Google
Delicious non dairy options that doesn’t taste over coconutty. Staff is friendly and patient and will make great recommendations. It’s nice that the shop is opened late. Parking options are almost non existent. You also can’t sample flavors which makes flavor selection difficult.

Hungry Sparrow

Google
Tasted unnatural and granulated ... Some of the flavors did not make sense as it is a anti-dairy and vegan ice cream shop... Cookie and cream , this may be why they had a granulated texture. I don't understand how you can have ice cream with no cream, probably why it tasted unnatural. The same person that was processing payments was also hand delivering cones with no gloves. The sink was on the other side of the serving station. Never saw her go behind it to wash her hands as we ate on side walk seating area. We did not even finish the cone.

Google
Staff were friendly and helpful, we got two scoops each - the piña colada one just tasted of straight salt, the banana brownie one just tasted liked mashed bananas, no brownie at all. The s'mores one was okay, if you don't mind chunks of soggy marshmallow and cookie in it. The stand out is the Mocha Fudge Brownie, 10/10 for this flavour! The coffee "ice cream" with the chocolate fudge brownie bits was to die for!

Google
I found it expensive and didn't like the quality of the ice cream. It tasted very artificial and sweet to me. Dairy free ice cream can be incredible, but I don't think this place quite nails it. Note for vegans: it's not a fully vegan shop so be careful of some animal products and flavors (honey).

Google
I am not going to lie I was quite hesitant trying this place as someone who lives regular ice cream… but that being said this place exceeded my expectations. Got the seasonal flavor of “Lemon Poppyseed Poundcake” and it was so delicious and refreshing. If I didn’t know that it was made dairy free I would have thought I was eating normal ice cream! Highly recommend giving this place a try!

Google
Not vegan but this might be my favorite ice cream shop. The flavors are fun and delicious. Cookies and cream was straight 🔥. Plus the pup loved it! She got her own bowl of vanilla with no consequences for me since it’s lactose free

Google
Terrific service and food! But the environment could use some change. It’s very loud. Curtains, felt wall clings, etc. could help substantially. Also, the tables are high for the chair height. Something to consider.

Google
Monkey Wrench is a vibrant spot in Salt Lake City, known for its inventive plant-based ice creams that cater to both vegans and those with dairy sensitivities. The shop offers a wide range of flavors, from classics like chocolate and vanilla to unique options such as lavender honeycomb and matcha. The texture is impressively creamy, considering it's all vegan, and the flavors are rich and satisfying. The staff is friendly and eager to let you sample as many flavors as you'd like. The atmosphere is fun and casual, making it a great stop for a dessert outing. Whether you're vegan or just in the mood for something new, Monkey Wrench is worth a visit for its creative and delicious ice cream offerings.

Yelp
Leaving a five star review solely for the star of the show, hot fudge sundae. I hardly eat sweets or ice cream! Monkey wrench had me eating a hot fudge sundae thrice in a week! Let's blame Utah summer shall we? The best ice cream I've ever had. Now, I also got the pink sugar cookie and it was such a delight but you will want to keep it refrigerated. I did try other flavors such as cookies and cream and whatever flavors my husband got so I know their other options are amazing but I'll keep day dreaming of a hot fudge sundae whenever I crave some ice cream from here on out. Side note: parking situation isn't the best but the ice cream is worth it. Whether you're vegan or not! Trust me!

Yelp
All they sell is non-dairy completely vegan ice cream, which is 100% going to turn some people off, no question. Whatever. This may be the best ice cream I have ever had. Anywhere. It's absolutely delicious. And I am hardly a vegan. We tried four flavors. The Salty Bastard (pretzels, caramel, potato chips and more) was amazing. The Mud Pie was decadent. The "Budderfinger" had giant pieces of candy in it. The Chocolate Fudge Brownie was very chocolate-y and very brown-ie. You will not miss the absence of dairy one bit. This is superb ice cream or whatever wizardry this is.

Yelp
I was in town for a conference and staying at the hotel nearby. One of my colleagues suggested we check it out and I'm so glad we did. We ended up going back again before we left. Everything is dairy free but you'd honestly new know it, there were several gluten free and cashew free options. Everything I tried was delicious. The cashier was so sweet and made the best suggestions when I wasn't sure what to pick. I highly recommend it to everyone in the area and I may just have to fly back to SLC just to have more tea & biscuits. It was such a unique but super delicious flavor.

