Where to Eat in Monterey

"I found the front-row ocean view—just a few feet from the lobby through floor-to-ceiling windows—to be a drop-dead stunner, and many guest rooms offer ocean views where the roar of crashing waves is immediacy; while the location isn't a short walk to historic downtown or Cannery Row, the hotel's sofas and fire pits on 600 feet of sandy beach (it's the county's only beachfront hotel) are tempting, its restaurant The Lantern Room is a highlight, and the refreshed lobby lounge even offers Taste Monterey wines in two-, four-, or eight-ounce pours from a self-serve station that keeps the space abuzz with guests (and happy dogs)." - Sharon McDonnell

The Lantern Room Wants to Be Monterey’s Seaside Escape Off Highway 1 | Eater SF

"Anchored by sweeping ocean views, the updated Monterey Beach Hotel showcases forward-facing bay vistas that set it apart from other Monterey hotels that face Santa Cruz. The property’s new restaurant, the Lantern Room, competes for attention with those views and—together with the hotel’s location and focus on quality, locally sourced ingredients—aims to create a destination for both tourists and locals." - Dianne de Guzman

We enjoyed our stay, rooms were clean and comfortable. We had ocean view, so there's always sound from the waves which I enjoyed but for some it might be too much. The access to beach is great. Pool and wellness center with cold plunge and sauna were good. The resturant didn't have much options for vegetarian and menu was a bit overpriced. I would recommend having breakfast at the Butter house or nearby by breakfast places.

I had an overnight stay at the Monterey Beach Hotel, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel as a Christmas gift from a friend. We had such a wonderful experience! Sheevani (Front Desk) warmly greeted us and smiled as my friend told her this was a Christmas gift to me. She was able to get us early check in for the 1st room and when we were able to check into the 2nd room, we were greeted by a beautiful charcuterie platter and a bottle of local wine in the room. What a wonderful surprise! The room also comes with a wine card where you can pour your own glass in the lobby with a swipe of the card. Nice touch and my friend enjoyed her wine when we had dinner at the Lantern Room. We had 2 ocean front rooms, and the layout of the rooms are fantastic! Wonderful L shaped sofa facing the ocean with a table. Cozy heater right under the window and the window shades are great as you can choose a white filter pull down or a blackout pull down. The coffee bar in the room features Lavazza coffees and I always love a mini fridge. There was a clothes steamer and hair dryer in the room along with a pair of binoculars. They really thought of everything when designing this room. After dinner we went back to the Front Desk and Rebecca gave us a complimentary s'mores kit. The firepits outside are just wonderful and there is plenty of seating across the property. What a fun way to enjoy the evening by the ocean listening to the waves, looking up at the sky and eating a delicious treat! The next morning, I went to the Front Desk to ask for a late check out. Sheevani was there again, and I was happy so I could ask her if she had the charcuterie board and wine sent. She said she did as she wanted to enhance my gifted stay. She was able to give us a late check out and we enjoyed our day at the beach to the hilt! I will be back many times for overnight recharge for myself or bringing a friend or family. I have already told friends about this property, and I will keep recommending it! Thank you for having such fantastic ambassadors like Sheevani and Rebecca to make me feel like such a valued and welcomed guest. They made our experience absolutely wonderful!!

Let me preface this with the fact that I have been traveling for 27 years, and stay in mainly Marriott properties. I have been a Titanium level Bonvoy member going on 11 years. Do NOT waste your money on this hotel. They advertise being a "boutique" hotel, but in reality the rooms are an old Motel 6. They updated the bathrooms, and arrange the furniture so that it looks nice, but you know what they say about putting lipstick on a pig. The views are beautiful, but you can get those driving to the many beaches in the area. The slap in the face, was the $200 charge (unbeknownst to me, and glad I check my Amex regularly) for a so-called "pet fee". When I called to ask what this extra charge was, I was told that housekeeping inspects all the rooms and if they find evidence of pet hair, they will charge you this fee without letting you know. As if the taxes and fees for a California hotel weren't enough!!!!! AND.........they ask when you check in if you have a pet. Of course our answer was "no", but I guess they consider their guests untrustworthy so it's OK to add on an additional fee after you've checked out. The only reason I am giving the hotel a 2, is because the staff was friendly and the fitness center was above par. There are plenty of other places to stay in the area, so be forewarned of this one.

