Mondrian Park Avenue - Hotel Review | Condé Nast Traveler

"NYC’s most well-tread attractions are world hits for a reason, and certain trips mandate a visit to them. For such occasions, Mondrian Park Avenue is ideally set in Midtown East, walking distance from the Empire State Building, Times Square, Bryant Park, and Grand Central. Despite that in-the-thick-of-it location, there’s no sacrifice in quality, nor a notable tourist vibe, to be found. The avant-garde lobby lays on the drama and greets guests with exposed concrete, sprawling golden art, and weighty black stone benches. Head upstairs to find rooms that sport pillow-top mattresses, showers stocked with Ciel toiletries, and mini bars fueled with goods like Grey Goose and bottled classic cocktails. Come nightfall, the hotel’s rooftop bar draws guests and young area professionals to its sweeping skyline views."

Most of the front desk staff was competent and polite and tried to work with us on the issues. The terrace view was nice and the included drinks in the mini fridge was a nice extra. The shower layout was nice with the rainfall shower head. BUT that is where the positives end. We booked a balcony room 2-3 weeks before our trip. It was a few days before arrival we were notified that our room would be “upgraded” because all balcony rooms were under renovation. Upon arriving, front desk staff were nice and helpful but once we reached our new room without a balcony, it had no hot water. We called the front desk and they immediately switched us to another room with the same layout but that also didn’t have hot water. At this point, we had wasted over an hour, unpacking and re-packing and had to be moved to a third SMALLER room on a much lower floor. The staff acted like they were so surprised there was an issue with the hot water, yet some recent reviews before our stay mentioned the same issue. The third room did wind up having hot water but it also had a myriad of cosmetic damage from scuffed walls, cracked mirror behind the TV, old and worn furniture, dirty rug, broken and off the track bathroom sliding door and damaged curtains. Noise from outside was not an issue but we heard our door, almost like a knock, every time someone on the floor exited or entered their room, which was ridiculous and at late hours, a little off putting and scary. Staff entered our room without knocking once, and towels took ages to arrive in the evening. They gave us 50% off the 1st night of our two nights but fought with us on discounting the 2nd night, which we believed was fair considering all the issues we had, time wasted and to us, it seemed like the hotel was misrepresented on its Expedia listing for the money. We thoroughly don't recommend this hotel. It may have been better in the past according to some past reviews but the management now is not doing a good job to say the least.

Location is absolutely great. I like the artistic concept of the hotel. and the super friendly staff was one of their biggest highlights. Also worth mentioning is the complimentary water bottles and sodas.||The rooms were not as big as described when I made the booking. Still, they were comfortable. Breakfast has lots of room for improvement: add more fruits, reduce bread types and add cheese, eggs and other elements for a more balanced fare. The terrace, lovely but underused space. ||Overall there are some signs of wear and tear that could be easily remedied with a fresh coat of paint on the room doors and other minor fixes. ||Housekeeping staff must be checked as I feel they didn't always do their job properly by failing to properly replace all towels and leaving dirty glasses behind.||Lastly, an observation: while my stay was mostly satisfactory, something unforgivable did happen on the very last day: housekeeping staff left one of the rooms with the door ajar, meaning anyone could have pushed the door to make their way inside. While nothing happened, I feel a written apology is not enough to approach this oversight.

The only good thing about this hotel is the location. They claim to be 4 star, but this felt like a 2 or 3 star «hotel». Upon arrival, nobody helped us with the bags to the 11th floor and the room didnt have soap or shampoo and the sink was clogged. We had to notify the staff 5 times before they fixed the sink and 3 times before they brought us soap so we could shower after travelling for 10 hours. Everytime We let Them know about any problem they Said they Would send someone right away, but no One came. Same thing with the TV in our room that did not Work and we let Them know at least 2 times every day of our Stay, and they never managed to fix it before we left. On the fourth night of our stay we were locked out of our room at 10 pm when were in a hurry. They tried to fix our key cards twice but then they suddenly claimed the room was not paid and we could not access until we had made a new payment. This whole scene was a nightmare and the staff were extremely rude to us which was really uncomfortable. We had submitted a valid credit card a month prior to the stay so this was the hotels fault for not having any Control of the or bookings and not ours. Also the breakfast was terrible; only sweets, yoghurt and bananas. We Only had it once during our stay. I would never recommend anyone to stay there unless they want to be annoyed everyday.

We booked when the hotel was under Mondrian brand. What a surprise when we arrived……. Most of the furnitures and decoration that are on the pictures are GONE…… Room was comfy but still didn’t feel that luxurious feeling we were sold on pictures. Location is really good and that is probably the best point here. Breakfast was a huge disappointment… barely space to seat for all guests, cups, cutlery, glasses are plastic.. the choices are very limited. No a la carte, no bar, no restaurant. This was maybe our biggest disappointment. We booked this hotel for 1 week for our honeymoon and we were quite disappointed considering the money we paid. Don’t be fooled by the pictures. The marketing intern should get a raise!

