"Moniker General Located in Point Loma’s Liberty Station, this multi-concept boutique is as much a place to hang as it is to shop. There’s a café serving locally roasted coffee and artisanal toasts, as well as a 1950s-style cocktail bar with frosé and a variety of local beers. Still, it would be a shame not to peruse the retail space, which stocks everything from bar carts and Linus bikes to Steven Alan sunglasses and DRA women’s clothing. Featuring enormous windows and a clay-tile ceiling from the 1930s, the 4,200-square-foot boutique is made even more stylish by custom furnishings from its sister company, Moniker Made."

Google
Cute place and I was so excited to try it, but unfortunately won’t be returning. Mine and my SIL’s drinks tasted just like straight milk. My salted caramel latte wasn’t even sweet. You can always tell by the color of the coffee if it will be good or not. My SIL even had to ask them to add an extra shot of espresso which I should have done as well. Drinking mike so I feel like I didn’t just waste $7. 🥲

Google
This was my first time checking out this coffee shop, and I’m blown away by the vibe. Selling coffee, breakfast, wine, and clothes all under one roof? Genius. The place is buzzing with people, and the interior design is seriously on point. Plus, the location in the old military barracks adds such a cool, unique touch.

Google
Crazy packed on weekends but nice to stop here, get a coffee, and roam the grounds of Liberty Station. Things you should know: I. PARKING Oh, this place is easy. Liberty Station has multiple, large and free public lots to park your car with plenty of available spaces. II. SERVICE Timely for how packed they are on the weekend. They're grinding out drinks nonstop to keep the line moving! III. QUALITY Of good palatal standard. The design is appealing to be surrounded by as well ~ indoors and outdoors. IV. CAPACITY On weekends, the likelihood of you finding an indoor table to camp out and knock out work is slim, unless you're at a shared table. More seating tends to be outside. Lighting in this place isn't particularly good for my friends who do digital work at cafes since there are windows everywhere, but it's certainly a good spot to catch up with friends!

Google
Coffee & Day Drinking This is an interesting spot. They market it as a coffee/bar/general store. It’s a SoCalgeneral store. Trinkets from San Diego as you expect it would be in Liberty Station. The bar looked kind of cool, although I didn’t sit and have a drink or any food, I was there for the coffee. Decent. Vibe - ☘️☘️☘️☘️ Food & Drink - ☘️☘️☘️ Value - ☘️☘️☘️ Service - ☘️☘️☘️☘️ Overall - ☘️☘️☘️

Google
I generally love this place. But their coffee shop always is closed earlier than Google says. It is typically busy and the atmosphere is great. I've had my coffee made wrong before and the drinks are usually not hot enough (they are "drinking temp" which cool too quickly). But they taste good and Liberty station is great.

Google
One of my favorite coffee shops in San Diego. I’ve been coming here for a few months and I’m never disappointed. The vibe and design of the place is outstanding. Coffee is delicious and staff are really friendly. Great place to hang out, work or study. If you want to stay late, you can order drinks and enjoy the great atmosphere of Liberty Station.

Google
One of my favorite cafe and place to spend a few hours with. Spacious interior. Retro decor. Private collection. Sometimes I like the outdoor seats for some vitamin D while sometimes I’d like to find a sofa seats inside to read a book. There is lot of choices for different people and reasons.

Google
Moniker is a cool spot. There are a lot of seating areas to enjoy your coffee while working or to meet up with friends. The latte and coffee was good. They also sell merchandise for those who like to grab a last minute gift.

Yelp
Decided to try this spot while visiting SD for the first time. Some of the best cocktails I've ever had! Bartenders and staff are super friendly and flexible to customize your cocktail experience. The first time we went, we had the Christmas in San Diego cocktail, a coconut fat washed delight, and the Oaxacan Triceratops with mezcal. Wow!! The flavors, the froth, the presentation were executed so well. Went back the next day and the Christmas in San Diego wasn't available due to a delayed delivery and the overnight process needed for the coconut fat washing. That's how you know this place is legit...The bartender was super and offered many alternatives based on my preferences. Landed on a drink he concocted with some similarity. I liked it and he was kind enough to discount it and totally willing to make me something else if I didn't. Great open space with a patio, gift shop, cafe, and live performances. Quiet enough to hunker down with great coffee and study as many were doing around us. Lovely daytime experience for our vacay.

