Great location, and the hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating. However, the facility is aging and shows significant wear, making it feel inadequate for the price point. My upgraded King room was small, lacked a desk, and the AC unit didn’t function well. On the plus side, the bed and linens were excellent—very comfortable. There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance, and the bar in the building was lively in a good way, with music. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

Google
5 stars because it met my needs. The building itself is charming, loaded with cute 1920s details. Everything is clean and tidy. And the walls between rooms are solid – I didn't hear one peep out of the other guests.||I would happily return.||That said, given Montecito's posh reputation, you might expect to be pampered here. In reality, the guest experience is about the same as at a Hilton Garden Inn: basic amenities and service, nothing extravagant.||Rooms are small. If you wish to upgrade, I say splurge on the "luxury" level with fireplaces. The "mountain view" and "junior studio" rooms don't seem worth the price (I peeked in during housekeeping).||Pool and hot tub are warm and inviting. Coffee, tea, and water are available 24/7 in the lobby; no coffeemaker in the room. Yummy free pastries each morning. Staff is cordial if not especially friendly. Valet parking seems unnecessary. The connected bar "Lion's Tale" has excellent craft cocktails and food in a glam setting.

Very comfortable bed! Old-time 1920's charm and notable history. Centrally located to Montecito Coast Village Road shops and restaurants. Spacious hot tub and nice pool. Reasonably priced accommodations for this iconic hotel. I wish they had other dining besides sushi. I wish there were a full hot breakfast

Google
Look elsewhere for a good deal on a 4 star experience. Valet, front desk service, lobby were all 4 star with good service impressive decor and attached high end restaurant. However once you make it to the room you clearly see this is a 3 star inn. Interior decor is dated, old tv doesn’t work, outlets are inconveniently located, bathroom is minuscule. The room and bathroom pictures you see must be for higher end rooms or suites. Should be advertised as a 3 star inn on par with similar offerings until rooms are upgraded.

Google
We are aware it is an older hotel with history but the rooms are not as nice as they look in pictures. It feels old and you can hear people above and outside to the point where it woke us up in the morning. (Our room was on the street side) Bathrooms are outdated too. Our shower hurt and felt like a motel shower. It just definitely wasn’t what we expected for the price point. The location is what you pay for I guess! Staffing was nice though.

Google
Great experience start to finish. Location, location, location. Lion’s Tale is a fantastic hotel bar with great ambiance. Near many fabulous restaurants and shops on Coast Village Drive. 5 min away from San Ysidro Ranch. Jeannine’s is a couple blocks away, amazing Huevos Racheros and of course, adjacent to Lucky’s. Can’t be beat!

krobi316

Google
Great location. ||||Very small rooms, even smaller bathrooms. The shelves in the bathroom were not level and you could not place toiletries safely anywhere without fear they would fall into the toilet. Toilet paper and flusher were located bizarrely low on the wall so you had to reach down and around. Pillows were uncomfortably overstuffed synthetic. Pool is next to the freeway and loud. Almost every lounge chair was unleveled and rocked when you moved.||||The hotel requires that you ASK for your room to be made up. It is not part of their standard of service. ||||Incredibly poor value for cost.

Google
Located in a safe and convenient location a highly recommended spot for those looking to visit Montecito area of Santa Barbara. The staff were all warm and welcoming and you are walking distance to Good eating and drinking and walking distance from the ocean. My rating for the rooms is related to my queen sized room not having ample work station space. Otherwise, the room was clean, cozy, safe and quiet. Coffee, tea and juice along with breakfast pastries are provided just off the main lobby in the morning. The bar is a great space for a quiet drink alone or with friends. Added bonus isb5he ability to have your electric car charged onsite.

Yelp
Building was old a lot of noisy.. and staff was not as good specially at the front desk.. .

Yelp
We woke up to a very loud buzzing noise, that appeared to come from the building next door. It was really loud and very annoying. Also, when we woke up, our room smelled terrible! Maybe we were by a vent or something? It sort of smelled like sewage or burnt food. The hotel was charming, but the room experience made it so we will probably not be staying again or recommending the hotel. The staff, however, were all very friendly. If we were staying more than one night, we would have complained but as it was a quick overnight we didn't mention it. We did have a nice breakfast in the adjoining restaurant.