Google
The service is some of the best I received in the Marriott brands with over 1,000 nights. Danis, Rebecca and Kayla were attentive during a complex time where lots of people were asking for their attention. They make sure the check in process was easy, they made sure - as a Marriott Platinum member - that I received what I’ve already been promised by Marriott. They even included some above and beyond gestures to ensure our stay was extra ordinary. About the hotel - this is an exterior door hotel, which I was a little apprehensive about, but after seeing the location and experiencing the service I would highly recommend to any all visiting the Monterey area. This has a resort feel as the location is right on the beach. The only thing between you and the beach are fire pits to lounge and enjoy anytime of the day. When you’re wrapping up your day, take your family down to those fire pits and enjoy s’mores along with the sound of the crashing waves. Location is great, service is outstanding, atmosphere is incredible.

Google
Perfect location right on the water, steps to the beach and a short walk to Cannery Row and the Aquarium. Ocean-view rooms are stunning. The restaurant is excellent, and the complimentary evening drinks + s’mores kits are a delightful bonus. Rooms are comfortable and clean but have a cozy, slightly retro motel vibe. Overall, a very enjoyable stay — the location, food, and little perks easily outweigh the dated room style. Great coastal getaway.

Google
Terrible experience. We stayed here just one night and so are so happy that no more than one night. The only good thing here (and it’s really amazing) - the view, the ocean and the beach just beside the rooms. But the rest is worse than we could imagine. If you want to park your car on the hotel parking lot, it’s $50 per night! And they’re not responsible for any damage or theft. So basically they charge for nothing! There is no water, no microwave, no kettle in the rooms. Towels were not clean and with holes in it. The bathroom tub is broken. And they charge deposit almost in the same amount as the cost of the room. The stuff is not friendly, we didn’t get any help with our bags and car. I didn’t expect this from Marriott.

UPDATE: Manager reached out right away. Resolved the issues and was already speaking to staff and how to better address issues . Overall Im very pleased on management ensuring a nice stay. Service was absolutely horrible. There are ants in the room and they will swarm your bag within 1 hour. Staff will dismiss your concerns and make you come to the front desk for anything. It took over a week and 2 phone calls to get my itemized bill. And even then they failed to link my account to my stay even though I had a confirmation receipt with my account #. There was also an incident where a man was screaming for help and banging on the doors at 10pm at night. Not fun as a solo female traveler. They also recently implemented a new fee for in room water bottles : $18!!!! This was not advertised in the room and is predatory . Lastly . The new sauna they had been building was extremely disappointing. 2 Costco 3ftx3ft outhouses WHICH ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE STAY. $30 per use- comical. For $900 a 2 night stay you would think you’d receive better service. Stay anywhere else besides here. Oh and parking is $50 a night

Google
I mean are you kidding me? This was such a gorgeous hotel. Went in early November and I don’t think it was peak travel season. Have platinum status and easily got a great ocean view room. You could hear the waves all night so if you need silence, don’t get this room, but if you love it, it’s a natural sound machine! The views were impeccable. The breakfast was seriously so good and such a highlight to eat and watch the ocean. The welcome also included complementary glasses of wine. The lobby makes you want to sit there and enjoy it. Connected to a bike path and walking trail. Minutes from Monterey Aquarium. Can’t say enough good things about the stay.

Yelp
Location is great since this is right off the freeway and right on the beach. The lobby has the perfect view of the ocean. The lobby has a bar and includes a limited menu from The Lantern Room. We booked a room with a "garden view," and by garden view, they mean the parking lot and the freeway. There is no garden to look at. There are some rooms that have a view of a common area with sauna pods that they call "wellness rooms." The garden view is a bit misleading. Just call it a room with no view. This place allows dogs, but the designated dog area is at the corner of the side of the parking lot next to the detached gym. So they pretty much placed a sign by the semi-grass area of the parking lot and just called it the pet relief area... it appears the property did not invest much with the designated pet area, but I was just happy this place allowed dogs. Speaking of pets, I'm not sure if it was a one time fee or a fee per night, but we stayed for 3 nights and the pet fee was $170 + $20 pet fee tax on top of that. I called ahead of time to notify them that I was bringing a pet, and I also brought my small shih-tzu in upon check in. The front desk did not include the pet fee upon check out and rang it as a separate transaction a few days after, even though I told them ahead of time that I was bringing a dog. Restaurant prices are overpriced. The food was just ok and the best part about this place is just the direct view of the ocean. Your stay comes with smores by the fire pit facing the ocean.

Yelp
Beautiful location, disappointing service and amenities The property itself is stunning, but the staff's customer service was some of the worst I've experienced and many of the amenities advertised simply didn't work. The wine card system didn't function, and when we asked for help, a staff member watching us pour said, "You must have already used it you can go to the bar." We were told bikes were available for two hours per guest. The first evening there were six bikes, only two of which worked, so we were lucky to get a short ride in. The next morning, the same issue six bikes out, but only one available. When we informed the front desk (with four staff members standing by and no guests waiting), we were told, "It's a third-party company I can give you the number and you can call them if you want." At dinner in the Lantern Room, we were one of the first tables sat, but three tables that arrived after us were greeted and served first. When we mentioned it to our server, Carlos, he said, "Sorry, I'm really busy with other tables," They also advertise s'mores, but two of the fire pits were broken. To top it off, there was no fridge in the room something you'd expect at a resort of this level. Overall, this property has incredible potential but fails completely in execution. The location and design are beautiful, but the lack of hospitality, accountability, and attention to detail made the stay frustrating rather than relaxing. For the price and the promise, we expected much more.

