Owner-chef Dutdao Wonglaka moved her beloved Thai spot into a dream Atwood Avenue building, expanding the menu with vibrant noodles, papaya salads, and Southern-leaning heat. Profiled by Madison Magazine and a food vendor for Olbrich’s Sala Thai Festival, it’s as community-rooted as it is delicious. Recent hours and ordering are clearly posted by the restaurant.

Some of the best Thai food we’ve ever had! Service was wonderful. We tried the duck, the chicken coconut curry, short rib yellow curry and (not pictured) the pad Thai with soft shell crab. All of them were amazing. Highly recommend the duck, however. Simply fantastic.

I recently dined at Monsoon Siam and found the experience to be a mix of highs and lows. The food presentation was impressive, with dishes beautifully arranged and visually appealing. However, the taste left something to be desired. The flavors were a bit too salty and overall quite plain. Despite this, the ambiance and service were pleasant, making it a decent spot for a casual meal.

Google
Surprised to find outstanding Thai food in Madison WI. Had the red squash (kabocha) curry. The curry had complex flavor that complimented the perfectly cooked kabocha, peppers and beef. So, SO delicious! …and kudos for the presentation. My daughters’ drunken noodles came in rice paper bowls. My wife’s pad Thai came in an omelette blossom. Points for creativity!

Google
The Pad Kra Pao here was amazing and easily my favorite dish of the night. The Thai Tea was rich and delicious! The Num Tok’s steak was a bit overcooked, and the fried tilapia was a little dry. Also, the Tom Yum broth leaned too sweet and needed more fish sauce and seafood stock. Service was a bit slow during peak Friday dinner (very understandable), though food came out quickly once ordered. Overall, I’d definitely come back for the Pad Kra Pao and Thai Tea — solid 4/5.

We shared - Drunken Noodles, Fresh Rolls & Jasmine Tea! Food for the soul! Staff & atmosphere always makes you smile.

Google
I want to start with what was the best service I have had in a restaurant in a long time. The staff is amazing. The spring rolls were delicious and we're very authentic. We had the Pad Se Ew and a dish called southern heat. The Se Ew was good but not in the great category. I also asked for the dish to be extra spicy. It was warm but not the Thai heat I had hoped for. For those complaining about the small/noisy dining area, I would recommend that you never actually go to Thailand because this would be considered spacious and quiet by their standards.

Google
Thoroughly enjoyed the Num Tuk appetizer and the Beef Drunken Noodles, along with the Ginger Tea! 3 family members with and we all agreed that the food and service was great.

Google
Stopped by here after going to the Olbrich Gardens and it was a lovely experience. Delicious drunken noodles and curry dishes. Large portions and service was super friendly and swift! There is also lovely outside seating for the warmer days.

Yelp
My friend told me that this was her favorite Thai restaurant in Madison, and after getting lunch takeout on Friday, I gotta say that I agree. Madison has several Thai restaurants and I've tried several of them and sadly been disappointed by their curry and noodle dishes. I ordered the pad see ew with beef for lunch carryout and their fresh rolls. My husband got the green curry (with beef) and was also pleasantly surprised by how good it was even after waiting to eat it 2 hours after it was made. My pad see ew was very flavorful and didn't skimp out too much on the meat. The beef was a little dry/overcooked but not too bad. I also really appreciated that the noodles weren't overcooked and still slightly chewy. I would definitely come back for the lunch special and also maybe to try some of their dinner items at the restaurant (rather than takeout)!

Yelp
Great Thai food! They were able to serve us quickly, too despite being really busy . We found street parking close by. Tons of vegetarian options and a huge backyard patio. Great visit!

Yelp
Really enjoyed the food here! The kao soi was especially amazing and flavorful. Service was great and food came out quick. I enjoyed the beef brisket dish, the meat was tasty. The rich in the plastic wrap got hard pretty quickly. Drunken noodles and pork dumplings were yummy.