Yelp
It only took me 22 years, but I finally did it! I first laid eyes on the Montecito Inn while going to college in Santa Barbara back in 2001. I was 17 years old at the time and in addition to going to school, I had a part time job at an Italian restaurant just a few blocks from this hotel which sadly the restaurant is no longer around. I remember passing by the Montecito Inn all the time thinking to myself, "one day, I'm gonna stay here." Well on March 21st, 2023... Those small dreams became a reality. My wife and I took a night away for ourselves and enjoyed this quaint boutique hotel and of course all of the magic that being in Montecito has to offer. Our room was cozy, clean & simple and was just what we needed to relax during our 1 night getaway. From the Valet upon our arrival and the gentleman who checked us in, to our awesome bartender at Coast & Olive (the restaurant at the hotel), our stay was top notch and was everything that you'd expect from a boutique hotel in a prestigious town like Montecito. Located in the heart of the city, the Montecito Inn is centrally located to everything you'd want to do while staying in Santa Barbara Proper. Within walking distance to several quaint restaurants, a short drive to the beach, and just an exit from Santa Barbara, the Montecito Inn IS and HAS been in a prime location since it's inception back in 1928. Yes, you heard me right!! Nineteen Twenty-Eight!!!! 95 years ago the Montecito Inn was born and it was THE PLACE to stay. Built by a group of investors including Actor, Filmmaker Charlie Chaplin; the Montecito Inn was built to be an upscale getaway between Los Angeles and San Francisco coined the "cream of the coast". In it's hay day, Montecito was the "Hollywood" of the times where celebrities lived and played, but even to this day that tradition continues and Montecito is still called home to the Rich and Famous in todays times. So... Come treat yourself to a small part of Montecito's history and see why ninety-five years later, this beautiful part of California is still considered to be the: Cream of the Coast.

Yelp
This review is tricky. The service was beyond excellent, as is the location. Kudos to HR for recruiting and training. The staff was absolutely wonderful, thoughtful, kind, responsive, professional The hotel is in dire need of an overall. They need to replace carpets and bathroom fixtures, the musty smell is super intense. We had to change rooms and the second room had it as well but not quite so bad. We were there during rainy season, but still. The pillows were awful, enormous, with the consistency of a balloon blown so hard and full that your head bounces off it. I ended up using a rolled up towel at 3 am--- and we both had a neck-ache, so bring your favorite pillow. That said, it is adorable and during a warmer season, equipped with my own pillow and a fragrant candle, I would be happy to stay again.

Yelp
I've stayed here multiple times. Love it absolutely charming, great service excellent restaurant.

Yelp
Spilled hot coffee on myself trying to get into their antiquated elevator. The front desk clerk did not ask if i was okay or Offered to get someone to help. When I said something she simply replied " it's OK ." She was more worried about the spill than me. Totally uncaring and not helpful Also doing Major construction on roof and plaster falling into our room with the drilling. Not a good experience.

Yelp
Terrible! Avoid at all costs! Don't be fooled by their pretty website photos because in real life it doesn't come close! The room smelled strongly of mildew and it was impossible to air out with the window open and fan running. It's an old, poorly maintained hotel and I suspect there is an unseen mold problem. Jim Copus, the operations manager was an unapologetic snob who lacked even the most basic hospitality skills. We ended up leaving and not spending the night because it was extremely uncomfortable. We have a baby and did not want to risk exposure to whatever is growing behind those walls. I will have to contact my bank for a charge back since the management is still planning on charging us for the stay we did not go through with. I wish I would have seen these Yelp reviews before booking because several of them mention visible water damage and smell.

Yelp
Very quaint inn at a great location. I stayed here for one night recently and largely enjoyed my experience. The inn's location is perfect and there's a lot that you can walk to. The staff was great and very friendly. The restaurant was also nice - I enjoyed a solid appetizer and drinks one night. The only downsides that I experienced were the smaller rooms and the noise levels between rooms. I was able to hear, word-for-word, an entire conversation of another room through the bathroom vent and it was quite intrusive. Glad that the group went to bed early but it was a little awkward how much I could hear while getting ready for bed/waiting for them to fall asleep. Overall, a nice stay!

Yelp
Location is very good, but the rooms are barely larger than a closet. The bathrooms are even worse. I could barely turn around in the shower (no tub). Booked a King Room for $350/night and was stunned. Curtains were threadbare and torn. To make it worse, the elevator was out of service and our room was on the third floor. When I asked to move to a larger room I was told no. The front desk said no manager was available on the weekend. Lousy customer service. If my choice was staying at this hotel and trying to find a scary van down by the river, I'd take my chances on the van. I can't (won't) recommend this place to anyone I care about. It sucks!