Yelp
You AUTOMATICALLY have to pay $50 dollars a night for parking so they are INSTANTLY getting 1 star less for a Ridiculous Charge.... Other than that, everything was great. Excellent views, beautiful bar and restaurant. The staff were excellent, Kim, Jose and the other bartender (blond hair were absolutely fantastic!!! Regular greetings and table touches, were friendly welcoming and probably just because of them I stayed at the bar for another hour or so enjoying lite conversation. $16 for Jamison, $7.50 for the cider and the macaroni and cheese was $13. Rooms were quaint and small but nice and clean with a large window, Nice TV and entry bathroom. Showers were small but nice water flow. I would absolutely return just to see the bar staff again.

Yelp
Quick take: Beautiful location Stayed one night in October 2025. Based off of our stay definitely no less than a 4 star stay. Pros: The staff throughout the hotel were very friendly and attentive. We stayed on the 3rd floor with an ocean view. Beach access is right there. Can't get any closer. We enjoyed the sauna very much. Dined at The Lantern Room for dinner and breakfast. Food and service were very good. As others mentioned, free s'mores kits by request at the front desk. Sand washing station. Fire pit and lounge. Really loved the walk on the beach. Best of all, spending quality time with someone special. Cons: Windows do not open. Completely sealed. Sauna hours closed too early. Other amenities: Gym Pool Cold plunge Ebikes

Yelp
*this review is based on my experience at the bar alone - I did not stay overnight at this hotel* I can't speak on the hotel itself yet, but the bar is easily the most notable part of the whole property - I wish they had their own yelp page! Hanna, Julio, and DJ were especially attentive -- quick, consistent, and genuinely on top of things without any extra theatrics... and funny! Their service made the whole experience feel effortless. The drinks were deliciously crafted, made with great ingredients, and looked just as good as they tasted. The views are amazing, and the cute s'mores stations are a fun touch that adds to the atmosphere. And the food is honestly to die for. After my bar experience -- plus those views -- I'd definitely consider booking a room next time.

Yelp
I'm baffled by why this hotel only has 2 1/2 stars. It is one of the nicer hotels in the area that is reasonably priced and offers a lot of amenities. Courteous staff, comfy stay, room and hotel is nice and clean. There are decks with seating and fire pits on the 1st floor overlooking the ocean. Not sure if it was just a Labor Day thing or summer thing, but they do offer a complementary s'mores to roast over the fire during the evening. First two hours of E bikes are complementary. They have a decent size pool and hot tub. It is conveniently located with many options all around.

Yelp
We had a one night stay here during a holiday week before heading out to downtown Monterey/Cannery Row the next day. The hotel has four floors consisting of five connected buildings. The check-in desk is located in the center building, which has a nice seating area with floor to ceiling windows looking out to the ocean. The bar is located on this floor as well. Our room was on the first level facing the parking lot. The room is modern and stylish with a Lavazza k-cup coffee maker and flat screen tv. The sink is outside the small toilet and shower/tub room. Otherwise, the room was comfortable. On the oceanside of the buildings, there are seating areas in front of the fire pits where you can sit and relax with a drink. After 7pm, you can make s'mores with the complementary s'mores kits that you can get at the check-in counter. We also got two complementary glasses of wine from the self-service machine next to the bar. There is a restaurant on the fourth floor. Nice oceanfront hotel. There is self-parking for a fee. Service at the check-in counter was friendly. Room was pricey for a Wednesday and the fact our room did have an ocean-view.

Yelp
stayed one night in the fall of 2025. can't imagine how we could have had a better experience. the staff were super friendly and helpful. the building and rooms were tastefully mid century modern. the pool was nice. our room faced the ocean. a little on the expensive side, 450$, but that may be the going rate for oceanfront rooms in central california. they gave us free s'mores kits to use at the many gas fire pits on the patio deck. the water is right there and the beach is beautiful. they have e-bikes available. overall stellar experience, would definitely revisit. the one suggestion i would have is please have a way to open windows or sliding glass doors to let the ocean sounds in. we propped open our door all night with a sneaker lol.

Bernadette K.