Yelp
We came to Monsoon Siam a little after 3 pm and unfortunately the lunch menu wasn't available anymore. They did not specifically have panang curry with tofu on the dinner menu, but the server said they were able to make the dish though it would be a dinner portion instead of a lunch portion (no problem here!). I got the panang curry with tofu with a 4 out of 5 spice level - I thought the spice was perfect, the curry was delicious and not too runny. The tofu was really well cooked as well with a firm texture. We sat indoors, the restaurant was quiet at around 3:30 pm; there is indoor and outdoor seating. Free street parking right in front of the restaurant. Very good Thai food and I'm glad we stopped by before leaving Madison!

Yelp
Fast service and cozy ambience. I got the boat noodle soup and it was solid - tasted like a more peppery version of pho. Some comments from other dishes my friends got: drunken noodles tasted good but wish there was more meat, train fried rice was filling, pad Thai tasted and looked good but portion size was a little too small.

Yelp
Wonderful, accommodating staff and delicious food. We had to wait a while for a table on a Thursday evening (25 minutes), but the staff made sure to check on us every now and then and gave us menus to review while we waited. The food for our table of five came out a little staggered, but our party didn't have to wait very long before we all had our dishes. If you're trying to decide on what to order, the Thai Table is a fun smorgasbord of a lot of their menu options. It was definitely enough food for two people! This is a wonderful restaurant, and I'll keep coming back for delicious Thai food!

Yelp
I stopped by on a Saturday evening. There was a short wait. Shrimp drunken noodles was my favorite item here. Chicken Massaman cury with roti was really good as well. The spring rolls were crispy.
google avatar

Yelp
Monsoon Siam has a nice cozy atmosphere. Stopped by for dinner on a Saturday. We got there at around 5ish and it was a little busy but we were seated immediately. Service was very nice and friendly. We had the spring rolls as an appetizer. Flavor was okay, however, it was very oily as every bite had a lot of oil dripping out. I got the khao soi as my main and this was very tasty and had a good kick to it. The soup was on the thicker side. Loved the crispy noodles on top.

Jake Y.

Yelp
Great food! My favorite was the beef rib yellow curry, I was really impressed with it. The drunken noodles had the wok hay and depth in its flavor. The Thai table platter was pretty good, and I think it's a good option if you're looking for variety. The crying tiger was surprisingly good and its flavor profile was unique. I'll circle back and recommend the beef rib curry again. Service was good, the wait was not long at all, and the energy was good in there. I recommend!

Yelp
Arrived just as they were unlocking the doors for lunch on a Sunday. Our meals were very good. Nice flavors. Service more than solid (regularly checked on us) and friendly. I like too that the credit card machine is brought to the table The presentation was beautiful Only improvement would be to have my Pad Thai a bit warmer, I was wondering if it was ready before my companion's meal and cooled more than a bit.

Yelp
So, this is an open letter to the cool guy who manages or owns this restaurant. We had a really good, serviceable meal there a year ago. You spoke with us and we told you how happy we were with the food and the service. The question is, what happened? We were just there and the wait staff couldn't begin to keep up. Our food sat cold on the counter for 20 minutes. After awhile there were more than 15 dishes just piling up not being served. We were sitting nearby and waiting for our waitress to bring us the food. She finally did and it was cold. I told her it wasn't her fault trying to deal with a lunch crowd pretty much by herself. You need to staff your place with more people. You trashed what was a good experience we had by giving us a stressed out waitress who couldn't keep up. It's seriously a shame. And, for god's sake upgrade your bathrooms and keep them clean. We won't be back, but maybe we can light some fire under you to tackle some grave customer service issues. It's really a shame.

