From the minute I walked into the lobby and gazed at the picture windows looking out at the ocean, I knew I had chosen the perfect hotel. There is so much to love here, beautiful outdoor facilities, comfy chairs and fire pits to enjoy looking at the water, plus complimentary s’mores! A wine wall for an evening glass of wine. Loved that the hotel is right on the beach, it made for some wonderful walks and amazing sunsets. Plus we were able to see whales in the distance!|The rooms were clean and comfy, the LaVazza espresso machine was a special touch. I appreciated that the kind ladies at the front desk were always willing to give me extra pods for an afternoon cup of coffee. Thanks to Sheevani and Vivian for your kindness.|We didn’t upgrade to an ocean view room so just know you might be facing the freeway. There were two sets of curtains to block that view if desired. Parking is VERY expensive, as is the restaurant, but not unexpected for a hotel in Monterey. |I read a few reviews that made me hesitate staying here. I am thrilled that I did not pay them heed. Unless you need to stay directly in Monterey, this is the only choice of a hotel, as it is the only beachfront property.

I had a wonderful stay at the Monterey Beach Hotel, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel! The location is unbeatable – right by the beach with stunning ocean views that make every moment feel special. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and beautifully designed, offering a relaxing atmosphere after a day of exploring Monterey. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, making sure everything about my stay was perfect. I also loved the easy access to nearby attractions, restaurants, and scenic spots. Whether you’re here for a romantic getaway or a family vacation, this hotel is a fantastic choice. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Monterey!

The location is everything, you are right by the beach with a gorgeous view. The views and the convenience are so worth it. The rooms are nice and the complimentary breakfast with your Marriott points is actually a fulfilling one. It’s family friendly, couple friendly and solo traveler friendly and would recommend a night to three here.. I removed one star because there was no hot water for a while the night we arrived (though it was eventually fixed) and parking is $50 a night, which can add up if you are staying multiple nights. It’s the little things, you know..

My wife and I have lived in the Monterey area for about 6yrs.we look for great places to eat with great views and atmosphere. I work in hospitality, wine tasting, and have read and eaten at many places here that I happily recommend to visitors, and have added The Lantern Room to the list. We’ve driven by so many times and never thought to stop. |What a surprise!|Attractive lobby and bar taking full advantage of the view, easy ADA access for my MIL, all seats in the restaurant have the same view and more from the 4th floor. We’ve been 4x with friends and family for a late weekend breakfast and haven’t been disappointed with the experience. We’ve are excited to have dinner soon!

We stayed for 2 nights and appreciated very much the location, right on the beach. Nice first floor outside patio setting facing the ocean where you can relax anytime of the day or enjoy a drink at sunset! Downside for us for the restaurant, the service was very unfriendly, the older guy made no effort to be pleasant and plus I got a soaked caesar salad with under cooked chicken . Be aware of the over $50/day for parking.

Beautiful and convenient property! Steps away from the beach at a great price. |No issues with the room, or anything. This was a quick last minute trip. The look of the property is incredible and is ||CHECK YOUR RECEIPT UPON CHECKOUT BEFORE LEAVING PROPERTY||We did have an issue when checking out, we were charged a $500 Smoking fee. We do not smoke at all (Just Vape) and especially not in a hotel room. We went to front desk to inquire about the charge, and they said at 10:17 the night prior the report came in from their smoke detector. We were at a Pizza place until 10:20 so that was impossible, and we had not vaped since 9:00pm before the Pizza Place. When coming back to the room that night around 10:40 it did smell like weed on the whole property and in our room for a few minutes. But it was not us, as we had not smoked items that produce that smell or linger as long as that smell. |While going to the beach earlier in the day, there was a group of women clearly smoking Joints on the Blue Couches out back. Which we absolutely never did. |When questioning the front desk about this, they stated they hated doing reversals of this because it takes "So long". It took less than 5 minutes, and I had another receipt revising the smoking fee. I was told their smoke detectors are VERY sensitive. |Moral of the story, Check your receipts.

We chose this place for the night of our wedding, and the night after. At first this place was wonderful. Kayla was so polite and personable at check-in, the amenities on property are great, and the room was updated and pretty. However, there was an issue in their system which caused them to believe we did not have a reservation (because we booked through American Express). Hotel security let themselves into our room while we were getting married to verify occupancy, and failed to close our hotel door behind them. Upon returning, the Hotel Security returned and proceeded to try and barge into our room again. (Thankfully my husband had the foresight to bolt the door.) They were yelling at us through the door that we were "occupying the room illegally and we needed to leave" and despite me telling them to not enter our room they proceeded to try three more times. I called the front desk to report that two men were trying to force themselves into the room - and she eventually called them over the walkie-talkie. When my husband went down to understand what caused this situation, he was given a half-hearted apology and the excuse that the reservation just wasn't showing in their system. Our wedding night was spent dealing with Hotel Security and the front desk staff - reminding them that they unlawfully entered our room. It completely ruined our Wedding night, and I would not recommend this hotel to anyone because of this.