I came here for a business trip. I booked when I thought this was the Mondrian and was very surprised to see it had been rebranded or purchased by another hotel group? I was expecting a luxury experience and what I got was very different. The room was tiny (smaller than it looks in the pictures). The door, walls, and baseboards were really banged up. The room was cleanish - couldn't definitely see lint and dust still left on the surfaces. My shower barely got hot and it was out of shampoo. No toiletries in the bathroom. Bed and pillows were super uncomfortable. I didn't use the breakfast or any other facilities. Overall, the hotel was fine for a quick trip but not what I initially expected. It was pretty quiet and solid location. I don't know if I'd stay here again given the price vs quality.

Hotel is in a great location. The hotel is very attractive. The rooms are lovely, well designed and bright. Everyone is friendly and helpful. Jason especially. The continental breakfast is very generous and served on the rooftop terrace which has an indoor and outdoor area. Like the 12:00 checkout.

I stay here monthly and an always happy about room cleanliness and the staff, especially Jason who always remembers me with a warm welcome back. Nice to see the terrace bfast open. No eggs anymore though.|Beds and pillows are very comfortable and soda and water available in room fridge and are refilled on request.

Booked 2 nights for my anniversary, was over $1200 for a studio with balcony. I was quoted $884 To valet you vehicle it's a additional $85 per day(not advertised) the bld itsself is dated and on need maintenance, (wallpaper pealing, carpets dirt/frayed) the room was tiny as well as the balcony. No good views. They have a picture of the empire state bld, haha that was taken from the roof or somewhere else. The bed was extremely hard, the room was noisy (didn't sleep )The bathroom has a peeling ceiling and mold around the window and bathroom door the drapes was diry. No amenities, just a stupid hairdryer and mini fridge. The continental breakfast was disgusting, a bunch of stale breads, muffins and pancakes and the staff are not helpful. This place seriously misrepresented themselves I seriously feel ripped off and it ruined my anniversary STAY AWAY.

Yelp
We were here for fork and film, so I can't really critique anything except that specific experience. The event was held in their nightclub downstairs. The room was great. The event was well organized. The food and drinks were really good and well thought out. We were there to see frozen. You were only given one alcoholic drink per person so for the price ($189pp) we wouldn't do it a second time but I'm glad we did get to experience at least once.

Yelp
Okay at first I was skeptical. I have to say my room was clean , the breakfast was good and the customer service was good. I'm reading about the bad reviews and it does suck. Bed bugs not to.my knowledge. The only thing I didn't do was go to the bar on the highest floor, because there was a stranger there sitting there in the far back corner and it was dark. However if you can get up there before sunrise great photos. I came In September in 2023 And booked directly with the Hotel website. 10min walk to the subway 19min walk to the Grand Central Market And all I. Between is just 30min or less 4 Bars near the corners and not to mention a small mom n pops Coffee shop just right across

Yelp
I am unable to review the hotel as I came here to attend Fork n' Film. But upon entry the front desk was friendly. As for the event it was different and I'd do it again! This cinematic world meeting culinary artistry is fun for a date, solo, or group. I'd say keep in mind of a movie that will give you all the eats. I watched, 'Alice in Wonderland' and I loved the way everything turned out. The price point isn't bad as you are given food & drinks. I'm keeping my eye out for a few good ones like, 'Cloudy with a Chance of Meatball' 'Soul Food' & 'Ratatouille'

Yelp
5 STARS for hotel personnel ! Each person from the desk clerks to the housekeeping were great! They were pleasant and very helpful. The issue was the condition of the hotel at over $500 a night during the holiday week. See some photos below. We purchased a studio suite . Upon exiting the elevator, I could see the carpet was ripped throughout the halls. When we entered the suite and I turned on the light I saw the nasty carpet in the living room area. See photo below. This was not just a stain from the previous guest, this must have been here for a very long time. All over the living room carpet there were filthy stains. What I cannot understand, is how the hotel allowed this carpet to remain. Baffles the mind. The lighting was also so poor it always seemed like I was in a Speakeasy bar instead of my hotel room. Note the curtains - top and bottom. Half of the curtains were off their hooks and I could not open or close them. One cannot tell me that a housekeeper did not notice this prior. Why if this was reported did they not fix and close off this room until they could clean it properly or replace carpet. The positive : The bedroom and bathroom was very nice - new, modern, clean and appointed well. It was two different stories btw that and the living room. We arrived so late and decided to stay in room for the evening. The next morning I complained downstairs to the manager and she quickly offered for us to change rooms. That was the right thing to do and we appreciated it, but how can you sell a room that looked like a frat party had taken place earlier. I feel badly for the personnel because this is there place of employment and they all were great. But the hotel is a mess.

