Monica's Mex-Tex Cantina

I don't know how she does it, but year after year Monica always welcomes us like we are best friends, and makes us feel like we are family and VIPs. New Years Eve was no exception - Monica geeted every guest personally, and her three course menu complete with bubbles was the best deal in town. It was hard to choose, but I started off with the Poblano Corn Soup, and my guest tried the Spinach Salad with Root Vegetables. We both went with the vegetarian options, and were thrilled with both. Perfectly seasoned, and I would be happy to dine on both of them every day. The second course I chose the Shrimp Diablo Risotto. I've ordered this in the past, and even though I don't like seafood I LOVE this dish! Lots of heat, the shrimp were cooked perfectly, and a large enough portion that I'll be enjoying it tomorrow as well. And did I forget the cocktails? I have tried some of the speciality ones, but you just can't go wrong with the Margarita. Top shelf,fun garnish, and the perfect size. Third course was of course my favorite, but it was really hard to choose. Since I have been working on Dulce de Leche recipes I passed on that, but the Warm Mexican Bread Pudding was something we'll be remembering this decade for. Hot, spicy, and memorable. As always, Monica made us feel happy, and appreciated. I can't think of a better way to end this year.

Decided to come here because the girlfriend was craving tex mex after an Andrew Yang rally and I got to say, I was surprised! I was just expecting another tex mex spot that just served mediocre tacos and enchiladas, but this place was something extraordinary. The chicken enchiladas with poblanos sauce was delicious and I wanted more, unfortunately that was my girlfriends plate and she only allowed me a bite. The tacos were different than what I'm accustom to. They had a kick to them at the end like they marinated the chicken in lemon juice or something, but they were good! I'd definitely recommend this place and I hope to come back soon when I get some time!

Friendly and gracious staff. The Pollo Con Mole was lovely and the fried plantain were wonderful. A nice Texas bourbon was available and the dark chocolate cake foundation for the flan was a delightful surprise. ❣️

The Beef Arrachera is incredible, it’s going to be hard to try a new dish at Monica’s now. One of the most delicious meals I’ve had in my 35 years in Dallas.

The Jicama Tacos(marked as Monica’s Favorite) were delicious! This place has a great atmosphere and was a perfect dinner to start our time in Dallas. Staff were very friendly!

First visit, but definitely not our last. Excellent food, great drinks, and friendly / attentive staff. What more could you want? Pictured is their tortilla soup served pho style.

Absolutely delicious! We stayed at the canvas hotel and this is right across the street and was super easy for dinner. Yummy and strong drinks. Full vegetarian menu options as well!!

Another great meal at Monica's. It was great to see Monica running the business and greeting her guests the way she usually does. Thank you for 40+ years of great TexMex in Dallas!!