Yelp
Overall a 3.5 star experience, but rounding up because the drinks were absolutely delicious, although pricey. The experience itself usually would of put me off and I wouldn't have bothered staying. But I did end up waiting for MG to open up, so I wanted to give it a try. Before it is a bar, it is a coffee shop that closes by before the bar opens. Most of the bartenders or baristas will straight up ignore you and not give you the time of day to let you know that the coffee is closed and the bar doesn't open until 3pm. You see the bar and bottles, but you also don't see a menu or open bar space as a lot of the people have been stationed there from earlier in the day. The menu and creativity of the drinks saved the experience! The menu offers few clarified cocktails, creative cocktails and their signature cocktails. The craft in the craft cocktails really owns to its name. I was excited that they had my two favorite cocktails listed - Blood Orange Cinnamon Old Fashion (16) and Creme de Menthe Espresso Martini (16). Absolutely delicious - each to their own flair and the flavors were balanced out well. The ice cubed had their signature logo on it and the presentation to the drinks were executed so well. The bar had a wide variety of spirits to chose from, as well as wine and other beers on tap. Although my initial experience was upsetting, after being able to actually order drinks made me reconsidered coming back. It is located at Liberty Station which has so much to offer, but is it also a hidden gem until 3pm swings around.

Yelp
Happy hour starting at 3:00 should have SOME food options, or at least one. Nope. Only drinks. Food not served until 5:00. And the atmosphere is more of a coffee house college vibe. If I come back it will need to be after 5:00.

Yelp
Easily one of my favorite places for cocktails in San Diego and a must-try for anyone visiting Liberty Station. I've been several times but most recently stopped in for my birthday last month. Always hits the mark! The coffee shop turns into a cocktail lounge in the afternoon and is perfect for a fun day drink, date or brunch. The drink list is ever changing, rotating depending on the season. A super creative, and inspired drunk menu always!! The bartenders are always friendly and most helpful if you can't quite find your drinking palate for the day. Highly recommend the espresso martinis! The vibe is relaxed and fun AND you can always bank on live music on Friday/Saturday 7-9pm. Bookmark the Bar at Moniker General if you're in search of some of the best drinks in San Diego! You can't go wrong!

Yelp
Such a good bar in liberty station! They have great live music and I love the vibe inside. The bartenders are very friendly and they have a great selection of drinks! Highly recommend!

Yelp
We had a blast!!!! So much fun and surprisingly great entertainment! Would recommend this experience to anyone.

Yelp
Okay I've never been here for live music before but I definitely will be back again soon for it. Some friends and I stopped by Moniker on a Friday evening for some live music that they had posted about on instagram. I love this spot during the day to work but I love it even more at night! The cocktail bar is truly amazing with a ton of creative cocktails along with beer and wine. They even have a small tapas style appetizers as well they are super tasty. We got the charcuterie board to share just to have some small bites which was super good. It wasn't too busy this evening so service was quick and the staff is awesome! I really need to go to this spot more because I always have a great time and parking is easy!

Yelp
Super underrated bar! The guys here are super friendly and give great recommendations based on your favorite flavor profile. Check out some of their fall offerings featuring pear, cinnamon, and apple! In the morning, these guys serve up great coffees, have a nice outdoor seating area, a nice indoor area to get work done, and a shop to browse through while you wait for your order!

Yelp
Phenomenal. Hands down best bar in SD for over 5 years. Matt and Nick kill it. Black jewel is the best all around.
google avatar

Marisa M.