Yelp
Upon arrival the room was dirty, including the bathroom. My second room, the sheets had someone's BLOOD on them! The bathroom door handle fell off in my hand, thankfully I was not trapped in there. The fluorescent bulb flashed and when asked to have it changed, they didn't. Coming into the hotel after 1am, the doors were all open and no one responded to us. Over all, the bed was very comfortable, the room was very quiet, I just wish this property was better maintained.... Seriously blood on the sheets!

Yelp
We were recently in NY beginning of December and staying at this hotel. The first day we were there we noticed that we didn't have hot water. So we called front desk to let them know, we advised them we had dinner reservations and needed to shower and get ready to make it. They sent a maintenance guy maybe an hour after we called he came to check it out and said there is nothing they can do. We told them then we need to change our room because we can't be showering with no hot water. The maintenance guy came back 15 mins later letting us know there is no other room available. We had to go down and talk to a manager because this was ridiculous and unacceptable. After another hour of back and forth they magically found an available room. We had to pack up our stuff and move to an other room. By this time we had no time to get ready and make it to our reservation which we ended up getting charged for cancelling reservations. The manager advised he would try to make it up to us and be able to not charge us for the inconvenience they caused! We've been back from our trip for 3 weeks now and they have done nothing! Been giving us the run around and won't admit the issues the hotel had! The whole staff is rude and unprofessional and clearly not honest! I don't recommend staying here

Yelp
I haven't even gotten there yet but 1 thing I can tell you -- is their customer service is HORRIBLE. AND I spoke to management. I'm flying in from out of town and luckily I called in today but the management team is unprofessional and RUDE. I'll be looking to stay somewhere else for my second night. I'm already having a bad feeling about this place. I'll update after tonight...

Yelp
I know it's been a few weeks since we were there (12/17/23 - 12/22/23) but with the holidays and getting back into the swing of things this feedback was delayed. It was our first visit to NYC and to begin with prior to our arrival one of the managers was so kind as to email us clear step by step instructions on how to get there using the rail system while saving us a ton of money. So even before we left they were already helping us out. We travel from LAX and were exhausted during our early morning arrival. The staff as expected held our luggage while our room was prepared for 3 pm check-in and guided us to the best walking routes to the Empire State building tour. We asked for a courtesy room for a quick shower but none were available although they did offer free entry to the sports club across the street they have an alliance with if we wanted to freshen up. They also offered their terrace lobby where we were able to enjoy our city bought breakfast and take a quick nap. We tried to get early check in and they were accommodating with a special needs room. Unfortunately we were not happy with this room but Soila, the front desk attendant was quickly able to get us a much better accommodations the very next morning. We loved the remainder of our stay there. Every day Soila was able to help us out with directions to get around the city. She was so nice and a complete doll in assuring our comfort and providing us with economical transportation resources via an app to get around the city. On our last day she even gave us clear and detailed directions from the hotel to the subway and train system all the way to JFK. She is a winner with the Gomez family.

Yelp
Love this hotel for so many reasons... location, the rooms, the decor ... the no room service of late has really killed it tho and the "restaurant" is a burger joint.

Yelp
I stayed at the Mondrian for 1 week (10/21-28/2023) and thought it was okay. I booked through Booking.com back in June and paid ~$2k for a room with a balcony. About a month ahead of my stay, I emailed requesting the highest possible type of room and was told they would make a note. Upon check in, I was given room 1604, with the 16th floor being the lowest floor with balcony rooms. Of course anything higher was already booked, hmm. The biggest pro of this hotel is the location. It feels really safe, honestly, and I say that as a single female traveler. The segment of Park Avenue South the hotel is located on is moderately trafficked during the day and until about 11 PM on any given night, but the crowd moves with purpose, not a lot of loitering. I felt comfortable going a block over at night to Walgreens and even grabbing pizza around 1 AM. Aside from safety of location, there is proximity. You are 7 minutes walking from the Empire State Building as well as about 10 minutes from the Flat Iron Building. There's also lots of eateries, grocery stores, and lots of other conveniences. The room itself was fine. The decor was okay but could use a refresh--the white heavy curtains and sheers were both stained on the bottom as if an animal had peed on them. The carpeting will turn your soles black if you spend too much time on it, too. But I thought the king bed and pillows were comfortable. I was impressed with the size of the bathroom! You don't usually get such a large bathroom in any major city--modern double sinks with a surface for all your makeup and hot tools. I really appreciated that. My shower was missing the shampoo/conditioner/body wash for 3 days before suddenly it appeared installed--I went to go buy all of this in the meantime, which was annoying. The shower door didn't have a seal and the hotel's way of compensating for this was to place a rolled towel to insinuate you use it as a stopper? It just resulted in a soppy towel. Speaking of doors, the bathroom door is a slider without a lock and with a gap, so either travel solo or be in that relationship stage where you are comfortable hearing everything LOL The balcony view was of the neighboring buildings, but you do see sky. On the 16th floor, you're immediately above the terrace, so you don't get a sense that you're high up and it's also distracting and not very private if you want to sit out. I found the front desk pretty helpful. Anytime I needed more towels or water, they were pleasant and responsive. Continental breakfast is offered daily--pastries, toast, fruit, yogurt. The end time is 10 AM but they were pretty forgiving and really generous if you came a bit after that. Heads up, if you want late checkout, you need to ask the day of AND pay $50 an hour! Overall, it was an okay stay, but I think I would stay elsewhere in the future.