Veronique B.

Yelp
I gave the Montecito Inn my review they requested, pointing out my disappointment in the dated, worn, room they gave me along with photos of the obvious damaged furniture and carpet and the lack of weatherstripping around the door allowing the noise of the main road that the exterior door faced. I stayed there once in the 1990's and believe that this room hadn't been updated since. It felt so neglected that I woke up in the night thinking there were bedbugs and started scratching. They replied thanking me for my review, saying that they would use it to improve, and and that they look forward to my return I in turn replied that obviously they hadn't read my review to think I would actually be returning Hoping to post the photos here but not seeing the option

c l.

Yelp
Booked room in March for August. Showed up at 11pm exhausted. And although they saw the reservation, they had given the room away, did not have any available rooms. Terrible hospitality, finally after an hour they got ahold of someone. Gave a room that was not meant for guests, small, smelled like wet carpet, did not stay. No call or apology from management.

Yelp
Unfortunately my mother didn't read the reviews before booking and had a good experience here years ago. In addition to the comments left by others I got bitten by BED BUGS. I know there is currently a bed bug epidemic and i actually waited to post this review to see how the hotel would respond. Rather than being apologetic and responsive, the woman my mother spoke to accused her of LYING. Don't stay here. It's not that nice and now I'm BITTEN up.

Yelp
Perfect location, restaurants, beach, weather. We love Montecito, and a couple of nights at The Montecito Inn is ideal. Unfortunately, our most recent stay was interrupted by construction. But I do understand that the roof must be maintained. And so does Jason Copus (Director of Sales and Marketing). Jason made a generous correction to our bill for our inconvenience, which assured our return to Montecito and the Montecito Inn.

Deb L.

Yelp
Sorry, Charlie. These aren't even basic standards, let alone luxury. I'm writing this review from the very room itself. I'm thinking of the hours worked to afford it and wondering what else I could have purchased for nearly $1k for 2 nights. Ok Montecito Inn, as if being met with a strong antiseptic smell wasn't bad enough, upon closer inspection, this has me wondering if the decor was an homage to Chaplin's The Tramp character. DO BETTER. OR invest in a neon monument sign that says Clean(ish) sheets and basic cable (that actually doesn't work as of the next night). I shudder to think what we don't see if this is what they are ok with presenting to the public. PS: No coffee in the room. Barbaric.

Yelp
Motel 6 would be better . This place is dingy, overpriced and small . The rooms are in serious dire need of an upgrade . The head board to the bed is dirty, the base box on the bed is worn and dirty, the paint is chipping off the tv stand and chairs in the room. The tiles in the bathroom are broken with slabs of grouting smeared over them obviously not done by a tiler .Unbelievably overpriced for what you get , the exterior is nice, the pics on the website look good but they do not match the reality of the actual facility. How does this place get away with shotty, worn out, chipped, scratched and dirty in room furniture and amenities?? Where is the manager/owner??? Your hard earned money would be best spent elsewhere. The owners need a serious review of this place and invest money into the basic of things to bring this up to par with the surroundings it is set in.

Yelp
This is the worst hotel I've ever stayed in, especially for the price and bs "amenity and meal" fees. The rooms are the size of a shoe box, do not let their social media fool you. I grew up in SB and always wanted to visit this hotel and I'm so disappointed. The walls are also paper thin and housekeeping was literally talking at the top of their lungs at 8AM this morning. Blood stains and water damage in room also. Neverrrr again.
google avatar

Yelp
Old tired worn out. From the moment you are greeted by the unhappy, untrained, unprofessional clerk it's downhill from there. Rooms are horrible for price. Rooms need gutted and start over. 5 x 7 bathroom mirror so easy to use ....what a joke x

Yelp
I was VERY disappointed by this hotel. I booked a weekend getaway for my husband and based off pictures and locations thought that Montecito Inn would be perfect. First off - the room was TINY and the bathroom was very small. The pictures look way better than what they are in reality. Our AC was extremely loud and noisy so we tried opening up the windows instead - between drunk people yelling/walking around and trucks making deliveries in the early morning we could not sleep with the windows open. Second - they don't tell you ahead of time when you book but they add on additional fees to your stay! We were charged $70 for "amenities" for two nights. Their "amenities" were: valet parking (we literally Uber'd everywhere and did not move our car once!!), the pool (which is small and the jacuzzi jets button was broken), the gym (which we did not use and is also small), and a 24 hour coffee bar (which is literally just a coffee machine that you can use). What the heck! The other fee we were charged was a $50 dining credit ($25 each night) for the restaurant that partners with the hotel. We did not go to the restaurant on Friday when we checked in so that $25 was wasted and not credited back to my credit card. We went to brunch on Saturday morning and used the other $25 credit. Overall this place is way overpriced for what it is and I do not enjoy being nickel and dime with fees that are not necessary. Will never stay here again and we will be taking our money elsewhere next time we go to Santa Barbara!

