiful, and I wish I lived around here so that I could come more often to enjoy a leisurely meal with friends.

Elizabeth G.

Yelp
Great location for a fun atmosphere to get a drink and some great apps. It can get loud at times. We like hanging out at the patio to take in the beautiful Del Mar scenery. They have food and drinks to go and it is prompt.

Mabel B.

Yelp
Came with friends for a quick lunch. Easy parking in the deck or you can find street parking. Place is open and beautiful with ocean views. Staff was friendly once we sat. Plenty of items to choose from. Opted for the pork belly chowder which was delicious while we shared a pear salad, brussel sprouts, and ceviche. Drinks were fun and tasty. Definitely a fun vibe.

Don B.

Yelp
Monarch Ocean Pub in Del Mar offers beautiful views and ambiance of the ocean especially if you come at golden hour. Having come here for a work happy hour, this place is very lively with a guitarist playing, a poem reading at 5pm and stunning views of the ocean. They do have happy hour specials ranging from brussel sprouts, flat top burgers and potato croquettes, all were good and sharable. Service was excellent as our server checked on us frequently. Definitely put this on your list but come early to grab a table and enjoy the views at sunset.

Madison N.

Yelp
Great spot for a happy hour with a nice selection of drinks and food. Note: for happy hour there are no cocktail specials only wine and beer. A bit expensive but you can't beat the view!

Jane A.

Yelp
UPDATE... As you can see in my previous review that I love this place. Been here several times and tend to stick to the same order but then this recent visit wanted to "try something new". Outcome, learning what to order and not to order. This time around... :: SIPPIES/BITES :: WATERMELON BASIL SMASH ($8) - Watermelon, Fresh Basil, Soda Water. So refreshing and quenches the thirst! The watermelon flavor wasn't too syrupy sweet, the basil added a nice herbal touch, and the soda water gave it the carbonation spark. HIGHLY RECOMMEND CRISPY CALAMARI ($16) - Red Pepper Chile, Mikolich Family Honey, Scallions, Yuzu Aioli. I shall pass on this next time. Didn't feel the honey + calamari weren't a great combo. The crunchy out layer of the calamari reminded me southern fried hot chicken and wasn't feeling the sweetness from the honey with my calamari. Wasn't for me. SCALLOP & PORK BELLY CHOWDER ($12) - Yukon Potatoes, Celery, Scallions, Croutons. This bowl of chowder was surprisingly better than original anticipation. I knew it was going to be delicious but after the first spoonful it instantly hit me that this will not be my last time ordering this. The chowder was rich in flavor and the pork belly chucks added a salty element - it is a little saltier from. I expectation but it balanced out when eaten with globs of chowder. I could simply exclude the pork belly for just chowder and croutons. Who ever thought of putting croutons in their chowder?! I craved for more side croutons to throw in my chowder. I loved the light airy crunch that gets partly damped by the chowder. HIGHLY RECOMMEND Lobe this restaurant and will be back soon.

Yelp
I no longer live in San Diego proper (out in the valley now) but sometimes I make the long drive out to Monarch. Drinks are well made, you can't beat the view, the seating is so comfortable and there's good space, food is delicious! Appetizers can be a bit small (so don't think you can order one and be full; they're truly appetizers and you can have a meal after!) My only two complaints I'm not knocking them for: *It's a popular spot so when it gets busy it gets LOUD. I'm sensitive to this so I like to go during off-peak hours. For those of you that like a lively poppin spot this is going to be perfect! It's always such a fun vibe when it's busy. *Parking in the garage here is only for an hour so if you want to stay longer (which you totally do) skip the close garage and opt to walk just a tad. I think the garage before this one has two hours but don't quote me!

Brianna L.

Yelp
beautiful environment and view. great atmosphere (lots of sports fans watching on the tvs). for a sunday around 3pm, the wait time was minimal for 2 adults and a baby plus we were seated in our preferred area (closest to the view). Brian and Clyde were amazing, gracious servers. delicious food. we ordered the calamari, rolls, pasta, a flatbread and ooooooh the cucumber drink was so refreshing. this was my second time here but first time on a weekend and not happy hour and i am thoroughly impressed. i will suggest this place to everybody and will come back when im in town.

Craig Z.

Yelp
Terrific service, great pricing, beautiful views, and very tasty food. What a great place! The chowder was off the hook, and the fries were killer!

Courtney H.