Yelp
I've been here multiple times and every time it's wonderful some of the best Thai food I've ever had. I make some on my own but definitely can't beat the flavor and the amazing put together of the dishes at monsoon saim. I actually believe I will order some to go for tonight

Yelp
This is a cute little spot on Atwood. There aren't that many tables indoors and the tables themselves are kind of close together, so dining in seems best for groups of 2-4. There is a patio out back when the weather is warmer. We arrived around 5:45pm and by the time it was 6:00pm, there were no tables left. Our server was friendly but very busy. They were not only serving tables but also preparing and handling orders for takeout and delivery drivers. Our meals came out soon after we ordered, although they each came out separately. In the end, we had to wave down another server to get our bill. Overall, staff are friendly and the food was good!

Yelp
A nice Thai restaurant in Madison! I ordered a Thai coffee and it was so good! The serving people are pretty friendly and efficient. My two friends and I ordered three plates to share and we were too full to finish all of them. We really liked the yellow curry beef ribs!
google avatar

Yelp
Came here while I was in town for work and it did not disappoint! Ordered the chicken pad Thai and I absolutely love how it comes out wrapped in an omelette, how genius! It was a huge, delicious portion - I had enough for 3 servings. I also had the spring roll, which was ok. I wasn't a fan of the thick peanut sauce. It was too thick and had too much peanut butter. The service was quick and the place is small but cozy. I like the outdoor seating in back!
google avatar

Susanna M.

Yelp
They can make the pad thai gluten free and that was greatly appreciated! The servers are so kind and the food came out fast! There is lots of seating and the portions are well-sized.

Maggie M.

Yelp
Great service & amazing food. The pad Thai is incredible! Definitely want to come back here!

Yelp
The food here is just delicious. So many great menu options with something for everyone. Slept on Madison restaurant for sure. I've truly never had a bad meal here!

Yelp
Great food, great service. Cozy atmosphere. Every dish I've had at Monsoon Siam is full of flavor.

Yelp
Cute little restaurant & easy to order take out. For appetizers we ordered the Spring Roll & Sun Dried Beef both were paired nicely with a sauce. The sun dried beef did have quite a bit of fat on it. For lunch I chose lemongrass tofu, served with a side of white rice. Very delicious I would order this frequently. With the appetizers I was able to save most of my lemongrass tofu for the next day. I also had a taste of the Pik Pow chicken it was quite spicy, but very tasty. I'm glad to have gotten a chance to go here. Service was great.

Yelp
Friendly staff, tasty food - will return again for the mango sticky rice & coconut curry!

Yelp
It's been a while since I last visited the new location. They have a nice ambiance both inside and outside. The staff are friendly and very attentive. Food comes out really fast and I love their new variety options. We had the Thai table this time and it was a feast. Enough for two people- it had a nice variety of Tom yum soup, egg roll, papaya salad along with fried rice, fried chicken, fish and beef satay. Loved everything we were served. We ended our meal with their seasonal sticky mango rice. Which I highly recommend you not to skip. I had to take. Bite before I took a picture. This place is the best Thai restaurant in Madison. If you love thai food- it's a must visit.

Yelp
First off, I am actually not the biggest fan of Thai food and I don't eat it very often, but the Monsoon Siam was AMAZING. It may have even changed my mind! The food was ALL perfectly rich and full of spices. I have had Massaman Curry before, but this was the best by far. The chicken fell apart and the curry melted in my mouth. The Cigar Rolls were a perfect crunchy appetizer that I would definitely get again. The restaurant seemed family-owned/run and the staff was very friendly. Sitting on the patio was a great way to enjoy the weather and sunshine while having a nice view of the sun beginning to set over a lush community garden.

Naomi W.

Yelp
I always heard really good things about Monsoon Siam, and it was for good reason! The restaurant was busy with some many people enjoying their food. I loved all the plating and the food tasted so yummy. Everything was seasoned so well and the sticky rice that came with the crying tiger helped make things come together. Definitely a restaurant I recommend going to if you're on the East side of Madison.
google avatar

Allison N.

