"“Beaded one-of-a-kind pieces made in Cape Town’s townships in South Africa is art that really makes a difference,” is how Monkeybiz, a non-profit income-generating bead project describes the venture. This heart-centered business began as a shared vision among the three artists to regenerate the indigenous art of bead work, while creating employment opportunity for women in the most under-resourced areas of the Western Cape. Countless bead artists in South Africa struggle to make ends meet and labour intensively for a pittance. In Cape Town, for many such such artists, Monkeybiz has changed all that. They have succeeded in establishing a vibrant community of more than 450 bead artists, many of whom are the sole breadwinners within their households." - Tenacity Works

Ah this place is a wonderful exhibit of the abilities humans hold. Alongside this company's philanthropist character it houses some of the most dazzling creatures made out of beads. My Aunt is obsessed with the products of the store and since she was not accompanying us in Cape Town we had to visit the store to buy her something. A delightful staff and beautiful display of art.

Another Covid victim. This used to be one of the best stocked, most colourful bead art shops in Cape Town. They were based in Bokaap during their glory days and known for their fun and trendy souvenirs. Now they are sharing a dark warehouse space in Paarden Eiland. You can still buy some bead art here but stock is extremely limited. I hope they can revive their brand. The star is for the team members who still somehow keep up the spirit. Posted to save someone the drive. The entrance is difficult to find. No sign.

This guys are creative. I’m highly impressed on how they beautifully hand craft each piece. I actually made one of the hand beads myself.

You walk in to the shop, and you're instantly surrounded by this beaded wonderland of creatures beyond your imagination - small and large, colorful and monochrome. Each has personality and each is a work of art. I bought two pieces from the shop and would have liked to walk away with more. The owls are just incredible - I can see them in a child's room. Magnificent, best of Cape Town, do not miss this store.

As far as I am concerned, this place is a must visit in Cape Town. Monkeybiz products are some of the best examples of contemporary South African design. I was like a kid in a candy store. The colours, the craftsmanship and the level of imagination is something to behold. Creatures big and small to suit every budget. The hardest part is choosing your favourite beast. I went in intending to buy one of their mid size pieces and fell in love with a large elephant. Looking forward to taking her home to Australia with me.
