The burnt ends were the BEST. All the sauces were great. Best ribs I've had in a long time, don't even need sauce. All the sides were amazing too! Don't miss the custard cornbread!

I’m not sure, but this could be the most delicious building in Virginia. The only reason I’m not sure is because I did not try the ice cream place on the back side of the building. It was not open! I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with the smoky mac & cheese for lunch. It was all delicious. The pork was moist and the mac & cheese was smoky and creamy. I tried three different sauces with the pork and they were all good. I think my favorite was the angry Texan. Because I am a genius, I also ordered the burnt ends and beans to go so that I could have them for dinner. Even after being heated up in the microwave, it was all very good The restaurant itself was cozy and I really enjoyed the music playlist. They played Nine Inch Nails and rage against the machine. It makes me wish that I traveled through Purcellville more often to stop here. I will have to take my wife for a trip one weekend. The cow udder styled sauce dispenser was funny and useful

Some of the best bbq I’ve had in Virginia and the Alabama White Chicken is fantastic. Great atmosphere and friendly service. Burger was very tasty but a tiny bit overcooked. Had some take away burnt ends and ribs and was also 10/10. I’ll definitely be back

Great food! Awesome music and super friendly staff. The hot links the turkey, the ribs, the jalapeno poppers all excellent. Stop in. They have a full bar and you won't get any better. Smoked meats, baked beans, coleslaw and just a great atmosphere to show up. Hang out. Hang out all day. Get your Billy full, get you a cold drink and listen to some hometown jams. We really enjoyed our stop and we will be back as soon as possible

This place is highly rated so we were excited to try it out. When we arrived, we noticed the full parking lot so obviously this is a well liked restaurant. After we placed our order, we noticed the wide selection of 5 different bbq sauces. Unfortunately for me, they must have run out of burnt ends before we got there, so instead I got the pulled pork sandwich. By itself, I didn't find that the pork itself stood out. But with the Carolina sauce, it was mighty tasty. That sauce was a good blend of Carolina spices without being too watery as is sometimes the case. Their spicy sauce angry Texan was also excellent. The baked beans were some of the best I've had. My wife had the brisket with corn bread and mac and cheese. The brisket was typical brisket and good. The mac and cheese didn't stand out though the cheese sauce was fine. The cornbread was a good item but not the consistency of cornbread. It was actually very good but more of hand held corn pudding or an ooey gooey corn cake. Really, you need to try it but don't be expecting classic cornbread. I would come back here easily, hopefully to try the burnt ends.

This place is most likely the best bbq in Virginia. If you're heading here from the DMV, don't expect Purcellville prices to be lower than home. Brisket is insanely juicy. Ribs pretty good too. Desserts hit.

Our party of 7 came here for lunch on a Sunday. We like the cozy, friendly atmosphere. The manager or owner came by to welcome and said Hi twice. At this restaurant, you pick a table, go to order the food, get the drinks yourself, then a server will bring to food to the table. Everything worked very well. We ordered various dishes, all were OK, no wow factor. 2 of us came here specifically to have the pastrami but it was dry, not much flavor, quite a disappointment! You will see a black board with list of dishes but watch out, all sides, including corn bread have their own prices, so the bill will be higher than we expected. We might be back to try some other dishes

This bbq place is first rate. You order inside. Take a number and go sit. We sat outside with a view of the Blue Ridge a stone's throw away. I ordered a half rack with side of Smoked Gouda Mac and Cheese. The ribs were fall off the bone but held together for the perfect bite. There is sauce and a dry rub. The dry rub was a perfect blend (I'm guessing) of brown sugar, a little salt, red pepper and black pepper among other things. It was the best rub I've ever tasted! To top it off we split a banana pudding. Delicious! My sister had shredded bbq which was super tender with sauce, potato salad and cornbread. The cornbread was super moist and almost tasted like a dessert.