Yelp
Really fun spot and good non-dairy options. Some options like the Watermelon Sorbet weren't the best, but Mint Chip, the homemade Butterfinger, Cookie Dough and others were awesome. Wandered around the Galivan center while eating. Parking isn't great and we've skipped monkey wrench a few times due to not being able to find parking.

Yelp
I discovered this anti-dairy ice cream establishment while out to dinner. Their name, Monkey wrench and sign for anti-dairy treats piqued my interest. I stopped on my way home for a pint to-go. I wasn't sure what to expect. Sometimes you just don't know with lavendar flavors or even non-dairy products. (So anyway, I got a lavendar pint, and it was really good!) It had a nice flavor, and their was a nice coconut flavor, I assume from coconut milk? It was tasty, and they had lots of other flavors I'd go back to try, like peanut butter brownie and birthday cake. The employees were pleasant as well.

Yelp
This was recommended to me by a staff member at Franklin and I'm very glad he did! This is definitely some of the best ice cream I've ever tried and it's all vegan. As someone who can't have more than a few bites of ice cream because of the dairy, this place is too perfect! The staff was really nice and happy to answer all questions I had about the ice cream and the place itself. My guy and I split the Lemon Poppyseed Poundcake since it was the most unique flavor we saw and it was soo good, we wish we had gotten separate scoops. The flavor was very well-balanced and light. It was too perfect! I can only imagine how great the other flavors are. Highly recommend and will definitely stop by here again whenever I come back to the area.

Yelp
I love Monkeywrench! The hot fudge is the best I've ever had, but their ice cream, milkshakes, hot fudge sundaes, and baked goods are all great as well.
google avatar

Renee I.

Yelp
FYI: This is an ice cream stand, not an ice cream shop... an ALL VEGAN ice cream stand at that! I got the two scoops of Cookies and Cream because I my much of a fan of the other flavors. The Lemon Shortbread Poppyseed piqued my interest, but I thought it would be too sweet. I got a chance to try the Lemon and instantly regretted my decision. Don't get me wrong, the CC was delicious, but the Lemon spoke to me. It wasn't too sweet and the shortbread was the perfect combination.

Yelp
Monkeywrench is a quaint little ice cream stand that I wanted to check out while in the city. My best friend and I walked here from the City Creek Center and it was a pleasant walk. It's a walk up stand so you order from the outside and they hand you the ice cream. I'm a big lavender lover so of course I had to go with that flavor. However, I'm not the biggest fan of coconut based vegan ice cream but this was delicious! The lavender, blueberry and coconut pairing was very complimentary and the texture was 10/10. I was hoping to try the tea and biscuits but this was a good second choice. Would definitely come back if I'm in the area again.

Yelp
So amazing to come across an ice cream shop like this. I am lactose intolerant and I must take Lactaid before indulging in ice cream. It was so nice to just enjoy my dessert without worries. If you wouldn't have told me, I wouldn't have even been able to tell that it didn't contain dairy. Even my husband who was reluctant to try it, loved it!
google avatar

Isaac R.

Yelp
I saw this vegan ice cream place and it caught my attention, as I wanted to know how creamy it would be. The flavors were pretty interesting. We tried the Lemon Bar and Lavender, and we were so impressed with how creamy they were for being vegan. But it got to a point where it was overly sweet.
google avatar

Albanie N.

Yelp
all vegan which is awesome, but all ice cream flavors (except watermelon sorbet, which doesn't count IMO) are made with coconut, so no options for people who are intolerant or allergic to coconut!
google avatar

Maddy S.

Yelp
The ice cream here is AMAZING and all vegan. We got the cookie monster and budderfingers on waffle cones, and a brownie to go. All of it was delicious, and the cookie monster on waffle cone was the best and something I'll be thinking about for a long time get it, you won't be disappointed! The venue is a walk up window, you don't go inside. After you receive your order, they have some patio seating.
google avatar

Yelp
It's so great that a 100% dairy-free ice cream place exists. This place has unique and classic flavors, something for everyone, and friendly service. Rocky Road was delicious and I'd get it again. The mini marshmallows (also vegan) and large almond chunks were highlights. I forgot to take pics of the actual ice cream, haha. You order at the window and then take it to-go. We were asked to confirm our order multiple times and it was still wrong, so there's some work to be done in that department. It's also pretty expensive for tiny scoops, but the quality is strong. If you're near Gallivan Center, it's worth a try.