Yelp
We just spent our honeymoon here at the Montecito Inn. First off the entire staff is absolutely wonderful especially Steve the valet guy what a great attitude he has. From the time we checked in until we left the staff was excellent. Now we choose this place for its history and it didn't let us down especially the old style elevator. The bed was very comfortable and with the windows close you can't hear any street noise. The only thing that we would say is a slight negative are the bathroom are small but with that being said we would stay there again.

Mya B.

Yelp
Charged $40 for "amenity' fee. I called to ask what that is, the agent just said "we charge everyone.' Why not make it $140. That way you can make even MORE money for no reason. Also $46 of Doordash got swooped from my front door. The agent said 'we didn't deliver any food to you." The agent sucked, so does your amenity' fee. I hope that agent didn't steal my pizza. Won't be back.

Joni C.

Yelp
The rooms are fine and the location is top notch. But the attitude and service is questionable. It's hard to find someone that works there that wants to help you find your way to the ice etc. They have a $35 resort charge which includes a $25 credit to the bar but hopefully the bartender acknowledges you.Anyway, nice place. Awesome location. Service questionable. This is an affluent area of California with staff is that is entitled, not service-oriented and not concerned about your stay.

Richard D.

Yelp
Before writing this I sent the GM owner a email to address my comments NO RESPONSE so I am writing my review. READ ALL THE REVIEWS BEFORE BOOKING: We recently stayed here to celebrate our 35 anniversary. While the location is AWESOME and the history of the property is amazing. The property is in very poor condition. What makes it even worse is NO ONE seems to CARE! When we checked into our room the found the bed frame disgusting dirty (see photos). The closet door had a large scratch in it. The carpet where it went into the bathroom was frayed and a great deal of dirt accumulated in-between where the carpet frayed and tile begins. Several other items in the room were dirty. Yes the rooms are very small... But that was the design back then and adds to the charm of the hotel. HOWEVER extreme dirt... does not. I went down to the front desk and discussed with the front desk clerk and showed the pictures.. She said "oh well, I will tell the manager" I asked when they come in. She said" Im not sure". Needless to say I never heard from anyone. We made the best of our stay however we did strip the bed and made sure no dirt was present. We asked a housekeeper for new sheets (just in case). Same with the towels. If a room is dirty from what you can see.. Chances are the things you can not see are much worse. I sent an email to the manager of the property on Monday July 17th NEVER got a response. This again shows not even the manager/owner cares enough to call you or email you back. SO as one of the review that is positive says.. if you have waited a long time to book here then you are blind to the dirt. OR as you will see if you go.. the place is busy. That says the owner is milking the most they can using the historic base to charge high rates... and deliver motel cleanliness. I will say the restaurant is very nice and good service. Lets hope that stays on the owners have just taken over its management. My only comment is it seems (and if confirmed) that the manager is 24 years old. He talked of just graduating high school and going away to college. No other manager was on property. I hope my honest review helps that the hotel CLEANS the hotel and gets it to be the place we all would love to stay.

Yelp
Small rooms which smell of bug spray. Unaccommodating front desk staff. Train and freeway noise. This hotel is neither an extravagance nor romantic, just overpriced. One star for location.
google avatar

Mark J.

Yelp
Hotel is beautiful from the outside and the lobby area is really nice. Front desk staff are ok. Valets are friendly. No toiletries in room due to Covid so you need to call to have shampoo, shower gel brought up to room (That's a good thing). Also called for coffee to be brought up in the morning. The room was average at best and super tiny! Very clean but small and outdated. Asked for feather pillows and was told they were in the room ready for our stay but they were not. Wifi is terrible and unable to connect for most of the time. Bed was comfy. The room was warm and tring to keep the window open was a challenge. The bathroom also was so small and outdated. The walls are also thin as well as pounding footsteps above.

