Great place for a welcoming stop for pilgrims doing the long treck to Santiago & tourists alike. Too bad some visitors/bikers showed no respect for others by not allowing all other travellers the chance to experience the generosity offered by the monastery of the fresh/cold water & wine fountain. Sad & embarrassing to see the lack of respect of some tourists @ such a peaceful sanctuary & museum.

Walked into monastery in late afternoon. Beautiful. Looked away from alter for a moment. When I look back, they had turned on the light over the alter. It was awash in a golden glow.

This is one of the saddest experiences in my life: visiting what used to be an impressive romanesque-renaissance monastery only to find a semi-abandoned building in a terrible state of disrepair. It seems reasonable that, as seems to be the case, there's some kind of renovation going on. However, the facade of the church under renovation looks so washed out that all one can only hope is that that's because the work is under way.

This was amazing to see inside, and the work that is being done to keep it. Such a beautiful Monastery. With so much history.