Yelp
We stayed here for our one-year wedding anniversary, and it was absolutely perfect! The location alone is spectacular--our room had an amazing ocean view that made every morning special. Evenings by the fire pit were one of our favorite parts, making s'mores and relaxing in such a cozy atmosphere. Every staff member we met was warm and attentive--from the front desk to housekeeping and the restaurant team. A big shout-out to Alex, the manager, who went above and beyond by helping us with e-bikes and treating us to wine and chocolates in our room. It was such a thoughtful touch! We're already planning our next visit and can't recommend this place enough for anyone looking for a relaxing, romantic getaway.

Marty U.

Yelp
We arrived in the late afternoon to watch the sunset from the lounge next to the bar. It was a really beautiful setting, with huge picture windows overlooking the ocean . Sitting near the fire in very comfortable couches and chairs with our cocktails was the highlight of our weekend. We ordered food which turned out to be exceptional. A special thanks to the staff and especially our bartender, Hanna who helped us to feel welcomed, comfortable, and well fed! We will definitely come back.

Yelp
We were here in May of 2022 and are so happy to make it back since their renovations. They are very dog friendly. Staff is swiftly receptive to any feedback or incidental needs. The bartender was friendly and engaging with us /our bull terrier - BYW they offer mocktails for non-drinkers - I tried to slowly savor but is was SO delicious and I was thirsty. The front desk staff was over the top (in a good way) courteous, informative and professional. I appreciated the follow up inquiry our second day. We had breakfast once from their restaurant and found it flavorful and well balanced with textures and herbs. Bonus: getting to watch seal in the breaking waves right at the hotel beach! Expect and respect wild life when visiting.

Catherine F.

Yelp
We went into the bar and had the most wonderful time. Excellent view of the ocean and sat next to the fireplace. The food was delicious and our bartender, Hanna, was so professional and made us the most incredible cocktails.
google avatar

Robert B.

Yelp
Stayed here for 9 day during car week which was work related. Rooms were cleaned daily as long as I didn't leave a do not disturb sign which was great . Air conditioner worked great and rooms looked newly remolded. Staff were super attentive at the desk .

Yelp
Booked a ocean view room after driving 7 hours from La through detours we show up at the hotel at 7:30 PM to know that our Ocean view is now changed into a parking lot Home Depot view. F you guys. You guys should be going out of business. You don't deserve any business. I'll make sure you don't deserve anyone else's business. I will go and rant and tell the truth about your company to every social media platform imaginable. Thanks to you, we're going to the Monterey Plaza. This hotel is committing FRAUD! Complete bait and switch! Should be sued in all honesty with a class action lawsuit.

Yelp
This hotel has breathtaking views. Check-in was a breeze. Alex was super nice and helpful. He provided me with the list of vamenities and perks they offered. Campfire kit to make smores. They also give $25 credit/person towards self-service wine or mocktail. This was just to name a few. Our room had the perfect view of the beach and you can hear the waves in your room. The weekend we went it was pretty chill, people weren't super loud. It seemed like a lot of families come here as well. The room had a welcoming and homey vibe. The bathroom/shower was a little small in my opinion. You had enough space to open and close the door. Where you place you soap and toiletries was blown out. You attempt to place anything on the tray and it just falls down. They provide shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. The shampoo was no longer mounted on the wall and was on the floor. Everytime you flushed the toilet it made a loud noise that made you think the water was going to keep running in the toilet but finally shuts off. The bed was worn out, you sit on it and you feel and hear the bed popping. Pillows were super flat. Like you could stack 2 or 3 and there was no difference. I wasn't aware they allow pets here. So even when they clean the room the hairs are still there. I'm allergic to cats and dogs, so my allergies were super bad. The area itself was nice and clean, the parking lot seemed safe. I definitely took advantage of the self service wine and mocktails at the bar/ lounge. We also made s'mores which was a nice treat that I haven't done in a long time. I walked the area and was surprised to see like an outdoor sauna. It was super cute but it looks like it was still new and not set up yet. The pool was clean. I tried looking for the ice bath/tub and couldn't find it. I didn't know until the last day that the gym/ fitness area was in a separate building that looked like a restaurant from the outside. From the outside, the lantern room didn't look to inviting. This is a restaurant they have on the 4th floor. They don't open until 5pm. I tried looking for a menu but they didn't have anything displayed. Online it only showed a breakfast menu. So clearly there's a disconnect somewhere. Overall the experience wasn't bad, it was a little too pricey in my opinion. Various reviews said it was updated since Marriott took over but it looks like they're not fully done yet. They definitely, need to maintain a lot of the rooms. The one we stayed in was 260. The views and the convenience of the beach was nice but I don't see us coming here often. You may get lucky and get a package deal with Marriott where the room price includes parking or discount on drinks, but $450 a night is still pretty steep.