Yelp
Hidden gem! This hotel is such a great place to stay. The only thing missing is pool service. Yes, someone from the bar will take orders and deliver them to you but you have to call. There is no real "pool service." We still enjoyed the day at the pool with delicious drinks and the waiter was great. The pool is small but amazing and warm. Our room was clean and the bed was so comfortable. The hotel is in a great location with a restaurant downstairs. We didn't eat there but did enjoy a glass of wine one day. There are several restaurants around to walk to and a great bakery a block away for the morning. Staff was friendly and covered parking is easy and convenient. This is one of our favorite spots to get away to and just enjoy life.

Yelp
We stayed in room 302. The rooms are tiny. The bathroom is notably small. In our case, with the AC was set with the fan on high and the temp set low, our room was still very warm. We called the front desk and asked for a fan. The gentleman that answered said they would send one up for the next night. We never saw a fan so we asked the front desk and the lady working informed us they do not have fans. Why not just tell us that in the first place? These rooms are not cheap. At a minimum I expect AC to be able to keep the room comfortable and get a good nights sleep. Would not stay here again. At the end of the day, it's expensive and its not comfortable.

Yelp
the worst uncooperative mismanaged recent travel experience filled with unclean or unwilling to clean an overpriced small room (no cooperation to move rooms)disappointment at the MONTECITO INN Stay away! There are better options. Only good thing is their thoughtful valets guys! Unwilling to make an adjustment based on legitimate lack of cooperation & performance. Poor Management! Unhappy Room 222 (Aug 10-12)

Yelp
Great location, lots of restaurants walking distance from the hotel. The staff were all very friendly. The pool was nice and the gym had good equipment. Car valet service only and they also have universal EV chargers.
google avatar

Yelp
Really, really nice location. They hotel is older but rooms are very nice and clean. Staff was great. They have the old school elevator here. Go out back and you will found the pool and hot tub. All valet parking here. Parking is cheap compared to what I just paid in LA. Coffee and tea all day.
google avatar

Karla B.

Yelp
We had a very unpleasant stay. The rooms are small and stuffy. We woke up at 6:45a to a loud vacuum outside the hallway. We told front desk and all they said was sorry. Really? The only positive thing about this hotel is the sweet valet guy.

Yelp
Montecito Inn is a recently refurbished inn with nice decor and an (almost) great location at the end of a super lux Street - but sadly right next to the on ramp for the 101 freeway. There is onsite parking and two restaurants on property. After staying here for a couple nights, i would certainly come back. Gripes are few but we did not get the extra towels/bathroom amenities we requested from front desk after being placed on hold for a significant period. There was no complimentary bottles of water in the room - front desk said they'd be happy to send some up for a fee when pretty much every other hotel they give you a couple on the house. Also the pool is a bit undersized for the hotel. Rooms were decent sized and comfortable. Amenities included air condition a tv/cable and super fast WiFi. We had a standard double queen which sadly didn't have much of a view but did have two identical bathrooms. Biggest gripe was there was a "garbage" smell that occasionally wafted into the pool area - and indeed there is an restaurant that's garbage containers are adjacent to the pool. A shame - the inn needs to get that under control. Recommended.

Yelp
The place was built by Charlie Chaplin so yes it is old and charming. I do believe that it captures a great time period for this area. The employees at the front desk and the valets were very nice. I was especially proud of the young man at the front desk who kept his composure when being scrutinized for wearing a face mask by a inebriated woman staying at the hotel. The complementary coffee was very good as was the location proximity to the wine valley. This is a great location for anyone looking to explore the whole greater Santa Barbara area (St. Inez wine valley, Los Olivos, downtown Santa Barbara,...) and your a short 20 minute walk from the beautiful Pacific shoreline. If you get a chance walk or bike along the beautiful flowered pathway that runs parallel to the beach, you won't regret it. Also, there are some very good restaurants in the area including the one on the first level of the hotel. Breakfast from Jeannine's Bakery on the next block was also very, very good as were the baked goods. The one thing I would not do if I were to return is pay extra for the mountain view because you can pretty much step out of any room and look across the street to see the mountains. The view was not all unobscured mountains because there is a shopping strip right across the street at the base of your view.

Bernie S.

Yelp
I have been really upset about the place. I am hyper allergic to pretty much any animal hair and they allow dogs in the rooms. The receptionist checked if the previous guest had a dog in the room, that was very nice of her. But if you have allergies you know what triggers them. I wish they would make that obvious and let guest know that dogs could of been in the room and probably slept in bed with the owner. I would of spend my money with a different hostility facility. I could cancel my second night I booked with them as they probably could see that I had a bad night with almost no sleep, sneezing, watery eyes and a hard time breathing. If you look for a place that does not trigger allergies keep looking this is not the place you wanna stay.