Yelp
Snugged in a small alleyway, this location seemed like it got a decent amount of foot traffic. There was a line so we waited a bit at the window (shop was closed since it was late?) Though they did seem like they were trying to be efficient, we still had to wait quite a bit. I unfortunately could not finish my single scoop of chocolate fudge due to it's grainy sandy texture and extremely extremely sweet flavor; think hitting the back of your throat and stuck there type of sweetness. The texture was so sandy I could not get past it. I've had ice cream flavors that were misses before but I ended up finishing them regardless. This one I tried but could not finish due to those reasons... My partner enjoyed his though so at least one of us was able to make their wait and costs worth it. Unfortunately due to the wait along with the flavor and texture, I do not think I'll be back.

Yelp
Such a cute location. Had no idea it was vegan/cruelty-free until after eating? Not to mention, was fantastic. Coffee-woffee and lavender had me levitating.
google avatar

Yelp
Walked by this place and had to check it out! Vegan ice cream... Sign me up! We ordered a coffee, chocolate ice cream and an avocado with the espresso on the side. The taste was so yummy and delicious and didn't have so much of that bland vegan taste. The service was awesome too. We didn't know what to order and the associate was so awesome and guided us to our liking. Order at the window and sit outside kind of spot. Must visit!
google avatar

Michele K.

Yelp
Vegan ice cream place. The lemon poppyseed ice cream was delicious. It wasn't too sweet - in a good way! I wouldn't have known the ice cream was vegan without reading the signs! It was so good! I wish they served their pint flavors in smaller portions, some of the flavors sounded so good!
google avatar

Elizabeth Z.

Yelp
Takes the cake for best dessert in salt lake. Even if you're not dairy-free, this ice cream is something to write home about. Such delicious flavors. Nothing tastes "artificial " because it's not. Real ingredients in the flavors and add ons. Got the banana brownie and chocolate chip cookie dough, both were fantastic. Wish the scoops were bigger!! Real house made brownie and cookie pieces were amazing. Wish there were more locations, will certainly miss this place when we leave.

Yelp
I stumbled across this ice cream shop and man am I glad! It's dairy free but you would not know. I got the lemon poppy seed and a scoop of lavender! Amazing!! Delicious!! Definitely my new favorite ice cream in SLC

Sarah R.

Yelp
I am addicted to this ice cream! We stumbled upon it before catching a movie and I'm so glad we tried it. I wasn't sure if I'd like vegan ice cream, but it's absolutely delicious. My hubby and I have tried a bunch of different flavors and have never been disappointed. Our new favorite activity is to take trax to Gallivan so we can get a cup of tasty ice cream!!

Yelp
Yummy yummy vegan and gluten free ice cream!!!! It's so nice to know you can some good ice cream somewhere in this state! If I'm downtown I'm 9/10 times going here. Zest is another amazing restaurant that is a vegan and gluten free restaurant but there isn't ice cream. I'll write a review for them shortly if I haven't already. I liked the Cookie Monster and the lavender ice cream flavors I got one scoop of each! I've also had and always enjoy the affogatos. Really good coffee with amazing vanilla vegan and gluten free ice cream! #purebliss #monkeywrench

Yelp
I was eating in the area and love trying new ice cream shops. I really liked the icecream itself, and thought that the rocky road and cookie dough were great, and super creamy. The price point wasn't terrible over all. It appears that the shop is only available from a streetside window, so no one can enter the shop, similar to Covid restrictions. It looked nice inside, so I'm not sure why they don't let people in. You also don't get to touch the screen to select a tip, which means that the employee asks if you want to tip, which really bugs me, and almost made me lower my rating. They aren't clear at all on the allergens from the menu itself specifically nut allergies. By making dairy free icecream, you should indicate what your base is made of, but it doesn't show.

Suzy S.