Mimi V.

Yelp
Amazing views when you arrive in the lobby, quick registration & provided information of the area. A quick drive to the next exit brings you to downtown Monterey to enjoy everything. Great views, good food, drinks plus immediate relaxation watching the waves then, sunset. The bed is comfortable & good amenities. Definitely staying again!

Yelp
Great beach location with relaxing sounds of waves all day and night. Quick hop and a skip and you're there. Nice outdoor area for a fire and relaxing. The hotel is nicely renovated with a modern rustic beach theme and features a nice restaurant, plenty of lounge seating, a nice gym and sauna/ice bath. Most of the staff is friendly (housekeeping, restaurant servers, room service support)... female bar tender was not so helpful until she realized she was made a mistake and the front desk gal in the a.m. sounded burden and irritated each time we called or were st the front desk . Rooms were really comfy and bright. They offer a handheld steam device instead of an iron and have a mini Lava coffee station. A streaming TV is avail and selectivity electronic plug featured with the bed headboard (win!).

Elizabeth C.

Yelp
The hotel itself is in a great location. Right on the beach and close to a lot of places we wanted to go. The front desk staff were helpful. Delivered an extra blanket and do not disturb sign to the room. Self serve wine bar was nice. Walls are super thin. Can hear people talking. House keeping was super loud laughing and chatting. We could hear the cleaning of the toilet from inside our room. Was so loud I got scared. We were right next to the pool and could hear all the people jumping in and kids screaming. The room is smaller than expected. No dresser, no table, no closet. The mini fridge is really small. Could only hold a few drinks. There is no microwave. The tv is to the left of the bed. Even if you're sitting on the left side it's still not in front of you. Very little light unless you open the blinds. We sent the temperature of the room to 65 when going to sleep. It never got below 69-70. The bathroom had no counter to put your clothes on just a toilet and a tub. Sink was outside the bathroom. The shower curtain is short. Got water everywhere. The pool looks like a coffin.

Yelp
Rooms are cozy and clean... great view and sounds of the bay. Smores available for roasting free E-bikes available for 2 hours free Wine tastings available for free The one downside is the air/heat unit gets loud at night, it woke me up.

Yelp
We've been guests here on multiple occasions as one of our standing traditions in celebrating our anniversary. At least 5 stays if not more. Not this year! $580!!!!!!! For ONE night. We love the bonfire on the beach but the rooms are basic and a bit rundown as are the grounds. It's nowhere near worth $580 for one night where we can light a fire for a couple hours. We've never paid that and we've always had ocean view rooms. Sadly this will be a pass until the rates go back to a justifiable rate.
google avatar

Timothy T.

Yelp
Service is fair, nothing top notch but good enough. Rooms are great and would definitely stay again although the pilows are super flat, i folder them like a ham to get more height. Besides that, the garden room was a total vibe and a great experience for my family. They had nice touches, $25 drink credit, bikes to ride, smores, and something else. These subtle things made the stay extra unique. The snacks and drinks available to purchase are cool, nice small selection of local beers. Typical hotel pricing. The lobby and lounge is a great spot to hang, just lounged there for hours and relaxed, overlooking the ocean!
google avatar

Monita S.

Yelp
Only beach property in Monterey. Great Pacific Ocean views. Beach with sitting area and fire pits. Rooms with ocean view are more pricey than garden view rooms. Lobby overlooks the beach. Bar and restaurant on property. They charge $51 for car parking. It's self parking, not valet. Check in process could improve.

Sara M.

Yelp
The hotel does the look anything like the photos!!! The lobby looks good and similar to the photos. But the rooms.... Do not look anything at all like the photos. The rooms are tiny, musty, and damp. The rooms smelled like a wet laundry hamper... I stay at Marriott hotels quite a bit and this was not at all what I expected. Truly dissatisfied

Tala P.

Yelp
We absolutely enjoyed our 1 night thanksgiving getaway. My uncle used to work here back in the 70s . The Marriott did a great job renovating this very cute and contemporary/beach design. The beach view is the best and there is hardly anyone on the beach. Maybe it's different in the summer time.
google avatar

Frank T.

Yelp
Great Marriott hotel. They just renovated an old resort hotel and did a great job. Marriott does this better than all other big brand hotels in MHO. The elites get great deals with rooms with ocean views. Fire pits everywhere, wonderful finish saunas, pools, etc. and for the price and location i am sold. Great job Marriott.