Yelp
I'm between 3-4 stars, but I'm going with 4. The staff was all great, the girls at the front desk were friendly and the parking attendant had no issue that I need to go to my car twice for odds and ends. The location is awesome! You are right on the main strip of Montecito which has some great restaurants and you are also an easy walk away from the beach. The location itself is older, but well maintained. The architecture and Charlie Chaplin connection (original investor) all add to the charm. The old school Otis elevator with the pull close metal door was a fun pain to deal with - again, part of the charm. My room was not super big, and the bathroom was a tad cramped, but not to the point of being a problem, just be aware. I also liked that the property is right off the freeway. I enjoyed my stay and I'd definitely go again.

Yelp
This legendary boutique hotel is every bit as charming, beautiful, and worthy of a stay as you might imagine. Often times, "landmark destinations" do not live up to their legend... But this famed Hotel surpasses expectations - and is surprisingly affordable given the quality and luxury you will enjoy. For those not acquainted with its famous history - Charlie Chaplin himself had it built along with several other famous luminaries of early Hollywood. But rather than feel dated, this place manages to be fresh, modern, AND glamorously authentic and "historic"- I think Walt Disney himself is outdone in how they manage to balance all of these aspects for an outstanding Guest experience. I always find the materials that a hotel chooses to use speak volumes about how they respect and care for their patrons - and this boutique hotel is no exception. Fine white Italian marble and hand painted glazed Spanish tiles with expensive fixtures in all the bathrooms; fully stocked Nespresso machines for an outstanding cup of coffee or espresso first thing in the morning; fine linens atop plush mattresses and pillows, one of the most generous selection of channels I've enjoyed in a hotel for years - literally almost every worthwhile channel ... including some of the premium ones... And the kicker: everything is immaculate - I can't remember the last time I stayed in a hotel that felt this fresh and clean and inviting... AND - I kid you not - one of the best AC thermostat systems I've ever enjoyed - the room literally was exactly the temperature that you put it at within moments. That's very rare indeed! It's clear that the owners and management take tremendous pride in maintaining this legendary landmark. And making it feel livable and enjoyable and luxurious every moment that you're there. Bonus perks: one of the most charming pools and jacuzzi spas i've ever had the pleasure of lounging at... An old school 1927 gated Otis lift elevator - where you literally get to see the floors as you go up and down - the kids in the hotel were having a blast riding it like it was a Disneyland ride! And to boot: a gourmet restaurant literally attached to the West wing of the hotel! Your room service literally comes from a gourmet restaurant! The reason for four stars out of five is that the staff is for the most part very green, and several small mistakes were made in communication throughout this stay. Certainly nothing that ruined the overall enjoyment and experience - but definitely created some wasted moments and definitely added up over the three days. I realize that post Covid, it must be challenging to have seasoned staff, but the hotel is deserving of far better communication and overall service from the front desk and valet. Everyone was sweet and clearly enjoyed their jobs - but definitely wanting in the experience and sometimes thoughtful department. A suggestion to ownership: if you know that you've got a major national holiday weekend coming up that's already oversold, perhaps have at least one manager around that weekend...? Certainly with the staff being mostly newer aka inexperienced (in some cases - immature) - it seemed curious indeed that not a single manager was on-site Friday through Sunday... ESPECIALLY with so many seniors and children in occupancy ... Of note: Ramone did an admirable job balancing front-desk duties with concierge requests - excellent. And Paola (though not on-site for our stay) went above and beyond to ensure the stay was overall outstanding. In fairness to future guests: this hotel was built in the 1920s. Overall people were of smaller stature, and the architecture reflects this in most of the rooms. The luxury suites on the first floor not withstanding - most of the rooms are quite small, reflecting the era during which they were built. Two other unfortunate circumstance from this Historic stature - there's really no getting around this so might as well be honest and transparent: the Inn is in fact right next to the freeway. Obviously - it was built there when there was no freeway, but great pains of been taken to ensure that this does not hinder the overall Guest experience. The other unfortunate circumstance from it being such an old building almost 100 years old: sound proofing was definitely not one of the requirements in the early California building codes. This is reflected in several reviews and unless the hotel chooses to do a major renovation adding soundproofing - you can expect in most rooms to hear conversations in the hallways, in adjacent rooms or above you. These challenges aside, it was definitely one of the nicest stays I've had in the longest time - and beat out a lot of experiences at hotels far more expensive and "luxury" - This Hotel is a must-stay for anyone craving an amazing Southern California get away.

