After a not so lucky visit to the casino, we decided to try our luck at the Monroe Market food court. On our first visit we decided to try American Burger Bar and Southern fry. I ordered a burger that is kind of like a Big Mac and my husband got the two piece fried chicken with their coleslaw, macaroni & cheese and a biscuit. We divided the meals in half and shared them. I'll start with the bad news. The chicken was okay but it was a bit salty. for either of our tastes. I believe they must use some kind of brine where it had to have bewn left too long. I love coleslaw but when I tasted what came with the meal, I left it on the table. My husband who loves biscuits ate a bite or two, with the honey that was provided ,but didn't finish it either. Can you guess what happened with the mac and cheese? If you guessed that we didn't finish it you're a winner! Ding! Ding! Ding! Who doesn't finish macaroni & cheese? In this case us. It was bland. I mean really bland. Okay, now American Burger Bar. My husband considers himself some what of a burger connoisseur. With that said, he thought it was pretty good. I thought it was a freakin' great burger. Even with the same flavor combinations, it doesn't really taste like a Big Mac, but it stands on its own. The veggies were crisp and fresh. The burger, which has three patties, was juicy and perfectly seasoned. I'd order this again.
On the next visit, we tried the Pit Boss station. We got the three meat plate. We chose the brisket, ribs and sausage. When we saw the sausage, it looked pale. So we swapped it for chicken. Just like the plate our feelings are a combo. The brisket was tasty, but we received portions that had been on the cutting board far too long. One piece was mostly fat and the other was a little dry from sitting. Because they weigh the meat portion, there was very little brisket to try, as you only get three strips to start. The ribs were also okay but we didn't care for the sauce. Happily, it was on the side. The Burnt End BBQ baked beans were super dry. It was because we received the very last of the pan. After our portion, the pans were switched out. There was also not one single piece of burnt end in the entire serving! I really likereally baked beans and this broke my heart. With all that said the smoked chicken saved the day! It was absolutely yummy! It was flavorful and at this point much more than I expected! I would visit again just for that chicken. On our last visit, we tried the Basil Leaf Pizza Station. We ordered the meat lovers, because we don't care for Italian sausage we selected to delete it and asked if it could be substituted for extra of one of the other toppings. We were politely informed that you could subtract items, but no substitutions could be made. Hmmmm....ok then. I am Pizza addict. I was still excited to try what I knew was going to be delicious hand-tossed, thin crust pizza with a crisp bottom crust and a top crust with that great bit of chewiness. Well maybe next time. Unfortunately, The pizza we received was really undercooked and doughy, with a squishy bottom crust that was simply a hot mess. I would have taken it back for extra cooking but unfortunately, I got it to go. You can see how pale the dough is in the photo. I don't really think I would try this again, though I'm sure it's better when cooked properly. So all in all, the total experience was very middle of the road. I will probably try Tia Loco because for some reason I've had this burrito thing going on. Maybe if I get lucky at the casino, I'll try one of the $3 cookies at Josephine Bakery. You have to love that name!