Normally I love staying here. This was my first time since the renovations and new ownership. Nice room upgrades, however they do not offer coffee which was a lie they said in the brochure. The coffee they do offer is in the restaurant for $6 for a small cup. Some of the most disgusting coffee I have ever tasted. The fire pit in front of our room didn't work. They no longer have cornhole, replaced with saunas that were unusable. Nice place to stay but definitely no longer worth the price.

Yelp
Pros: wonderful view I think it's overpriced. They need lower rates if they are going to continue to provide what they have. The room was ok. The shower is small. We didn't have any hot water at all. I called and asked about that and they said that they were under construction at the moment and that the hot water would return to normal an hour later. It did not return to normal. The pillows are stiff and our bed dipped in the middle. The lounge bar was ok. I do see the bartenders being a little overwhelmed considering how long it took to get the drinks, the quality of the drinks, and the fact that they didn't look like they wanted to be there. We got an aperol spritz & a specialty cocktail. 43$. The windows in the lobby were dirty from the outside which obstructed the view. There is like a lounge area in front of the front facing rooms at the bottom and it is so dirty!! There was trash everywhere and bird poop on the couches. It looked like some of them had cigarette burns on them, Would I stay here again? Probably not. I could not imagine paying 300$ more for an ocean view and have the same experience with the hot water or the bed. The restaurant was ok. The support staff was nice. Our server was seemed uninterested in serving us considering he had a 12 top. He should have checked in more. Felt like a cash grab!

Yelp
The hotel has been renovated and really has great views from the lobby and bar lounge area. We have stayed here twice. The rooms are fine but no desk or area to sit down and do makeup and the toilet shower area is very small. Sink and counter is in main room. We had a drink at the bar early evening and that was my biggest disappointment. We sit down and the female bar tender was making some batch mix and said to us "can I help you with something "? Like yeah, maybe a drink. It was the weirdest way she said. Not friendly at all to customers but chatted away with a fellow worker. Just plain rude. Overall I like the place, bar was biggest complaint. Did not order food.

Yelp
We were looking for a place to stay that was family friendly during the day and somewhere we can relax in the evening and this place was it! First off, I called to confirm our Ocean View room and possible rollaway bed for our child and spoke with Dustin. He was extremely helpful and made sure everything including early check in (due to the availability) was ready for us upon arrival. From that point on, our stay included meeting so many people who worked there that not only were helpful and friendly, but truly enjoyed working there- must be the beautiful ocean views! The room was updated, its on the more cozier/smaller size, but our huge window overlooked the ocean and you can literally hear the waves throughout the property. They have been updating spots, such as the sauna and cold plunge area which is set to come soon. Upon arrival, we were reminded of the $50 parking rate and the $25 resort fee. The surprise was we also received $75 credit for wine and non alcoholic beverages at the bar for their very own complementary happy hour from 3-10pm. I especially enjoyed their lovely smores kits they would give out after 7pm to use at the many fire pits overlooking the water, a very nice touch for everyone! I would say the only suggestion I would make, which I brought up while I was there, was that there needs to be more coffee available, not just the pods in the rooms. There is a restaurant on the 4th floor, but sometimes they can get busy, but a quick drink would have been clutch. I was told that during the weekends they do provide coffee in the lobby, hopefully they can extend that to the weekdays at well. We are definitely looking forward to sharing our experience with our family and friends, and hopefully coming back to stay soon. The hotel is literally a 6 minute drive from downtown, but in my opinion is much more relaxing and beautiful. I would like to especially send my gratitude as well to Owen, Alex, and Vivian at the front desk who were always so kind and ready to assist with anything! It was always a pleasure seeing them! Dennis at the restaurant in the evening was so kind and allowed us to have a very delicious meal, much appreciated!

Yelp
Only beach property in Monterey. Great Pacific Ocean views. Beach with sitting area and fire pits. Rooms with ocean view are more pricey than garden view rooms. Lobby overlooks the beach. Bar and restaurant on property. They charge $51 for car parking. It's self parking, not valet. Check in process could improve.