Yelp
Maybe I went on an off night, but my experience wasn't as fantastic as some other reviews. I thought the vibe was kind of weird, unclear what they were going for, and the drinks were overpriced. If you're a bar in a coffee shop/store in liberty station I don't think you get to charge $16 for a glass of lower mid shelf red. The bartender was nice enough but the crowd in general wasn't anything special. Maybe it would be better with an event or the live music some referenced.
google avatar

Callie N.

Yelp
Amazing people, great drinks, and awesome atmosphere. I love coming here to study and grab coffee in the morning then a drink later the day. Because they close at 10pm usually, it also allows me to study the whole day there. It's usually quite quiet during the weekday :) They also have live music every Friday night if you're looking for something fun to do!

Yelp
We are pretty obsessed with this place! The cocktails are always delicious and handcrafted when you order. They have a great patio in front and back. They also have seating inside. We have never been disappointed with anything we have ordered. They have seasonal options with a rotating menu, as well as their regular menu that is always available. The cocktails are creative and the bartenders are experts. We go here any chance we get! Highly recommend this hidden gem.

Yelp
By far one of my favorite bars on the West Coast. I've been going here for nearly 5 years and they just keep getting better! Not only are their cocktails innovative but also, delicious. To compliment their exceptional cocktails they have some of the best live music I've seen in San Diego. Such moody vibes at night compared to the day when they are serving coffee. The bartenders, Matt and Nick are extremely, extremely knowledgeable about their craft and also allow me to ask questions - without making me feel like an idiot, a plus! With their recent addition of Tapas, my search is now over for the perfect bar. The wrapped dates and the mostarda toast, omg, I could literally eat it every day. Okay, and maybe the deviled eggs too! Honestly, severely underrated bar in San Diego - go try it!

Yelp
This is a true hidden gem bar in Liberty Station! They are also open on Mondays now. Great spot to hang out and bring food over from the Liberty Station market. The cocktails are on point and have a twist to the standard classic cocktail recipes. The bartenders are super attentive and friendly. They're always ready for suggestions and will offer recommendations based on what you like. Also check their calendar as they have live music on some days!

Yelp
Find this hidden gem, spin around 3 times and pick anything on the menu. Great atmosphere, quick and skilled bartenders... maybe some of the best in SD. Get over here... You'll love it!

Stephanie C.

Yelp
Literally sat at the bar for 8 minutes while the bartender ignored me. It wasn't busy but I figured maybe they didn't start serving until 3. Okay cool. Then two men walked up a few minutes before 3 and ordered their "usual". The bartender jumped to make their drinks, then a different kind to compare and then spent the next 10 minutes talking about the two drinks. I guess I didn't get the memo that this place was for regulars only. I was hoping to have a glass of wine and buy a few gifts. But instead I wanted 20 minutes being ignored.

Yelp
This review is for NICK! He was our bartender :) He was patient whenever we had a question about the menu, and very efficient when it came to our large party. We highly recommend these drinks: The Black Jewel **Christmas in San Diego** Espresso Martini Moniker Margarita Painkiller Moniker is such a GEM! Cute interior, not as snobby as the usual speakeasies, but the drinks are just as good, if not better than some that we've been to.

Yelp
Low key cocktail bar connected to their coffee bar. Hubs and I came here for drinks prior to a candlelight concert, and we ended up ditching it to enjoy more drinks and conversations with the bartender (Nick). Drinks are delicious and Nick is amazing at suggesting new things and filled with whiskey knowledge

Yelp
Holy espresso! I like to think of myself as an espresso martini connoisseur just roaming the streets of San Diego cracked out on espresso at all times! Alcohol? Good. Espresso? Good. & Moniker General sure knows how to whip up a hell of a combination! Cherry on top? (Not that cherries belong on top of EMs..) live music! Came in for an energy boost before a late movie at The Lot and was surprised to stumble upon some live music here. Great service, good vibes, and the ultimate cure for my espresso martini addiction!

Yelp
Very cute place inside of a trendy general store in Liberty Station. Absolutely loved the inventive and beautiful drinks. Bartenders were very friendly and I stayed for HOURS. Will definitely be coming back.

