Monastero di Cortona Hotel & Spa (Cortona, Tuscany) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"All of Cortona’s best hotels are located inside landmark buildings — palaces in town, country estates set amid vineyards — and the Monastero di Cortona Hotel & Spa is no exception. Indeed, this 15th-century monastery, with its gorgeous original frescoes, high vaulted ceilings, and breathtaking hilltop vantage point, may be the most impressive of them all. The imposing stone building was thoughtfully restored and transformed into a luxury boutique hotel in 2019, and it remains one of the most elegant lodgings in this corner of Tuscany." - Tablet Hotels

Just left this hotel and had an incredible experience. Very atmospheric property with vaulted ceilings, original frescoes and a spectacular pool area. All of the dining was five stars with thoughtful touches and exquisite service. Breakfasts fit for royalty. A three minute walk from the centre of Cortona which is a perfect microcosm of Tuscany with Etruscan heritage. I woke up feeling like an Italian princess in one the most comfortable beds I’ve ever slept in and had a dreamy prenatal massage. My one piece of advice is to suck it up and reserve the paid parking. The public parking is paid as well and a hassle. And be careful if your car is not super compact, it was an ordeal getting my Citroen C5 out of one of the hotel garages but the staff was very helpful.

We stayed at the Monastero in Oct of 2025 and it was simply lovely! From the lobby, to the room, to the breakfast, to the spa they were all wonderful! Special thanks to Chiara, Alice, and Francesca at the front desk, Ana and Marino at the restaurant, and Andrea the masseuse as they went over the top in excellence. The Monastero is a converted monastery but has kept the charm and elegance. Our room was stunning and lovely (thank you!). It is a bit of an adventure navigating the walled city to get there but wonderful once we did! The main area of Cortona is a short but hilly walk and there are a number of wonderful eateries nearby. Wonderful Stay and would highly recommend!

This is a top tier hotel! The staff is friendly, helpful and extremely professional. From the very beginning the experience was terrific, greeting us after a long day of travel with a refreshing beverage, escorting us to our rooms, explaining different services and dining options, and having our luggage delivered to our rooms. The restaurant and bar staff were very attentive and provided fabulous service every time! The food and beverages were unique and delicious. The spa services were very reasonably priced and my massage was a perfect respite on a day when we had no excursions planned. The rooms! So elegant and well appointed! Beds were plush and provided a good night’s sleep. The whole hotel is decorated with taste and class. This is one of my top favorite places now! I hope to come back to Italy to have another stay!

I absolutely loved this place! The staff is so incredibly helpful. I was taking the train to Cortona and missed my stop so had to go one beyond the hotel had the taxi driver come and get me so I didn't have to wait for a return train. And that was at the beginning of my stay! The rooms are so comfortable and mine had an incredible view of the sunset each night. The staff in the restaurant and bar are also wonderful. As a gluten-free diner, they always had accommodations for me at breakfast as well as the snacks at the bar. I was sad to leave and will look forward to returning.

Montastero di Cortona is a gorgeous place with impeccable staff. Rooms are spacious, well appointed and beautiful. Service is unmatched. The staff is attentive, kind and welcoming. This was our second visit in 3 years, and will not be the last. I wouldn't bother staying anywhere else in Cortona. I've stayed at the sister hotel in Rome about 10 years ago, which is equally spectacular. However, Monastero di Cortona is a magical place. The restaurants and bar are also wonderful.

A hotel I highly recommend, as well as dinner at the Gli Affreschi restaurant. I was very happy with choosing the Monastero di Cortona to celebrate my 10th wedding anniversary. The service was excellent throughout. The room was spacious, the bed comfortable, Bulgari amenities, and turndown service. They left us anniversary gifts, demonstrating their utmost care for the guest. It was an incredible experience to sleep in a place rich in history, which has been completely renovated, offering great comfort and good taste. Breakfast was excellent every morning, served in a beautiful indoor space and also in the outdoor patio with a special atmosphere. The pool area is very beautiful and has a beautiful view of the city from above. The spa in the ancient baths is a truly worthwhile experience. We had the privilege of dining at the Gli Affreschi restaurant and chose the tasting menu with wine pairing, and it was incredible, worthy of a Michelin star. The restaurant's atmosphere is very special, rich in history, and combined with the delicious food and excellent service, it made for a truly special evening! I recommend this restaurant to both guests and non-guests. It's worth traveling to Cortona if you're nearby to try this experience. Taziana's excellent service is a highlight. Everything is a 10/10. I plan to return whenever I'm in the area.

I loved Cortona, Italy, the views from the top of the mountain are breathtaking. And Monastero di Cortona is even better. I loved my room with the view across the entire valley, I saw birds flying high, my windows opened to fresh air and sunshine. The rooftop pool is wonderful and the service up there is great also. I wish I had stayed longer, I would have used the spa services. It is a very romantic couples type of hotel, and I was solo and I still enjoyed it.

We enjoyed their restaurant which I just happened to find through "The Fork". Massive mixed grilled meats and a beautiful dining experience hosted by lovely and very professional staff. It was a bit of a journey because Google Maps had us going through back allies which felt like we were climbing a mountain. I knew I should have stuck to the main road but figured Maps may have known something. Would be great if they could get their dining establishments added to Google Maps just for the extra assurance you are heading to the correct location.