Yelp
This hotel has breathtaking views. Check-in was a breeze. Alex was super nice and helpful. He provided me with the list of vamenities and perks they offered. Campfire kit to make smores. They also give $25 credit/person towards self-service wine or mocktail. This was just to name a few. Our room had the perfect view of the beach and you can hear the waves in your room. The weekend we went it was pretty chill, people weren't super loud. It seemed like a lot of families come here as well. The room had a welcoming and homey vibe. The bathroom/shower was a little small in my opinion. You had enough space to open and close the door. Where you place you soap and toiletries was blown out. You attempt to place anything on the tray and it just falls down. They provide shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. The shampoo was no longer mounted on the wall and was on the floor. Everytime you flushed the toilet it made a loud noise that made you think the water was going to keep running in the toilet but finally shuts off. The bed was worn out, you sit on it and you feel and hear the bed popping. Pillows were super flat. Like you could stack 2 or 3 and there was no difference. I wasn't aware they allow pets here. So even when they clean the room the hairs are still there. I'm allergic to cats and dogs, so my allergies were super bad. The area itself was nice and clean, the parking lot seemed safe. I definitely took advantage of the self service wine and mocktails at the bar/ lounge. We also made s'mores which was a nice treat that I haven't done in a long time. I walked the area and was surprised to see like an outdoor sauna. It was super cute but it looks like it was still new and not set up yet. The pool was clean. I tried looking for the ice bath/tub and couldn't find it. I didn't know until the last day that the gym/ fitness area was in a separate building that looked like a restaurant from the outside. From the outside, the lantern room didn't look to inviting. This is a restaurant they have on the 4th floor. They don't open until 5pm. I tried looking for a menu but they didn't have anything displayed. Online it only showed a breakfast menu. So clearly there's a disconnect somewhere. Overall the experience wasn't bad, it was a little too pricey in my opinion. Various reviews said it was updated since Marriott took over but it looks like they're not fully done yet. They definitely, need to maintain a lot of the rooms. The one we stayed in was 260. The views and the convenience of the beach was nice but I don't see us coming here often. You may get lucky and get a package deal with Marriott where the room price includes parking or discount on drinks, but $450 a night is still pretty steep.

Yelp
Exquisite! Beautiful, private and excellent accommodation. Minutes from the Monterey bay aquarium/downtown. The beach is steps away from the property. The pool is heated and there is also a jacuzzi. The price is also relatively ok if you find a good deal. They offer 2hr e-bike for free and also offer free s'mores for kids and free glass of wine for adults!! Highly recommended !!
google avatar

Tiffany W.

Yelp
Rooms are cozy and clean... great view and sounds of the bay. Smores available for roasting free E-bikes available for 2 hours free Wine tastings available for free The one downside is the air/heat unit gets loud at night, it woke me up.

Yelp
Worst stay at this hotel! Paid good money to stay here on our anniversary. They put us in a room under the walkway. All night all we heard was foot traffic with people coming in and out of the lobby. In the morning they replaced the glass door at the entry of the hotel. Why would you place us in a room if there was a door being replaced right above us!? We woke up to loud banging and drilling. Hotel staff is rude and unhelpful. Would not recommend staying here at all! There's a ton of other options to stay, don't waste your time here.

Yelp
The other reviews are accurate about the plusses and minuses of this hotel. This place has a great location, right on the beach. It's lovely to hear the ocean, gently, from the room at night, and it was very quiet after 9 or 10 pm. FYI, that same beach stretches south and quite far north of the hotel's private beach area. Lots of public parking and access, so there's plenty of ways to enjoy the beach without being a hotel guest. North of the hotel, there's even a lifeguard for the public. If you are reserving a ocean view room, the first floor has partial ocean views. The plus of the first floor is you have two chairs of your own to sit outside, but there's a half high sea wall and lovely group seating right there too, so the ocean view is mildly obstructed. Floor 2 and above have no obstruction to the ocean view and you can still use the first floor seating area anytime. You might not know which floor your ocean view room is on until checking in, even if you ask for a "higher floor" on the reservation. Everyone needs to know that there will be $150 to $165 extra additional fees to the room charge daily, as that might affect some folk's budget. It makes the stay pretty expensive. Even if you select your reservation price quote to include fees and taxes, not all charges will show up. If you stay here, go to the Meatery for lunch. Amazing sandwiches or a dinner to go and just a few minutes away. Monterey Fish House also just 5 minutes away for dinner. We always meet locals there who end up chatting with us and having a good time.

Yelp
Great beach location with relaxing sounds of waves all day and night. Quick hop and a skip and you're there. Nice outdoor area for a fire and relaxing. The hotel is nicely renovated with a modern rustic beach theme and features a nice restaurant, plenty of lounge seating, a nice gym and sauna/ice bath. Most of the staff is friendly (housekeeping, restaurant servers, room service support)... female bar tender was not so helpful until she realized she was made a mistake and the front desk gal in the a.m. sounded burden and irritated each time we called or were st the front desk . Rooms were really comfy and bright. They offer a handheld steam device instead of an iron and have a mini Lava coffee station. A streaming TV is avail and selectivity electronic plug featured with the bed headboard (win!).

Yelp
We've been guests here on multiple occasions as one of our standing traditions in celebrating our anniversary. At least 5 stays if not more. Not this year! $580!!!!!!! For ONE night. We love the bonfire on the beach but the rooms are basic and a bit rundown as are the grounds. It's nowhere near worth $580 for one night where we can light a fire for a couple hours. We've never paid that and we've always had ocean view rooms. Sadly this will be a pass until the rates go back to a justifiable rate.
google avatar

Timothy T.