Emrah Y.

Yelp
Such a waste of money. I paid 4000$ for 6 days of stay. It is like a youth hostel. Nobody vacuum the rooms unless you specifically ask for it. Nobody is checking the minibar unless you ask for it. Nobody provides a moisturizer or a soap bar unless you ask for it. Shame on them. Mondrian used to represent a quality in hospitality. Such a disappointment Who runs this place should I complain to Accor Hotels? Or Martin Solano? Or Eyal Ofer?
google avatar

Brooke R.

Yelp
Absolutely not. Do not stay here. They encourage staff to look in the safe and go through your stuff.

Yelp
Shit hotel is shit. Front desk is one of the worst customer experience in new York and that's saying something. They should all be fired
google avatar

Arista W.

Yelp
The room was so small but the bathroom was like another room. I enjoyed the fact that there is a balcony. There were no wash clothes in the room. The terrace and bar attached are only open certain days and hours. No ice machines but the staff will bring you ice. I called ahead to check in early and they advised it could be done with a $40 fee. I get there and my room wasn't ready until 3pm. So make a long story short I had to go store my fully packed car else where because the valet was no where to be found. They also hold a $200 deposit on your card which is insane. Most places only want $50-100. They also have a coffee bar in the corner by the elevators in the dark. Not sure how folks could even see.

Jocelyn B.

Yelp
Bed bugs. Dishonest. Hidden fees. Awful experience. I rarely post negative reviews but this was a horrible experience. They moved me to a different room but then basically told me there were no bugs, and would not compensate me in anyway. Managers always told me they had to check with their supervisor but no supervisor ever would speak to me. Do yourself a favor, do not stay here!
google avatar

Amber C.

Yelp
This hotel hires unprofessional employees who will enter your room without any consent. If it wasn't for things being moved around I wouldn't have noticed.

Yelp
I stayed here for a couple nights for work as well as got to enjoy the rooftop terrace for a work event. First time ever staying at a Mondrian labeled hotel. The front desk was super super kind and gracious and accommodating. In fact they let me check into a room at 8 AM. Unfortunately their restaurant is closed but they do give you vouchers to grab a breakfast or lunch on the same block at blank slate. I am not sure how long this hotel has been here however the room I received does show a lot of signs of wear and tear that could be touched up from the baseboards to the wallpaper to the bathroom tiling. Rooms are very small as expected but very utilitarian and worked out just fine for the business trip. I love how the bathroom has bathroom products that are real sized and not travel or mini sized. I would definitely stay at this hotel again when it back in the city for work and or another Mondrian hotel in the other cities.

Yelp
I stayed at the Mondrian for my birthday this year, I've spent a few of my birthdays here. I really like the hotel. It is clean and the employees are nice. The hotel is in a good location with a lot nearby. When I was checking in, the employee at the front desk saw it was my birthday on my ID and was kind enough to upgrade my room (because there was availability to do so) without extra charge. The complimentary breakfast was very good. Not too much variety but everything seemed fresh and was good quality food. I enjoyed it after a night of drinking. I will continue coming here in the future.

Yelp
The sad excuse for a manager "LEE" is a terrible person to deal with!!!!!!!!! This hotel is past its prime! If you deal with Lee the manager good luck! Don't stay here if you are expecting a luxury experience- their website is deceiving so is the customer service. Spend your hard earned cash SOME WHERE ELSE!!!!