Bruin J.

Yelp
I came here on a random Friday night out of the suggestion of friends. They had live music and a super cool aesthetic. The bartenders Matt and Nick were very knowledgeable and suggested some killer cocktails and we even indulged in the 'patatas bravas' which I guess is a popular Spanish potato dish and it was FIRE! This place is amazing it's a coffee shop/bar/music venue/retail clothing store. Definitely the shining star of Liberty Station...if you're in San Diego, you've got to check this place out!

Justin S.

Yelp
The place was open, but it was late on a Wednesday. Our bartender was Nick, and he experimented drinks with us, making a strawberry lemon inspired version of their Lemon Verbena Milk Punch cocktail. Awesome experience, chatting about flavor profiles and drink crafting. If you get a chance to come here, it was great. Awesome selection, service was 20/10 on a slow night.

Darrell A.

Yelp
They really care here! We did a birthday celebration and they went above and beyond. They didn't do it to make a fortune. They did it for no cost. Other then their time. They're legit. Great atmosphere, great music, shout out to LOVE ON THE WEEKEND! If your looking for a chill vibe, this is it.
google avatar

Nathan C.

Yelp
The ambiance and the menu are dope! Matt and Nick, are both great bartenders and super personable. They make one of my favorite Penicillin's in town.

Yelp
I was visiting from Atlanta and it was my first time in San Diego. The plaza this location is within felt very relaxed and I loved it. I approached the bartender (and I was already a bit tipsy), but was patient as I recognized she was busy. She looked up to me and I told her the drinks I wanted to order. She replied saying how she was making a drink for the gentleman next to me, however in a condescending manner. I let the attitude roll off my back, and I'm thankful I did because she made one of the best cocktails I've ever had. I will return, but I am hoping for better customer service at my next visit.

Danielle M.

Yelp
They just introduced food at the bar and it is excellent! The flatbread is my absolute favorite. It is a must try. The service is great and the staff are super friendly.
google avatar

Yelp
Great bar with solid cocktails. Matt is great with taking your drink preferences into consideration. Not many places do chartreuse cocktails well but this is a visit if you're in the area!

Yelp
The bar at Moniker General never disappoints. If you're looking for a mellow vibe while enjoying some drinks with friends or a date night this will be your new spot. From my experience, the staff have always been welcoming and friendly and drinks are always made with great quality and at a fair price. If you like live music as well, from the few times I've been here a band or two has played. Highly recommend for newbies exploring the city here in San Diego since it's located in liberty station near other tasty restaurants!

Yelp
The Bar has the best drinks, and super knowledgable! Nick and Matt, the main guys there can answer almost any question without making you feel dumb for not knowing. Great place to come with friends for a drink if you want a nice atmosphere, and not a club.

Maggie B.

Yelp
Fabulous!! Beautiful interior/ambiance and delicious and creative cocktails. The service was great and our bartender, Matt, was amazing. Dog friendly too! Loved it. Will definitely come back.

Sarah W.

Yelp
If I could give more thank 5 stars I would! There is no shortage of awesome here. Love music, great welcoming staff, phenomenal cocktails. They were excited to make cocktails. The bar tender, Matt, literally ran to the door to open it for us. I just can't say enough positives. A must visit.

Sherry D.

Yelp
Great drinks and beautiful atmosphere. Beautiful area too. We love it there and go often

Carissa O.

Yelp
Best spot in Liberty Station if you're looking for a dedicated cocktail bar. Operates within Moniker General's brick-and-mortor, and once the retail and coffee components of the store wind down for the evening, the bar vibe takes over. Just a cool, comfortable, cozy atmosphere to grab a pre or post dinner drink. Staff is very friendly, and the menu has a ton to choose from. Literally, like 20+ cocktails ranging from classic to more creative seasonal variations.

Olivia A.

Yelp
Such a gem for great cocktails & company! The Bar at MG is such a great spot for drinks after work or hangs with friends. Super big fan of their El Jefe and love that they have live music on the weekends!