Yelp
Service is fair, nothing top notch but good enough. Rooms are great and would definitely stay again although the pilows are super flat, i folder them like a ham to get more height. Besides that, the garden room was a total vibe and a great experience for my family. They had nice touches, $25 drink credit, bikes to ride, smores, and something else. These subtle things made the stay extra unique. The snacks and drinks available to purchase are cool, nice small selection of local beers. Typical hotel pricing. The lobby and lounge is a great spot to hang, just lounged there for hours and relaxed, overlooking the ocean!

Yelp
We absolutely enjoyed our 1 night thanksgiving getaway. My uncle used to work here back in the 70s . The Marriott did a great job renovating this very cute and contemporary/beach design. The beach view is the best and there is hardly anyone on the beach. Maybe it's different in the summer time.
google avatar

Frank T.

Yelp
Great Marriott hotel. They just renovated an old resort hotel and did a great job. Marriott does this better than all other big brand hotels in MHO. The elites get great deals with rooms with ocean views. Fire pits everywhere, wonderful finish saunas, pools, etc. and for the price and location i am sold. Great job Marriott.

Yelp
Monterey Beach Hotel, located in Monterey, California, offers direct access to beautiful beaches and scenic ocean views. Known for its coastal charm, the hotel provides comfortable accommodations, including rooms with ocean views, and amenities like a restaurant, bar, and event spaces. It's ideal for visitors looking to enjoy the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Cannery Row, and nearby nature reserves. Many guests appreciate the relaxing beachfront location and proximity to local attractions. The hotel is popular for beach weddings, romantic getaways, and family vacations. Since they just reopened with newly renovated under new management, with Marriott Bonvoy group, it's quite nice. Our front desk Alex was great, polite, and made us feel very welcome. Solid amenities here, Italian soap and bath stuffs, non fire from 7-8 PM, dog friendly, and chill vibes. It's not a luxury hotel, but it's as good as it gets. Note: if you the ocean, it's perfect. If you don't, the noise of the wave will be an issue if you are a light sleeper.

F S.

Yelp
Bar staff - particularly the waitress with short hair was so rude and off putting for a beach front lounge. First when we were hanging out in the lounge she told us and several other customers to not move furniture at all. All we had done was turn a chair to see the view. Then she would tell others to keep their feet off of things, like it was her own home. Then, she brings her kid to work- which I am all for - and the kid is making noise and roaming around without shoes. As if this is his home. The kid isn't the issue, it's the total disconnect in what she's telling others who are making themselves comfortable and how she's using this space. Finally, she was on her phone and chatting away with the bar staff and hardly ever tended to us or other customers. I had to get up to ask for a menu. And had to get up to order. While they are supposed to tend to tables. Even when the place was at 10% capacity. Yikes!

Gio N.

Yelp
Do NOT stay here Worst service Did not clean our room for two days Gave us a broken crib Made us feel uncomfortable and out of place with bar and restaurant staff being brash
google avatar

Anissa C.

Yelp
The hotel is going through some renovations so during the day it's loud with construction it's closed to the freeway so you hear the freeway noise.make sure you book the ocean side and definitely not a room by the pool area. They have a restaurant which is very expensive. They have a full bar and they give you complimentary wine tickets, the rooms are nice. The front office staff is very friendly. I would stay here again for the ocean view and for some of the amenities.
google avatar

Cinthia S.

Yelp
Had such a wonderful time and we were so happy we were able to bring our two fur babies. It was so relaxing and quiet for the most part. I love that we had the option to sit inside or outside in front of the ocean. Such a relaxing couple of days hoping to come back soon!
google avatar

Brenda S.

Yelp
We had just been in our room for less then hour when we found dirty undergarments on the couch. We called front desk to report issue and staff was laughing. Extremely unprofessional, we were applaud at the response. We asked to speak to the manager to complain, the staff transferred us to bartender. Husband called back and said this is not acceptable and he needed to talk to manager. All managers went home so we will wait for a call tomorrow. I would highly not recommend this place, merely because if the cleaning staff can't see dirty garments on the couch , how clean are they cleaning your room. If the front main reception staff is laughing and no manager is on premises. Who's running this place. Is this a dressed up Motel 6 ? Very very upsetting situation.
google avatar

Yelp
Paid a good amount money for an ocean view for two nights for my 15 year anniversary wanted a romantic weekend but instead we just checked in and were told are room had a plumbing issue and the had no more ocean view rooms the gave what I feel is the worst room in they have with a 200 dollar difference per night between the room I booked and the room I got I'm very irritated I feel like Iost $400 and they gave me free parking wow we were so excited about this hotel and it was such a disappointment so far I don't even think I will return to this hotel
google avatar

Yelp
Dustin was so welcoming, informative, and sweet. We arrived a little agitated from a long drive with my family of 4, but Dustin's demeanor and reception turned things right side up immediately! The views are incredible. The restaurant is top shelf, such delicious food (even the kids menu!). The room was nice. We had an issue that was resolved promptly which was nice. Parking was easy. Beach access is as easy as it gets. Lots of beautiful wildlife and scenery. At night, the waves crashing on the shore serve as white noise. Worth the $. Would stay here again.