Yelp
Pros: wonderful view I think it's overpriced. They need lower rates if they are going to continue to provide what they have. The room was ok. The shower is small. We didn't have any hot water at all. I called and asked about that and they said that they were under construction at the moment and that the hot water would return to normal an hour later. It did not return to normal. The pillows are stiff and our bed dipped in the middle. The lounge bar was ok. I do see the bartenders being a little overwhelmed considering how long it took to get the drinks, the quality of the drinks, and the fact that they didn't look like they wanted to be there. We got an aperol spritz & a specialty cocktail. 43$. The windows in the lobby were dirty from the outside which obstructed the view. There is like a lounge area in front of the front facing rooms at the bottom and it is so dirty!! There was trash everywhere and bird poop on the couches. It looked like some of them had cigarette burns on them, Would I stay here again? Probably not. I could not imagine paying 300$ more for an ocean view and have the same experience with the hot water or the bed. The restaurant was ok. The support staff was nice. Our server was seemed uninterested in serving us considering he had a 12 top. He should have checked in more. Felt like a cash grab!

Yelp
Monterey Beach Hotel, located in Monterey, California, offers direct access to beautiful beaches and scenic ocean views. Known for its coastal charm, the hotel provides comfortable accommodations, including rooms with ocean views, and amenities like a restaurant, bar, and event spaces. It's ideal for visitors looking to enjoy the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Cannery Row, and nearby nature reserves. Many guests appreciate the relaxing beachfront location and proximity to local attractions. The hotel is popular for beach weddings, romantic getaways, and family vacations. Since they just reopened with newly renovated under new management, with Marriott Bonvoy group, it's quite nice. Our front desk Alex was great, polite, and made us feel very welcome. Solid amenities here, Italian soap and bath stuffs, non fire from 7-8 PM, dog friendly, and chill vibes. It's not a luxury hotel, but it's as good as it gets. Note: if you the ocean, it's perfect. If you don't, the noise of the wave will be an issue if you are a light sleeper.

Yelp
The bartender Marley was sooooo amazing!! She was very attentive, and her personality mixed with service was the best experience I had in a long time. I flew in from Florida on Friday and had a bad flight experience but she made my entire stay at the Monterey beach hotel!!! please request her, you won't be disappointed!!!!

Yelp
We were looking for a place to stay that was family friendly during the day and somewhere we can relax in the evening and this place was it! First off, I called to confirm our Ocean View room and possible rollaway bed for our child and spoke with Dustin. He was extremely helpful and made sure everything including early check in (due to the availability) was ready for us upon arrival. From that point on, our stay included meeting so many people who worked there that not only were helpful and friendly, but truly enjoyed working there- must be the beautiful ocean views! The room was updated, its on the more cozier/smaller size, but our huge window overlooked the ocean and you can literally hear the waves throughout the property. They have been updating spots, such as the sauna and cold plunge area which is set to come soon. Upon arrival, we were reminded of the $50 parking rate and the $25 resort fee. The surprise was we also received $75 credit for wine and non alcoholic beverages at the bar for their very own complementary happy hour from 3-10pm. I especially enjoyed their lovely smores kits they would give out after 7pm to use at the many fire pits overlooking the water, a very nice touch for everyone! I would say the only suggestion I would make, which I brought up while I was there, was that there needs to be more coffee available, not just the pods in the rooms. There is a restaurant on the 4th floor, but sometimes they can get busy, but a quick drink would have been clutch. I was told that during the weekends they do provide coffee in the lobby, hopefully they can extend that to the weekdays at well. We are definitely looking forward to sharing our experience with our family and friends, and hopefully coming back to stay soon. The hotel is literally a 6 minute drive from downtown, but in my opinion is much more relaxing and beautiful. I would like to especially send my gratitude as well to Owen, Alex, and Vivian at the front desk who were always so kind and ready to assist with anything! It was always a pleasure seeing them! Dennis at the restaurant in the evening was so kind and allowed us to have a very delicious meal, much appreciated!

Yelp
Had such a wonderful time and we were so happy we were able to bring our two fur babies. It was so relaxing and quiet for the most part. I love that we had the option to sit inside or outside in front of the ocean. Such a relaxing couple of days hoping to come back soon!

Yelp
We had just been in our room for less then hour when we found dirty undergarments on the couch. We called front desk to report issue and staff was laughing. Extremely unprofessional, we were applaud at the response. We asked to speak to the manager to complain, the staff transferred us to bartender. Husband called back and said this is not acceptable and he needed to talk to manager. All managers went home so we will wait for a call tomorrow. I would highly not recommend this place, merely because if the cleaning staff can't see dirty garments on the couch , how clean are they cleaning your room. If the front main reception staff is laughing and no manager is on premises. Who's running this place. Is this a dressed up Motel 6 ? Very very upsetting situation.

