Mona's

We stumbled upon Mona's during a Google search and it didn't disappoint..it has a divy vibe, friendly people...pool table in front..and a great outside front patio. The drinks are strong and reasonably priced. Our amazing Bartender Mark was entertaining with fun stories and and quick wit. If you're in Fort lauderdale get off the drive and check out Mona's.

The bar has been open 20 years. Josh, The new Bartender Tommy and the Owner are awesome. They welcome you right away as if you have been going to that bar for years. I just relocated here from southern California and I have to say this bar is awesome. It's your neighborhood cheers bar. The drinks are reasonable and strong. The atmosphere is awesome. This is the place to come and have a few after work.

A friendly neighborhood bar with great patrons. I went alone and had a great time talking with the locals who frequent regularly. Was my first time and not the last drinks are very reasonably priced spent less than 20 bucks for a night out not bad!

I've been searching for a local gem for the past few years, and I've finally found my new favorite spot "Mona's" is the place to go music and stuff are great. Special shoutout to bartender Jason, We spent a pleasant afternoon socializing with other patrons. This is definitely the place to hang and enjoy.

I've been coming for years. I was attacked and no one wants to back me the Guest of at least 15 years. I called the police. No one wants help. I'm not coming back. I really hate to say this because I love this place but I'm gonna call it a scumbag Bar.

Lisa's Backyard is a separate area part of Monas Cocktail Lounge, but worth a separate review to know about. It's an outdoor patio area. It's very pleasant though overlooking a parking lot with also having a closeup view of the North Coast Railway tracks with all the sights and sounds the trains have to offer. Like Monas, it is smoking so if you think you are going to get away from cigarette smoke filled Monas, you're wrong. It doesn't have a table bar service. So, for a drink, you have to go into, unfortunately, smoke filled Monas. Other than their freebie popcorn, neither Monas nor Lisa's have any food service. The one redeeming thing about Lisa's is that it's great for you if you've brought a pet. And I might add that the owner is a great pet fan and does a lot for the betterment of animals inclusive of generous contributions and fund raisers. As Lisa's Backyard has been a popular gathering spot and local watering hole since 1997, you got to say it certainly has something going for it,

I loved this hidden gem! Monas has been a staple in Fort Lauderdale for years and I can't believe I am just finding out. This is a true dive bar. They have a outdoor patio in addition to the indoor park. The drinks are stiff and reasonable! The clientele is very friendly and I have never felt more welcome in a bar. If your a fan of a good dive like me I recommend checking them out!

Came to this watering hole on a Sunday afternoon for a couple of cocktails to cool down and chill after a stressful early afternoon. I totally forgot that smoking is allowed inside at FL bars so that was a Debbie Downer for me! We did manage to make our way to the patio of which no customers were out and it was starting to cool down. Bartender was a sweetheart and very cool and accomodating.

This is an awesome neighborhood gay bar. The bartenders are awesome and if you like dive bars like I do, this is the place for you. Smoking is allowed but it's really not that bad and it's so unlike the bars on Wilton manors. It's a total thumbs up for me!

Bartender is very rude ..... drinks had very little alcohol.. do not recommend this bar to anyone visiting

My friends and I came across Monas and at first we were a bit intimidated because we are just 3 younger ladies and there was only gentleman here at the time, but we are SO glad we went in. The bartender, Dean, along with the rest of the regulars at the bar welcomed us with open arms! The owner even chimed in through the cameras and bought the whole bar a free drink. We had awesome conversations and watched the Mississippi game. It's a great, safe environment with really neat decorations. Very friendly and happy place. Been here on numerous occasions. The bartenders are very friendly. One thing to know of you only use a credit card for purchases you can't add the tip Bring cash they deserve. This place is now special to me as I have met the man of my dreams here

Fun bar with a great vibe to it. The bartenders are friendly and the drink are cheap. They play the train game- when the train goes by if you guess the right number you get a free drink. Can't best it. They give out popcorn as a snack at the bar too. The parking lot is small which can be a pain, but it's worth a visit. Mona's has the charm that most bars in this area have. It's kind of like a gay friendly, 'Cheers'. And it definitely keeps people coming back. On a side note: they do great charity work around the holidays. Any local business that gives back to the community is alright by me.

Little dive bar off of Sunrise that was a lot of fun. Very chilled and the drinks were both strong and cheap. Really enjoyed myself.

Nice dive bar with cheap drinks and cool bartenders. More for the locals who everyone knows by name. Still if u want to shoot pool listen to way to much country music at times. This is a great place to get drunk on a budget.

Such a wonderful little local bar! I met a bunch of wonderful people! Dean the bartender was one of the best bartenders ever!!! Dean is on top of making sure you feel welcome and that your drink is always full!!!

Our trip to Fort Lauderdale started at Mona's where we met up with our fabulous friend Tommy/Tish, who was bartending. Upon pulling up to the vibrant building we knew we were in neighborhood bar heaven. There is nothing like a neighborhood bar! Mona's is lovely. The décor is eclectic mid-century kitsch. The walls are a collage of intriguing novelties of yesterday and today. Imagine, if you will, that a bar was plopped down in the middle of your favorite antique/collectibles co-op! The Koi painted into the bar top were a favorite of mine. The music runs the gamut. This is place of good conversation and where friends meet. The pool table was in full use while we were there. The drinks generous and definitely were much appreciated after a long flight. Future visits to Florida will always include a stop at Mona's.