Tom S.

Yelp
I paid for what I was led to believe a room where you could both see and hear the ocean. That is what the marketing info presented. Instead I got a view of the freeway and Home Depot. Airbnb has been zero help. I've been ripped off for $1,000 which is what it cost to have a view of the freeway and Home Depot.
google avatar

Nancy P.

Yelp
We loved our stay! Upon arrival, we were a little annoyed to have to pay $45 to park for the night but they provided us with $25 for free wine in the lobby and a free smore making kit. The views were incredible and the rooms were very clean and updated. The location is hard to beat- right on the sand. Def coming back!!
google avatar

Yelp
Room 138 don't stay in it... they move chairs up above for hours on end slamming things around and the manager will not do anything about it

Donnie M.

Yelp
Easily one of the worst hotels I've ever stayed at-- and this is speaking as someone who travels extensively for work and pleasure. The hotel used to be a motel, and it clearly shows once you look past the interior renovations-- old on the outside, with service level that you would expect of a motel and not a $$$$ priced hotel. As other reviews have noted, housekeeping is spotty, and the hotels purported environmental focus is offset by issues with trash, water bottles, cleanliness, and noise. Either spend less money elsewhere for a better value, or try the Hyatt, Intercontinental, etc if looking for a more high end hotel experience-- any other option would also be in Monterey itself and not outside city proper.
google avatar

Amanda M.

Yelp
We were unsure about this place when we booked it since pictures can be deceiving (iykyk) but it truly is a gem!! We booked for one night for a title getaway from Sacramento Sunday into Monday and we can't wait to come back. From check in (Owen is fantastic and deserves a raise! He took such great care of us) to amenities to proximity to the views... we highly recommend this hotel if you are not extra boujee and not too cheap... it's not a Ritz but it makes you feel like your in one at a much better price. Thank you for making our short getaway a little slice of heaven.
google avatar

Patrick Y.

Yelp
Horrible experience started from the moment of check-in. They would not check us in or provide a room key until after 4:30pm despite the listed check-in stated as 4pm (and check out at 11am... you need 5 hours to clean the room?). The room that they placed us in on 3rd floor was directly below the kitchen / restaurant on the 4th floor. So we heard banging from kitchen until 11pm at night, which restarted at 6:30am for breakfast service. On top of it all, they charge you a huge 'resort fee' for terrible internet, and a parking fee as well. All in all, this was the least relaxing hotel stay that I can recall in years. Will not come back and recommend you spend your money elsewhere.

Russell S.

Yelp
Bait and switch. At least half of their hundreds of rooms are oceanfront. Confirmed oceanfront reserved many weeks ahead, 2 hrs before check-in they called and said 10 rooms had maintenance issues and only offered garden view. Can get garden view anywhere in Monterey at a small fraction of cost. Never again.

Hopespringseternal M.

Yelp
The hotel structure and amenities are motel style. Front desk is friendly enough but even though we told them our shower gel was empty, they did not replace it. The rooms are TINY. the bathroom in particular is a closet, with no sink in the bathroom. The sink is outside the bathroom. The toilet flushes very loudly, and the walls are paper thin. The rooms open up to a motel style wraparound balcony overlooking a noisy construction area. The restaurant is amazing, the lobby is well designed too. I am not sure how often they clean the windows overlooking the ocean as they are covered in bird poop. The motel is right on the beach, and the provide a s'mores kit for kids. This place is way overpriced and the Marriott affiliation is deceptive if you think it will be like other Marriott properties.
google avatar

Tim Y.

Yelp
Lack of maintenance on their beautiful patio area. Covered in bird poop makes it hard to enjoy. Still I recommend this place to guest for the interiors , restaurant and views.

Yelp
View - 5 Ambiance - 4 Food - 3 Service - 2 Dogs barking constantly - 0 Lip service - 0 The view at this hotel is fabulous as is the ambiance and the view from the lobby. That's where the magic ends. The food is mediocre and overpriced, but you'd expect that at a Marriott. However, it continues to spiral down from there. The service is below par as we wait for our rooms (two families) with no offer for a drink or appetizer while it's approaching dinner time and still no room despite my reservation a month ago. Lip service is a fine art this Marriott has perfected. For several days I have been asking for my room to be cleaned. I'm told it will be done shortly. 48 hours later it still has yet to be done. Lastly, the dogs. There are the most rude dog owners allowing their beasts to bark continuously and uncontrollably. People are clearly annoyed and no staff member has asked them to either quiet their dog or go outside. A very generous 1 star.