Oh man I was at training for about week down in Harpers Ferry. Everyone I swear was jumping up and down about their experiences here. The drive here was like something out of a Steven King movie. Then I got here to my surprise I guess this restaurant used to be a house at one time? It reminded me of Get it at Porky's some of you all will know what I am taking about. You all know me I thought a for second there it was going to be a PINCHE DELICIOUS moment. Brisket is like a key to success. Me being so critical about brisket well they are either going to like me. Then there is the other side they are really going to hate me. So here we go the inside of this place there was a lot of noise. The vibe here felt polluted as if customer service was a must. Ah yea it's truly a must just like having good brisket. Which in this case it was not. The bar b q sauce were not original. The brisket did not hang over my fingers and it dried up pretty fast. I picture is worth a thousand words is what they say right? It wonder if it was the same with Piccaso? Here the brisket fell apart and tasted dried. The smoke ring was kind of thin. It's called mashed potatoes not smash potatoes trying very hard to be original. When I took some home it was more like smoked beef jerky. This place does have good ice cream parlor which I will talk about later. That is all Chief If you are lost it doesn't mean you are wandering.

Great bbq spot!! I went to this place on a weekday and there plenty of seats available. You can choose to sit at the bar, high top, or one of their tables. You place your order at their counter and pick your seats. They have a station with the sauces, my favorite with the house sauce. I tried the burnt ends (pictured). They were perfectly done and tasted delicious!! A must try when you visit. They came with a side of Mac and cheese (you choose your side) a side of cornbread. I also tried the brisket, but it was a little too salty for my taste. Aside from that, I will say this place is perfect!!! Another thing to note is how friendly the staff is!! Solid A!!!

This place is great depending on what day you catch them unfortunately I've been here numerous times have gotten the wings sometimes they are so dry I don't want to eat them sometimes they are actually like wow I can eat 12 more.. I would say they're really not consistent on the BBQ end which sucks cause a lot Of people go here.. so I would explore other places if you aren't satisfied...

Delicious BBQ and ambience throughout. We had nice service at the bar. I ordered a pastrami sandwich with a side of mac & cheese, and my friend ordered a full rack of ribs. We also ordered two of the bacon on a stick. My oh my, was it all ever so delicious!! The ribs were fall-the-bone AMAZING!! The bacon on the stick were phenomenal!! They were amazingly thick, and delicious!! Where on earth did they come from and why has any other BBQ joint ever thought of this before??? Simply DELICIOUS!!! The pastrami here is just to die for!!!!! OH MY!!!! If you've been to NYC, you'd know this is the REAL DEAL!!!!! We cannot WAIT to go back and chow down on some amazing BBQ!!!!

I thoroughly enjoy every meal I have at Monk's! While I haven't tried the pulled pork (yet), the ribs are consistently delicious and pack a flavor filled punch. The brisket hot dog was a pleasant surprise and is definitely a favorite. The restaurant has a relaxed rustic vibe with both indoor and outdoor seating and a few tvs for watching sports. Ample parking out front. The service is always speedy and folks are polite. I will continue tasting my way through the menu in the future!

This place deserves a million stars. Absolutely loved everything here from the smell of BBQ in the air to the casual environment. Besides the food the best thing may be the cow udder sauce dispenser! So funny! Onto the good stuff, the meats! 4 of us shared the "Piglet" so we could try a little of everything. It comes with pulled pork, brisket, pastrami, burnt ends, chicken, ribs, hot link, Texas toast, pickels and slaw. We also got a side of mac and cheese and baked beans. Every single thing was excellent, the flavor, the cook, the sauces so good. It was the perfect amount of food to share even with two men who love to eat a lot!

I liked the atmosphere of the place, menu options, and the bear selection. The people working there were very friendly. There was an odor inside that really botherbothered me my child. I smelled it but I couldn't tell if it was just BBQ or cleaning supplies but my husband and I were fine! The brisket was fall apart tender, pork wasn't too fatty, the mac and cheese was so creamy and good, and I liked the mustard BBQ sauce. My husband also really like the dirty rice! We like a little more smokier taste in our meats, the cornbread was ok, and the smashed potato was very salty.

I've eaten here half a dozen times in the past three years and each time the food quality went down. Overcooked ribs and dry brisket are not good quality barbecue when there are so many other options.