Great bar. Super friendly staff! We had Jason serving us delicious bloody Mary's last Sunday and couldn't be happier. Great drinks, great prices and great atmosphere. If you're looking for an authentic dive bar, this is it. Definitely will be coming back.

I love this place for the fact that the pretentious twinks from The Drive do not venture down here. It's a comfortable bar with a nice parking lot. You have to be able to deal with the retro look and smell of a REAL gay bar ....yes, you can still smoke in here - ahh, the 80's! There's a New Orleans vibe going on here too. No attitude from the patrons OR bartenders. Josh is the nicest bartender I've experienced in Ft. Laud in a long time. The other spots are too busy slinging drinks to get to know their patrons. You may not hang out here all night, but it's a great place to start your evening, or pass the afternoon away. You're bound to meet a new friend here, or at least an interesting character!

This is the gay bar that time forgot. I have always thought of it as the elephant's burial ground for gay men in Fort Lauderdale and so I have avoided going into it for all the years I've been down here. On a lark and because we were nearby, I went yesterday with two friends. Gaudy. Funny. Charming. Divey. Quirky. Old school. Attitude-free. So unstylish it is now retro and in need of being protected from change. It is stuffed with junk - some of it stuffed! Its holiday decorations are never fully taken down so you get a festive mix of Halloween, Christmas and July 4th. It seems that Mona was a dog memorialized all over the walls. The bartender was attractive and friendly. My Martini came in a large Martini glass made of real glass. With a gold rim! Like from a tag sale! I am sure that others may say that everything and everyone in Mona's has seen better days, but I would disagree. This is the one bar in these parts that has personality and soul. Classic. Perfect. I will be back.

This place is pretty smokey and dirty! Losers run wild here!!!Roaches on the bar !!! Old stale popcorn !! The atmosphere is pretty bad! Needs to be bull dozed down! Cheap watered down drinks ! Mind you the only thing about Mona's is Cheap' and sleazy!! Skip this place!!!

Had a Great Time last night what a Great Staff. We had a Great Bartender "Ronnie". They were doing "STACK YOUR PARTNERS PACKAGE" a fun evening with alot of laughs. What a Great place to meet new people when they do these types of activities.

Went many times in April and May of 2017 with a gentleman I was trying to win over and I found the bar clean and the drinks good. Not sure what the twinks want in their glasses but this polar bear thinks the drinks were pretty tasty.

Ok look you don't walk into this bar expecting Village Pub. It's a neighborhood bar that allows smoking and casino machines and a juke box into which patrons might play music that makes you insane. But if you level your expectations you might have a good time. The bartender Billy is very nice and makes good drinks. There's a nice outdoor patio. Don't like the music? Drop a few bucks in the juke and play your own. The train comes by a couple times a night and it's pretty cool -- the whole bar plays the train game each time and somebody wins a free cocktail. That's what it is. Take it or leave it. I have fun most times I go.

Just a simple bar with simple drinks. Has a cool old school type vibe but nothing really more then that. Type of place to have a quick drink, catch up with friends, and leave...

Divey bar with a good vibe. I always have a decent drink and a good time here. It's not a fancy place but it is comfortable and the staff is friendly.

Great place for affordable drinks and good times with friends. Popcorn and chocolate pretzels are a delicious addition while hanging around at the bar. The bar is pet friendly, you might see a dog or two stationed with its owner at the bar. Wednesday night karaoke!!

From a Local perspective, Monas Cocktail Lounge is a local gay neighborhood bar with parking in the back and the main entrance in the rear. It has a true neighborhood feel as mostly hard working middle class gay clientele with an average age of 25 to 50 year olds supports it. The owner is very community orientated and as such, it is a pet friendly bar that hosts several events during the year for various gay charities. Inside the main bar is a truly funky décor to keep your eyes wandering all around and there is a pool table and jukebox for your enjoyment. Recently added is a patio bar with full liquor and is an open Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening. Located on Sunrise Blvd and the Rail Road Tracks, they have a "Train Game" every time the train goes by where you might be able to win your self a free cocktail. In addition they offer free snacks including pretzels and popcorn. They have great low cost drink prices during the day and although they do accept credit cards, there is a ten-dollar minimum and you cannot tip on the card, so be sure to bring some cash to tip your bartender. If you are not into the "dance and club" scene and want to meet and mix with local regular gay guys I suggest you check it out.

So...This is for the lesbian ladies....This used to be one of my favorite local pubs when it was previously owned..The new owner,what a disrespect.If you ever wanna feel accepted ladies,don't go here...I was in last night conversating on my own with two men,and because the Queen's across from me did not like what I had to say,god forbid I have an opinion ..I was literally segregated and then demanded to leave because I was intruding on their gay bar...Last time I checked aren't we all gay..Never have I felt more unaccepted.Its so sad how the gay man population is discriminating against lesbians..This is not the first time I have felt this way in certain bars..Wilton alone has certain bars that only cater to gay men....This is so absurd and sad...Shame on you Mona's and the new owners..Such a shame that you have to be so rude and discusting to the gay community..I hope more women see this and please don't bring your money to this shitty bar.!!
