The Best Montreal BYOB Restaurants | Eater Montreal

"Monsieur B had big shoes to fill when it opened in 2009 on the covert corner of Villeneuve and Gilford, with prior tenants including La Montée de Lait and Le Margaux. But the BYOW had an experienced backer in its corner, the ubiquitous Marc-André Paradis, who partnered here with chef Georges Blais. Look for French fine dining, as expected." - Holly Tousignant

I agree with many other commentators about mismatched expectations. The photos and presentation on the website do not match the at the table experience at all. The website gives the impression of fine dining with interesting presentation and thoughtful dishes. The prices are reflective of that, the food, atmosphere and service is must closer to a low-end bistro. There were a number of mistakes with the service: mis-timed courses (1/2 the table would be looking at their food for ten minutes waiting for the rest of the table's food to arrive), dirty flatware and dirty black finger prints on the rim of our plates (as though our server had something on his hands). Similarly, the food was uninspired, often bland and poorly prepared (under seasoned and incorrectly prepared steaks, brown lettuce). Two exceptions were the salads which were a good mixture of greens with a creamy but tart dressing and the delicious accras de morue. At the price, there are much, much better choices in Montreal.

Came here for the annual pre-Christmas dinner with my housemate. Both of us had the tasting menu. The food was great and the staff was friendly. The restaurant was a little bit small so it can get really loud at times, hence I did not give it five stars. Also, this is a bring your own wine restaurant so don’t forget your bottle!

Lovely spot for dinner; we were able to get a table at the last minute and enjoy the tasting menu. We enjoyed our meal, and the service was superb. Loved this little neighborhood restaurant!

First visit to this exceptional BYOW Plateau address in years. We opened MTL à Table week here and enjoyed everything we tried on the event’s tasting menu. Service was generally attentive.

I had their special four-course menu as part of Montreal à table last Sunday. It's a cozy byow restaurant with great service. I enjoyed their braised mushroom starter and the sorbet as palate cleanser, but the rest of the course was underwhelming. The risotto, despite being flavorful, was very undercooked and the cheese platter I got as my last course was just two pieces of cheese :') Overall, I still enjoyed my night at Monsieur B and would return to give their usual menu a try.

A+ for the service and the warm welcome. We had the 6 course meal and every bite was a delight. Service was quick ( 2 hours) and for that price, it's worth it! The decor was cozy and you have a nice view of the sector. Will recommend to anyone that loves the byow formula and a good time.

Monsieur B is an intimate French bistro with fabulous food and service. Being able to bring your own wine without a corkage fee is very nice. I would highly recommend having dinner here, the Bison Tartare is amazing!

Extremely cozy and intimate spot in the Plateau. The atmosphere is lively but also understated/sophisticated at the same time. Service is impeccable, servers are extremely professional, attentive and quick. Food is good, very much neighborhood fare. They're not trying to win culinary awards, but instead the goal seems to be to create a hangout in the evening for locals to just eat well and enjoy themselves - good portions for the mains, lots of bread, and bring your own wine as well so comes in relatively inexpensive overall compared to other spots. Loved it and will definitely go back