Just left Monk's and had the Tuesday night special - half-priced burgers and beers. The burgers were great and the young servers were very helpful. Went to the bar to get a couple of beers and were "served" by a very disinterested, unfriendly barmaid. She did not even bother to say "thank you" after being paid and tipped I went back in to get another beer after a bit and stood at one end of the bar for a couple of minutes then went to the opposite end where the barmaid was standing and stood directly in front of her for 3 minutes without her looking up from her phone a single time! There were only 3 or 4 patrons at the bar and she could not have been bothered with "customers". I left without being served and seriously doubt I will ever return. As a longtime small business owner I can say with confidence that she is a cancer that needs to be removed before she chases away any more customers. I can't think of a worse person to employ than that barmaid. Larry

Great BBQ! Make sure to come on an empty stomach. Portions are big and the marinade is delicious. The ribs have a really good marinade and perfectly fall off the bone level. We also got their burnt ends which were delicious as well. Soft and easy to eat. They have a good variety of barbecue sauces and sides as well. Their Mac and cheese is a must. Potato salad was great too. For dessert both banana and dirt pudding were delicious. Service was good and our food came fast. Would definitely come back.

Monk's is quite a drive from the more populous parts of NoVa, but it is sooooo worth it. Seating is somewhat limited, so I'd recommend getting it to-go. The sauce bar is a bit weird in that you squeeze the sauce from a hanging bottle but maybe that's a plus for some people. Food comes out quick and they are very efficient with the ordering process. My personal favorite is the brisket, but I'm sure you can't go wrong with any meats from Monk's. One side that stands out are the mushrooms - I don't know any other BBQ joints that do mushrooms, and my family goes crazy for them.

My lunch at Monk's BBQ was underwhelming. I opted for the brisket and BBQ beans priced at $14.99, which disappointingly came with only one side . I added a serving of potato salad. Alcoholic drinks required a separate purchase at the bar. The outdoor seating area was not well-maintained. Service was fast, but the food didn't live up to expectations. The brisket, served not in slices but as a heap of pieces was moist yet overly fatty and lacked flavor. The BBQ beans, mixed with brisket bits, were enveloped in an excessively thick sauce and were just passable. The potato salad was overly creamy and the potatoes were chopped into very tiny cubes. Overall, the meal didn't deliver, making it feel like both a waste of time and money. I won't be returning. For context, it's common for BBQ places to offer two sides with an entree. I definitely prefer HammerDown BbQ in Aldie.

This was my first time at Monk's. I have heard great things about it. I was not blown away. First thing - there are bees swarming the outside seating area. I orded the ribs, mac and cheese, and pototoe salad. The ribs were ok, but overcooked and dried out. The Mac and cheese is very good. Sauces are outstanding. This place has the potential to be very good, but they are not executing.

It's a lot. Not the portions, or anything else - just the size of options on the menu. Your traditional BBQ options, plus white BBQ chicken (Alabama or whatever, it's good!), hot links of smoked pork sausage, and tons of sides. Core BBQ of brisket, pulled pork, and ribs are awesome. Make sure to get some burnt ends and pastrami as well - as good as you're gonna get around here. Took a star off for the weirdness of how it's set up. There are no servers except to bring food to your number. So getting a drink (at the full bar!) Takes some standing in line. If it was streamlined I think it would work a bit better. Worth a detour to kill an afternoon, but I wouldn't sit next to it on a plane ride cross country.

WARNING You will encounter awesome BBQ! You can smell this place (which is a good thing) a mile away and as soon as you pull up and see all the pits smoking with and all the wood they use piled up you know its going to be a treat. We tried the ribs, brisket, and burnt ends all of which were finger licking good and accompanied the savory food with one of the great IPA's they have on tap inside at the full bar. As sides the baked beans were tasty and tangy and the mac n cheese was deliciously creamy and had a great flavor. Highly suggest you point the GPS to Monk's.

