Graydon Carter Thinks ‘Restaurants Are the Soul of the City’ | Eater NY

"At one point co-owned by Carter with Ken Friedman and Jeff Klein (the latter associated with the recently opened super-exclusive San Vicente). The partnership was later sold to the 4 Charles Prime group in 2022." - Melissa McCart

We did not contribute to the mirror of kisses by the bathroom. Came here for the first time over the weekend. We asked the bartender (who was sooo fine btw) to surprise us & she made us a big Red Bull drink with duckies in them. It was so good. The DJ was playing so many good songs to turn up to. The patio had loud music as well & the Prince mural was awesome across the street. There is places to sit down if you don’t wanna stand or dance the whole time.

Monkey Bar is the kind of place you end up calling your spot. They have Dragoon IPA on tap, which is my favorite beer and one of the best West Coast IPAs in the country in my opinion. It's brewed right here in Tucson, so grabbing one means I’m supporting two local businesses at once. The vibe is exactly what I want in a bar. It has that welcoming neighborhood feel where everyone gets treated like they belong. The staff is always friendly and helpful, and when the owners are around, they’re just as approachable and easy to talk to. No attitude, no weird bar politics, just good people. Happy hour prices are solid, and you’re welcome to bring your own food, which is a rare and underrated perk. If you’re looking for a place with great beer, a relaxed atmosphere, and people who make you feel at home, Monkey Bar nails it.

So yeah I just got reamed out by Theo the bartender for not buying 2 drinks for a tournament that I didn't even win. I've spent hundreds of dollars in this place as a local and for the one day I only had one beer , I get persecuted. $1.00 tip extra is what you would of got so ( was it worth it theo?) Now you hurt the tournament operator because a bunch more people who you acted out violently in front of will never show up again. I want to mention that Hugh is an awesome bartender so whenever he is working I would show up but his brother is bad news. Really sucks for the owner to put up with this.

I have been supporting this bar for years. Went in for my 30th bday the other night, was targeted by the owners shoulder checked my the husband, followed out by "regulars" who were twice my age trying to swing on me. There was an infant baby sitting at the bar with music blasting. Absolutely horrible environment, not safe, and smells like a bathroom constantly. Do not go here!

Yelp
I have been sitting on this review for a bit because I actually hate leaving bad reviews. But maybe this will help save someone else the trouble/disappointment of going to this bar.. We came here because we wanted to play pool one night and Pockets had a tournament going on. We were originally 3 out of the 5 people in the bar (one bartender and one other dude who may or may not have worked there- but kept going into the back room). It was SO quiet which I found oddly unsettling lol. The only way there would be any sound other than our voices was to pay money to play music ourselves and I dropped way too much money to keep it going while we were there. Next, the bartender was odd to us...In some weirdly pretentious way. To be fair, we all do look young and people tend to treat us as such when we go out. However, he was so condescending about everything. I asked for a drink and he corrected me on how to order it-but not in a helpful way? More like he was annoyed with me. I turned 21 almost 15 years ago. I order the same drinks and have never been told that a bartender doesn't understand what I'm asking for- even if I don't use the proper bartending terminology. My roommate asked for a vodka redbull and the bartender made some weird comment about this not being one of our "hipster bars" like ??? I drink vodka red bulls in literal biker bars. We prefer smaller, low-key bars. It was such a strange and judgmental thing to say. He basically talked to US as if we thought we were too good for that place? Idk it's really hard to explain. But it left a horrible taste in our mouths. A couple came in a while before we left and seemed to be friends of the bartender- which somehow made the vibe even more uncomfortable. It's as if they all wanted us to leave. It's so weird to make your literal ONLY paying patrons feel so awkward and unwelcome. Dude needs a serious attitude adjustment. The a-hole bartender theme is out dated. That's just bad business. It's one thing to be busy and short with people when you're serving a full bar; that's usually expected, but you don't have to be a jerk to the only three people in the place lol.

Yelp
Got thirsty after geocaching in the neighborhood. Drove passed this place and decided to stop by and give it a try. Surprisingly lots of parking in back with a rear entrance. Clean pool tables (2) if that's you're thing. Friendly bar staff and patrons. Enjoyed our visit. We'll be back soon. Thanks for the great time.

Yelp
Went for the first time last Saturday. Super fun, good karaoke host, great bartenders, easygoing crowd, nice selection of beers and booze.

Yelp
Just popped in here on a whim for some Sunday Funday. Not too crowded, perfectly socially distanced. The bartenders we had (Theo and Hugh) are amazing. They filled us in on all the specials and happenings they have coming up. Will definitely be seeing them again, you betcha!