Yelp
Extremely discourteous employees who are unwilling to resolve issues they created. They exhibit a poor attitude, regardless of how much you spend here. Would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Yelp
Booked a room. Flew into New York late, get to hotel, and am turned away in the middle of the night because they "made a mistake with their inventory", and didn't actually have the room that I had already paid for. I am now stuck with nowhere to go.

extremely rude employees. they are not willing to work out a solution to a situation they made. have an attitude and it doesn't matter how much you spend here

Yelp
Yesterday morning I checked out of the Mondrian Park Avenue. I had noticed some itchy bumps on my arms and legs that arose during my stay - some kind of bites. On the plane ride home, I realized it might be bedbugs. (I'm attaching a couple of pictures; you decide if they are or aren't that.) I contacted the hotel to let them know they should check Room 1601 for bedbugs and, if they found any, to inquire about a partial refund as reasonable compensation (and for letting them know about the potential problem). I was told no partial refund was available because I had not "complained" during my stay! Pretty frustrating, given that I didn't realize the possible problem existed until after I had checked out, and very disappointing. On the plus side, it was nice to have a room with a balcony, and the housekeeping staff was very friendly. Location is convenient to most of midtown and to the subway. A few other minor detriments (besides the possible bedbugs): The room did not have body lotion, only shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel. The restaurant was closed during my stay, and there are no ice machines on the floors. You have to call down and have ice brought up each time.

Anthony S.

Yelp
Employees will enter your room without your permission & go through your safe. Unprofessional!!!

Yelp
Rachel at the front desk was accommodating every step of the way during our OCT 2022 stay, there were a few hiccups such as our assigned room not being properly cleaned upon arrival but was assigned a new room and given complimentary wine during our stay. Although their restaurant was undergoing renovations, they partnered with a restaurant around the corner in which we received vouchers to go towards the cost of our meal. I loved that they give access to a gym nearby with temporary gym membership. Easy access to train, great break from the busier areas of the city, access to good restaurants and of course everything is walkable. We enjoyed our stay and our view from the balcony. We've decided to be regulars until our move. Can't wait for our various stays this upcoming year.

Yelp
Just terrible. I do not usually review hotels even if they're amazing but I feel like I have to warn people. Wish I read the reviews on Yelp before staying here. This is not a 4 star hotel. There is no doorman and elevator does not have secure access so anyone could've came in. If you are planning to share a bed with someone be ready to get cozy because the beds are full size not queens. I'm not sure if this is typical in NYC given hotels are usually smaller here, but this was honestly the least of our problems. At first glance, the room is nice but once you settle in you realize everything is falling apart. The bathroom door handle, the vanity counter, the wallpaper, the bed frame. Our landline phone was also not working, we had to go down to the front desk to request extra items which they did not send up. They take a $200 security deposit so be sure to take note of everything broken in the room and let them know immediately bc there probably will be something, and this will prevent them from putting the blame on you. Housekeeping also barged into our room our first morning there despite the do not disturb sign on our door. Thankfully we were only here to sleep and get ready for the day. And at least we didn't get robbed. This location is a disgrace to the Mondrian hotel brand. Big thank you to the manager for trying to make things right but honestly there are fundamental problems in this hotel that are out of her control and need to be addressed by upper management.

Yelp
I am absolutely and completely confused about why people don't love this hotel. I am a certified world traveler, I have been everywhere and stayed in thousands of hotels and I love this place. It's beautiful and even though the rooms are New York City size which is to say small, They feel bigger than any other room I've ever stayed at in the city. They are perfectly decorated, the shower is large and gorgeous and has two shower heads (rain + regular). The air conditioner works amazingly and gets so cold. Employees are completely happy to be of service. I needed ice, I got it immediately, I needed a blanket, got it immediately. It's very quiet and soothing. I had a nice view, it wasn't perfect, but it was perfectly decent. I love this place, this probably gets the highest score of most any hotel I've stayed at in New York City. I would come back here again and again. *edited to add that the terrace on the 15th floor is outstanding! The view! And the complimentary continental breakfast is far better than any continental breakfast I've ever had. You have to try it, amazing!

Yelp
Worst customer service i have experienced at a hotel. I bought a room for my friend, but they had to leave early. I was told I was still paying for the room even though my friend had checked out early. I tried to get a key to the room so my other friend could sleep in that room. When asked for the key to the room I was told I couldn't get it because my other friend had already checked out. May I remind you that I am still paying for the room. So in the end I was paying for a room that I could no longer access. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone and I will never purchase a room here again.

Yelp
Beware a friend stayed here and their safe was opened while they were away without their consent by the engineer manager!

Yelp
Unprofessional staff. Don't book here unless you want them going through your stuff when you are not in the room. They are thief's!!!!!!!