Yelp
So glad I found this vegan ice cream place! It was so creamy and flavorful. Staff was super friendly. It was a super enjoyable visit.
google avatar

Alissa S.

Yelp
My lactose-intolerant self was so pleasantly surprised by an ice cream shop that was all dairy free ("anti-dairy," Monkeywrench calls it) that I kept asking them if it was indeed dairy free. I got the banana and chocolate with a whipped topping, which is something else I never get to have. What a wonderful treat, and unlike many plant-based ice creams, it was creamy and melted evenly and well. My ice cream was delicious and didn't taste overly of coconut milk or cream, and the chocolate tasted like *chocolate,* not the fake weird stuff I usually get in plant-based ice creams. The service was quick, and the walk-up service was efficient and friendly.

Yelp
Vegan ice cream that's actually good! Lavender flavor was subtle and delicious, refreshing after a warm summer day in SLC
google avatar

Yelp
Vegan ice cream is OUTSTANDING!!!! 10 out of 10 Menu attached Walk up only A must when in Salt Lake City Utah!!
google avatar

Yelp
Ice cream is good but system is slow and poorly designed. Getting ice cream is supposed to be fun. This sucks.
google avatar

Yelp
My husband and I came here to check out their vegan sweets. We got a cookie sandwich, a brownie, and two types of ice cream flavors: cookies and cream and birthday cake. The cookies sandwich was a little hard to eat, seeing as it was frozen, but it was still very very good. Both of the ice cream flavors and brownie were also delicious. We took it to go seeing as it was more of a to go place, however the two guys working were very friendly and nice. We will definitely return to try some of their other ice cream flavors and sweets next time we're in the area.

Luke A.

Yelp
This is a fun place to grab some "healthy" ice cream with lots of variety of flavors, but the overall experience was just ok. The people are kind and patient while we waded through the many options, and the facilities were nice and presentable. I might go back if on a hot day and I happened to be in the area but wouldn't go out of my way for another round. My wife liked their sugar cookie, so that's a bonus!
google avatar

Jackie F.

Yelp
Vegan ice cream?! I think YES! loved the mint cookie ice cream very creamy and yummy. I wish they had the mint chip available for scoops but it's only available by the pint. Also they don't usually add whipped cream to cones but they did for me because if it's vegan I want it! Also who doesn't love a good waffle cone Go try it out! Enjoy!
google avatar

R D.

Yelp
Amazing dairy free ice cream ans milkshakes. Very friendly service! Great selection of flavors and options. Parking can be a bit rough.
google avatar

Lisa N.

Yelp
You won't miss the dairy- but you might miss out of you don't stop for dessert at Monkeywrench. We came by after searching for dessert near downtown SLC- this was definitely a big hit! I got the earl grey and lemon bar- both were DEVINE! SOOOO sooo good! My husband got a mint milk shake- he was impressed. While we were there in March, they still had COVID operations going (aka, no seating inside, only order at the window). Maybe that might change as we get closer into summer and cases go down? Either way- do stop by!
google avatar

Lindsay M.

Yelp
Delicious vegan ice cream. Incredible service. Sadly, a lot of their ice creams have a cashew base so I couldn't try all of them. *please swap to an allergen free base!
google avatar

Ronnie H.

Yelp
The ice cream was so good, we came here twice over our two days in SLC! I couldn't believe we found a vegan ice cream shop so close to where we were staying, and they're open late. For the price (which is on-par with other gourmet vegan ice cream we've had), it's disappointing that you can't sample anything first. They said that if we don't like something they'll replace it but then isn't that another gamble? And probably more wasteful than being able to try it first. We ended up liking the three flavors we had, but we played it safe with our choices. The scoop sizes are also a bit smaller than I'm used to. Finally, the payments are taken via Square, but it's the employee who does all the processing and then asks you if you want to leave a tip (and how much). Not a fan of that system. Overall it's still worth a stop, although there is probably some room for improvement.
google avatar

Jessica L.

Yelp
5 stars for the delicious ice cream, I had the Cookie Monster and was likely the best ice cream I've had. Minus 1 star for slow less than friendly service.
google avatar

Winnie L.