My family and I had gotten ice cream from the place owned by them right next to/connected to the bbq joint and we were amazed by the volume of people pouring into the place. Unfortunately, just having had lunch we couldn't stuff our faces like our hearts desires so I came back a few weeks later, friend in tow and this place sure did not disappoint. First, the decorations of empty whisky bottles on Xmas trees and up top as lighting is fantastic. The use of cow udders to get your sauces was clever AF. The servers are unpretentious and just the right amount of friendly and helpful. And the ordering system is pretty straightforward. For food, my friend got the nachos with brisket. At first she was a little freaked by the cold chili but said the hot cheese and cold chili really worked well. I had a taste of her nachos and thought they were divine. I got the burnt ends with Gouda Mac and cheese and baked beans. FAB. I like my southern food on the sweet side and the baked beans and burnt ends were just that. I am really picky about my Mac and cheese (I find most meh) and this was perfectly gooey with spirally noodles. My friend loved my burnt ends so much she got some for the hubs back in Pittsburgh. Can't wait to go back.

Great BBQ in Purcellville! Ordered pulled pork, smoked Turkey, brisket, and sausage. Everything was fresh and delicious!

Bacon on a Stick! Ribs! Brisket! One of the best BBQ around! Everything is solid. Family friendly atmosphere. Parking is not a problem. Love the display of sauces available.

Monk's bbq was recommended to us by the lady at two twisted posts winery that we were visiting in the area. We got here right before 5pm on Saturday and the parking lot was packed! That was the first good sign. Circled a few times and then we got a spot after someone left. They are self seating so you find a table, place your order inside and they'll give you a table number, then bring your food to you. Took us a few to get an empty table as well. We order the "piglet" ($54.99), which is half portions of all their meats. It's also served with bread, pickles, coleslaw, and jalapeños. I had everything except the brisket and pastrami as I don't eat beef and man everything was delicious! My buddy ate a bit of everything and he was blown away as well! The food did not even need sauce, even though they have about 5-6 different sauces for your to try which were also really good! It says the "piglet" comes with one side and we got the mac and cheese, but it was an extra $3.99. The serving was a lot as it was only two of us could easily feed 3 people. We couldn't finish it and took the rest to go. They also have a full bar, iced teas and lemonades, and cans/bottles and fountain drinks. I loved the fact that everything aside from the food and alcohol was self serve so you didn't have to wait on already busy workers. Drink refills, sauces, to-go containers etc are all set out for you to help yourself. We're in town from NYC, staying in Martinsburg, WV but we would easily visit again whenever we're in town.

Seeing the big smokers as we walked into Monk's gave me comfort that these guys take their bbq seriously. And we were right. My wife and I ordered the ribs and the brisket. Both were excellent and had that nice red smoke ring that all barbecuers hope for. That said, I'd say the smoke flavor was on the milder side. Not a critique - just a point of fact. Maybe it was due to the kind of wood they were using. The meat on the ribs fell off the bone, so much so that I'd say they were slightly over cooked. But that's nit-picking. My real problem with Monk's was with their sides. The cooks probably spend so much time on their meats that the sides are an afterthought. We got the Mac and cheese, smashed potato, pickles and beans. Plus cornbread. Honestly, none of them were good. On top of that, the serving size for each of them was very small and they were expensive. The smashed potatoes were basically two very small red potatoes, boiled and put into a styrofoam cup with butter on top. For $4. The pickles were a few cucumber chips with vinegar and onions. Another $4. It's obvious where these guys make their money. I was also not a fan of the cornbread. It had this weird jello-like consistency. The one thing that kept coming to mind when I was eating it was an odd dessert called Turkish delight, if anyone knows what that is. If I were to come back, I'd skip all the sides and get an extra meat.

July 2022 - COVID Review: The Purcellville DMV was one of the locations that had the earliest appointment for my husband and I, so after our visit, we stumbled across Monk's. I had heard about this place in the past and we decided to stop in for lunch since we were in the area. Never would I have imagined to have such AMAZING BBQ in Virginia??? There are no words. We were recommended to get the sampler but based on reviews, we knew we had to try the ribs and brisket. So I'm here to tell you the same. The ribs FELL OFF THE BONE. That's how tender it was. The brisket was also just as tender and delicious. Definitely get the mac and cheese too. It's definitely worth the drive.

You know it's gonna be good when you can smell it as you approach. Delicious pork and sauces. Sides are hearty and tasty. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area.