Yelp
I have hawk eyes and nothing was out of place in my room. It was spotless. I got a premier king and I had a lot of room. There is great counter space in the bathroom and bedroom. The closet was perfect. Nothing was old or worn in. Shower was lovely. Windows all open easily and the shades block out all the light perfectly. Everything was on point. The mini fridge fit all my food perfectly and the hotel is walking distance to Whole Foods and literally anything else you may want or need from drugstores to Starbucks. The breakfast voucher was fantastic! Someone complained in a review about the food not being at the hotel but the barely one block walk to a cute cafe is totally worth it. You don't even have to get breakfast- you can get coffee, matcha, organic coconut water, or even wine. The hotel supplies coffee and organic tea for free in the lobby every morning. The staff were really nice to me. Checkin and checkout was easy. Everything was easy. This is the only hotel I'll stay in from now on in NYC. Rachel Sims is a great employee if ever you need anything.

Yelp
This Hotel is very unprofessional. They will go through your belonging without consent. Making an individual feel unsafe. Will not recommend at all.

Yelp
I called for housekeeping at 10am and let them know I needed it immediately. I called back an hour later to check on the status and they made me wait and never came back to the phone. I came back 2 hours later to it not being cleaned. I called the front desk to let them know I was disappointed and someone hung up on me mid sentence. I asked to speak to a manager and I have been on hold for 30 minutes now. (probably will not get that manager.) Their "free breakfast" is fried up old bagels and muffins and cereal. Not a single hot item unless you count the bitter coffee. The worst customer service I've ever had experienced in my life. Oh they picked up the phone. The manager is the person who hung up on me mid sentence. Fantastic!

Yelp
WORST HOTEL! Really bad hotel, they go threw your stuff even when its in the safe thats ridiculous. And the one who went threw it, it was the "manager Engineer"

Yelp
Stayed here for a few nights in November since my fiancé was staying here for work. Pros: -Huge shower with two different shower heads/pressure -Great location - you can catch the 6 train from 28th or 33rd Cons: -They don't change your sheets. You have to ask. I get the whole conserving water thing but even when we asked, they didn't change it -Pillows are a bit high Overall, great stay - nothing amazing, but nothing bad.

Yelp
Didn't even dawn on me to check Yelp for the reviews (I checked TripAdvisor) and wouldn't have been duped. Was going to stay at a higher end hotel, but saw the Mondrian as I was searching close to my son's place and envisioned the Mondrian in Miami & trusted the brand. Do not be fooled. Gives me the vibes that it had been a previous brand purchased by Mondrian. It's not nice (feels low rent), had no valet/doorman, one of the two elevators weren't working, and although I reserved a king room I was given two queens as the entire hotel was sold out. Isn't that what a reservation is for? To hold rooms? And to add insult to injury, my room had no A/C. They didn't have another room to switch me to, so they sent the engineer up. He said once the screen turns red it's done but he would try to reset and try to find another room to move me to. Never heard a word - but could have been because the room phone was broken and didn't hold a charge. I called down on my cell that they didn't know about the room switch but would try to call me back. Luckily the A/C did come on, and thank God because the front desk called and said they have a room that was "out of service" but now available. NO THANK YOU. Exhausting experience and won't be back. Too many good hotels in NY.

Yelp
One more edit JUSTIN THE BELLMAN IS AMAZING!! had to atleast give credit to the one person that helped me out fr. EDIT: I took away the second star because when 3:30 came around nobody called me. I waited 30 minutes and called upfront just for them to ask me if I've even spoken to anybody about this. Wow this place is straight up trash. literally . Honestly, don't stay here. Look at all of these horrible reviews because I didn't and now I'm stuck here. Im going to give two stars for the effort the manager put in. As soon as I got in last night at 2 o'clock in the morning They informed me they couldn't find my reservation due to it being canceled. Apparently if the card doesn't have the exact amount that they're gonna charge (how would you know that including the taxes and extra fees?) your reservation is canceled. What's crazy is my reservation has been booked for three months. Anyways, 40 minutes later they're able to get me into the room that I originally booked. There is like water damage in the bathroom and the AC was broken. During the night I didn't really notice the AC issue considering I had the window open. In the morning when I called and ask them to please come check it out. Once they said they would send an engineer, I also stated I would be leaving to an important job in about 30 minutes. someone will be right up! Great! Well, no one ever came. So I called back downstairs and they told me that he came and then left because I had a do not disturb sign on my door and then continued to argue with me on whether or not that was right for him to just completely ignore the fact that I had JUST called and asked him to come! Once he came into the room I had the person who was expecting me at my job across town call me, and while I was explaining the situation the "engineer" began to pipe up and try to talk over me to try and prove he was right and left because of the do not disturb sign when this person who I'm speaking to literally doesn't even care. They are wondering where tf I'm at for my job. Lol. Once he left, I finally got onto the phone with a manager to give my experience and ask if I could please have a refund on the entire first night considering everything went wrong and I did not enjoy myself. She said the most they can do for me is give me 50% off aswell as move rooms when one becomes available (around 3:30)which I appreciate but I just don't think that is enough nor do I find this place to be worth the price. (2k for 6 nights) This hotel is worth it if you just need a quick place to stay in Manhattan, not for SIX NIGHTS like I'm now stuck with.