Yelp
Pro-tip: Go when they are offering samples (if ever). Highlights: Service was kind and patient. Lots of ice cream flavors to choose from. I like that it's dairy free. I really want to like this place so I would come back to try it one more time in case I just picked bad flavors previously. Lowlights: I'm not sure if we just chose bad flavors, but I've never not been able to finish my ice cream and I really couldn't finish. We ordered the Earl Grey Tea Biscuits and Apricot Jubilee and the Earl Grey flavor was way too strong and pungent and there was just this overall sweetness to both that made the glands in the back of my mouth water. It was not enjoyable. Not offering samples which probably would have helped choose flavors that matched my palette more.
google avatar

Nycole R.

Yelp
My son and I discovered this ice cream shop while attending a concert at Gallivan Center. It was after 9pm, so most everything else around was closed. We were happy to hop in line with half a dozen other people to get a treat. It moved fast, and we were enjoying dessert not 10 minutes later. Monkeywrench (odd name, but let's go with it), is all vegan-which includes dairy free. Lactose intolerant people celebrate! The ice cream has a good consistency and a huge variety of flavors. Sure, it tastes a little different than traditional ice cream, but it's an acceptable substitute if you are looking for something cool without dairy. The folks who work here are very friendly and are good at their jobs. They had the line moving quickly and efficiently. The inside was closed, but it looks like during non-Covid times, they might allow people in to see the ice creams and eat at a table. However, there were a few tables outside to enjoy.
google avatar

Kashyap M.

Yelp
Their vegan Vanilla Milkshake was really good. It was sweet, creamy and mildly salty. It was topped with coconut cream and sprinkles. Service by the window and outdoor seating only. Definitely give this place a try.

Selena P.

Yelp
So fricking good!!! 10/10 recommend if you're trying to treat your sugar craving like. I had the hot fudge sundae and my friend had the raspberry matcha
google avatar

Kenyetta R.

Yelp
The service here was great. This was my first time visiting. The ice cream was ok. I didn't realize it was vegan when I ordered. That's the only reason why I didn't give a 5 star. If you're vegan you may love it. It was just very new to me.
google avatar

Alex E.

Yelp
Monkey wrench is a dope spot, the options here are unique and very well made. I tend to come back every other week.
google avatar

Aaron B.

Yelp
Really good ice cream with unique flavors. Fast service and the earl grey infused with sugar cookie pieces is actually pretty good.
google avatar

Taylor H.

Yelp
This place was amazing!! My husband is dairy free so this was such a great find for us! Their diary free ice cream didn't have that weird texture we've come to tolerate, it actually tasted like real ice cream! Their flavors were fun and different which we loved! We will definitely be back!!
google avatar

Summer L.

Yelp
Fantastic dairy free ice cream! We've had a lot of dairy free ice creams and usually you can taste the coconut base which outweighs every other taste in the ice cream. But Monkeywrench knocks it out the park. The two flavors we had were absolutely delicious and we couldn't pick up hints of cashew or coconut.
google avatar

Jennifer R.

Yelp
One of my go to's when I'm visiting Salt Lake City! Great location, amazing flavors and quick service... best part, it's dairy free!!
google avatar

Ryan P.

Yelp
Let me tell you- I'd post photos like I normally do, but I couldn't eat this ice cream fast enough. Vegan and entirely delicious, this is the absolute spot for something sweet after a healthy dinner. The flavors vary, and the service is so fast- it's no frills and all thrills. Seating is outside an order window- and that's it. How can you not appreciate how straightforward that is?! I know- no photos. But believe me- GO. And whatever flavor you'll get, you'll never believe it's vegan!
google avatar

Evie H.

Yelp
Fantastically good! I didn't expect much coming from the west coast where we have amazing local ice creams in SF and LA but I was actually quite surprised at how tasty the ice cream here was. We ordered the Dead to me (chocolate ash with raspberry) and the Key Lime Pie and wow! I would totally buy their ice cream if they sourced to bigger name grocery stores because it is worth it! Hard to believe that they are vegan too. Definitely stop by if you're in downtown Salt Lake City and give it a try!
google avatar

Chad R.

Yelp
The service was good. The ice cream is ok. I know it's "anti dairy" as they say... which might be a big deal to some people... but I just wanted some good ice cream. Also the store runs from a make shift window out front... so it's more like walking up to a food truck.
