Montana Lodge & Spa, La Thuile, Italian Alps - Explore & Book

"This might look like an unassuming, traditional wooden chalet from the outside, but you step inside to an oasis of cool: designer interiors with industrial-chic lighting, oversized leather sofas, quirky coffee-table books and signature resin stags' heads adorning the walls. A perfect antidote to Alpine chintz, Montana's 55 rooms are chic and spacious, with tree-trunk bedside tables, Cole & Son Woods wallpaper, glass paneling and contemporary Italian rocking chairs. Downstairs, waiters glide in the elegant Stars restaurant, and there's a sophisticated spa and heated indoor pool. Yet whilst it's an obvious choice for urbanites and couples, it's surprisingly good for style-conscious young families, too, who love the easy vibe, plus there's a playroom and kid-friendly menu in the restaurant. La Thuile itself is a pretty Alpine resort, lively in the winter but never as crowded as other, bigger resorts. The slopes are never busy so queues for lifts are rare, and the hotel is 10 mins on foot from the centre of town, so it’s very quiet: just you and the mountains. A great base for snowsports in winter and climbing, walking and pony-treks in the warmer months. Highs Skiing either side of the French and Italian borders, in the silent presence of Mont Blanc and Rutor glacier. There are 160km of slopes in the resort, a range of nursery, intermediate and advanced runs Staff are delightful, highly professional and genuinely charming; service is impeccable Inventive and elegantly presented food that blends the contemporary with the classics Swedish Haestens beds. Just dreamy Lows A hell of a drive over the Petit St Bernard Pass (closed in winter) to get here! Or go via the Montblanc tunnel. Book a transfer and let someone else worry about it Bathrooms are mostly shower-only (the Deluxe Suites have in-room tubs), but there are several Jacuzzis and a sauna down in the spa The colour scheme is quite monochrome and a little gloomy - taupes, beiges, chocolates and creams" - Belinda Archer

Montana Lodge & Spa (La Thuile, Valle d'Aosta) 3 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"It’s not every day a new high-end ski resort is simply willed into existence. But Montana Lodge & Spa’s proprietors are counting on their ability to do just that. Rather than join the crowd in an established resort town, they’re hoping a stylish luxury boutique hotel is all it will take to attract upscale customers to the hitherto humble ski resort of La Thuile." - Tablet Hotels

Montana Lodge & Spa | Best ski hotels in Europe

"Located in the shadow of the majestic Mont Blanc, this hotel is a masterpiece of contemporary Italian design; think industrial-chic lighting, tree-trunk bedside tables and stags’ heads adorning the walls. The double-height, glass-clad restaurant serves up local, inventive and immaculately-styled cuisine; for something more casual, there’s a bistro serving up wood-fired pizzas. Guests are ensured a good night’s sleep thanks to Hastern’s beds and wake to a lavish buffet that’s heaven for sweet-toothed guests, with its array of honeys, james, pastries and cakes. Beautiful & recent hotel, the corner room was large, bright, comfortable and quiet. Welcoming & nice staff from reception to housekeeping . Amazing breakfast buffet. Very good spa. Space to relax in the garden while admiring the view. Pet friendly, even at the restaurant (but 40€/night!).|Why not 5* then? Having to book your slot at the spa is inconvenient when on holidays, a lot of staff present at breakfast but each morning we still struggled to catch someone to order coffee/tea, it is not clear on the hotel website that the pool is actually a whirlpool, not a swimming pool - so is not open before 10am (disappointing as I was hoping to swim in "fresh" water before breakfast).

There was plenty of storage. The shower room was large with a good quality powerful shower. Complimentary toiletries were provided. We spent 6 nights in July, our first time in La Thuile. The hotel is located in a wonderful and very quiet area, a few hundred meters from the stores in the small center. From the first moment we were greeted with great friendliness and kindness. The facility is very beautiful and well maintained, with quality and tasteful furnishings, consistent with a facility located in the mountains. Breakfast in the morning very complete and with excellent quality products, some even from the area. Special mention to Paolo, maitre d'hall, very professional and always attentive and friendly, as well as the rest of the team. The spa is medium-sized (reservations must be made), beautiful and well maintained. At dinner we stopped only once and the quality was very good. Thanks also to deputy director Maurizio, who recommended numerous itineraries for us, both mountain and non-mountainous. Well done everyone!

Fantastic hotel. We loved everything about our stay here. The staff went above and beyond. The reception staff were friendly and helpful. Check in was smooth and fast. The room was lovely. A large room. With coffee machine and fridge. The shower room was large and modern with good lighting. There was plenty of storage room with good lighting in the wardrobes. The view from the balcony was amazing. We enjoyed drinks in the bar in the evenings. Again, the staff were helpful and friendly. The spa was lovely and relaxing again with very helpful friendly staff. Snacks and water were provided for free. Each morning, the room was cleaned, and towels replaced, coffee and water replenished. Each evening, staff came to the room to ask if we needed anything extra for the room. Breakfast was amazing, with more choice than I have ever seen. Complimentary transport was provided for us to visit the waterfalls. The evening we arrived the restaurant was fully booked but the receptionist booked us into a nearby restaurant. Great hotel whichbi would highly recommend.

A pleasant, well-designed hotel a little way out of town. Very comfortable rooms and beds. Friendly and efficient staff, but two serious negatives:|The bar and restaurant are significantly over priced e,g. 10 euros for a tea bag and and a jug of water in the bar, no wine under 50 euros in the restaurant, a plate of charcuterie 45 euros.|More seriously, at just the time that adults are returning from a day skiing or walking, the spa area is overrun with noisy children, turning the place into a playground. Relaxing it is not! Why aren’t children banned between 4pm and 6pm, the busiest time for adults? |For these reasons I will not be returning to this hotel. If you are a family and don’t mind paying silly prices in the restaurant, the place is fine, but if you are a couple looking for a relaxing spa retreat in the mountains, forget it.

Just back from this lovely hotel. Staff are truly super..nothing was a problem-we needed twin beds, had a dig needed the car charged. Everything handled promptly and very professionally. Rooms are bigger than normal, comfortable with plenty of accessories and very quiet. Breakfast couldn't have been better ..huge variety and top quality. Transport to and from the slopes was friendly, punctual and very helpful. A true 5 star ski hotel-it couldn't have been better

This is a lovely bar located within a five star hotel, with good lighting serving exceptional complimentary amuse bouchée to display the talents of the chef, good beer, wine and spirits. Well worth the visit and detour. The staff are attentive, polite and knowledgeable.