Yelp
I mean I don't want to write this because I don't want any of you freaks to come here... LOL! It is affordable, on the beach, now a Marriott, staff is excellent, and it is just awesome. First a shoutout for Vivian and really all the front desk staff and housekeeping for a great stay and always a smile. Then Kimmy the server in the front restaurant she was all smiles and just a great energy. Plus, Tori/Jodi darn it I forget her name serving me breakfast on the awesome 4th floor restaurant. She took care of my weird order where I had to bring food to my wife. Thank you! OK I will add easy parking, tesla charger, safe, beach access with fire pits, smores at night, dog friendly and when I say dog friendly everything is dog friendly except the 4th floor restaurant. The gym is missing some equipment but very spacious and nice. You can go for a long walk on the beach or the path that goes along the dunes. There is wonderful outdoor seating to watch the sunset and soon there will be a cold room and a sauna room for more health benefits. We did not use the pool and hot tub but it has that too. OK if I had one complaint at all the beds do not seem to be as new as everything else. One of our two bedded room beds was a bit wonky and the other was pretty soft or felt worn in a bit. We will be back but you don't need to come here. Leave this for us! Have fun!

Yelp
Stayed here in mid October with my family for 2 nights. This place is a gem. It is located beachfront with priceless sunset views. The hotel room was modern, fresh and clean. The beds and pillows were comfortable and the sound of the ocean waves crashing from our room was soothing. The parking was 45/night but was convenient and a short walk from the front desk and rooms. The hotel charges a $25/night destination fee in addition to nightly tax; however, the is a daily $25 credit for wine from the wine wall aka wine vending machine. Also included is a free 2 hour per day bike rental for all registered occupants of the room. Our stay was fabulous and looking forward to visiting again.

Yelp
The Monterey Beach Hotel's location is absolutely beautiful--it's right on the beach with gorgeous views. It's a peaceful place to relax and enjoy the ocean. That said, I was disappointed by the many fees added to the stay. There were many different types of fees, plus taxes on some of them: Occupancy Tax CCFD Special Tax MCTID Destination Amenity Fee Destination Amenity Fee Tax Parking Fee Parking Tax Pet Fee Pet Fee Tax They were unwilling to waive any non-city-required fees, even when asked, which made the total cost much higher than expected. Poor soundproofing--the ocean waves were so loud at night that it was hard to sleep. It wasn't a peaceful background sound--it felt overwhelming. The mattress was noticeably sinking and uncomfortable, making it difficult to get a good night's rest. The bathroom had a leak, which made things feel less clean and maintained than expected. While the view is gorgeous, the combination of extra charges, noise, and room comfort issues disappointed us. This stay, sadly, didn't live up to its potential.

Yelp
Everything - remodel is amazing. Front Desk and wait staff are amazing - Josh, Kimmy, DJ, Reuben and Dennis.

Yelp
The hotel is great, but unfortunately, Dustin, the Rooms Director, needs improvement. We had booked an ocean-view room, but the hotel was overbooked. When I asked to speak to the manager, Dustin was disrespectful, giving orders over the radio and arguing with someone while trying to address my concerns about the room. After waiting for him to offer a solution, he moved us to a garden-side room and promised to transfer us to the ocean-view room first thing in the morning. The next day, when we approached the front desk, Vivian and Shavanni were unaware of our room reservation. There were no notes or messages about our room transfer. We requested to speak with a manager again, hoping to avoid Dustin. Thankfully, Guillermo came to our rescue. He listened to our situation and immediately got us the room we had originally booked within minutes. He also helped us with our luggage, offered us a discount on parking and other fees, and provided a $50 credit for the restaurant. Thank you, Guillermo, for solving our problem when someone higher up could not. Please pass this message along.

Yelp
0 stars if possible- we are Marriott Bonvoy Titanium members and this was one of the worst hotel experiences we have had. The hotel does the bare minimum in every aspect: - No complimentary water in the rooms, only refill station in the lobby (which can be far from your room) if you brought your own bottle or want to buy their (small) $9 pathfinder bottles. Complimentary water has been standard at every other Marriott property we have stayed at domestically and internationally-- and those with refill stations give 1-2 reusable bottles - so stated another way, they have turned their environmentally conscious initiative into a way to fleece customers on water bottles - No housekeeping services during our stay despite our repeat calls to request it during the daytime when we noticed this (by 8pm we just called to request towels since no one came) - Speaking of housekeeping: when we arrived there was hair in the sink area - Bonvoy elite breakfast was minimal- croissant, fruit, coffee. Marriott hotels of this tier offer either a more complete breakfast or F&B credit in their breakfast restaurant - Public trash cans located in only 1 area; given lack of housekeeping above this was very frustrating - Poor design of light in bathroom- motion based so every time you shower light goes out on you While property is beachfront, it also very much feels like an old motel with basic renovations and a paint job. And service isn't much more than a motel. It's clear the management/ownership prioritize the bottom line rather than the quality of experience. We have stayed previously at the Marriott Monterey which was much, much better in every aspect.

