Montana Lodge & Spa, La Thuile, Italian Alps - Explore & Book

"This might look like an unassuming, traditional wooden chalet from the outside, but you step inside to an oasis of cool: designer interiors with industrial-chic lighting, oversized leather sofas, quirky coffee-table books and signature resin stags' heads adorning the walls. A perfect antidote to Alpine chintz, Montana's 55 rooms are chic and spacious, with tree-trunk bedside tables, Cole & Son Woods wallpaper, glass paneling and contemporary Italian rocking chairs. Downstairs, waiters glide in the elegant Stars restaurant, and there's a sophisticated spa and heated indoor pool. Yet whilst it's an obvious choice for urbanites and couples, it's surprisingly good for style-conscious young families, too, who love the easy vibe, plus there's a playroom and kid-friendly menu in the restaurant. La Thuile itself is a pretty Alpine resort, lively in the winter but never as crowded as other, bigger resorts. The slopes are never busy so queues for lifts are rare, and the hotel is 10 mins on foot from the centre of town, so it’s very quiet: just you and the mountains. A great base for snowsports in winter and climbing, walking and pony-treks in the warmer months. Highs Skiing either side of the French and Italian borders, in the silent presence of Mont Blanc and Rutor glacier. There are 160km of slopes in the resort, a range of nursery, intermediate and advanced runs Staff are delightful, highly professional and genuinely charming; service is impeccable Inventive and elegantly presented food that blends the contemporary with the classics Swedish Haestens beds. Just dreamy Lows A hell of a drive over the Petit St Bernard Pass (closed in winter) to get here! Or go via the Montblanc tunnel. Book a transfer and let someone else worry about it Bathrooms are mostly shower-only (the Deluxe Suites have in-room tubs), but there are several Jacuzzis and a sauna down in the spa The colour scheme is quite monochrome and a little gloomy - taupes, beiges, chocolates and creams" - Belinda Archer

Montana Lodge & Spa (La Thuile, Valle d'Aosta) 3 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"It’s not every day a new high-end ski resort is simply willed into existence. But Montana Lodge & Spa’s proprietors are counting on their ability to do just that. Rather than join the crowd in an established resort town, they’re hoping a stylish luxury boutique hotel is all it will take to attract upscale customers to the hitherto humble ski resort of La Thuile." - Tablet Hotels

"Located in the shadow of the majestic Mont Blanc, this hotel is a masterpiece of contemporary Italian design; think industrial-chic lighting, tree-trunk bedside tables and stags’ heads adorning the walls. The double-height, glass-clad restaurant serves up local, inventive and immaculately-styled cuisine; for something more casual, there’s a bistro serving up wood-fired pizzas. Guests are ensured a good night’s sleep thanks to Hastern’s beds and wake to a lavish buffet that’s heaven for sweet-toothed guests, with its array of honeys, james, pastries and cakes. Top class spa experience that we really enjoyed. Design in bar very modern and sophisticated. We enjoyed our brief visit - we were staying elsewhere in the area but booked into the spa for a few hours in the afternoon. Afterwards we enjoyed a drink in the bar.

BEWARE -NEW CORPORATE OWNERS A tale as old as the hills - brilliant family-run hotel gets taken over by a corporate chain that tries to tap as much money out of the good reputation as they can. You can see the cost cutting across the board - worse restaurant, hit-and-miss staff, hell, even the toilet paper is the absolute cheapest you can find. Gone is the cozy atmosphere and staff that go above and beyond; especially the front desk often seemed annoyed to comply with pretty routine requests. It’s not all bad; some of the staff were great still, the facilities are top notch and the rooms are large. Still, don’t think you are getting the Montana of old (that current ratings suggest).

I spent my 50th with my wife and two sets of friends here. The hotel really made it special for us - nothing was too much trouble. The spa/leisure facilities are excellent, as is the restaurant and bar - great in-house DJ creating a really nice vibe in the evening , and sophisticated food at the restaurant. The Jeeps to take you to and from the slopes are excellent and the staff were really helpful in booking mountain restaurants etc. Definitely will return.

The hotel changed management qnd is just terrible, no longer the 5 star experience it used to be. The worst was contaminated fish that caused a terrible night to my wife. Perhaps even worse was the staff absolute inability and complete lack of care for the situation. We asked to see a doctor at 9am. No call back. 4 hours later we call and they say another person was taking care. Really? Then they say to go to aosta hospital because they do not have local doctor contacts. I am really amazed and will never return here unfortunately they completely destroyed what used to be a great place. Just avoid Montana Lodge

A lot of hotels are just somewhere to spend the night. This hotel is an oasis of calm, relaxation and amazing food and drink!. The rooms and hotel are so well thought out every detail taken care of. And the staff are incredible. Other hotels should send their staff here to learn what customer service is! They suprise you at every stage. They stored my muddy mointainbike overnight and the next morning to my suprise it came out shiny because they had cleaned it. Incredible.

This hotel is amazing! While the rooms, spa etc are of course good it’s the service that absolutely makes it. After two nights here I feel like I I have been on holiday weeks. From the welcome drinks to the way they helped us pack up and leave no one could do enough for us. We will be back (and I’m not staying any where else in La thuile again!)

This is the place you're searching for. I know it's going to be my annual end of June escape. I spent the weekend at Montana Lodge and gosh, the place, the staff, the location, the food, the vibes. everything is perfection. It's accessible, well designed, close to everything you need. I have to give it to the staff and the general manager Claudio for bringing the soul out of this gorgeous spot. I loved it and thankful for the great time I spent there!

A huge thank you to Claudio, Federica, Cristiano, Tina, Tonya, Erika, Ani, Fatima and the many more who helped make our 'special' stay the best it could be. The ski trip was disaster with my spouse getting injured and requiring to be immobilized. The hotel staff were AMAZING in supporting all our needs and going above and beyond. We had to stay extra days (unscheduled), and I know it wasn't easy to juggle the room assignments, but the Montana team made it seem effortless. The housekeeping staff was sensitive and caring, the restaurant staff prepared meals we could take back to the room (my spouse was bed-bound). The staff helped us with every need. Bottom line, the rooms, facilities are beautiful, the location is great. But what makes the Montana truly special is it's people who are dedicated to a great customer experience, regardless of the circumstances. We'll be back!