Yelp
Love this spot. The first time I happened upon it after a beach hike and didn't realize the trendiness of the place. Imagine me sweaty and disheveled post-workout among a backdrop of a dressed-for-brunch crowd and cringing about my appearance. Luckily, my self-consciousness was short-lived as my friend and I were seated and given wonderfully friendly service and excellent food. The lobster roll was an easy selection, and it hit the spot. More recently, I went for dinner and was more appropriately dressed. We were seated right by the open window so had a clear view of the ocean, which felt extra special. The vibe was buzzy and fun, and we ordered cocktails and both had the short ribs, which were comforting and delicious. It's a generous portion, and I would 100% order the dish again. We finished with the Hawaiian donuts made with ube and served with vanilla gelato. The donuts were light and fluffy and not too sweet, the perfect way to end the meal. Again, service was spot-on -- our server was engaging, friendly, quick to come around and fill up water and check on us. Plus, a fun note about this place is they recite a poem at sunset every night. (Remember that movie Cocktail? It reminded me of that though less rowdy.) This one talked about making your own happiness and being kind to one another, and though, the poem was lighthearted and a little silly, it really felt like between the oceanview, the hospitality, food, and poetic reminder, all of it came together perfectly, just for me. Tip: If it's busy, just put in your name and go to the outside deck around the corner and get a coffee or cocktail while you wait.

Yelp
I did not make reservations which was my mistake since it was very busy on a Sunday night! Luckily, It didn't take very long to be seated since the hostess team was on top of turning tables. In the meantime we settled in at the bar where we enjoyed the Pineapple Express and the grapefruit frosé. Yum! Both were delightfully refreshing and they squeeze their own citrus in house. Doesn't get more so-cal than that! For dinner we enjoyed the chicken sandwich and the pear salad. The salad was fantastic with a crispy quinoa and caramelized pears that were to die for. On top of a tasty dinner and drinks, there is a special sunset toast which really brought the night to a great close and they read a poem that was written the same day as the sun fell behind the horizon. I thought that was so unique and cute! The reader had the attention of the entire restaurant. Great service, great experience, I can't wait to visit again!

Yelp
Amazing view. Great atmosphere. Good food and great drinks. Had the short rib pastrami and it was incredible. We had probably half the cocktails on the menu and none of them disappointed. The service was perfect. If you're in Del Mar, definitely stop by.

Yelp
Other than being swarmed by bees at the bar and a bartender with a mike shouting to the crowd, "It's time to start saying goodbye to the tourists. Pack up your sunscreen, your matts and your hats. It's time for us Del Mar locals to take our town back," I had a decent time here. I will never get tired of looking at the huge mural of Tom Selleck on one wall. Regardless of the owners or themes that have changed a few times over the years, the view is the best and the bar is usually crowded with beautiful people. Pets are allowed and the outdoor deck provides an open view of the street and ocean. Hey bartender, you will miss the tourists' tips now, won't you? I will always come back to this spot, but pay more attention to the ocean and sunset and and tip well as long as I get good service.

Yelp
We love this place - tried a wide assortment of things in their menu over the course of a few visits and everything has been good. Drinks are also delish - they do a great job! View is amazing but if you want to watch sunset with a good spot, you'll need to get there early. Few of our faves: Smoked Chicken Wings Crispy Chicken Sandwich HH Burger

Yelp
Such a cute place for happy hour, but be warned - come early in small groups or be prepared to wait. I don't remember much of what we got for food, but they were definitely tasty. The real win here is the amount of care put into each drink on the specialty cocktail list, which isn't part of happy hour, but they were so tasty I'd gladly pay full price for them again and again. The mai tai with POG foam was one of the best drinks I've ever had in my life. Of course, the ocean views are absolutely gorgeous. We came during the colder season, but I can only imagine how gorgeous it is now that it's summer. Definitely on the list of places I need to make my way back to!

Yelp
Came here on Thursday night for a late night eat a drink and this is probably my fourth or fifth time here. Got there around 10 PM so at this point everybody was pretty drunk and so it was definitely a more rowdy crowd which I've grown accustomed to seeing as it is like that every single time I'm here the vibe was just OK because of this the food is also OK there are definitely Select items that are delicious but I wouldn't go riding home about this menu. We got the lobster and shrimp sliders to start which were absolutely delicious. I highly highly recommend it's like a lobster and shrimp. Lobster mini lobster roll very delicious! I had an old-fashioned with angels envy sort of my go to so nothing unique about this drink. It was good for my entrée. I had the salmon it was just OK. I forgot to take a photo since I was so hungry, but it basically comes on a little mini salad with quinoa, and I also ordered the charred broccolini as a side, which is delicious every single time that's probably one of my favorite items on the menu. Parking is super easy as there's a parking structure downstairs and since I've come at odd times, I don't usually have a hard time parking. I also believe they have valet during the day which I'm sure would be very helpful when it's crowded as monarch is probably one of the most crowded places in Del Mar. Overall, I would definitely recommend this restaurant. You can't beat the view and there's usually some sort of crowd in there creating some sort of atmosphere and vibe. The food is neither bad nor good, but it is one of the few places that has a kitchen open late. I believe their kitchen is open until 11 PM which is great.

Yelp
Absolutely loved my experience and will come back for another beautiful sunset! There was plenty of parking and both the ambiance and food were amazing. We came on a Sunday evening for some food and drink and thoroughly enjoyed our time. We tried several cocktails and some white wine alongside the mushroom burrata flat bread, shisito peppers, lobster roll, burgers, salad and fries. The staff were so attentive and gave us the most relaxing experience. Cannot wait for my next visit!