Yelp
I bought a voucher through Groupon and they still charged my credit card 720 dollars on top of what I spent and called it a fee. I had to dispute this with my bank. The hotel was not as nice as the pictures either. Don't stay there.

Yelp
One of the worst Marriott hotel experiences I've had. I am a Gold Elite Member and unfortunately I bought a deal through TravelZoo thinking it would save me some money and still have the same "Marriott Gold" experience, I don't think booking through my AMEX would've made any difference either. At initial check in things went okay, we had an ocean view room but once we got the room things unraveled; the window curtains were broken, the faucet handle in the sink kept coming off, also no water provided in the room. I checked in with a pet, and no water? I called the front desk and no answer until the 3rd or 4th attempt, they said they would send someone down, no one ever came. The thermostat is not connected to the actual AC unit and we were never told, until the maintenance guy made us aware that was the reason why we had no heat- our room temperature was 64, which for the type of weather was cold. We asked for a dental kit and none was delivered. We had to call the front desk again in the evening once we were back in the room and the maintenance guy was more helpful than anyone in the front desk. The bartender gave me water bottles and a doggy bag, which she said was supposed to be provided for my pet at arrival, go figure. Then on my second day I got charged another fee on the credit card that I paid the Travelzoo deal with, I had to walk up to the front desk to ask about it because they never answer their phone: accidental system charge was the reasoning. No one ever answers the phone at the restaurant, we were told they would be open for NYE, they were but had a prefix menu and I couldn't even order a chicken breast for my dog, I was told I had to walk down to the lobby bar and request it there. My Travelzoo deal came with a s'mores kit, we never got it. I have to say, for a "newly" remodeled hotel; understaffed, lack of customer service or care for customer priority. Really disappointed.

Yelp
Booked a 1 night stay here while I'm in the area for business, based upon a previous recommendation from a co-worker. Upon arriving, it was immediately frustrating to find a parking space as they are doing construction on their parking structure so there were almost no spaces left in the very dark parking lot by 7pm on a Tuesday. As other reviewers have stated, this is a dressed up motel, not a hotel, despite the name and Marriott ownership. I am a Marriott elite member and was told they had no upgrades available upon check-in so the front desk agent kindly gave me $25 additional on my "complimentary" $25 wine card to use. Unfortunately, because I was by myself, and here for work, that didn't help me as I needed to get to bed early. Got to my room and it was cute- clean, nicely decorated(albeit cheaply), and DS+Durga body toiletries in the bathroom(will never understand how they pulled that one off) -I will say they did a decent job of upgrading the rooms and they look nice with decently comfy beds. The room smelled a bit musty(you can tell it's an old place) but not enough to bother. My biggest gripe with this "hotel" is the lack of sound proofing! Unfortunately, I was placed in a room facing the freeway so I was lucky enough to listen to the noise of cars, sirens, etc all night long. It was just as loud with my door open as it was with it closed. The wooden walkways and stairs cause even more of an issue with the sound as every person walking by, talking, or rolling luggage sounds like they are INSIDE your room. Additionally, the heater was a bit wonky...I turned it up in my room and it initially began to warm the room but then began to blow cold air, so I ended up turning it off. Overall, the beach access is lovely, but if you have any issues with noise, do NOT stay here. For the price they are charging for these rooms, I expected MUCH more, especially from a Marriott property.

Yelp
Just wanted to take a second to give a special thank you to Kym in the bar area! My husband and I have been frequent customers since they completed their remodel. My husband and I are both in hospitality and I find it tricky to get him to want go to a restaurant that he enjoys. He frequently would prefer to cook at home. We love the view and really enjoy the burger and Caesar salad but really it's Kym that we go for. From the first time she waited on us, she has been nothing but kind and provided us with the best service and hospitality that we have received in the area. As time as passed, she now greets us with a big hug and a huge smile and is filled with nothing but grace and kindness! We unfortunately went one night on her day off and although we enjoyed ourselves, it just wasn't the same. Do yourself a favor and enjoy the view, but more importantly, enjoy the hospitality from Kym in the lounge area!!!!

Yelp
DO NOT GO HERE!! FRAUD!! Management charged our credit card with multiple fraudulent charges after checkout. We recently stayed at Monterey Tides. After we vacated the room, my credit card company notified me of four charges to my credit card from Monterey Tides. The four amounts were charged by Assistant manager Lauren Reichert $284.49, $152.58, $285.00, $200.00. We paid for hotel via 3rd party reservation site, therefore, I only authorized the $200 deposit for incidentals such as parking and on that I was expecting a partial refund. I immediately called the front desk to find out what was going on with these three additional charges Fraudulent charges that no one could seem to explain the reasoning behind. Nor could they show us itemized receipts with any kind of explanation. It took us months and months and months of stress and drama dealing with the bank and the hotel to get the charges reversed. I sincerely hope that Miss Reichert was fired as she has a fraudulent Employee.