Yelp
Rude service... commenting on how drunk the guests were does not go over well when having a good time. Do not stay here if you do not go to bed at 9pm or earlier. Wanted to love it...

Yelp
I've stayed in worse hotels, but not sadder ones. This poor old thing is starved for capital, and for love. Rooms are cramped and undersupplied, hot water is barely warm, beds are under-furnished and the roar of traffic on the 101 freeway comes thru the flimsy windows like they weren't there -- all things that management could fix, if they wanted to step up. The Inn needs new owners worse than the Oakland A's.

Yelp
I have been looking forward to staying at the Montecito Inn for a long time, especially as it has been recommended by numerous friends. Unfortunately, I will never return and it's predominantly rooted in the poor service. PROS: LOCATION: The Inn is perfectly located in the heart of Montecito. This is ALL YOU WILL BE PAYING FOR if you stay here. THE RESTAURANT LOCATED AT THE PROPERTY: I am not sure if the restaurant at the entryway to the hotel is a part of the hotel or not, but if it is, it is wonderful. The staff that work the outside patio are absolutely lovely. That being said, the staff that works the inside of the restaurant are as dismissive and uniformed as the staff that works the front desk. If you want to make a reservation, make it on Open Table and skip asking anyone in the restaurant for help if walking by. VALET: The guys that work the valet are helpful. CONS: THE SERVICE: When you walk in or out of the hotel, the gentlemen behind the counter never greet you. When we checked in, it was the same story. What was the worst was the fact that despite telling the hotel that we would be arriving early as per their numerous text requests telling us to do so, when we arrived our room still wasn't ready. Icing on the cake is that when we arrived at the hotel later that evening to grab our keys, we were treated horribly by a gentleman named Ramone who wouldn't look at us, smile, tell us about the property, welcome us, etc... Both my husband and I were confused about what we did to make this man that we had never met, so upset with us. His colleague who did happen to check us in earlier in the day could have helped to ease tension, but as per every other time we walked through the lobby, he was practically hidden in his computer screen. Not sure what the staff is watching on that screen, but it must be good. Additionally, after writing Paola the Property Manager a detailed email of our experience, we never heard a peep. To me, this is unacceptable, especially for area like Montecito and a property as historical as the Inn. ROOMS: We stayed in a large king family suite. While the suite had two bathrooms, everything about the room was relatively run down. The carpets need to be replaced and there were no slippers provided. There is also no central air and only an air unit, which barely cools down the room. The bathroom sinks are so small that I had to do my makeup in the living room. AMENITIES: Outside of a pool, I am not sure what else the hotel has to offer. We also were never informed of any of the amenities, so if there are any the hotel is doing a horrible job of informing patrons of this. To save our Valentine's weekend, my husband and I decided to take a 7 min Uber to the Rosewood as our friends mentioned that the beach views and the service were unbelievable. Despite not being hotel guests, we were welcomed from the moment our Uber pulled up to the moment we left. It would be worthwhile for Paola and her staff take a field trip to their neighboring property to learn how to make people feel welcomed.

Yelp
Looking forward to a golf outing with 8 guys. Upon check in were told we were being billed for the day before we arrived. The booking was done thru a travel site (big mistake) The people at the front desk, while friendly said their hands were tied but to call Jason Copus, the owner, to discuss. After 3 days of phone calls and left messages, no response, no reversing charges. Watch yourself there....question everything if and when you check in. Never going back.

Yelp
A modern contemporary designed hotel tucked away right on the main drag in Montecito. The place is small and kinda quaint; it definitely had an up market feel although I was pleasantly surprised at the price. It was a perfect place for a one night stay while on business; not sure how the place would fair for a larger family as the room I was in was very small; I think there are suites available for a larger group. All in all very happy with the stay, extremely conveniently located right off the 101 freeway. Plenty of restaurants located in the immediate location; Lucky's Steakhouse is RIGHT next door. Oh- valet parking is $25; no overnight parking on the street. 4 stars only because of the 'non appealing ' view outside room; all you can see is the top of roofs and AC units.

Yelp
Great location and that's about it. Small tired rooms with road noise, tiny bathrooms and closets and beyond surly and unwelcoming staff and no housekeeping. Entire front desk needs hospitality training stat. Moreover, they did a bait and switch with additional fees. Entire experience left a bad taste in our mouths.