Yelp
Truly a huge disappointment from arrival to departure. No towels and no hair conditioner were the small issues... But, the worst part was NO HEAT! Yes, you read correctly. We had to sleep in a room in the middle of winter (December) with no heat. We asked the engineer to come a check at about 5:30pm just as we were leaving for the evening. At 10:30, when we returned, nothing had been done. We made an additional request and after 4 attempts, they could not repair the unit. We were then told there were no available rooms for us to switch to and instead they brought us a duvet!!!! We slept as we shivered in a 60F room. Upon checkout the following morning, we asked if they really thought we should be paying full price for the room. They reduced it by a whopping $80 and showed no remorse. We paid but will NEVER return. I strongly urge anyone thinking of booking the NY Mondrian on Park Avenue to please book elsewhere!!!!

Yelp
I would give no star if it would be possible. Absolutely the worst hotel I ever stayed in and I travel for business. After 3 days of broken air conditioning I moved hotels at 4AM in the morning before ab important business day because the temperature was over 80 degrees and they send an engineer already 3 times. They were even rude about my complaint and me checking out. Please whatever you do don't stay at this hotel you will regret you stay and will be miserable

Yelp
This hotel STOLE a bag of jewelry I had in a safe. I forgot to take a bag of jewelry out of the safe in my room when I checked out because I was in a huge rush. I later called to retrieve it and they claimed they do not have it and no one ever called for the safe to be opened after me. They made me feel like I was crazy and the staff was pretty indifferent and kept giving me mixed information on protocols at the hotel. I had to keep calling for updates and kept getting the run around. I had to file a police report and am yet to get any update. This on top of the terrible housekeeping. I walked into my room to a bunch of hair all over the floor in my bathroom when I checked in. Their blankets are old and the down inside is clumpy. When I would ask for better blankets, housekeeping would bring me the bare blankets without covers or sheets and expect me to make the blanket myself. I would also ask for things and they would never come back with them. I still have not gotten my jewelry back and it seemed to have mysteriously "disappeared". Do not stay here. No one cares about you or your belongings and you don't get a straight answer on anything.

Yelp
Called before arrival to request an early check-in prior to 3pm. Was told that they could not guarantee anything. That's fair and understood. But they have only two chairs in their lobby with numerous people waiting like myself and no other sitting area in the hotel for people to wait for their rooms to be ready? That's absurd! This is not a cheap hotel. What could these people be thinking? Not a nice way to treat incoming guests. Update: Was offered the opportunity to check in now but was told it would be an additional $50 per night for this. Are these people in the extortion business? I've stayed here before but this will be the last time I do so!

Yelp
The Mondrian was ideally located and provided comfortable sleep space for the fun part of my Manhattan stay (see other review re less nice hotel for the work part of the stay). *** The Room *** The room, overlooking Park Avenue, had a very comfortable queen-sized bed. It also featured interesting paintings atop the TV enclosure. Lest you be inclined to take home one of Piet Mondrian's pieces (or a reasonable replica thereof), the canvas frames were chained together and to the enclosure. The bathroom featured regular plus rain showerheads, and if you consider switching heads while showering, you will be hit with a deluge of NY wintertime-temperature water until everything equilibrates. Good morning! There were a couple disturbing stains down the baseboard by the bed, but otherwise, the room was clean and cozy, including everything you'd ever need except a desk. *** The Grounds *** Everything was modern-looking. I'm sure the 15th floor terrace is a bigger hit in the summer. The club in the basement wasn't a very popular choice for anyone. *** The Staff *** Very gracious and soft-spoken. Nice bunch. *** Your Fellow Mondrians *** Most guests were 40+, many sounded British, and none appeared to want to partake in any of the activities suggested in the elevator artwork. Exceptionally quiet bunch, including the one kid I saw. *** The Neighborhood *** The 4/5/6 subway is two blocks away and can get you downtown or to the Upper East Side quickly. Grand Central is about 1/2 mile away. Restaurant Cleo was OK; other places to be mentioned in other reviews were very, very good. It's an ideal location.

Yelp
The Mondrian Park Avenue does not live up to expectation. I am quite sure we won't recommend it to anybody. 1st day they did not even clean our room, we complained, with a very minimum excuse: "We apologize, but our service hour is finished for the day!" 2nd day, we asked them to clean the room, they did it but again, sheets were not renewed, towels were not replenished, but ok, we just took it in. In our last day, we came back to the room around 5PM, nothing was cleaned up, the bed was all messy, the bathroom was not cleaned up. Horrible job on their housekeeping service. The front desk staff are generally helpful and courteous I mus say.