Yelp
This hotel has been through a LOT of changes. First, it was a Best Western. Then it was an Unscripted. Then it was the Monterey Tides by Joie de Virve, which is a Hyatt brand. As of last year, and another coat of paint, it is now a Marriott property called simply "Monterey Beach Hotel". The lobby got a MASSIVE makeover. Starting with a wine bar right after you check in. $20 a glass, however. The former "Waterfront Kitchen" restaurant has been made over as well. That's another review. The sitting area is nice and comfy and is a good place to chat. The rooms didn't really change much. Some new additions like quirkier art and larger TVs. But they're small. And, of course, none of the rooms really exit to the beach. But the beach is VERY accessible with a short, easy walk. The windows don't open, but you can still hear waves crashing with them closed. The Big Sur After Rain toiletries are nice. Make sure you grab as many as you can when you leave because they are EXPENSIVE. All and all, it was a nice stay, albeit expensive. But if you are a Bonvoy member, it'll be worth saving points for to take your wife for a peaceful getaway!

Yelp
Ahhhh so mixed with my feelings about this place.. it started with me calling the night before I arrived at the hotel. I had a few questions to ask about the microwave. The Jacuzzi and the bonfire is on the beach. Needless to say I kept being put on hold for a long amount of time I kept hanging up on my way out here which was a 2 Hour Dr. I called over 13 times kept getting put on hold sometimes they would answer the phone and ask if it was OK to put me on hold and other times they would just answer the phone and directly put me on hold without saying anything and then I was told that I'd get a call back when I finally get a hold of somebody they never called me back. Needless to say I showef up to the hotel. They were nothing but pleasant sweet and nice It was a great room. It was very easy check-in and the hotel staff treated us amazing . Small issues here and there not having towels and being able to get our blankets to the fireplace on time as well as being able to have the fireplace lit when they were supposed to be. However, the manager at the front desk, saw what happened with my trip and was more than eager to help me and give me $100 credit towards our food which I was extremely grateful of I go to the bar. It had a bunch of wonderful drinks from Marley, but Erica, I would not suggest getting drinks from. She doesn't seem like she has a great attitude. I ordered a chilled shot thank you thank you with a pineapple back. She made me a martini and then she looked at me stupid when I told her that's not what I wanted, and she still gave it to me and then Marley came back and asked me if I wanted my drink to be fixed the way I asked and she fixed it I give Marley 10 out of 10 I give Erica zero out of 10 she should work at McDonald's. Her attitude is trash. as a bar manager myself I would've fired her her boss had to step in and take my order because she couldn't control the bar, which is literally 10 seats & the manager had to come take my order and help her with her job. SMH. And then I ordered macaroni and cheese with no Panko but clearly they didn't tell me it already comes with a baked on top so it's already in my food and I can't eat it, but didn't bother to tell me that they served it to me anyways.

Yelp
We spent three days/nights at this hotel in May 2025. My 70yrs old selebration was comletely spoiled. The service was terrible, our room was not cleaned for two days in a row. The trash wasn't removed for 48 hours, the bed was not done, the "clean" towers in the room were all dirty (all had long, large dark gray spots) while we stayed there. I called front desk on several occasions and requested the room to be cleaned - never hapened. The explanation was it was due to the hotel was fully booked and there was not enough staff. Also, the paper holder in the bathroom was loose and ready to fall. I asked hotel to have it fixed, due to the hotel held our sercurity deposit and didn't want to be blamed for the damage - didn't hapened either. Alex, the front desk manager promised to give a partial refund of $238.00 to cover the issue with uncleaned room but we never received it. And, they held the $250.00 security deposit which was not returne either. I'll never go back to this hotel ! Horrible service and broken promises.

Yelp
Booked through Airbnb, the trip was prepaid $600 for 2 nights, place must be nice right? The obligatory deposit was made but for $250!? Don't think IHG, portola, Monterey plaza, or the sanctuary charged this much for deposit in winter or the summer. An additional parking fee of $45 bucks was added per night, without confirmation that we even came in a car to park with. I even asked if it was free and I was given an annoyed yes. Additionally, "parking tax" makes this a whopping $51 per night. The cherry on top is the additional nondisclosed fee of $301 because they can't sort out there Airbnb accounts. So a total of about $1k for 2 nights was taken from my card without warning. As for the refurbishment....our keycards didn't work half the time, the fridge flooded the room, with waves of half baked couples slapping the monkey in the hot tub outside. I will be received SOME of the money back...but I'd rather have my teeth between a curb and Tony soprano than deal with customer service again.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel, on the water. Amazing sunset. Food is good. Service is great! We didn't use the spa, e-bikes or the saunas but they are there, available for you.