Yelp
Came here for the first time today and I am honestly so sad I hadn't visited sooner!! They have awesome lunch specials and the panang curry with chicken was the best I've had outside of Thailand. Also ordered the Thai iced tea and it was spectacular as well. The service was wonderful too... I drink a lot of water when I'm eating Thai food and I've never had it filled up so quickly before. Will definitely be back to order more from the menu! Especially when the weather is nice to sit on the back patio.
google avatar

Ellena K.

Yelp
Good Thai on east side. Glad I tried it. I think I prefer other Thai places for curry. Depends on the dish here. Crying tiger and drunken noodles are great.
google avatar

Janna L.

Yelp
This place was absolutely AMAZING. When you walk in, you can see the action of the kitchen and the smells immediately hit you. There can be a little bit of a wait to be seated for walk ins on busier nights as the place is on the smaller side but the staff are so friendly. Service is quick as well. We ordered the pad see ew with chicken, drunken noodles with chicken, Thai tea, and the crying tiger. The pad see ew had wonderful flavors and an ample amount. The chicken was tender and flavorful so I highly recommend this dish. The drunken noodles with chicken was very similar to the pad see ew but the pad see ew had better flavor in my opinion. The Thai tea was amazing as the sweetness was not overpowering. The crying tiger had good flavor and the sticky rice was great paired with the meat but the beef could have been more tender. It felt like I was chewing a long time. Overall great place to go to!
google avatar

Timothy B.

Yelp
A friend suggested this place and it's been years since I've had authentic Thai food. When you walk in you can tell the authenticity is present. The kitchen is visible which gives a complete cultural vibe to the whole atmosphere, not to mention the food was impeccable. You have to try this place . I got the coconut curry (Kai Soi) it was sooooo good more than I expected. Also you get to choose your spice level and I chose level 3 . Level 3 in my opinion is a great spicy level unless you love overly spicy. Also tried the papaya salad omg. It was so good ( pic2). The service was great we were the only one sun at the moment then it quickly filled up so we knew we were in for a treat. Don't miss out on trying this place out
google avatar

Gene S.

Yelp
We stopped in before an event at the Berrymore Theater. Wow, this place was great. Food, service, atmosphere, the real deal. We are planning on returning when the outdoor patio is open.
google avatar

Dynae S.

Yelp
This place is amazing. I have no idea he I've never heard about it but I'm so glad my love introduced me! The Thai teas are so good! I always drink mine way too fast! Papaya salad was okay, I'm used to a spicier thicker sauce but it was fresh and tasty. The yellow curry (I got chicken) is on point, robust flavor and is even better as left overs so don't be worried if you cannot finish it! The Pik Pow was suggested by the waitstaff and I am grateful! An amazing flavor explosion! Some decent heat and the textures of the veggies took it over the top (I got beef pik pow). Lastly the Pad Thai... I'm a lover of Pad Thai and have been on a journey to find my favorite Pad Thai spot. Monsoon Siam has become that place for me! I am in love .. Go there now! If you're looking for authentic southeast Asian cuisine this is the place for you!!!!!
google avatar

Andrea S.

Yelp
Ordered from their food truck at loop the lake! Was delicious and loved their food truck ambiance (nicely decorated!) Accepted Apple Pay and was able to get my fill in curry vegetables and Thai tea Service was fast and excellent
google avatar

Patrick K.

Yelp
Monsoon Siam is hands down the best Thai food in Madison! I moved to Madison about a year ago and I have tried all of the Thai food places in the city and the nearby local suburbs, and absolutely no place has a better Pad Thai than Monsoon Siam. When I moved here, everyone kept telling me that Ha Long Bay was the place to go but I was honestly disappointed and dissatisfied with it the three tries I gave it. I keep coming back to Monsoon Siam and everytime it is absolutely phenomenal. Highly recommend this place!
google avatar

Jane P.

Yelp
Wonderful food, copious, beautifully presented. Loved the shrimp pad thai. Excellent service. Nice outdoor seating as well.
google avatar

Chass C.