Yelp
Exquisite! Beautiful, private and excellent accommodation. Minutes from the Monterey bay aquarium/downtown. The beach is steps away from the property. The pool is heated and there is also a jacuzzi. The price is also relatively ok if you find a good deal. They offer 2hr e-bike for free and also offer free s'mores for kids and free glass of wine for adults!! Highly recommended !!

Yelp
Worst stay at this hotel! Paid good money to stay here on our anniversary. They put us in a room under the walkway. All night all we heard was foot traffic with people coming in and out of the lobby. In the morning they replaced the glass door at the entry of the hotel. Why would you place us in a room if there was a door being replaced right above us!? We woke up to loud banging and drilling. Hotel staff is rude and unhelpful. Would not recommend staying here at all! There's a ton of other options to stay, don't waste your time here.

Yelp
This once picturesque establishment with quality staff, prices, and amenities has fallen from grace. I've stayed at this hotel many times over the course of two decades, and I'm saddened to say my last stay will likely be my last. My husband and I stayed here back in April, and the decrease in quality wasn't apparent at first. Staff were initially friendly and helpful. However, during our evening here the A/C was making so much raucous it was impossible to sleep with it on. In addition, any time anyone else above us (we were in the ground level) would turn on their A/C, many if not all of the other units were just as loud. To top it off and after months of waiting, we haven't gotten a deposit back and when trying to get clarification on why we didn't get it back or in an attempt to finally get it, I was shuffled around to different departments on the phone only to be hung up on multiple times. I'm still giving a 2-star rating because the location is one of the best beach hotels on the west coast that I've been to, rooms are clean, and the property grounds are well maintained. I wish I could give it a higher review as this used to be my favorite hotel before their last change of ownership. It truly is a shame when a Motel 6 a few miles up the road delivers a better overall base experience than what is supposed to be a "luxury" hotel.

Yelp
The hotel has been renovated and really has great views from the lobby and bar lounge area. We have stayed here twice. The rooms are fine but no desk or area to sit down and do makeup and the toilet shower area is very small. Sink and counter is in main room. We had a drink at the bar early evening and that was my biggest disappointment. We sit down and the female bar tender was making some batch mix and said to us "can I help you with something "? Like yeah, maybe a drink. It was the weirdest way she said. Not friendly at all to customers but chatted away with a fellow worker. Just plain rude. Overall I like the place, bar was biggest complaint. Did not order food.

Yelp
Dustin was so welcoming, informative, and sweet. We arrived a little agitated from a long drive with my family of 4, but Dustin's demeanor and reception turned things right side up immediately! The views are incredible. The restaurant is top shelf, such delicious food (even the kids menu!). The room was nice. We had an issue that was resolved promptly which was nice. Parking was easy. Beach access is as easy as it gets. Lots of beautiful wildlife and scenery. At night, the waves crashing on the shore serve as white noise. Worth the $. Would stay here again.

Yelp
We had a great stay! Right on the beach and definitely great for a family vacation. Make sure you go see Erika at the bar on the second floor. She made our trip to the hotel memorable. Very personable and open to having genuine conversation, by far one of the best bartenders we've had. Thank you Erika! We definitely will be coming back for the lychee martini.

Yelp
Great hotel in the area! Perfect location and a beautiful view. I'd definitely consider staying here again. It sounds like Marriott is still ironing out a few maintenance things since taking over last year. Someone kept pulling the fire alarm during our stay, including once at 10PM while we were asleep. Might be worth adding plastic covers on those so an accidental bump doesn't set it off for the whole resort in the future. We also called about our remote not having batteries, and the front desk kindly said they'd send someone right away. After an hour of waiting, we figured they weren't coming and just went to sleep. Otherwise, we had a great stay and they do give you a $25 wine credit loaded on your card daily, which was a cool perk.

Yelp
Room 138 don't stay in it... they move chairs up above for hours on end slamming things around and the manager will not do anything about it

Yelp
Horrible experience started from the moment of check-in. They would not check us in or provide a room key until after 4:30pm despite the listed check-in stated as 4pm (and check out at 11am... you need 5 hours to clean the room?). The room that they placed us in on 3rd floor was directly below the kitchen / restaurant on the 4th floor. So we heard banging from kitchen until 11pm at night, which restarted at 6:30am for breakfast service. On top of it all, they charge you a huge 'resort fee' for terrible internet, and a parking fee as well. All in all, this was the least relaxing hotel stay that I can recall in years. Will not come back and recommend you spend your money elsewhere.

Yelp
We loved our stay! Upon arrival, we were a little annoyed to have to pay $45 to park for the night but they provided us with $25 for free wine in the lobby and a free smore making kit. The views were incredible and the rooms were very clean and updated. The location is hard to beat- right on the sand. Def coming back!!