I'm going to start this by pointing out that it is a local favorite for a lot of folks. But, personally, it's just not my favorite place... even as a fan of BBQ in general. Our family has tried it several times and each time are just not that impressed. First is the menu and ordering. It always feels like a struggle. They don't offer any sort of sampler or equivalent dish, so you have to choose whether you want just pulled pork or just brisket or just pulled chicken etc. and that's fine because that's how they do they menu. Each selection can be just the meat with a piece of cornbread or as a sandwich. You also get one side. Price begins at $13.99 for each of these. So for $13.99 you might get a pulled pork sandwich and a small side of potatoes. No fair Town drinks on the menu except tea... otherwise you can have canned or bottle beverages. They do have a nice selection of BBQ sauces for some variety. But if you don't have a selection of meats to sample them on, what's the point? As for her woods menu, well that's even tougher. On one hand I commend them for not just having the traditional kids choices... on the other hand, if all your child will eat is chicken tenders or cheese burgers or pizza or pasta, etc... then you're out of luck. Suffice it to say, the menu is not kid friendly which makes this tough for family dinner. Drinks or even worse. Small apple juice boxes or water are your only choices unless you want to give you kids soda. Overall it's not bad I guess. The food is okay, just overpriced for what you get. Not really family friendly. The menu is just limited unless you want to rack up your bill. Some ability to create a sampler platter would be great. If you like BBQ it's probably worth at least trying. But there are better BBQ places out there with better options/variety. And certainly ones that are better with kids.

Holy yumminess!!!! I feel like it's a struggle to find actually good BBQ and Monk's hit the spot! So delicious - we ordered the pastrami, pulled pork, and brisket. LOVED them all! Even our kids ate them. Cornbread is so yummy and enjoyed the Mac & cheese, baked beans, and spicy rice too!! We ordered to go, but the service was kind and helpful. Definitely a laid back spot that we could have eaten with our kids inside too (wasn't sure about the feel which is why we ordered pick up). The cow udder sauce dispenser is SO funny

Dang good BBQ. Really delicious meats, awesome sides, and great portion sizes. We tried the brisket nachos, pulled chicken, and brisket meat platter with custard cornbread, collard greens, and baked beans. Sampled a variety of sauces. Everything was super tasty! Service was pretty fast even though the place was packed. Critiques include the following: -they were sold out of like half the menu when we arrived; figured they would've planned better for the weekend rush -the only "sampler" platter option they have is for allll of the meats; it's far too much for one or two people, and their menu would benefit from a smaller sampler option -nachos got soggy pretty quickly; they should spread the cheese out a little more - spicy sauces not actually that spicy

Great local barbecue. Really fun atmosphere. Love the country music on Friday nights. Usually the bar is pretty happening.

My Wife, daughter and I ate dinner at Monks BBQ on 9/2/2022. I ordered Burnt Ends, Mac and Cheese. I also ordered the smoked chicken wings for the table. The burnt ends are very flavorful. Very tasty. Most of them were tender, in fact, very chewy. The texture of the burnt ends was disappointing. I order burnt ends because I expect them to be tender. I used the Carolina mustard sauce - absolutely delicious. I love it. Their homemade hot sauce is tasty but could use more heat in my opinion. The wings were cooked perfectly. The really needed some seasoning, especially Salt. My wife and daughter both had the brisket burger with Mac and Cheese. The burgers were tasty. I really like the Mac and Cheese. It's very rich, creamy. I feel the size of the side portions to be small, less than a cup. In the past I have eaten their homemade Pastrami. It's absolutely delicious. I would give an extra 1/2 star if that was an option. Based on the burnt ends and lack of flavor on the wings, I am leaving it at 3. Possibly the best thing on the menu is the custard corn bread. It's absolutely delicious.

This place has the most amazing meats. It doesn't look like much driving by, but catch a whiff of the smoking process and you will wonder where it has been all your life. The sides are pretty good, our favorites being the pot greens and Mac and cheese.