Yelp
I first heard about this restaurant from The Cap Times and the reviews were good. This was my first time having Thai food and it was amazing. For my appetizer I ordered the fresh rolls and added shrimp to the side and it was delicious and very fresh. For my entree I ordered the Pad Thai with beef which was delicious. As for the spice of the food it was perfect because it wasn't too spicy. I will definitely go back again. The dinner was affordable and the staff was wonderful.
google avatar

Lori K.

Yelp
It was our first time at this place. It has a sweet ambiance to it. The food was incredible. We started with the spring rolls and pork dumplings....both were amazing. For entres, we had the Shrimp Pad Thai Hor Kai, Red Crispy Duck and Beef Rib Yellow Curry. Everything was so authentic and delicious! Can't wait to go back!!
google avatar

Maria T.

Yelp
Late post... Visited in November. First time visiting there; celebrating a birthday. The place is small but we were able to find a table. Apple was our server and she was working so many tables. But she served us with a smile and apologies (which were appreciated but unnecessary). Service was a 5. The food was equally top notch. We ordered Pad See Ew, Drunken Noodles, Chicken Panang Curry, Pork Belly and an eggplant dish. All were excellent but the pork belly and noodles were the stars. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
google avatar

Gary G.

Yelp
We had a great dinner with the family last night! The food was all so beautifully presented and delicious. My wife had the Train fried rice which was a huge serving of fried rice with an omelette draped over it and some chopped fried chicken on the side. It was enormous. We could have shared it. I had the drunken noodles which were very good. Spicy! Two of our party loved their curries. Another had the Monsoon fried rice which was beautifully presented in a carved out pineapple and was covered with giant prawns. Our son had the Crying Tiger, which was good but not nearly as much food as the other entrees. FYI. Overall a great meal! Highly recommended!

God's G.

Yelp
I got the "Crying Tiger", it was phenomenal! I can't even describe in any better wording. I am impressed and will be back! Thanks Monsoon Siam!
google avatar

Alissa A.

Yelp
I'm sorry, but when I get a piece of a chicken claw in my entree, it screams the opposite of "quality." I ordered this as an Uber eats, and when it arrived (w/o utensils) the food, chicken Pad Thai, was dry and rather unflavorful--if you look at the picture, all you can see is noodles mixed with light flavoring. The chicken was also a very scant portion size (Thank God?). I actually ended up ordering a different uber eats meal (orange chicken) to satisfy my palate/appetite.

Sandy B.

Yelp
Monsoon Siam is some of the best Thai food I've had in the area. We tried it it on a late Sunday afternoon and walked right in. I had heard their drunken noodles were the bomb and they were! Wide noodles in a delicious sauce with lots of meat and vegetables. We also tried a combination platter that gave us a chance to try a number of different dishes. All were delicious. My friend had a Thai beer and I tried a black milk bobba tea that was very good. I'd recommend Monsoon Siam to anyone wanting great sit down or takeout Thai.

Than Z.

Yelp
The food was good but the service was great. Waiters always checked in to make sure everything was fine. The Thai tray was unique but there seems to be a lot of flavor missing from each dish. The beef salad and Pad Kra Pow made up for the missing flavors.
google avatar

Sophie Y.

Yelp
It was pretty easy to find with street parking. The kitchen is on the right hand aide upon entering. Seated immediately; ordered beef drunken noodles and tofu Penang curry. Both dishes arrived quickly but it was chicken with bamboo shoots. Allergic to bamboo and told the waiter about this. Initially he said he'd cook a side of beef but I can't eat the rest due to the bamboo shoots. So I ended up getting a new one. The quantity is definitely small and it was too spicy even when I asked for no green chilies. The Penang curry was too sweet. Well, this is Madison and my husband reminded that we can't use the Houston standard..
google avatar

Shawna L.