Yelp
Bar staff - particularly the waitress with short hair was so rude and off putting for a beach front lounge. First when we were hanging out in the lounge she told us and several other customers to not move furniture at all. All we had done was turn a chair to see the view. Then she would tell others to keep their feet off of things, like it was her own home. Then, she brings her kid to work- which I am all for - and the kid is making noise and roaming around without shoes. As if this is his home. The kid isn't the issue, it's the total disconnect in what she's telling others who are making themselves comfortable and how she's using this space. Finally, she was on her phone and chatting away with the bar staff and hardly ever tended to us or other customers. I had to get up to ask for a menu. And had to get up to order. While they are supposed to tend to tables. Even when the place was at 10% capacity. Yikes!

Yelp
View - 5 Ambiance - 4 Food - 3 Service - 2 Dogs barking constantly - 0 Lip service - 0 The view at this hotel is fabulous as is the ambiance and the view from the lobby. That's where the magic ends. The food is mediocre and overpriced, but you'd expect that at a Marriott. However, it continues to spiral down from there. The service is below par as we wait for our rooms (two families) with no offer for a drink or appetizer while it's approaching dinner time and still no room despite my reservation a month ago. Lip service is a fine art this Marriott has perfected. For several days I have been asking for my room to be cleaned. I'm told it will be done shortly. 48 hours later it still has yet to be done. Lastly, the dogs. There are the most rude dog owners allowing their beasts to bark continuously and uncontrollably. People are clearly annoyed and no staff member has asked them to either quiet their dog or go outside. A very generous 1 star.

Yelp
Lack of maintenance on their beautiful patio area. Covered in bird poop makes it hard to enjoy. Still I recommend this place to guest for the interiors , restaurant and views.

Yelp
The hotel is going through some renovations so during the day it's loud with construction it's closed to the freeway so you hear the freeway noise.make sure you book the ocean side and definitely not a room by the pool area. They have a restaurant which is very expensive. They have a full bar and they give you complimentary wine tickets, the rooms are nice. The front office staff is very friendly. I would stay here again for the ocean view and for some of the amenities.

Yelp
I mean I don't want to write this because I don't want any of you freaks to come here... LOL! It is affordable, on the beach, now a Marriott, staff is excellent, and it is just awesome. First a shoutout for Vivian and really all the front desk staff and housekeeping for a great stay and always a smile. Then Kimmy the server in the front restaurant she was all smiles and just a great energy. Plus, Tori/Jodi darn it I forget her name serving me breakfast on the awesome 4th floor restaurant. She took care of my weird order where I had to bring food to my wife. Thank you! OK I will add easy parking, tesla charger, safe, beach access with fire pits, smores at night, dog friendly and when I say dog friendly everything is dog friendly except the 4th floor restaurant. The gym is missing some equipment but very spacious and nice. You can go for a long walk on the beach or the path that goes along the dunes. There is wonderful outdoor seating to watch the sunset and soon there will be a cold room and a sauna room for more health benefits. We did not use the pool and hot tub but it has that too. OK if I had one complaint at all the beds do not seem to be as new as everything else. One of our two bedded room beds was a bit wonky and the other was pretty soft or felt worn in a bit. We will be back but you don't need to come here. Leave this for us! Have fun!

Yelp
Stayed here in mid October with my family for 2 nights. This place is a gem. It is located beachfront with priceless sunset views. The hotel room was modern, fresh and clean. The beds and pillows were comfortable and the sound of the ocean waves crashing from our room was soothing. The parking was 45/night but was convenient and a short walk from the front desk and rooms. The hotel charges a $25/night destination fee in addition to nightly tax; however, the is a daily $25 credit for wine from the wine wall aka wine vending machine. Also included is a free 2 hour per day bike rental for all registered occupants of the room. Our stay was fabulous and looking forward to visiting again.

Yelp
I agree with another review on here, not sure why this hotel only has 2.5 stars! I had the best experience. I read all reviews on Marriott website and on Yelp and dissect all the pictures before booking and I was so hesitant based on what I was reading. Check-in was quick and the ladies at the front desk had great customer service; we had an ocean view room and it was amazing-although I was nervous on what it would be like with the room being directly outside as opposed to inside a building but it was totally fine. You do hear the ocean waves at night and I'm a light sleeper but I had no issues falling asleep. We couldn't hear people walking outside but maybe it depends on where your room is. The room was very clean and spacious, with a sitting area, closet, plenty of counter space, refrigerator. No issues with parking, s'mores kits every night and complimentary glasses of wine. Def give this hotel a try!

Yelp
Do NOT stay here Worst service Did not clean our room for two days Gave us a broken crib Made us feel uncomfortable and out of place with bar and restaurant staff being brash