When you pull up you are immediately immersed in the smell of smokers. It's incredible. This place isn't particularly frilly and that's how you know it's good. I want to be buried in their gouda Mac and cheese. I cannot eat mammal meat sadly, so I judge barbecue often by their poultry offerings and my husband's word. The smoked turkey was so good and not dry. There is a range of sauce options from Carolina Vinegar, Carolina Mustard, House (kind of Kansas City style), Alabama white sauce, and more. The vinegar slaw was a nice light complement to the heavier Mac and cheese and to their custard-style cornbread (it is very tender but not savory, more akin to corn pudding than corn bread). My husband loved the brisket and pastrami and raved about the Monk's beans. There is a full stocked bar if you'd like a beverage with your meal. Service was very quick and prices are very reasonable compared to other barbecue places in the area. Definitely a good stop if you're in the Purcellville area.

So glad to finally try this place. It's been on my bucket list for at least two years now. After being at a winery it's a great way to end your night. They have a great selection of beers here. Also a lot of space for seating both inside and out. I love how many sides they have. I just say to get three different sides and also shared with my friends. The macaroni and cheese is very thick and super tasty. The woman at the register recommended the collard greens and I'm glad I got them. They are packed with flavor. The pastrami was so well cooked and my friend got ribs. Wow! The ribs have a peppered rub on them that is a little spicy. I loved it.

OMG.... Monk's BBQ is the absolute best!!!! Brisket... awesome Pastrami... awesome Ribs... awesome Smoked Wings... awesome Greens... pretty good Mushrooms... pretty good Mac n Cheese... decent They have craft beer, a full bar and both inside and outside seating. The bar has so much Bourbon and tequila. Like a really really awful lot of options. Did I saw really really? Like really a lot. The service was okay, but ordering was a bit awkward. You order everything at the counter, they give you a number, then you find your own table. The part that was actually awkward is that you pay when you order your food and they request a tip before you even know what kind of service you are getting. If you want beer or spirits you have to order those separately from the bar area. After you order, they also have a sauce bar which dispenses bbq sauce from udders, like cow udders. Quite cool and weirdly funny. I sat at the bar and got great service from the bartender. I also got to watch my Buffalo Bills beat the New England Patriots while enjoying super delicious BBQ and craft beer. The experience was so close to perfection. I really can't wait to go back.

Stumbled across this place when I was visiting a shop next door. Food is delicious! Staff was warm and inviting (even on a cold and snowy day). The other patrons were super friendly as well. Great beer selection and atmosphere too.

Heard many great things about this place so decided to give it a try. First thing I noticed that it was pretty spacious and had lots of seatings - inside and out. We ordered the piglet, which came with all of meat on the menu. This came with a side of pickles, slaw, but we ordered additional sides - mac and cheese, mushrooms, rice, mash potatoes and beans. A staff brings you all of the food, which comes out pretty quick and it was super delicious. They had a sauce station, which was self- serve and had about 6 sauces to choose from. I would highly recommend this place and would definitely return here again.

Overpriced for the tiny portions and the sauces are mediocre. My husband said the Burnt Ends were good. Pulled chicken mixed with pieces of skin was mediocre at best, as are the sauces. Corn bread is an extra $1 and it's more like a small square of corn paste, nothing bready about it. The vinegar slaw is a small tub of vinegar with some red cabbage on top. Our to-go order was unimpressive at best. Folks are nice and order was ready quickly, the only reason for the second star. Place looks like overhead is not an expense priority. Wouldn't get this again.

This was my thrd visit to Monk's BBQ. A carnivore's heaven. The ribs were finger licking good, BBQ chicken melts in your mouth and tasty, The brisket was yummy, as was the pulled chicken, the burnt tips were wow so good, the baked beans are delicious with nice pieces of pork and a hot sweet sauce. The pulled chicken was moist and tender. I didn't care for the grilled sausage, my companion loved it, so you be the judge. A definite go again.

Monk's catered the food at my rehearsal dinner & it was INCREDIBLE! We had countless guests comment on the delicious BBQ & sides. Their menu for catered events was huge with so many wonderful options. Everything was yummy & cooked to perfection. Love this spot & they are awesome at events!