Yelp
The soup I got was so nasty I have had tum yum before but this was just oily and has nothing but a few onions and mushrooms. I will never try that place again. It was so spicy I could not even Eat it. I eat very spicy food like 5 star papaya salad. The flavor was so off setting. So it's a no for me. The people I'm sure are very nice. I ordered the soup 6.00 on door dash so it was a total of about 15.00 for it. I'm very disappointed.
google avatar

Sarah S.

Yelp
Tonight was my husband and my first time here, I ordered the fresh rolls with incredible peanut sauce! I also had the Ton Ka soup with veggies, mushrooms and chicken. I didn't know it but this was the perfect meal for a cold night! i don't eat red meat, pork or shrimp but I still felt there were plenty of options for me. My husband had the Crying Tiger entree and really enjoyed it, the rice was seriously sticky! The sauce was spicy and had a layer of pepper flakes on top, overall we were impressed and look forward to going back to try cocktails and different entrees.
google avatar

Bill R.

Yelp
Just visiting Madison on a Business Trip and decided to hit up Monsoon Siam. 3 Words, Glad I Did! Extremely Friendly and Courteous Service, Generous Portions and Delicious Thai Food. I ordered the Tom Yum Soup, Pad Thai and Ginger Hot Tea. I wish I would have taken pictures of the meal, but did not. Hoping to visit Monsoon again, before I leave on Friday.

Yelp
BEST curry in town. And I've tried a fair share of places. This low/key spot has delicious apps as well! I was so impressed with their quality and the prices are quite cheap! I didn't have a chance to take a photo as I dug right in. Absolutely delicious and would recommend to anyone!

Yelp
Monsoon Siam has been our default east side Thai restaurant since we moved out of range of Sa Bai Thong on the west side and it's remarkably delicious though with their own areas of excellence over our old standby. Appetizer wise: Mrs. T swears by the cigar rolls -- they are crispy and have a balance of seasoning that make them a great start to the meal. I'm not sure if Monsoon Siam makes their own sweet and sour but if they don't they get it from somewhere that tastes house made and that's good enough for us. The one drawback is they don't always travel well if you're getting delivery (it depends on how long the driver takes to get to you). The chicken satay are exactly what you want when you order satay: tender and delicious with a good peanut sauce. As far as entrees: They've got some of the best fried rice in the Madison area along with solid entries in the standard range of Thai curries. I tend to order their chicken or pork fried rice (Kao Pad) despite my love of Pad See Eaw because, IMHO, Monsoon Siam knocks it out of the park (though don't get me wrong -- their Pad See Eaw is very good). Mrs. T usually gets their yellow curry (called Ka Ree at other restaurants) and absolutely loves it. We've also tried their Massaman curry and it's a close second for those looking for rich Thai flavors without sinus-melting spices. We often tack on an order of pineapple fried rice to share (with the promise of leftovers) as it is an excellent intersection of yellow curry and fried rice along with enough of its own flavor coming from the sweetness from the pineapple and the cashew crunch. I'll add that many restaurants tend to overcook their meat leaving it stringy, a frequent pitfall of eating out: I'm happy to say that Monsoon Siam has been beautifully tender every time.
google avatar

Hannah W.

Yelp
The chicken satay is dry. The pad Thai was ok. The yellow curry was good, but the sad news is that I got horrible food poisoning from this meal. Not worth it at all. So extremely painful and horrific. Will never eat here again.

Yelp
Very busy restaurant but they are on top of their game! Love the food and employee here (my brother works here). Jua is very welcoming and I think he loves his job! He engages with the customers (even if they're family dining in) and treats them like everyday people and not just customers. Food comes out much faster than most restaurants and they're that busy too! I love the beef salad and the one with pork and egg dish. Both are very good and enjoyed a lot. I'll definitely keep coming back! Oh! And parking is limited on the front but you can also park in the back (as I usually do) much more parking spaces. Do I recommend this restaurant? YES TO THE YES I DO! The Thai tea is very good also. :)