Yelp
I booked through hotels.com, so am here with VIP benefits due to having hotels.com status. That status also means I stay in a lot of great hotels, and this ain't one of them! The "breakfast" is a few pastries and some juice. Hardly the advertised continental breakfast! More like what I'd expect from a Best Western. The rooms are... Okay. Walls are thin, but the Aircon is good and the beds are nice. You really can hear other guests. There's also no room service at all here. Indeed, the on-site restaurant only serves dinner. If you want more than the "continental breakfast" the staff will politely advise you to walk down the road. The restaurant itself was really not good. I came in for a quick dinner for one, host said he'd "set it up" and seriously left me standing at the desk for 15 minutes while he dealt with various other tasks and eventually set 2 places at the bar. Then, the pasta I ordered was inedible - SO salty. And I typically like my food salty. They remade it, then it was watery and lacking in flavour. Wines by the glass are VERY expensive here, too. Overall, my attempt to have a pleasant night away was neatly undone by this hotel. 2 stars for the bed and the Aircon.

Yelp
Pretty bad. For the price paid I expected much more. Rooms are dirty, bathrooms are almost unusable. Small rooms. Way overpriced. Restaurant and room service were closed. Very loud!! Could not sleep from all the doors slamming for hours. Do not recommend.

Yelp
I can't comprehend how this place has any 5 star reviews. Cons: -We stayed in room 406, which is the one with 1 bed and the hot tub. When we arrived there late at night, all we wanted to do was go to sleep. However, there was some safety issue concerning the fireplace. There was a glass sheet covering the fire, which could explode when overheated. We called the front desk and was told that maintenance would come. He was a Hispanic man of little words. After hearing our concern, he stated that he'd been working there for a long time and no one had complained about this issue before. He also stated that it was our choice to keep the glass cover on or off, but it's supposed to be on. We didn't feel like he was listening to our concern. He seemed annoyed to be bothered by our call so late in the night and it was not a good feeling coming to a 4 star hotel being treated this way. We decided to take the glass cover off, and the man took the glass out from the room, seeing as how there was no place to put it. -The temperature could not be controlled in the room. The fireplace made the room very hot, but having the fireplace off made it freezing cold. The temperature controller was by the entrance, so we had to alternate between turning the fire on and changing the temperature setting of the fan by the door through the night. -The linens were rough to touch. -There were no amenities provided, other than a bar of hand soap. Everything had to be called for from the front desk. We stayed 2 nights and there was only 1 toilet paper roll provided. Housekeeping did not come to clean our room on the second day. -We had to call to get shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel. We also had to call for water, which should have been in the room standard. No hair dryer, no hand sanitizer nor masks were provided in the room during a pandemic. Masks were sold for $5, when they should have been provided for free. Let's not forget that this is a 4- star hotel. -The hot tub was the main reason I came to the hotel. (I couldn't find any hotels in Santa Barbara with one and all the pools are closed right now.) The jet was weak and not strategically placed, which means it wasn't effective for its use. The hot tub had also yellowed from age. Maybe an updated tub is warranted. Pros: -Reception ladies checking in/ out were courteous. The men who worked as valet were pleasant.  -Cafe Jeannie, located within walking distance, was a delight. -The room didn't sound like the freeway even though our room's view was of the 101 frwy entrance.

Yelp
I wouldn't give this hotel a single star. Okay , well if I must in order to post this and get the public to move on to another hotel in order to NOT ruin their weekend! My husband and I are here for a friends wedding. It's a holiday weekend so there is a 3 night minimum.... Okay, I can deal with that... What I can't deal with is there is NO A/C or fan in our room (can anyone say it's summertime) lol, the fridge does NOT work, and the water pressure in the shower is horrible. Definitely not a place to stay!!! We are hostage to our friends and their wedding! The discount the hotel offers is definitely not worth dealing with this situation!! We will definitely be heading out early! Keep looking, find another hotel to explore, you'll regret staying at the Montecito inn!!

Yelp
What a joke, they should be ashamed of charging that kind of money for their rooms. Dirty carpet, tiny bathroom, doors that don't close, unfriendly staff, I could go on and on. Never again

Yelp
Scalding water then freezing cold and back and forth was the shower. We had to jump in and out of the water not to get burned to was horrible. Room with a view. We upgraded to nourish view. Lol what a joke, it was a bared window with a view of a ugly roof. Situated on the 101 with all the noise, this hotel was horrible.