We arrived at Monks on a Sunday around 5 pm. There was a short line to order. We ordered the piglet (I think that was the name) which had a variety of meats to feed our family of 3. The yummiest standouts for me were the brisket and chicken. Both were very moist. As for the sauces, I found them a bit sweet, but also thought the meat was good without anything which is always an added bonus. There are several smokers located outside and a pretty impressive draughht list for such a small spot. I hit the spot for my craving for BBQ. We would definitely return.

Wow, what a great place. First time here and had to try the mix meat platter called the Little Piglet (smoked pork belly, pastrami, pulled pork, burnt ends, quarter chicken, sausage, beef brisket, half-rack ribs). What a feast! We went mid-week so it was not busy at all. We ordered, got seated right away, and food came pretty quickly. May be a longer wait on the weekends. Prices were pretty reasonable. Food tasted great, tender, juicy, and had good smoke to them. Will definitely return!

By far some of the best BBQ I've ever had. This is my go to place for a date or out with friends, or family visiting from out of town. I look forward to visiting again soon! If it's your first time try the burnt ends.

Good bbq that is occasionally amazing. On prior visits the ribs had been tender but this time they were tough as leather Pulled pork was good as always and the pulled chicken with white sauce is a reliable hit. The pickles and cornbread are a must. Fantastic pickles and a creative take on cornbread. Great staff and fresh iced tea.

This place is right around the corner from us and is a true gem. My wife is a pescatarian, so food choices for her here are limited. I, on the other hand, am a tried and true carnivore and am absolutely delighted about the food here.

Got burnt ends, brisket and pulled chicken. All where great and their sauces are very good. Staff was friendly and helpful. The have great selection of whiskeys and bourbon too.

After biking the nearby W&OD Trail, I decided to reward myself with some barbecue, of which many people have previously told me Monk's BBQ serves up some of the best in the DMV. As this will be review number 500 for the place, there are plenty of more detailed write-ups, so here are my notes from my visit: Ambiance and Décor: I'd describe it as a "modern rustic chic". The interior of the restaurant is sectioned off into distinct areas such as the bar, small retail space, BBQ sauce station, and dining areas. The dining room off the right of the entrance has large picnic bench and table seating, along with more traditional tables with white and black chairs. My small group opted to sit outside since the weather was nice and we could see the pit masters stoking the fires to make the charcoal to feed the smokers. I do appreciate having plentiful outdoor seating. Food: I ordered the brisket platter since my server indicated that was Monk's specialty. Four huge pieces of slow smoked meat arrived at my table on Texas toast with a side of collard greens. While I found the brisket to be extremely juicy, I was a bit disappointed with the house spice rub. Honestly, the only real flavor profile I could discern was salt but there was a good deep smoky flavor infused into the meat. Collards were tasty and fork tender, but a little too sweet for my palate. But huge bonus for the amazing selections of sauces you can pair your 'cue with. Rather than the usual set-up where sauces come in bottles and people have to perform high-touch handling to delicately insert condiments into small sauce containers, Monk's hangs sauce bottles and customers can squeeze as much or little as desired. Much smarter design and probably more hygienic in the era of COVID precautions. My favorites were the Carolina mustard and Alabama White; but really all of the sauces were pretty good. Value: The brisket platter is $12.99 so with tax and tip (no drink, just water), I spent $16 during my visit. Monk's definitely gets a star here, since the portion sizes were generous and a similar brisket platter within 15 miles of DC proper would've costs me at least $15-$18. After two slices of my brisket, I was full and had leftovers for lunch the next day. Monk's is a great spot for bbq aficionados and will plan to come back for their live music during the weekends.

First time we went they were out of brisket and ribs which was dissapointing! The rest was good but not the best. We went there a second time after hiking around bluemont and they had brisket and ribs available! I'd come back every time for the brisket and ribs. My girlfriend loved the pulled pork as well. Ribs are well seasoned and fall off the bone tender. Brisket is nice and fatty. Great spot!

Absolutely great food. Ordered take out and it was very prompt and tasted amazing. Will definitely be coming back.

This bbq spot was highly recommended and it didn't live up to the hype. We ordered many different dishes and sides and they either came out at room temperature or very bland. Try their house sauces that will for sure satisfy your pallet. Please order the banana pudding or chocolate pudding!