Yelp
I will use the one star to reflect the great location, comfortable bed and Hosam from the front desk, who proved to be the only competent and capable employee from amongst all the employees at this hotel. The teams of people that manage and man the hotel and reception can best be described as lazy, incompetent, and full of attitude. This resulted in absolutely everything required of them being inaccurately executed. But the worst of all was HOUSEKEEPING. This hotel can be exceptionally proud of the fact that the best word to describe their housekeeping are INCOMPLETE AND FILTHY! My question was do the managers or Housekeeping managers ever review a room after it was supposedly clean. In 9 days, they never replaced soap, shampoo, toilet paper. (I had to run to a drug store to buy after the "inspiring and dynamic" team at the front desk failed to take my request for toilet paper seriously. But worse than that, was they never cleaned the bathroom floor, shower, basin, or toilet. But it only gets better... On my second last night, after not coming at all to clean my room, we moved to a suite with a soaking wet carpet, an equally filthy bathroom and best of all, a coffee machine with no coffee, cream, sugar, or anything else. So, who does one blame? The staff, lazy, full of attitude and lacking in initiative? The poor managers? Or the owners of the Mondrian who are more than likely have the best laugh of all at unfortunate consumers who make the mistake and venture into their hotel.

Yelp
So disappointing. #1 the gym they advertise online--they no longer have a membership with and have no explanation of what they are doing as a replacement or any apology for advertising it. Front desk girl, "I don't manage our website" when I asked her why it is on the website but not available. Note, many people make reservations based on such amenities---DO better! Update your site or give another option. #2 my room was never cleaned until I went and asked for it to be. No reason why. I even saw cleaners cleaning other rooms. Update: They cleaned the room and left NO towels. Zero. I realized after washing my face. Called the front desk. Very little reaction or care. #3 room is decent, but no wash cloths, no robes, no lotion, tiny mixed match bath soap and shampoo. #4 I wanted to sit somewhere to do work....there are no public areas to sit. Unless you want to go to the bar. I was fine with that, pressed the button and it would not work. I asked the front desk "They open at 3 or 4." "It's 3:22..." "Oh, they must be still working on getting ready." I went back in the elevator and pushed the button around 3:30 and then I could go up. It's a bar, it either opens at a certain time or another time. #5 The restaurant is closed. I got in at 11:00pm and no food options at all. They suggested Uber Eats. All in all, a total let down. There is potential, but it seems to be falling apart and pretty bare bones. Are they having money troubles?

Yelp
Very disappointing. Wouldn't go back. Ambiance: Typical shiny-chic approach catering to upscale weekenders. Very small room with balcony and large bathroom. Very clean and beds were comfortable. Service: Okay but they missed a few details at check-in: It was Christmas weekend and only at check-in were we told that the dining facilities would be closed both days of our stay. They provided us with $40 worth of "complimentary" vouchers by way of apology for the inconvenience - to a cafe nearby only open one of the days. But worse, we were billed $66 for them at the end of our stay (until we complained). Rooms: It was a bitterly cold weekend and the rooms couldn't be heated enough. Many people complained of this. Worse, the shower ran only warm. My sister (in another room) had the same problem. Simply no hot water. Additionally, both our showers leaked on the floors (which, I'll give them credit for, were heated), and the soap dispenser was empty. The TV selection was mediocre, but the movies were being charged at $22 a pop. In all, it was a real downer to our Christmas in NY. I wouldn't go back even if the room were free.

Yelp
The customer service here was really bad. When we arrived the front desk person said our room would not be ready for a few hours so we waited in the top floor lounge. We finally got a notice that the room was ready - we got our keys and headed to the room. We walked in to a room that was filled with someone else's bags and clothes - imagine how awkward if those people were in there when we walked in! We told the front desk and she argued and said no one was in that room (so we're making it up?), but finally got routed to a different room which was extremely small and not what we booked. Finally a different front desk rep set us up in the same type of room we booked. Once in there, an employee walked in while we were in the room and said we weren't supposed to be in the room! This place was a hot mess. I would highly suggest staying elsewhere for the price. The vouchers to get breakfast at Blank Check were clutch though, we enjoyed the food there.

Yelp
Not enjoyable. no coffee in rooms, no washcloths, no food available till evening time, no iron or ironing board. No doorman. Tiny rooms, horrible cramped bathroom with sliding door. Toilet is weird and hardly had water in it. Funny they show A video of all their hotels in all the locations around the world and when they get to the New York City location they flash a picture of the lobby counter. Which goes to show you this hotel really has zero in the amenities department.
